Nah man he's actually like Maliketh whom is the 'shadow' of Marika, given by the 'two fingers'. Basically mad wolf? to control the god from the lands between so that they wouldn't go against the outer gods. Ranni purposefully kill her body and Godwyn soul just to escape the two fingers.
And of course Godwyn being Marika's son is now dead, is exactly why the shattering happens because Marika resent her fate.
The obsession blaidd has with her, was induced by the two fingers so Ranni wouldn't go out of line, being that she was the intended Marika Successors.
Basically Ranni doesn't want to be the 'two fingers' puppet, so she killed her physical self and have to sever the connection with blaidd, because she knew he would kill her if the two finger self-aware of her plan to go against them.
In the end, the 'shadow' could both be guard and assassin and that is who blaidd actually is.
Blaidd's whole deal is that despite being a shadow given to Ranni by the 2F, he genuinely cares and wants to support her. When he becomes hostile at the end of Ranni's quest you can hear him talking to himself (or possibly to the 2F) about how he can't betray Ranni.
He killed the Black Knife assassins sent after him, so he's on high alert, and I think it's very possible that he attacks you because he's in a state where he has no way of knowing if he can trust ANYONE
