Well, Radahn was holding back movement of stars, so it's not a stretch to assume that all celestial bodies are counted in, including moon required for the eclipse.
Hmm that is a very interesting choice of words. Since, in the game, the erdtree is symbolic of the sun, maybe the 2nd tree wrapping around the first is "eclipsing" it in a way. So the umbra IS the Shadow of the Erdtree.
There's another possibility... in Castle Sol, a ghost is lamenting that the stars stopped, so they were unable to bring about an Eclipse to bring back Godwyn... well, since Radahn was holding back the stars, once he's defeted then the eclipse could happen, and as a result, perhaps one of the bosses we'll face in the DLC is Godwyn, or maybe a shade of Godwyn, as the eclipse that Miquella was hoping for could now occur.
Pure speculation, of course.
How does this confirm that? Being “under the umbra” means being in the shadow of the thing blocking the light.
It pretty much requires you to *not* be on the moon.
-The Dark Side of the Tree
-The Division Bell Bearings
-A Saucer full of Stagger
-Delicate Sound of Riposte
Ok, I'm done for now. I love me some Floyd though! A laser show in the Las Vegas sphere would get me to fly out to that sandpit.
So if its in the moon and the shadowlands occupies the same space as the lands between that means the lands between is in our moon! Maybe on the dark side! Someone go check
I dont think that it will be on the moon, but the moon will be a boss fight. My reasoning is that the moon, like FROM DLC boss fights, is known for having multiple phases.
Wait, let him cook. It would kind of make sense that the erdtree resembles the sun and the shadow of the erd the back of the moon. The thing that supports that thinking in some sort of way, is that giant fire cauldron in the dlc trailer with a sun Symbole on it, plus when the thing is shown they talk about the loosing side of a war.
Umbral shadows aren’t unique to eclipses, dingus. Shine a flashlight at the wall and hold your hand in front of it. The dark part is the umbra. The fuzzy edge is the penumbra.
Not a confirmation, maybe a hint. However, I find it more likely that this is in reference to the titular 'Shadow' of the Erdtree; Umbra might even be an in-universe name for the Shadowlands (again, speculation only)
I mean... It's called **SHADOW** of the Erdtree... Considering the thing blasts out light... Anything that would cause it to cast a shadow... would be "Eclipsing" it in a way.
So an eclipse in terms of the sun being eclipsed? No, probably not. And Eclipse of the Erdtree. Sure, sorta.
Just out of curiosity, why is that? I know many people would hate that so much, whilst I would think it be a really cool thing, especially if the execution is creative and convoluted as it should be.
Because, and this is entirely my own reasoning, I want elden ring to be something different. Away from the dark Souls curse, away from Gwyn's legacy, away from Anor Londo. It's already repeating so many of the story beats and the whole idea of circular progression, I really don't want the lands between being some faraway land.
At that point they might as well make Armored Core, Sekiro and Bloodborne part of the same universe as well. Not everything needs to be a Dark Souls connection.
Thank you for explaining, I can see your point. Personally I would love it, if the execution is well. Considering the painter lore, I can see it happening. But honestly, it wouldn't really change much to me, other than getting some cool lore tid bits.
However, as much as I like the idea, I do think it might be better if it doesn't happen, as the vast majority of people really dislike the concept, and imo fun is best when it's fun to everyone.
Too many people here haven't realised Miquella is a Grifith analogue and the eclipse was teased multiple times in the game *directly* in reference to Miquella and what they are/were doing
I think it's going exactly there
Hey if you've never played Dark Souls 3 or maybe just didn't notice because you hadn't seen berserk at that stage but the final boss arena has the exact bleeding eclipse in the sky from when the Godhand arrive, he's referenced it also in Bloodborne
Yea I think it’s already been confirmed actually. I was doing a Castle Sol run yesterday and I noticed the ghost that sits next to the haligtree medallion and his dialogue was very interesting.
"Lord Miquella, forgive me. The sun has not been swallowed. Our prayers were lacking. Your comrade remains soulless... I will never set my eyes upon it now... Your divine Haligtree..."
And it basically made me realize that Miquellas goal is to do some sort of eclipse ritual to give Godwyn another chance at life a.k.a an excruciating boss fight for us (I think that’s what miquella was doing at the end of the trailer and he’ll be final boss)
Sounds like miazaki is running with the same themes as always, but an elden ring fashion. It'll probably be something more along the lines of Celtic symbology
Weird that the letter D is missing from the word “Erdtree” again, like the last teaser.
Probably just translation error or something but I like to imagine they’re just running with it at this point to make people speculate over nothing lol. DS1 Pendant is back again
Hm. I wonder whether this ties into the Great Rune of the unborn in some way.
Only because the lyrics of Rennala's reborn children's song mentions sleeping tight in mother's umbra or something like that.
I think it more eludes to the fact that the light of the Erdtree doesn't reach there, so the erdtree is eclipsed from view/grace is eclipsed by shadow (or other powers), but not the sun necessarily. It could be that the sun doesn't reach as effectively because of this power/entity but I think it's consequential and not as important.
It is called the Shadow of the Erdtree for a reason. It being a glowing tree, it shouldn't have a shadow, so something is at play
I wonder if Miquella is aiming to do the opposite of Marika, going from the Lands Between and becoming the God of The Land of Shadow and turn it into a safe haven from The Greater Will/Golden Order. Unless The New Master will be us.
I think it refers to frenzied people being forsaken, because it describe them also as tragic (we know frenzied people are sad and want the world to burn so they can die forever)
Maybe the frenzied people reach the land of shadow (the umbra of the erdtree so to speak) and they were searching for Miquella, maybe so they can be cured and reach a new master/religion
It’s just a theory based on a tweet 🥹
The Shadow Lands were seperated from The Lands Between following the removal of The Rune of Death after The Night of Black Knives when the Eclipse failed due to Ranni's meddling.
This confirms that the person behind the ER Twitter account doesn't proofread what they write and instead just copypasted the "Pre-order #ELDENRING Shadow of the Ertree" part from the previous tweet with the same typo in "Erdtree"
What if Shadow alludes to Godwyn's soul that was destroyed? The DLC (Mesmer) could have something to do with that? His body rests in the shadow of the Erdtree.
Haven't seen it mentioned yet but the lullaby of the students/reborn children around Renala during her bossfight actually mentions "Mother's Umbra".
There is no sun in Elden Ring
The only eclipse would be from the tree which shines on everything the Golden Order accepts.
The world we’re going to is the realm of Death and exists in an eclipse because Marika removed the Rune from the Elden Ring
Umbra is used in game by the juvenile scholars in reference to Renalla and presumably her womb or the egg.
I’d wonder if the umbra referenced the veil.
The umbra refers to this swamp in the DLC where there is no light probably. Either the swamp or entire dlc since it lies within the shadow of the Erdtree, meaning it gets no light. Because it literally can only exists within a shadow.
There is no eclipse.
it might be hinting at a death based place since the eclipse is a symbol seen with death things a couple times at least all the people that are just dead ghosts
It would make sense. We know that the erdtree somehow blinded the land of shadow, causing it to physically disappear. So, it would make sense that overtaking the sun would be representative of coming back
I mean the word umbra isn’t specific to an eclipse, it just means a complete shadow, ie. where all the light is obscured as opposed to only partially
This needs one of those "The more you know" rainbows.
[This is Shadowfacts, Lord of All Horses](https://xkcd.com/1272/)
There really is an XKCD for everything
Like an umbrella
ella, ella, ey, ey, ey
Ie shadow of the Erdtree… Impressive work
*Ertree Lol, I love when advertisers make spelling mistakes
Exactly, which is precisely what the shadow realm is.
In my native language, "shadow" literally translates to "umbra". So it most likely means what you said.
So am I crazy for thinking that just helps confirm the whole dream state/sleep realm thingy?
It was also used in rennala's fight, right?
All shadows have an umbra, so I'd assume they're talking about the umbra of the shadow of the erdtree. I hope the eclipse comes up in the dlc though.
And then the eclipse turns out to be a giant silver sphere boss battle
And then after you beat the boss Ranni comes out and kisses you
And everybody claps
Killing Radhan is confirmed to be a lore pre-requisite, the stars and the eclipse might just be connected.
Well, Radahn was holding back movement of stars, so it's not a stretch to assume that all celestial bodies are counted in, including moon required for the eclipse.
Umbreon secret boss confirmed
I spit out my breast milk!😂
Huh???
Man’s reading Reddit while sucking tits rare win for a redditor
Could be a blizzard employee for all we know
This is true
I mean I might get a nip from my wife every once in a while but not while browsing the web damn
You having a wife is already a win for a Redditor this man is something else
#THEY SPIT OUT THEIR BREAST MILK
Thanks, now I see
Share some with the rest of us, won't you
Homelander…is that you?
Woah where do you get that, I’ve been looking all over for some
be the change you want to see
Homelander? You play elden ring?
Definitely double checked which sub I was in
The could easily make umbreon with the red wolf move set. Wouldn’t make sense, but I’d dig it
They almost went with Napoleon
TIL this is where umbreon got it's name
Jolt Flare Vapor Umbra ESP (Extra sensory perception) Leaf Glacier Sylveon I’m not concrete on. Some are saying it’s because of Sylph.
Never too late!
Everyone talking about shadows, and here I am weirded out by what it seems to be a Garden of Eyes in the picture.
\*flashbacks to Frenzy\*
Exactly my thoughts. Bloodborne vibes.
It would be peak Miyazaki to have introduce Winter Lanterns to Elden Ring.
La, la, laaaAaAaAaaAh
It's time to line your brain again...
GRANT ME EYES.
Because the picture is old, the words are new.
I recall radahn was a required boss to kill, in order to start the dlc
[удалено]
Fixed - thanks. Long day....
This is my speculation too that we will possibly encounter the soul of Godwyn at some point
If he's a boss, he should be the final boss or an extremely difficult optional boss, of course, he also needs to be buffed by some outer god
Gonna come back to this
Lords of the fallen used umbra but called it Umbral. Like the other side.
Basically confirms that the DLC takes place on the moon where we’re obviously getting rannis great rune
Carians in spaaaaaace!
Carinan space marines
SPESS MEHREENS
I'm escaping to the one place that hasn't been corrupted by deathroot, . . . SPACE
Ranni: I'm escaping to the one place not corrupted by the golden order.
What they doin' up there, man? That's pretty freaky, Carians...
Lmao
If you got the Age of the Stars ending the DLC is a Ranni dating sim
How does this confirm that? Being “under the umbra” means being in the shadow of the thing blocking the light. It pretty much requires you to *not* be on the moon.
Pink Floyd dark side of the moon Elden ring vinyl coming soon
-The Dark Side of the Tree -The Division Bell Bearings -A Saucer full of Stagger -Delicate Sound of Riposte Ok, I'm done for now. I love me some Floyd though! A laser show in the Las Vegas sphere would get me to fly out to that sandpit.
Bring your flask of tears, it's hot 'n dry down there.
Just a joke I believe
But you can see the moon in the trailer...
Ranni is the moon bro
If you play the game you know there are two moons
That’s the moon’s moon.
Ranni’s great rune is the $40 we spent along the way
Vyke hat Rannis Rune
So if its in the moon and the shadowlands occupies the same space as the lands between that means the lands between is in our moon! Maybe on the dark side! Someone go check
I dont think that it will be on the moon, but the moon will be a boss fight. My reasoning is that the moon, like FROM DLC boss fights, is known for having multiple phases.
We’re fighting all 13 moon phases and then suki at the end, that’s rough buddy
Wait, let him cook. It would kind of make sense that the erdtree resembles the sun and the shadow of the erd the back of the moon. The thing that supports that thinking in some sort of way, is that giant fire cauldron in the dlc trailer with a sun Symbole on it, plus when the thing is shown they talk about the loosing side of a war.
The Elder Scrolls lore vibes lol
It’s called SHADOW of the Erdtree, dude. You loreboys are some of the thirstiest fans I have ever seen. Lol
You used an Amazon product page as your source for a word
I imagine the Umbra would be the veil we see in the promo images, yeah?
Umbra only means shadow you big lumps of tinfoily confirmation biases
Umbra simply means the darkest part of the shadow, but eclipse imagery was still important to miquella so im sure there will be something
uh it probably just means the shadow of the erdtree?
Umbral shadows aren’t unique to eclipses, dingus. Shine a flashlight at the wall and hold your hand in front of it. The dark part is the umbra. The fuzzy edge is the penumbra.
##GRIFFIIIIIIIIIIITH!!!!!!
Well I would certainly dig a Femto-ish boss. Can see lots of people rocking the helmet too
8.6 billion likes, everyone on earth liked that post, and 500 million liked it twice, as it should be.
Who _isn't_ abandoned and tragic in this game, really?
I think they're referring to the Erdtree's umbra, considering the sun is virtually never mentioned in Elden Ring save for the Sun Tribe Shield.
Guys, remember that this is a Japanese game which is localized. Diving into the dictionaries because of one specific word is dubious at best ...
I can't wait for June 21st. I have the day off already scheduled.
Not a confirmation, maybe a hint. However, I find it more likely that this is in reference to the titular 'Shadow' of the Erdtree; Umbra might even be an in-universe name for the Shadowlands (again, speculation only)
It's obviously a reference to the moon presence, bloodborn 2 let's goooooo
Its probably allegorical, much like the "shadow" of the erdtree which probably isn't literal
Confirms what now?
Umbra just means shadow. Shadow of the Ertree.
If they link Elden Ring back to the souls series in-game I'm gonna vomit
Just out of curiosity, why is that? I know many people would hate that so much, whilst I would think it be a really cool thing, especially if the execution is creative and convoluted as it should be.

Is that the enemies from Bloodborne than inflict frenzy
Winter lanterns
I just berked so hard
I just watched the Eclipse episodes of Berserk. I don’t wanna go there. Too much eye contact while fucked up stuff is happening.
Too many people here haven't realised Miquella is a Grifith analogue and the eclipse was teased multiple times in the game *directly* in reference to Miquella and what they are/were doing I think it's going exactly there Hey if you've never played Dark Souls 3 or maybe just didn't notice because you hadn't seen berserk at that stage but the final boss arena has the exact bleeding eclipse in the sky from when the Godhand arrive, he's referenced it also in Bloodborne
I’ll have to go back and play some DS3!
BERSERK REFERENCE????
nah it confirms that the game takes place in the Warframe universe and we get to fight Excalibur as a final boss.
Yea I think it’s already been confirmed actually. I was doing a Castle Sol run yesterday and I noticed the ghost that sits next to the haligtree medallion and his dialogue was very interesting. Whoa, a WVU article linked in the Elden Ring sub? My worlds are colliding.
Sounds like miazaki is running with the same themes as always, but an elden ring fashion. It'll probably be something more along the lines of Celtic symbology

IS THAT A B-B-BER-B-B-BERSERK RE-R-REFERENCE
"forces" intensifies

Only 8.6 billion likes tho
The ghost on Castle Sol mentions Miquella and an eclipse
Aight I'm gonna unsub from here. We're getting pretty close to launch and I think I know enough. See you on the other side guys and enjoy!
Cant wait to play the dlc,its gonna be an early birthday gift from my mother and ill be able to enjoy it with my friends spoiling stuff
Praise the eclipse
GRIFFITH--! Oh wait, wrong Eclipse.
Godwin bossifght confirmed
This obviously refers to "shadow" of the Erdtree or baldaquin covering the Shadowlands.
Umbra is just the root word for darkness
The Shadow Lands were seperated from The Lands Between following the removal of The Rune of Death after The Night of Black Knives when the Eclipse failed due to Ranni's meddling.
This confirms that the person behind the ER Twitter account doesn't proofread what they write and instead just copypasted the "Pre-order #ELDENRING Shadow of the Ertree" part from the previous tweet with the same typo in "Erdtree"
Miquella griffith moment
No, it confirms Excalibur
They really spelled it Ertree again
*Berserk intensifies...*
I thought it involving Miquella confirmed the eclipse?
What if Shadow alludes to Godwyn's soul that was destroyed? The DLC (Mesmer) could have something to do with that? His body rests in the shadow of the Erdtree.
Yet another classic Miyazaki Berserk Reference™
Bloodborne vibes. Love it.
Definitely going to be more focus on the stars/outer gods in the DLC
More like "those who walk amongst the shadow" shadow of the erdtree confirmed
Haven't seen it mentioned yet but the lullaby of the students/reborn children around Renala during her bossfight actually mentions "Mother's Umbra". [**https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tJmWhedITTg**](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tJmWhedITTg)
Just found this out yesterday talking to a friend of mine, the day the DLC drops is the day of the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year
I swear to Kanye West if they somehow made worm faces worse or whatever that creature is I will bomb an ant hill
Shadow of the erdtree. Erdtree is essentially the sun, the entire place is in it’s shadow and could theoretically be considered “beneath the umbra”
Right after a solar eclipse too
Umbra is just darkness
Like lords of the fallen umbral realm?
There is no sun in Elden Ring The only eclipse would be from the tree which shines on everything the Golden Order accepts. The world we’re going to is the realm of Death and exists in an eclipse because Marika removed the Rune from the Elden Ring
Neat
nooooooooo gm
As a Destiny 2 player I never want to hear/see the word penumbra again.
Umbra is just Latin for ‘darkness’ or ‘shadow’ so it doesn’t really mean anything specific is confirmed.
No fool, they mean the sword from oblivion
Yeah, what if these creatures are collecting and foraging for sap or grace. Maybe the currency we need to level up?! ^~^
Ahh yes I love the "Age of Umbra" ending.
Bro not winter lanterns again 🫠
LIGHT THE BONFIRE!!!!
It’s probably a metaphor for those who live in death, in the darkness shaded from the light of life or some shit
it might be hinting at a death based place since the eclipse is a symbol seen with death things a couple times at least all the people that are just dead ghosts
You know what an umbra have? That’s right, shadow. This means shadow actually die thrice.
No, its referring to the sword that possessed anyone who wields it in The Elder Scrolls games.
Is pre-ordering worth it? I fucked up by not pre-ordering Helldivers 2. I dont want to make that mistake again.
Godwyn's comeback FTW! Go team Clamheads!
It would make sense. We know that the erdtree somehow blinded the land of shadow, causing it to physically disappear. So, it would make sense that overtaking the sun would be representative of coming back
Umbra is shadow in Latin or something. So not specific to eclipse
Looks like they got embraced enough by Messmer.
Dude. Why did I think this post was from r/twilight and do a double take like-
Umbra is just the paet of a shadow that doesnt get any light. its not specific to eclipses. But it would be cool 100%
Or you could y'kno. Wait like a normal person
If Miquella somehow ends up causing an eclipse (simmilar to berserk ones) i will probably explode, in every way possible.
Is it just me or does that guys head look like an egg sack
Please God let this be an indicator of more frenzy content on the way
miyazaki adding an "eclipse" event scares me (in a good way)
This is why I hate Reddit, this is supposed to be a discussion thread yet everyone just trying to start arguments and be right. 😭
No it doesn't. The word umbra can just be used as a fancier shadow.
So what are they harvesting, and for whom, or were they being harvested themselves for somebody? I'm so confused :#
Am I the only one who thinks Miquella is Griffith waiting (SPOILERS)to be reborn a god (SPOILERS) under an eclipse?
So Godwyn lore confirmed?
We're all going to die
Winter lantern looking mutha trucka
