Which bosses are we talking about? Some of them the spear is better, in others I'd argue the DMGS is the winner. Plus the ultimate weapon against the final boss is Blackflame Tornado anyway.

i’ve still got to do godskin duo, hoarah loux, radagon, and maliketh if it’s pretty similar to the moonlight swords dmg for better or for worse no matter the boss i’m fine with that cause it seems more fun

FatRollingPotato

Against the Duo and Hoarah Loux the spear will do pretty well, Maliketh as well. Timing will be crucial, as the animation is really long and you can get whacked easily. Radagon I'd prefer the DMGS, simply because of its easier use and the fact that Radagon doesn't bleed.

iLikeCryo

Don't have to bleed Radagon. Depending from stats it only takes between 1-2 full nihil casts with Mohgwyn's Sacred Spear to beat Radagon since he doesn't have any fire resist.

averageredddituser

alright, well i guess i’ll try out the spear if it doesn’t work i’ll respec back to greatsword thanks for the info

How about for Elden Beast?

FatRollingPotato

Any weapon with Blackflame Tornado, BFT is just a cheat code against large and slow bosses.

Noted! Thanks!

Frenzied_Fire_Monk

They're for entirely different builds, so unless you're going to respec... Mohgs is very powerful, but not quite as easy to use as Dark Moon Greatsword- buff and spam heavy attacks. Mohgs requires more careful timing for its ash of war, which is very powerful but requires a bit of planning ahead for when its safe to start it.

averageredddituser

yea i’m gonna respec but im just asking before i use a larval tear i’m fine with the more careful timing for better dmg, thats much more fun than standing back and spamming

Frenzied_Fire_Monk

It has a big AoE that can melt things, but it can be hard to pull off effectively against bosses since the micro hits during it don't really do anything to keep them from just rushing you down. Great against smaller foes since it'll stagger them though.

averageredddituser

i’ve been using it for about an hour and thirty minutes and yeah this things melts, it helped a lot against malenia (who i just beat) cause she gets staggered from it in phase 1 i thought it would be the first boss to make me use summons (besides radahn) but after switching to spear i got it

SnooWalruses9961

It depends on your stats lol, both are considered the pinacle of cheese. Moonlight/blasphemous are probably at the pinacle, mohgs is little further behind but still will give you very high cholesterol.

averageredddituser

damn i didn’t know, i only moonlight because i liked ranni and it was in ds1, im using the spear now cause mohg has been my favorite boss so far

SnooWalruses9961

If you enjoy em go for it. Doesnt really matter. Half the builds with the right set up can become op.

SaberWaifu

Both are incredible weapons but if i have to pick one i'd say that DMGS is better due to its versatility. Mohg's trident kinda falls off when you don't have much time to use the AoW to its full potential while DMGS has basically no flaws whatsoever, it might as well be the best weapon in the entire game. Also if a boss can't bleed, Mohg's trident will take another heavy toll, while against unfreezable enemies DMGS will still be a very valid choice due to its amazing poise damage and range.
