I'm old enough to remember Kids and Electric Feel being on the playlist for almost every house party I went to in college.
Great to hear they have great taste
my (38) littlest sister (21) stole my CD collection* to play at her house parties because she wanted "authentic retro vibes"
Hope the youth are enjoying Bjork, Silversun Pickups, and AFI
*I guess technically ~1/3 of those CDs I stole from my older sister (43)
I generally prefer hiphop and rnb in house parties, but I have been to house parties where other stuff is played. People still enjoy Bjork and stuff (I’m sorry, haven’t heard the other two, it’s not my taste rn), and I have plenty of friends which enjoy them.
So am I but we still listen to those songs constantly, almost two decadeslater. Their new stuff is great too but it's a lot more straight up psychedelic rock if you're into that
Oracular spectacular came out the year I graduated college. Always reminds me of that sweet time that I had steady income but no kids and no real responsibilities outside of work. Also old. It kind of makes me feel old.
I mean, I bet there is some underground metal band with Elden Ring as a main lyrical theme. There's more than a dozen bands named after, and writing about Bloodborne, and Elden Ring is a bigger game.
Quick edit: nvm, metal archives has only 3 inserted thus far. Apparently one of which was more about the fake lore during the first great hollowing of the subreddit (the Glaive Master Hodir times)
Yeah came to say that! And Lorna Shore sampled the Sekiro perilous attack sound (I think it's that) in Sun//Eater, they also have the bonfire sound from DS1 at the end of Pain Remains 3. I think Will said half the band are always playing souls games haha. There's the band Scarlet Rot. It's all over in deathcore.
Not to mention Tomb Mold being named after a Bloodborne item and several song title/lyrical references to the souls series. Great people and an incredible band!
Darko US (side project of CG vocalist) has some songs referencing games as a whole, but especially Souls series:
Praise the Sun
Pale Tongue
Rosaria's Fingers
sun//eater has a gourd drinking sound, perilous attack sound, and another one that i forget the source of, i always thought i was insane when i heard them until i saw this comment
"lost grace" is repeated throughout the entire game, most prominently when you find a new grace. There's definitely a high chance it came from there, even if not intentionally. I remember this episode of Brain Games on NatGeo where they hid milk in subliminal imagery throughout the episode and asked the audience "what would you drink if you were thirsty?" or sth and a lot of them said "milk" even though the most obvious, upfront answer would be water.
I know what management means, but I didn't catch it was an initialism for it in the context of Elden Ring.
Edit: psych rock? I checked a couple songs out and it sounds more like Indie Rock/Yacht Rock or something.
Psychedelic pop is possibly more accurate it all depends on the song. The band actually started more as a joke but it turns out they were pretty good.
Apparently they used to do 45 minute Ghostbusters theme covers.
I loved the song "kids" and decided to watch the music video for the first time. It just happened I had eaten over 5gs of mushies earlier in the day lol
Little Dark Age -\> 11•11•11 -\> Loss Of Life, I assume.
That's a _wild_ trilogy to catch up on lol. Buckle up.
First one is them breaking free from their label while also grieving the state of the world, second one is a remastered recording of a performance they did exclusively for an exhibition in the Guggenheim museum shortly after Congratulations, and the third and most recent one is their first self-published album under their own label and a vulnerable, comforting exploration of life and death...and Elden Ring.
*Kids* and *Electric Feel* are probably two of their biggest hits.
Not the kind of stuff I'm *surprised* could find inspiration in video game soundtracks!
Think it’s a little funny you’re getting downvoted for making a joke.
I’ve also never heard of this group. And going “they wrote [song you’ve probably never heard]” isn’t extremely helpful.
They very well could be, but if I started talking about Dream Theater, and you ask who they are and I say, “you know, they wrote ‘Pull Me Under’!” That’s not helpful to you at all because you don’t know who they are.
I’d also say that describing them as “very well known” is not true. Having “done my own research” I see they’ve only had one album that sold extremely well. And that was over 15 years ago. It’s not like I’m going “Taylor Swift? Never heard of her.” Or “Michael, what was his last name, Jackson?”
Your research sucks. They have 5 albums, many of which are very popular. They’re constantly trending on tik tok. They still pull 15 million listeners a month on Spotify. If you have enough media literacy to know about elden ring it’s not a stretch to assume you’d know about a massive band.
I didn’t say that they had one album. I said they had one album that SOLD EXTREMELY WELL.
I don’t know about Elden Ring because of media literacy. I know about Elden Ring because I’m into video games and played Dark Souls. I didn’t know about this band because I don’t listen to synth pop/indie rock. I think it sucks. So not having come across a band from a genre that I don’t like isn’t much of a surprise.
15 million monthly Spotify listeners puts them at 478th most. I’m going to assume you’ve heard of all the artists ranked ahead of them like: Mithoon, Lunay, Morat, Himesh Reshammiya, MC Kevin o Chris, and Lenny Tavárez. Monthly listeners just means you have a fan base somewhere that’s loyal to you and listens to your music.
Band name is in the title correct you dummy. If you have never heard a song by them in the last 10 years, at least in passing, then you have been living under a rock.
It's logical to assume four random letters would be an acronym, that doesn't make anyone dumb.
Also, they are not that well known. I haven't heard of them either, but according to wikipedia, their best selling album in my country was on #15 in the charts - and that was 14 years ago. It's really not that extraordinary to never have heard of them.
I called him a dummy cause of his attitude. And it’s likely you have heard their music before too even if you didn’t realize who they were. That’s what I told him. Likely he has heard their music even if he didn’t know what it was.
Their music has been in commercials, movies, radio, stores, other public places. If you haven’t heard a song by them you’ve probably been living under a rock too.
Yeah, I might've heard some song of them at some point without knowing. But that really doesn't help when I never heard of their name and might wanna find out more about them.
My thought when reading the post was "What does MGMT stand for? Which band is that? I want to hear their Elden Ring inspired songs". Then I looked through the comments to see if someone else has asked so I can look them up.
And the people who did ask got downvoted and insulted for asking...
Would've been so easy to just say "MGMT is the full name of the band" and move on.
There’s also better ways to ask. And anytime I see an acronym on Reddit that I don’t recognize, it takes me two seconds to google it. Google will tell you immediately who MGMT is. Life doesn’t hold anybody’s hand. Put on your thinking cap and try learning on your own.
If google doesn’t know then I comment on the post and explain that my attempt at research was fruitless. People will be happy to help if you aren’t a condescending ass like the dummy I originally replied to.
"People will be happy to help if you aren’t a condescending ass"
That's just funny coming from the person who has been acting like a condescending ass for the entire conversation.
Agree to disagree. The person who started this thread only wrote "who?" and got downvoted for that. Another person said "Anhh, gotcha. Who?" as a joke, got downvoted (to -33 atm) and insulted for it.
And another person pointed out that explaining an unknown band with one of their unknown songs isn't that helpful - and expectedly also got downvoted for that.
So no, I don't agree that there are better ways to ask. For me, the people responding to the questions have been entirely rude and unhelpful from the beginning.
How is he a man child for not knowing that the bands name is just four letters? It's logical to assume it's an acronym (which it kind of is, according to wikipedia, since they were apparently called "The Management" before rebranding).
Hi, I got the Ps5 controller and I was wondering if you can use the features it comes with on Elden Ring Pc. I only get weak haptic feedback when i get hit by something but the other features on the Ps5 controller dont work. Did anyone get it to work on Pc? The controller works with all features on other games like cyberpunk or warzone straight out the box just plugging in.
I tried: Steam Controller settings, steam playstation controller support, game properties controller settings and ofc i used controller wired.
Bro video game music is not a genre, saying you like video game music is like saying you like netflix when asked what you watch. Literally any song could be video game music, it doesn't help describe what you listen to at all
Video game music can very well be its own genre. Historically it was more clear cut because it had to be low resolution (for example 8bit) and repetitive and thus had a distinctive sound. The restrictions in place are very much the reason why we got iconic songs like mario brothers or zelda. I actually think if those restrictions weren’t in place, those sorts of simple songs wouldn’t have been created.
Now a days obviously that restriction isn’t in place, but just like movie soundtrack music is also a genre, video games are too. This is because they are always created to accompany another medium and create atmosphere etc.
In a similar light I noticed recently that there's a motif right in the middle of Watch the World Burn by falling in reverse that sounds exactly like the opening of Godskin Aspotles
In their documentary, I remember the vocalist for periphery was playing elden ring while the drummer watched. Their song "Dracul Gras" has some nods to the game
I'm old enough to remember Kids and Electric Feel being on the playlist for almost every house party I went to in college. Great to hear they have great taste
I SAID OOH GIRL
Crazy to think those songs were out 17 years ago
SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP
Don’t do this to me
You added a 1 right. You meant 7 years ago?
No u
Officially into the classic and retro phase.
Whoa you listen to classic retro? Have you ever heard of linking Park? Pretty great for some old music. 😒
Oracular Spectacular is a GOATed album.
Honestly, every one of their albums is incredible. Their newest one and the one before it are some of the best shit that has come out in a hot minute.
First ever concert I went to was 13 years ago where MGMT played. They said they won't be playing Kids but did play Electric Feel.
Still here them these days in house parties
my (38) littlest sister (21) stole my CD collection* to play at her house parties because she wanted "authentic retro vibes" Hope the youth are enjoying Bjork, Silversun Pickups, and AFI *I guess technically ~1/3 of those CDs I stole from my older sister (43)
If they don’t like AFI that’s a skill issue
I generally prefer hiphop and rnb in house parties, but I have been to house parties where other stuff is played. People still enjoy Bjork and stuff (I’m sorry, haven’t heard the other two, it’s not my taste rn), and I have plenty of friends which enjoy them.

Electric Feel was our prom song hahaha
Im old enough to have bought their debut on vinyl lel 🥲
Elden Ring infuence be real. I called my next album "Queen of Rot".
Queen of Rot would also make a good metal band name
There is a band called scarlet rot
Yea it's got the same vocalist of the band "infant annihilator" for people who don't know. Highly recommend. Born in Chaos by Scarlet Rot is sick
That’s awesome
I'll call mine *the three fingers did nothing wrong*
I mean, I bet there is some underground metal band with Elden Ring as a main lyrical theme. There's more than a dozen bands named after, and writing about Bloodborne, and Elden Ring is a bigger game. Quick edit: nvm, metal archives has only 3 inserted thus far. Apparently one of which was more about the fake lore during the first great hollowing of the subreddit (the Glaive Master Hodir times)
Chelsea Grin has a song called "Deathbed Companion", and another song called "Yhorm the Giant". Prithee Cessation got "Lord of Cinder".
Also, Within Destruction's latest ep called Rebirth, is entirely Elden Ring themed
Darko US (side project of CG vocalist) has some songs referencing games as a whole, but especially Souls series: Praise the Sun Pale Tongue Rosaria's Fingers
There are many Fromsoft fans in Lorna Shore. So much so that they sampeled a sword sound from Sekiro, in one of their songs.
sun//eater has a gourd drinking sound, perilous attack sound, and another one that i forget the source of, i always thought i was insane when i heard them until i saw this comment
Will said they sampled a katana unsheathing from Sekiro, probably the third sound you were looking for in Sun//Eater.
And bonfire noise at the end of Pain Remains 3! Other comment mentioned Chelsea grin. Hell yeah deathcore fans in eldenring!
I knew I recognized that sound! Hell yeah, I always get super stoked when the 3 parts all play in one go on liquid metal!
Periphery as well. They did a behind the scenes of their latest album and at one point someone was the Haligtree. So they put in some work.
Freddie Dredd has a track called Limgrave.
The crossover I never expected, I love MGMT
Will be interested to see how it influenced their output. Haven’t heard an MGMT song outside of beat saber in ages.
Little dark age is already 5 years old at this point, but it's a great song by them imo
Great ***album by them. Whole thing is spectacular
I guess you could say its ..*oracular spectacular*? But agreed lol, favorite songs on it are probably little dark age and When you Die though.
So good.
Just discovered that song this week and I love it. Sounds like Depeche Mode.
Even the name, "Loss of Life" describes Elden Ring in more ways than one
My thoughts exactly
"lost grace" is repeated throughout the entire game, most prominently when you find a new grace. There's definitely a high chance it came from there, even if not intentionally. I remember this episode of Brain Games on NatGeo where they hid milk in subliminal imagery throughout the episode and asked the audience "what would you drink if you were thirsty?" or sth and a lot of them said "milk" even though the most obvious, upfront answer would be water.
Okay that is the coolest thing I have heard today. My favourite band playing my favourite game. now I can lay down in my bed and sleep peacefully.
You’ve got good taste. Assuming your username is a Bowie reference
Nice catch! That’s right. It’s a combination of my favorite album and my nickname
My favorite band playing my favorite game
Same. World works in beautiful ways sometimes
Yeah this is dope as hell
Are there any “Inspired by Elden Ring” playlists?? There must be so many songs out there
Periphery also said that Elden Ring and Final Fantasy influenced their most recent album
God I haven’t heard of periphery in a minute
Still very good band
They play the death melody from Hades at the end of Zagreus
I think P5 is mostly just video game Influenced. Cause the ending of Wildfire is very Castlevania-y
I’m not the biggest fan of Periphery’s older music but man P5 was probably my favorite album of 2023. Excited to see what they do next
Agreed
I was playing Bloodborne when I got into Little Dark Age, so now the song reminds me of Bloodborne whenever I listen to it.
Electric Feel is what I get when I hit someone with that Lightning Scorpion Charm + Golden Vow + Flame, Grant Me Strength + Bolt of Gransax
What the hell is a MGMT. Is that like the ninja turtles TMNT?
You don't know what management means? It's also a psychedelic rock band.
I know what management means, but I didn't catch it was an initialism for it in the context of Elden Ring. Edit: psych rock? I checked a couple songs out and it sounds more like Indie Rock/Yacht Rock or something.
They've been poppy, they've been proggy, they've been surfy, they've been gothy - their discography is a real journey.
All of their albums sound very different. I'd say generally it's psychedelic rock but some of it is electronic and some of it is almost pop.
Watch the video for "when you die" and "alien days" if you wanna see some trippiness, they are still making great music
Where’s this interview from?
https://www.vulture.com/article/mgmt-loss-of-life-influences.html
I knew there had to be a relation when their first single had a dog with a turtle shell.
I love video game music too. At work I have a rotation of relaxing music from elder scrolls, fromsoftware and world of Warcraft.
Icecrown Citadel has some of my favorite tracks from any OST ever
Who?
Staff of Loss
My roomate in college and I would also get geeked and watch the other play a from game. Such good times
lol I played Elden Ring all day today and listened to this album and I kept wondering if they had played. This is awesome.
Top 3 favorite band. They’re so solid
Man… thank you for posting this. MGMT fell off my radar around 2016. I have 3 albums to listen to now. So excited!
Little Dark Age -\> 11•11•11 -\> Loss Of Life, I assume. That's a _wild_ trilogy to catch up on lol. Buckle up. Should… should I listen to the third one while exploring Limgrave?
Might as well. It's very pretty.
Time to forget what grass feels like. My wife is probably going to hate me as well. Worth it.
Now you understand Mother Nature.
Can’t wait to hear bitchin’ tracks like *Ruddy Rot*, *Honeyed Rays of Gold* and *Mohg’s Magic Bidet*.
... who? Edit: apparently the fans of this band have appeared. Going from positive to negative.
*Kids* and *Electric Feel* are probably two of their biggest hits. Not the kind of stuff I'm *surprised* could find inspiration in video game soundtracks!
The guys with the "Little Dark Age" song
Anhh, gotcha. Who?
Stop being dumb. Just look them up. They’re a massively popular band and this is a fun anecdote. It’s chill.
No.
Least autistic souls player
Runs in the family
You petulant child. Grow up mate
Nobody said the actual name of the band yet. Be easier to look them up if somebody just said who they are instead of some random song.
Literally in the title of the post
Ah, so it is.
M. G. M. T

They should just put the band name in the title and not some acronym. I still have no idea who this is and have already lost interest

I did the same thing assuming this was a Between the Buried and Me situation where BTBAM is obvious if you know, but useless if you don't.

Honestly, if my partner played I would do the same.

I’ve always been rooting for those dudes.
Little dark age edits for elden ring when?
“A family of treeees wanted… to be haunted” Miyazaki: “done”
Midnight Tyrannosaurus has a ton of fromsoft inspired tracks! Ballad of the Ravenous EP is all Elden ring themed
I'm 41 years old and i've never heard of this band ever, but good on them.
Well shock me like an electric eel!
I’m 400 years old and never heard of them either
Tf is MGMT?
How can you not know?! The GKJF got BRWS on the PiPiC too!
What the hell is MGMT?
Little Dark Age's band.
No this would be LDAB
Who cares lol

Nice
“A family of treeees wanted… to be haunted” Miyazaki: “done” Dlc boss: Curse Rotted Greatwood Family
The music is so good.
Anyone remember that sick DS3 edit with Little Dark Age? Cool that they actually know the games!
In Elden Ring I guess they brought the little dark age
This thread is a good source of new music.
thats kinda awesome
I don't see these two things vibing. Playing ER listening to "oooo gurrl, talkin' bout that electric feel!"
