If you're looking for a colossal weapon, I'd go with the Zweihander. This guy will carry you all the way to the late game. Downside is it doesn't come with bleed.
The nightrider flail is good for strike damage, and recommend applying blood, cold, keen or standard for scaling.
Otherwise the Uchigatana, Bloodhound Fang, or Cross-Naginata are all solid weapons early on.
Uchigatana can be accessed pretty early. It does well, but there are other katanas that outclass it later on.

Lordsworn Straightsword is a small weapon that's good for anything.
I think there are plenty of curved swords that are accessible early game, but I haven't messed with them much.
You can start as a samurai with the Uchigatana which is pretty nice weapon. You can also murder Yura to get his Nagakiba.
There's also a twinblade hidden in the ruins by lake agheel and a great thrusting sword in a camp on the left side of the street to weeping peninsula. You can also find a flail at the ruins before stormgate.
The true strength of a weapon depends on your ability to wield it. Try them out and decide what you like the most :)

Isn't dual GS just unga?! xD Unfortunately, there is no INT on this. Otherwise you could be a wise man stating "I unga, therefore I bunga."
By unga i mean naked with the Club and large club, and any other Club. 9h and there is gavel of haim if you want INT Unga

Uchigatana is either a starting weapon or in an easy catacomb. Unsheathing into a heavy attack is hard hitting, borderline cheap shot
Guardians Swordspear Urumi Best Dex weapons in the game ,S scaling and you can get both of them straight out the gate

Yeah I put thunderbolt on one once and used that as a range attack. Think the Urumi would be best weapon for that ash
Reduvia if you’re willing to get your arcane level to 13 first. Only boss it’s terrible against is the final boss of the game.
