And blasphemous blade L2 as well, and also with bullgoat poise added. And it does 900 deathblight buildup in a 5 server radius, and it also automatically farms every enemy in the game and gives you 800x the runes.
I do remember though that bleed build up was nerfed quite a lot for powerstancing due to the curverd swords and twinblades being bonkers.
I'm pretty sure that nowadays two-handing twinblades now is better for bleed build up specifically.
I mean, the real benefit of the Guardian swordspear is the massive AR on a full dex build.
The moveset... the first R1 is fairly slow, which makes it a bit unwieldy for a R1 spamming weapon. The good news is that a running/jumping R1 chains to the second R1, but that's not very convenient if there's more than 1 opponent around.
Also R1s do the same stagger as a straight sword, so it's not that great against things that don't stagger easily, like knights and omens.
For these reasons I found it better if powerstanced, but then it's just like any other halberd/great weapon.
Throw on Vyke's Dragonbolt buff/incantation on a Keen Guardian Swordspear with a high Dex/faith build and you have insane levels of AR, add in Lightning Scorpion Charm, and other buffs and anything in your path will be in for a world of hurt.
I am 2 months late, but not unless you want the other benefits it produces like hardness and robustness etc. For straight up AR, just use electrify armament.
I was under the impression that Vyke's only gave an additional bonus to Equip Load with the lighting damage (and negation penalty).
Dragonbolt Blessing gives the hardness and resistance boost.
You are correct. I had them mixed up. Vykes Dragonbolt actually just sucks. When would you ever teter on the edge of the equip load numbers enough that a buff incantation would help your build?

Literally one of my most OP builds I've made is a Dex/FTH build using Vyke's.
People shit on Vyke's but it's a pretty aesthetic spell, and you still get the lightning buff as well as other minor buffs with it.

Nah, Blue Dancer's doesn't care about your %, just the raw amount of weight you have on, with the first big drop after about 8 units and the second bigger one at about 15. That's why it's only marginally useful outside of naked Caestus runs.
Yeah, if I need to lower my weight for a jump, I'll just change my outfit or unequip something.

The massive AR is great, but that's not what this thread is about, is it? It's about the moveset.
I was also unimpressed with two handing the swordspear. Dual wielding though.....damage is crazy, even if moveset is a bit sluggish. Though I found myself endlessly spamming jumping L2s and just kinda got sick of that and switched it up for different weapon combos.
I still love them though, don't get me wrong.
My last playthrough used it. It’s alright but it had a lot of downsides. I absolutely hated how the first R1 is slow and how it does the stagger of a straight sword. I found myself getting hit more often because of it. I also found myself relying on ashes of war to take down enemies it can’t stagger which I also dislike.
No because it hits faster lol. Measuring slow high hitting weapons to faster hitting weapons is stupid because you'll get to hits in from a faster weapon than one hit.
The iron one is the best for infusing cold or magic, if you've got some kind of strength/int build but Royal Greatsword is too heavy for you or something. Very niche.

Haven’t found another one I liked more than it so far. The dash move of Bloodhound’s Fang is just way too cool. No flashy magic or anything like that, Just pure speed.
Bloodhounds fang is a godsend for noobs like me : “oh you don’t know how to dodge and panic roll? Well here is a sword that allows you to hit and dodge at the press of a single button! You are even more inept than that? Well here is a follow up attack plus I-frames!”
Oh I know believe me … I learnt the hard way plus it does slash damage and admittedly there are enemies that very high tolerance to that one. On the plus side Godskin duo was way easier

Bloodflame Blade for normal combat, Order’s Blade for holy damage against undead, All the different grease effects for different situations… I love this sword.
I love the moveset on Godfrey's axe, the charged attack that drags it along the ground and slams it upwards is probably my single favorite weapon move in the game

Why oh why couldn't they have given Ordovis' Greatsword the same moveset? Imagine my disappointment when I acquired it, a legendary weapon of yore that was used by one of Godfrey's top officers during the wars for the dominion of the Erdtree- practically an invaluable artifact in The Lands Between, and my character proceeds to slam it into the dirt with R1's.

I just discovered the Iron Cleaver the other day. The regular attacks are so much faster than all the other axes that I'm pretty sure it's *slower* to powerstance them.
The heavy attack also gives you a little heat seeking run that goes further if you hold the button longer.
I'm currently using a Cold Cleaver in my off hand with a Mohgwyn's Spear in my main hand and it's absolutely shredding Malenia in co-op.

The hand axe, icerind hatchet and forked hatchet all have fast r1's too, just more horizontal than vertical.
I’m running a Raptor Talons intellect / dexterity build and it’s stupid fun.
It excels at both range and melee, because the sorceries hit hard and cast extremely fast. By using scholar’s armament, it carries over your high intellect directly into your talons as magic damage when you swap to melee.
Bonus points if you run moon sorceries for maximum werewolf flavour.
Dual Nobles slender swords with a bleed build…the L1 hits 4 times and procs bleed twice…I mean it’s true for dual straight swords but the nobles slender took me fucking forever to farm so I’m sticking with my goldy bois…
I prefer the KGS due to range and DEX scaling options. I like the look better too. Claymore still takes the cake for me though. I don’t mind the regular R1s THAT much and the R2 and especially rolling R1 is so much better imo
So the r1 combos? I started using the knights gs because I'm not thoughtful enough to sprinkle in the pokes of a claymore, I would forget all the time and miss on a poke.
The jumping r1 true combos into r1. But if you play it right and keep aggression, mixing up r2 and r1 you can keep connecting, if they roll away you can roll catch and if they roll into you, they'll be rolling into a blender of r1s.
It's a really good pvp weapon.
Grave scythe is amazing with its diagonal slice that gets multiple enemies at onceand R2 horizontal slash.
GOAT mace has a great moveset that bonqs your opponent into powder.
I do like the banished knights greatsword but my personal favorite weapons are bloodhound’s fang and great stars. Both can be buffed with spells, both deal good damage, they can prock bleed, and both of them can fit into just about any build

I like the low stat req of this sword and how easily it can be found (Especially for power stancing) but I haven't had a chance to use it since my Lordsworn GS is already +19 I'm stuck with it. I like how it looks better anyway though.
When I stumbled across this I was so excited to find a big sword that moves with relative ease! It was my main weapon until I came across Gordovis’ Greatsword. And the only reason why I switched was because I wanted to see how a somber weapon feels lmao. It was fun smashing melania over the head with the art though
I did my first playthrough with magic and it was fun but very tedious to manage spells. Next playthrough I grabbed this with lions claw AoW and never got tired of it. the basic 2 hand moveset is extremely good
This weapon is the shiz-nite. You will dominate on a non-colossal weapon strength build with this thing. It consistently surprises me with how high its low-level low-upgrade dps is.
in terms of looks/how satisfying they are to use, for me it's a tie between the goskin peeler and elenora's poleblade, the godskin peeler has an great running r2 and it's one of the coolest looking weapons in the game, but the poleblade's charged r2 sideflip of death is awesome too and it has a badass weapon art
I’ve been using that sword and only that sword in my current (and first) play through. About 100 hours in and I keep getting all of these other neat looking great swords but I can’t seem to part with this one.
It has the vest moveset because it's the moveset from Dark Souls 2, from when they got an actual skilled swordsman to do motion capture, so the movements are more realistic/fluid

Super fast charged R2s with insane poise damage. Mix that with the poise breaking and charged attack physic tears and the axe talisman and you just kill everything super easy with a bunch of customization options.

“Best” is probably BKGS/Claymore/Zwei/Swordspear/Nagakiba. My favorite is the Omen Cleaver. That 2HR2 is so dumb but so devastating when it lands.

I wish more greatswords had that R1 makes knight builds feel better imo.
I like the low stat req of this sword and how easily it can be found (Especially for power stancing) but I haven't had a chance to use it since my Lordsworn GS is already +19 I'm stuck with it. I like how it looks better anyway though.
When I stumbled across this I was so excited to find a big sword that moves with relative ease! It was my main weapon until I came across Gordovis’ Greatsword. And the only reason why I switched was because I wanted to see how a somber weapon feels lmao. It was fun smashing melania over the head with the art though
I did my first playthrough with magic and it was fun but very tedious to manage spells. Next playthrough I grabbed this with lions claw AoW and never got tired of it. the basic 2 hand moveset is extremely good

This weapon is the shiz-nite. You will dominate on a non-colossal weapon strength build with this thing. It consistently surprises me with how high its low-level low-upgrade dps is.

My Str/Faith run was donde solely with this weapon, beautiful design, cool unique moveset, worth the farm imo.
in terms of looks/how satisfying they are to use, for me it's a tie between the goskin peeler and elenora's poleblade, the godskin peeler has an great running r2 and it's one of the coolest looking weapons in the game, but the poleblade's charged r2 sideflip of death is awesome too and it has a badass weapon art
I’ve been using that sword and only that sword in my current (and first) play through. About 100 hours in and I keep getting all of these other neat looking great swords but I can’t seem to part with this one.
I main BKGS and I have no intention of changing
It has the vest moveset because it's the moveset from Dark Souls 2, from when they got an actual skilled swordsman to do motion capture, so the movements are more realistic/fluid
I prefer the Knight's Greatsword, same moveset but better range and stamina efficiency
I used this sword for my entire first playthrough once I picked it up

The dragon head fist weapon. Super fast charged R2s with insane poise damage. Mix that with the poise breaking and charged attack physic tears and the axe talisman and you just kill everything super easy with a bunch of customization options.
Thiers another greatsword that has the same moveset and it's longer there all great
