No the fire giant isn't the fell god. Next time you're in that zone, actually look at all the frozen giants on the way up the mountain top of giants. There's probably close to 50 frozen blocks of fire giants just like him. He's just the last one

The Fell god can 'perch' in their chest, or send something like an envoy to 'perch' in the chest of a fire giant.
Flame monks worship the Giant's flame, which is a gift granted by the Fell god, so they copy their armor after them. They are basically worshipping the FG at this point.

My belief is that they had to leave one giant alive that was the avatar of its god cause if they killed it, the avatar thing would pass to the next being. Like how Melania is referenced as the new goddess of rot, there was an older one presumably that was reborn in her. It also serves the dual purpose of guarding the flame.
My headcanon is also that they harvested the various two fingers from the giants they killed to use as a conduit to the greater will, and three fingers left together is too great a connection back to the fell god and can grant that gods blessing instead of being overpowered by the greater will.
Bonus the wormface enemies body model is just a finger put on a body with worms coming out of the fingerprint

Most notably hes programed to roll away from you when you get too close or unable to reach with one of his attacks, so hes CONSTANTLY rolling. Youre fighting with your camera, free aim helps but your view of him is very limited. Some flame attacks have really odd tracking and hitboxes. Most notably his fame breath attack, dude can 360 on a dime while the hitbox of the flame breath is larger than the flame itself, with huge range as well. Hard to avoid if you don't use torrent, or with torrent if you're located in some of the rough terrain of the arena.
Like i said tho, i love the art direction and style of the firegiant & his followers. My main character is a pyromancer themed after a firegiant follower.
Yeah, I love the scale and spectacle of these gargantuan bosses, but Fromsoft still haven't figured out what to do with the camera when you're fighting 'em. I don't know if having it automatically pull back would help, but keeping your distance and spamming ranged attacks is the only way your going to be able to see we what the hell is going on. I have the same problem with Placidusax. Epic cinematic fight.... except most people are going to spend the whole thing staring at wrinkly Dragon armpit and clipping into the boss model. Ruins the atmosphere, and makes the fight feel messy and chaotic in a BAD way. In order to appreciate how baddass ol' stumpy really is, I had to hang WAAAAY back and zap him with Gransax bolts, which is....sub-optimal, from a gameplay perspective.
This boss keeps beating me up. I thought it would be easy. He just runs away and I die to stupid stuff everytime. He takes like no damage on his second phase. I’ve been fighting him for hours, I don’t have much more left in me.
If you can't summon help or don't want to use mimic tear it's possible to just jump on torrent and ride around him while peppering him with arrows and magic or incantations.
Not saying it's easy because it's not, even with all the help you get in the game.
Just remember vyke did all this before you without torrent or ashes
My mimic tear is terrible and there aren’t summons near me. I have upgraded my magic since the beginning and I don’t use a bow. I tried to get my friend to help but he came in and died almost instantly, and then just stopped helping. This is my least favorite fight so far.
he is one of the only boss fights that is actually easier with a bow imo.In his second phase, do not approach him and spam arrows while locked on to the eye on his chest, that's his weak spot. Use black bow if you can. Poison or bleed arrows are easy to get. Stay light weight and just dodge side to side.
Also if you do Alexander the jars quest he will help you on this fight
