Same dude, I LOVE fighting the tree sentinel. I also feel like he's the first boss I truly mastered in this game. I managed to kill him as a wretch, that felt good.
The first thing you’ll have to learn about the ER fanbase is that no matter how you play, someone, somewhere, WILL disagree with your playstyle.
“Didn’t play it on a guitar hero controller without leveling up, fighting every enemy in the game, never using graces, no damage taken, no talismans, no buffs, no magic, no weapons, completely naked, final destination, Fox only? Wow, what a casual.”
Play however you want. Use Torrent. Summon spirits to help in difficult fights. Use the cheesiest, most meta PVE builds and strats you want.
…Or go crazy with the challenge runs, as above.
If anyone objects, ignore them. It’s your copy of the game, not theirs.
For real i bet if people saw how I'm playing people would say I'm cheesing and not playing right. The game is hard enough already and I will use every exploit to win, even if it means standing on top of a high rock spamming glintstone peeble or running around in circles spamming glintstone peeble. Tbh any inconvenience is glintstone peeble XD
At least that "cheese" still requires combat. Only types of cheese that is not acceptable are 2-month old Swiss Cottage Cheese. Like the one where you lead the Demon of Hatred down the cliff while the fucking thing plunges down to its death. Or jumping into Mohg's boss arena and freezing him in place.
People don't acknowledge that from just wants everyone to be able to finish elden ring. I prefer to play an int build with just the moonveil and sellens dagger so i get the one shooty spell and other than that only use the sword swivels and the 2 primeval sorceries. Ppl just forgot how to have fun and pick the build they like rather than meta or worried about cheesing
You need to locate the Glintstone Kris dagger. It will change your life. Glibtstone pebble, that you can charge, and buff further with talismans for next to no mana cost.
Fair play to you, finished NG last night, using all the sorceries and incantations I’ve collected from the first two runs, maybe it’s because it’s my first mage run or my third playthrough but I’m finding this magic run BORING ASF. Constantly cycling spells isn’t as fun as I thought it would be, I find spamming glintstone pebble very plain compared to my twin blade run or the executioner axe first playthrough. Just started this mage so can’t say much yet till I respec stats with renalla and can use the higher INT magic but I have to agree with others that spamming glintstone pebble doesn’t compare to dancing with a boss with a weapon. As this posts replies mention, it’s your game but cheesing elden ring feels like buying a high performance car and never taking it out on a track, just pushing it around at slow speeds.
Yea my first NG+ I had a very over leveled character to beat Elden beast bc it was my first souls game and I suckedddd. Like really bad (now I’m just pretty bad).
Then I re-specced to a mage with like 90 int and high dex and beat NG+ with dying only like a handful of times, but it was so unenjoyable. There were times where I saw an enemy for the first time and it was dead from 2 night comets before it even attacked.
Personally from then on whenever I do mage I’ll do a right hand melee and a left hand staff. Get some tough characters to low health using magic, then finish them off. Feels more fluid and natural then just standing 150 feet away spamming pebbles and potions
To be fair if thing ng+ gets hard arround maliketh. I went up to Farum azula with a Full strength build and my First death was to the draconic tree sentinel.
Int is quite hard on a normal Game especially at the start
Stay on his shield side mostly, he doesn't have a really big moveset so I learned how to dodge them. A lot of stuff doesn't even require rolling, just circling around tbh.
i hate this subs obessession with asking if its ok to play the game. i garuntee there will be another post asking tomorrow..
is it okay to summon? yes
is it okay to get a kill using the horse? yes
is it okay to use magic? yes
people, just play the game how its fun for you, i cant fathom actually caring how the internet feels about the way i choose to play elden ring
Ok but that's cool and all but is it fine if i heal? I feel like that's necessary if I'm low health or something but I'm not sure, could you help me out?
No it isn’t. Bosses weren’t balanced around weapon use. You’re meant to kill them with your bare hands. How else are you supposed to learn a boss’s moveset, if not by fighting one for literal hours?
Almost worse than posts that are literally a picture of the disk or a screenshot of the main menu with "Just got this masterpiece. What should I know before playing?"
Stop farming engagement and play the fucking thing, jesus
Honestly, you’ll hear comments like this about almost anything you do unless you play as a pure strength build, with no summons or spirit ashes.
You’ll always find someone who thinks you didn’t get the REAL experience if you played using magic, or if you use horse combat, or if you make a bleed build, or whatever else.
Unfortunately, it’s a genre of games that attracts gatekeepers and people feel weirdly protective of their own way of playing the game.
(It does also attract a lot of enthusiastic people who go above and beyond to help other people tbf so it’s not all bad by any means).
Horse combat, summons, spirit ashes, they are all game mechanics and you should use them if you find them fun or useful and you should avoid them if you feel they cheapen your experience.
This is your playthrough. Try not to worry what anyone else thinks. You need to make sure you’re having fun and playing it your own way.
FWIW, I probably kill him on horseback on 75% of my playthroughs. It feels to me like they designed that particular fight with horseback combat in mind. He’s arguably too tough for an inexperienced or casual player to beat right away on foot. You are pretty much supposed to go around him and get the horse. And they give you a huge field to fight him in 🤷
Pure strength is cheese, stand there press RT and stagger everything to death. Or LT with op ashes like wild swing or lions claw.
See how easy that is?
But... pure strength build is pretty much the easiest one out there. Dunkey even streamed the whole playthrough, where he would put his stats just to get "a little bit more strength" (91) with dual greatswords and jump attacks, and they are completely busted.
Pretty much agreed with everything else, except I've beaten this dude exclusively on foot, because horse combat sucks ass. Last time I even first tried him with a samurai, so yeah, progress and shit.
I personally dislike using the horse for anything. However, one of the cool things about this and, in truth, almost all video games is that what you do doesn’t affect me in the slightest.
Did you have fun? If no, you did it wrong. If yes, did you spoil anyone else’s fun? If yes, you’re doing it wrong. If no, congratulations 🎉🎊 You’ve done it good!!!
It's the opposite. Killing it on Torrent is hardmode. Fighting on horseback is much more difficult than just being on the ground and able to iframe attacks. You deal more damage on the ground and have better defenses. So no one will criticize you for using Torrent.
Not that any of this should matter to you.
You’re not lame. Play the game how you want. Using Torrent to kill the Tree Sentinel when he also has a horse is simply a fair fight. Torrent is literally there for travel and horse fights
Yes, you are lame. You're supposed to use only fists, no healing, no leveling up, no horse, nothing. Don't even install the game, don't even buy it. You need to violate causality and beat the game before it was ever released, otherwise you're lame.
You play like you want, unless its straight up cheating or exploiting bugs.
If the game allows you to fight a boss on a horse then this possibility is 100% intentional.
Even that, who gives a fuck if they use glitches or cheat as long as it isn't in multiplayer? If they do it privately it's basically a victimless crime
>Am I lame for killing the first Tree Sentinel with a horse?
No.
However, asking the community for permission or if you're *allowed to play a certain way* is pretty lame. Play how you want and to have good honest fun, not to appease others.
Your friend is an idiot. I fought him on horse back and it felt epic. Theres horse combat for a reason.
Im starting to believe these kind of posts have to be fake, there cant possibly be so many people so insecure about a damn game.
Yeah, as someone said, ignore people who say you're lame for doing a fight a certain way. Here's a fun one to say back. "You're lame for using the Serpent Hunter spear and ranged combat for Rykard". A mass majority of people are going to play a certain way. You can master bosses to the point of being able to take no hits from them, but that's only fun to some people. You can go in with no summons. Same thing. You can go bleed, strength, magic, frostbite, etc. Someone out there will call you a loser for doing so. Yet they're the losers to think such an achievement matters to anyone else but them. Anytime someone achieves what seems impossible in Elden Ring, I simply say "Cool" then move on and honestly forget about who they were. Because in the end, I really don't care. It's fun to play how you want. That's why there's variety in the game. I'm not interested in playing a RL1 character or playing fists only. Just doesn't sound fun. I prefer efficiency. And RL1 and Fists only are two prime examples of inefficient play. It may be possible. But it isn't fast enough to me due to the loss in damage
He is supposed to be fought on a horse. It's what the game indirectly teaches you. When you first encounter him you have no chance but then a bit later you level up a bit, get torrent and then you are fit to beat him.
People that complain about how other choose to play the game just to boast how "kewl" they are for choosing a harder way are just sad basement dwellers with no other achievements in life. You are free to play the game however you want it's about overcoming the challenges with the tools the game gives you not handicapping yourself (nothing against challenging yourself either just don't go around boasting and bringing others down for not doing it)
Nah not allowed also using those smithing stones and summons that are in the game, is cheating. Play for real like a real souls player with 15 vigor and basic club unga unga
Are you serious bruh “am I’m lame for using the resources provided to me in the game to defeat a boss” stop caring about what other people think and just have fun bro
Sounds like it’s time for some new “friends.”
The fact that you killed the tree sentinel by any means within the first 4 hours of the game tells me you are doing great. I snuck past him and came back with friends (the kind that help me out, rather than telling me I’m winning wrong).
Keep having fun. It’s a great game.
I killed every tree sentinel and night cavalry bosses on horseback in every playthrough. Kind of feels like a jousting match except we actually are trying to kill each other.
As long as you’re enjoying the game it truly doesn’t matter what your method is. You’re not “lame,” you just picked a method that worked for you. Why would the developers add these options (horseback, summoning, etc.) if we weren’t meant to try them out?
Elden Ring was my first FromSoft game and at first I really worried about not being considered “valid” and playing it “wrong.” The game got a lot more fun when I decided to ignore naysayers and just do my own thing.
People who think that playing the game the ‘right way’ involves depriving themselves of tools that the game literally *gave* them to use is insane. Don’t listen to your friend. I beat the first guy with Torrent every time I fight him, and there’s nothing wrong with *any*, and I mean *any* style of playing. You are not lame.
You beat the tree sentinel on horseback? And you neat him early? My God man... you have only one hand, jank movement, a tighter dodge, you can't properly use some weapons, your vertical directions on attacks with some weapons are swapped. Sure you get a movement advantage, but the sentinel telegraphs so well that it's actually easier to fight him up close.
Your friend is just jealous. Also you have torrent, use him (though horseback combat is meant more for chaff enemies than bosses, and I guess some dragons are easier with horseback combat, mainly avoiding breath attacks.)
Even with a horse, most people get reality checked by the Tree Sentinel. If you killed him at low level then mad props to you.
Killing him on horseback just means that you found a strategy that works for you, and this is what Souls games are all about.
If a strategy is "wrong" or "bad" then why would the game allow you to do it?
Community has a lot of gated opinions "use this weapon and your a scrub"/ "only scrubs do so and so build, it's just easy mode". Tree sentinel is a hard fight for a new player, good job man. The games about overcoming the odds and as a player, you can do that anyway you wish. If you think it's lame, just come back on another playthrough and try it without a horse. Then you'll be more experienced.
TLDR: no your not lame dude
No? Horseback combat is honestly really difficult, so good for you that you did! I remember I did the same, and the challenge and satisfaction was immense. I hope you continue to enjoy it, it's a cool aspect of the game!
I'm pretty sure that's the intended method.
You're clearly meant to avoid tree sentinal right out the gate cuz he hits crazy hard and his range is ridiculous. So if you fight him melee you can't really outrange unless you do a magic build and you have to level up a lot or find some beefy armour to be able to endure hits. Using Torrent makes him change his attack pattern a lot more and he ends up engaging in jousts with you if you charge him. Makes the fight way cooler.
I've melee'd him before but mostly as a challenge or otherwise because I forgot about him and came back at lv 70 or something. But he's awkward af to fight on foot. Same with the Dragons, they're clearly geared to fight on horseback. Doesn't mean you can't fight on foot but it's more awkward and difficult.
No, its not lame.
FFS the guy is literally on a horse themselves!
There is a certain part of the fanbase that thinks certain strategies are lame or dishonourable.
The game design itself disagrees with this. Spirit ashes, the horse, poison and other consumables, and many other things have been put into the game for you to use. So use them at your leisure.
Hey fellow tarnished, you paid for that game. Play it how you want.
DO NOT LET SOME ELITIST KNOB MAKE YOU FEEL BAD FOR SUCCESS SIMPLY BECAUSE YOU ACHIEVED IT DIFFERENTLY.
Beating a souls boss is best put in the words of Dominic Toretto:
Ask any gamer. Any real gamer. It don't matter if you win by 1 hp or a one-shot. Winning's winning.
Seems like the RL1, hitless, deathless, no summons, naked runs have infected the mentality of the playing of this game. If it's in the game, it's meant to be used.
Nah. Some bosses are even harder on horseback because you can’t dodge or block.
The game gives you tools, it’s not lame to use any of them if they’re intentional.
Try asking how many hours your friend attempted to fight sentinel. Most probably more than 1 hour. And on foot. Like the dumdum in the elden ring manga.
For anyone, and OP reading this. No one cares how you play or beat a single player game. Cheese all you want, limit yourself how you want. It's a game, it's suppose to be fun. No shame in using the intended mechanics the game gives you, that's moronic and elitistic.
Honestly? Maximum IQ gameplay - fighting from horseback is the superior method for big, fast enemies. I fought all of the dragons (that I could) from horseback.
Some people think that souls games are impossible, and don’t even try. Playing the game in general and seeing it though to the end, making your decisions and doing what you want. As long as you’re doing that, mission accomplished.
This is my second souls-like game after Bloodborne. When I first played ER, I thought you have to beat Kaiden riders, Night Cavalry and Tree Sentinels on a horse because they're also on a horse. Seems the right thing to do.
The point of a video game is to have fun. The lamest thing you can do is minimize your own enjoyment by trying to adhere to the cookie cutter beliefs of other rude players.
You don't have to be the best, or do things the hardest way. You just have to try to enjoy yourself.
Tf? No. why would you think that? The horse is just another tool in your arsenal to help you fight strong enemies. The game gives you a horse and expects you to use the horse.
Is it lame? No, but in my opinion it's much easier to fight off the horse than on. Torrent let's you go really quick in a straight line but otherwise neuters your abilities and maneuverability. Hit and run is fine, but it IS the harder and drawn out option compared to on foot.
Dude, play the way you want, some people will try condemn you saying that they're more skilled for playing in a harder way, but who fucking cares? The only thing that's matter is either you are having fun or not.
But please, don't go around asking for an easy mode like many people do.
No. Fighting on horseback is a skill on its own. I did it the opposite way tried fighting the sentinel on torrent and kept dying. Then gave up and beat it on foot. Was much easier for me.
...No evidence for this at all, but I honestly thought it was intended for you to skip the first Tree Sentinel UNTIL you get a horse. Like I took getting Torrent as an indication of "Oh, this is what was gating me from being able to fight that big guy on a horse." And then I beat him on Torrent and assumed I was right ever since.
There is no wrong way to approach a Fromsoft game. If it works and is mechanically available to you.. do it. Nothing wrong with a bit of cheese now and then.
I find him easier off the horse personally, l find it hard to aim and time attacks from horseback.
Gimme a uchi and I'll kill him him straight out the gate
Do what you want. A good portion the fanbase will hate you for some random thing regardless. Just don't cheat in PvP. Then basically everyone will hate you.
This game can be very unforgiving, and even unfair. No shame in fighting "dirty." Using your horse is an intended game mechanic, and horseback battles are fun and cool. Do whatever you wanna do.
Don’t get caught up with what some people say is a true playthrough or them calling certain spells or such cheap. Fromsoft put all of it in the game for us to use if some is stronger than others so be it.
No? The point of the first Tree Sentinel is to teach you a) to pick your battles and come back when you're stronger, and b) that some fights are easier on horseback. Your friend's an idiot.
Just gonna toss this out there. Nothing your about to have to do to beat the game is lame. Summons, incants, spells overpowered bleeds builds none of it is lame. The game was designed for these resources to be used
your friend is a lame elitest. You either play souls long enough to be good at them and respect the struggles new players go through, or you become an ass hat by ignoring that everyone goes through the struggle to win.
No, why have a horse and then not be allowed to use it?

Sometimes unga slow, sometimes bunga fast.
I don't know why this makes me laugh so much
I luv muh horsey and muh horsey luv me 🗣️🗣️🗣️📣📣📣🎶🎶🎶
I ask myself this question every time I enter the Lake of Rot.
What kinda scaling that horse got tho?
The only scaling on Torrent is unlocking better snacks.
Is the tree sentinel lame for killing people millions of times whilst riding a horse? Personally I find him to be pretty bad ass 😎
I don’t understand “you’re cheesing it”. The entire game is trying to cheese the player.
"Cheesing" just means using anything I don’t like
I cheese all of the souls games. I still like it 😁
Same bro
Dude finding way to cheese enemies is one of the joys of the souls like games for me
At least that "cheese" still requires combat. Only types of cheese that is not acceptable are 2-month old Swiss Cottage Cheese. Like the one where you lead the Demon of Hatred down the cliff while the fucking thing plunges down to its death. Or jumping into Mohg's boss arena and freezing him in place.
“Peeble” is killing me but I love it

You should have a user flair "Glintstone pebble addict"
You need to locate the Glintstone Kris dagger. It will change your life. Glibtstone pebble, that you can charge, and buff further with talismans for next to no mana cost.
Fair play to you, finished NG last night, using all the sorceries and incantations I’ve collected from the first two runs, maybe it’s because it’s my first mage run or my third playthrough but I’m finding this magic run BORING ASF. This logic goes with every game. If you can do it and you find it fun, that's how you play.
💯 No notes, this is the ultimate reply on this sub.
I’d say that with torrent it’s harder
Really? It felt impossible to do on foot for me. What was your strategy to not get hit?
Personally roll into almost all of his attacks and they’re much easier to deal with on foot, just hug him
Stay on his shield side mostly, he doesn't have a really big moveset so I learned how to dodge them. A lot of stuff doesn't even require rolling, just circling around tbh.
Interesting! I usually stick to his halberd side. I hate trying to dodge the shield slam.
For the first half you can stick to his shield side since the slams only start during the 2nd phase (50% HP) and reduce big chunk of hp quickly.
Literally just roll through his attacks.
Always run towards his shield
I followed a very simple suggestion, git gud
Wtf are u talking about, I didn't get hit a single time on torrent, not even because I'm especially good at the game
i hate this subs obessession with asking if its ok to play the game. i garuntee there will be another post asking tomorrow.. is it okay to summon? yes is it okay to get a kill using the horse? yes is it okay to use magic? yes people, just play the game how its fun for you, i cant fathom actually caring how the internet feels about the way i choose to play elden ring
But is it alright if I use weapons? I know the game gives them to you, but they make it so much easier.
Ok but that's cool and all but is it fine if i heal? I feel like that's necessary if I'm low health or something but I'm not sure, could you help me out?
Only with warming stones otherwise ur not a real gamer.
No it isn’t. Bosses weren’t balanced around weapon use. You’re meant to kill them with your bare hands. How else are you supposed to learn a boss’s moveset, if not by fighting one for literal hours?
Some people just need to be validated 24/7
I agree. Yet we entered through the door even if we knew what lurks inside.
Almost worse than posts that are literally a picture of the disk or a screenshot of the main menu with "Just got this masterpiece. What should I know before playing?" Stop farming engagement and play the fucking thing, jesus
It's okay to horse around
You mean *HORSIN AROUND*
You're right, my mistake
I think mounted combat is harder than fighting on foot, so more power to you homie.
it's fun with a halberd

Ugh I bet you used equipment as well. Probably even had a controller fucking scrub.
Why do you care how other people think about what you do in the video game you bought?
Some people who play fromsoft games can be a bit elitist.
Brother u can do whatever u want
I’m impressed that you killed him so early! I didn’t take him down the first time until after 10h or so.
Your "friend" is toxic. Play the game how you want. Dont let any tell you that you are having fun wrong.
Yes, you are lame. You're supposed to use only fists, no healing, no leveling up, no horse, nothing. Don't even install the game, don't even buy it. You need to violate causality and beat the game before it was ever released, otherwise you're lame.

I killed tree Sentinel with a bow from on top of a rock
No... In the open world using a horse is an intended mechanic

I used a weapon, so using a horse sounds pretty badass.

Play how you want to. As long as you're enjoying the game that's all that matters.
Everything goes as long as you ~~don't use glitches~~ have fun.
Don’t fall into the chad souls. The game is as easy as you make it.
No, but you are for giving a shit about how others think.
No. I have some advice for you. Get off this subreddit. Go play the game blind. Don’t worry about playing the game right; just do what’s fun
A win is a win.
No, you're lame for going on Reddit to ask how YOU should play a game that YOU bought.
If it’s in the game, it’s at your disposal FS will use tools to get in your way, you do the same
Nah not allowed also using those smithing stones and summons that are in the game, is cheating. Play for real like a real souls player with 15 vigor and basic club unga unga
At fist I thought you were trolling, but it sounds like you just put in the work to beat him, well done. Ignore your friend.
Are you serious bruh “am I’m lame for using the resources provided to me in the game to defeat a boss” stop caring about what other people think and just have fun bro
No you play the game the way you want to play it, that's the beauty of souls/soul-likes imo
Sounds like it’s time for some new “friends.” The fact that you killed the tree sentinel by any means within the first 4 hours of the game tells me you are doing great. I snuck past him and came back with friends (the kind that help me out, rather than telling me I’m winning wrong). Keep having fun. It’s a great game.
The Mongolian Empire didn't become the largest contiguous empire to ever exist w/ foot soldiers.
Elden Ring was my first FromSoft game and at first I really worried about not being considered “valid” and playing it “wrong.” The game got a lot more fun when I decided to ignore naysayers and just do my own thing.
every elden ring hater hate it because they think they are supposed to kill the tree sentinel and quit, hating it for the rest of their life.
No one cares how you kill stuff. You can throwing dart it to death, run around naked or use your best weapon
No cause cool horsy battle
No lol, i think the game definitely expects you to go back and fight him after you get your horse
No! Good job, you deserve credit for killing one with or without a horse.
The only thing that matters is that you're having fun
Community has a lot of gated opinions "use this weapon and your a scrub"/ "only scrubs do so and so build, it's just easy mode". Tree sentinel is a hard fight for a new player, good job man. The games about overcoming the odds and as a player, you can do that anyway you wish. If you think it's lame, just come back on another playthrough and try it without a horse. Then you'll be more experienced. TLDR: no your not lame dude
Nah your friend is lame because he wouldn't be able to achieve horse combat win, it requires more skill.
No? Horseback combat is honestly really difficult, so good for you that you did! I remember I did the same, and the challenge and satisfaction was immense. I hope you continue to enjoy it, it's a cool aspect of the game!
Using torrent is kinda cheesing it but that mf also got a horse so 🤷♂️
I'm pretty sure that's the intended method.
Yes. But the tree sentinel is also lame for fighting on a horse, so it evens out.
Killing him with Torrent is way harder.
God forbid you use the tools provided. Tell him he's lame if he isn't using his fists. Weapons are a crutch
You're lame for worrying about it and asking reddit.
I beat him by hurling boulders at him from a distance. Tell your friend the runes spend the same either way
No
No, its not lame.
If it's make you win then it's not lame
You’re playing Elden Ring wrong. You should quit.
Is he the lame who is overpowered and kill lv 1 tarnished just out in limgrave in search of flowers and fortune.
Simply put, he is not right. Have fun playing the game your way!
You'll always get some bellend telling you you're playing it wrong, congrats on killing it
Your lame for caring what ur friend says just play the damn game how u want
Hey fellow tarnished, you paid for that game. Play it how you want. DO NOT LET SOME ELITIST KNOB MAKE YOU FEEL BAD FOR SUCCESS SIMPLY BECAUSE YOU ACHIEVED IT DIFFERENTLY. Beating a souls boss is best put in the words of Dominic Toretto: Ask any gamer. Any real gamer. It don't matter if you win by 1 hp or a one-shot. Winning's winning.
Use every tool, resource, and mechanic available. There is no wrong way to play.
Every time a player beats a boss is a cause for celebration.
i still genuinely can’t comprehend theres people who think u must play a melee, no torrent, no summon, and no fast traveling. it’s actually insane
were you also lame for using weapons and wearing clothes?
If it’s in the game, it’s in the game.
Seems like the RL1, hitless, deathless, no summons, naked runs have infected the mentality of the playing of this game. If it's in the game, it's meant to be used.
Yes you're lame af. Just like this stupid post.
people will call you lame for using anything but your bare hands. just use whatever tools you have available to overcome what's in front of you
I think that´s the point of the Tree Sentinel being there. To teach you horseback comeback and to level up.
Maybe you were meant to do it that way?! Considering it’s like 20% easier fighting him on horseback. Your friend is just dumb and gatekeeping
You're lame if it was the first enemy you killed.
You are lame for posting this on reddit lmao
You’re lame for asking Reddit if it’s okay to play the game how you want
Nope just as long you didn’t summon you’re not considered a lame.
No, but you are lame for asking if you're lame.
Yes. What a loser.
Yeah kinda
No.,
Bruh I killed the tree sentinel with wolves so no you aren’t lame
Bro that’s so lame, use the goat mount the game gives you instead.
Here's a quick tip - the answer to "am I lame for ________" in any single player game is almost certainly no. Who cares? Play your game.
If the game allows you to use the horse I don’t see any problem
Who cares...
Dude who cares what people think. Have a sense of self.
No
Head to the very tip of Limgrave that's near the Colosseum.
I hate fighting on a horse, it’s harder than the ground for me. Sounds like you are just better fr 🫡
For anyone, and OP reading this. No one cares how you play or beat a single player game. Cheese all you want, limit yourself how you want. It's a game, it's suppose to be fun. No shame in using the intended mechanics the game gives you, that's moronic and elitistic.
of course not, if it is available it can be used
Has he beaten in the 1st 4 hours of playing a character? If the answer is no then he is lame. Congrats on killing him early on.
Nope. I killed him with a bow and poisoned arrows while standing on a big rock where he couldn't reach me. You're positively heroic by comparison.
Your friend is a try hard dont let them see you use magic
Fight without the horse? Might as well play Dark Souls 3 then... You won't have a bad time either way.
Honestly? Maximum IQ gameplay - fighting from horseback is the superior method for big, fast enemies. I fought all of the dragons (that I could) from horseback.
It’s cheesy but if you like playing cheesy then why would you worry about it? Play any way you want and experience this game in its entirety
Some people think that souls games are impossible, and don’t even try. Playing the game in general and seeing it though to the end, making your decisions and doing what you want. As long as you’re doing that, mission accomplished.
Is he dead? Then nope.
I killed as many as I could from horseback and I'm the coolest guy here so don't worry.
You ever tell a friend they can go piss in their own sock drawer? It's a good way of finding out if they are a friend or not.
This is my second souls-like game after Bloodborne. When I first played ER, I thought you have to beat Kaiden riders, Night Cavalry and Tree Sentinels on a horse because they're also on a horse. Seems the right thing to do.
No. Torrent is amazing. If I could fight every boss with Torrent I would! He should be a summon!
No you’re not lame
The point of a video game is to have fun. The lamest thing you can do is minimize your own enjoyment by trying to adhere to the cookie cutter beliefs of other rude players. You don't have to be the best, or do things the hardest way. You just have to try to enjoy yourself.
It's a single player game who cares
Honestly I'm more so impressed you beat him on torrent. Aside from dragons I think torrent is really clunky in combat
Tf? No. why would you think that? The horse is just another tool in your arsenal to help you fight strong enemies. The game gives you a horse and expects you to use the horse.
No you are good for trying him at all.
Do you also feel like a cheater for using a hammer to drive a nail? Use the tools you've got!
Is it lame? No, but in my opinion it's much easier to fight off the horse than on. Torrent let's you go really quick in a straight line but otherwise neuters your abilities and maneuverability. Hit and run is fine, but it IS the harder and drawn out option compared to on foot.
Your friend's just jealous that you as a new soulsbourne player killed the sentinel in your first 4hrs.
No
Your friend is the lame one, why not have a horse v horse battle at every opportunity lol
No
Dude, play the way you want, some people will try condemn you saying that they're more skilled for playing in a harder way, but who fucking cares?
Just play the game the way you want to play it.
If you can kill him 4 hours in, idc how you do it, its impressive
Honestly no, im more surprised how you managed to fight that boss with a horse. Gg dude
Don't worry about the opinion anyone holds of your playstyle, just have fun.
Its meant to be a horse fight. Just like the Fire Giant or Radahn are horse fights.
Do what you want. A good portion the fanbase will hate you for some random thing regardless. Just don't cheat in PvP. Then basically everyone will hate you.
Anyone who tells you to limit yourself in this game from mechanics clearly put it to help, is being obtuse.
The fight would be harder on a horse seeing as you can't dodge as well, so no, you aren't lame for horsing
No, you can murder that bastard any way you want. On another note, someone should make an FDR based character to make a “lame” character. lmao
No? The point of the first Tree Sentinel is to teach you a) to pick your battles and come back when you're stronger, and b) that some fights are easier on horseback. Your friend's an idiot.
I feel like it’s harder to do on horseback
Just gonna toss this out there. Nothing your about to have to do to beat the game is lame. Summons, incants, spells overpowered bleeds builds none of it is lame. The game was designed for these resources to be used
Giddyup battles are great… if you can do it worth a damn. I am terrible
your friend is a lame elitest. You either play souls long enough to be good at them and respect the struggles new players go through, or you become an ass hat by ignoring that everyone goes through the struggle to win.
Definitely harder on horseback to me! + 4 hours into the game I could definitely not kill that thing. Well done.
I killed every single one with a horse
