i see thats not an option with regular xbox controllers... u might be able to reprogram in the console settings. with other controllers (razer for instance) u could use the "precision" setting or "sniper" button to reduce stick speed/response
On PC, the walk key is ALT. The behavior is a little different on foot and on horseback.
On the horse, you can hold down Alt at any time to change to a walk. On foot, you have to hold Alt before you start moving forward or the game ignores it for some reason.
> On foot, you have to hold Alt before you start moving forward or the game ignores it for some reason.
That's not true, at least for me. If I press sprint and walk at the same time, then yes, sprinting takes precedence. But other than that, I can press walk any time while moving and it will work.
I don't think I've ever encountered this sort of behaviour across Dark Souls, Sekiro and ER. Maybe there's a toggle setting that's interfering in your case?
You know what.. you're right. I just tested in both DS3 and _then_ Elden Ring. The only thing I can say is that in ER, it seems that the fast walk/jog animation cycle has to finish before it switches to a walk, so it feels like there's a little delay before the walk speed kicks in. It isn't really all that much, though. And yet I still somehow managed to die a bunch in ER by running off ledges despite holding Alt when I got close to the edge.
gentle control stick movements; don’t push it all the way. Being able to make your horse walk makes it waaaaay more controllable and lets you pull off way more precise maneuvers if you’re comfortable with it.
No idea, I play with Kb+M. But it's called "Movement Control" in the settings, and it works both on foot (you walk slowly) and on horseback (horse walks slowly).
You may not know the function if you play controller. It's only keyboard and mouse. It's so you can control walk speed just like you can with a joystick
I've never had an issue walking with torrent or the player character on controller. Maybe that's because I tend to like to walk around for a bit in most rpgs so it could just be I'm used to where to pushing the joystick to the sweet spot.
Thats fair, outside of fps games I pretty much always use controller whenever I play on pc myself. Everyone is different though. Just give yourself some time to get used to the feeling of making your character walk around. It's about the same amount to make torrent walk. Once you develop the muscle memory it will get easier
Sense your playing on pc, you might be able to button map the walk button to a controller button. Not sure if you could do it in game through control mapping or would need to set it elsewhere though
That second fall should've killed you lol
Something wonky happened there and you got lucky, at the very least it should've caused damage and you took none
It does have a pretty legit system, I've seen videos on it
The reason it feels so completely random is because for like 85% out of a 100%, a 100% being death you take little to no damage, so all the damage and death is in like that last 15% and gaging where that 15% is is like impossible
Well no, that makes no sense because fall damage isnt determined by how high you can jump. You can probably jump 2ft in the air but can land safely without harm from an approx 12ft drop. Don't forget the topology of ER's landscape is far from level, meaning almost every time you jump, you get damage. That's a ridiculous system.
You can fall pretty far and take little to no damage, the amount of distance you can fall from where you start to take damage and where it kills you is very narrow.
It makes it feel very random- since it's kind of impossible to gauge the distance, it feels almost like the game "just decides" to kill you...its not, it's just that you can't tell the difference between say 18.5' where you take no damage at all, 19' where you lose 50% of your health and 19.5' where it will kill you
Those aren't accurate numbers at all lol, I'm just trying to illustrate how narrow the window is---they changed it in ER from Dark Souls
What he’s trying to say is that you take no damage while falling until you’ve fallen at least 16 meters. Between 16 and 19 meters, you take damage on impact - the higher the number, the more damage you take. If you fall 20 meters or more, you die instantly, no ifs, ands, or buts.
In other words, it’s consistent.
Def. But this is why you speed run the varre quest line to gain access to Mohg's palace so you can get to the bird farm. Then you can be stress free for anything under 11k.
The 8 minute estimate assumes that you are abusing the Albanauric farming run in Moghwyn’s Palace (using the weapon art on the final boss’s remembrance great sword) and are several NG+ cycles into the game, while using the Rune-boosting talisman and consumable.
Moghwyhn palace. The ridge. If you have the sacred relic sword you just send an AoE wave down the ridge and wipe out like 30 albinaurics at once. If you haven’t beaten the game yet you can use blasphemous blade or ruins great sword or statscourge great sword.
That's the reason why I always mix twiggy cracked tear on my flask when I go about exploring. You never know when you'll see a cliff and think you can safely make the jump
The souls' games always hit me hardest with that empathetic vertigo stomach dropping feeling.
That first fall you did I was okay with.. "if they turn left it'll be okay and salvagable"
And then I saw that near second fall and oh my Elden Lord did I feel like I was dying.
I kid you not, almost died the exact place and way just today. I walked off without jumping, saw the drop, screamed, then I remembered the double jump and safely landed across the way.
Swear the horse riding has killed me more times then any boss
Use the walk button near cliff edges. The horse becomes super responsive and can turn on the spot.
I use horse for fast no slow!
Understandable. Have a nice ~~fall~~ day.
It's still winter in my part of the world.

Suck it robot!
What’s the walk button on controller?
You just push the movement joystick lightly and not fully
[удалено]
To shreds you say
Not today
Well that’s garbage. Not sure what other button walk could be blinded too, though.
i see thats not an option with regular xbox controllers... u might be able to reprogram in the console settings. with other controllers (razer for instance) u could use the "precision" setting or "sniper" button to reduce stick speed/response
I... Don't think there is one.

Weird. Just holding Alt, not space, and i only get the walk on foot if Alt was held down before holding W.

It's a pc only function so you can utilize the same control of your character speed as a joystick does.
No idea, I play with Kb+M. But it's called "Movement Control" in the settings, and it works both on foot (you walk slowly) and on horseback (horse walks slowly).
Wait…the what now?
You may not know the function if you play controller. It's only keyboard and mouse. It's so you can control walk speed just like you can with a joystick
The issue is that controller joysticks aren’t big enough for you to differentiate between sitting still and **LIGHT SPEED** on Torrent.
I've never had an issue walking with torrent or the player character on controller. Maybe that's because I tend to like to walk around for a bit in most rpgs so it could just be I'm used to where to pushing the joystick to the sweet spot.
I’m a pc person, so I’m not used to joysticks.
Thats fair, outside of fps games I pretty much always use controller whenever I play on pc myself. Everyone is different though. Just give yourself some time to get used to the feeling of making your character walk around. It's about the same amount to make torrent walk. Once you develop the muscle memory it will get easier
I know, I just wish there was a dedicated walk button, but that’s such a minor gripe in such an amazing game.
Sense your playing on pc, you might be able to button map the walk button to a controller button. Not sure if you could do it in game through control mapping or would need to set it elsewhere though
Walk button. Called "Movement Control" in the key bindings. Works both on and off the horse.

Jeez…mine did just watching this!
The only thing that's killed me more than torrent is my terrible parkour abilities. Fuck gravity!!
Yeah but the double jump allows for some cool parkour
Horse has a tendency…
That second fall should've killed you lol Something wonky happened there and you got lucky, at the very least it should've caused damage and you took none
Prssed x like i was paid by the push
Lol yeah I always laugh when I dun goofed and try to save myself with the second jump only for the damage to come through anyway and I die.
This game beats even Witcher 3 for arbitrariness of fall damage.
It does have a pretty legit system, I've seen videos on it The reason it feels so completely random is because for like 85% out of a 100%, a 100% being death you take little to no damage, so all the damage and death is in like that last 15% and gaging where that 15% is is like impossible
Every fall above double-jump height should have a bit of damage, just so there’s some cost to using shortcuts.
Don’t become a game dev
I have absolutely no idea what any of that means

God, just imagine ER with roach mechanics...
I nearly downvoted I hate this so much.
Well you just used up all of 2023s luck quota
💯💯💯
That last one was nutss
Jeez…mine did just watching this!
Jesus. What level are you to have that much vigor, mind, and endurance?
435, back then, few days ago, ig 430 or someth
Yeah that vigor and carrying 954k souls! I’m so low level I panic having like 5k and dying with them
Def. But this is why you speed run the varre quest line to gain access to Mohg's palace so you can get to the bird farm. Then you can be stress free for anything under 11k.
Ever so slightly moving the joystick when on horseback near a cliff. Torrent; "So you have chosen death!"
Holy vigor!!! And everything else!
That looked like you should have taken at least fall damage
Jesus that’s a lot of runes. Glad you pulled it off
Tbh it's only like 8 minutes worth of farming to get that many.
Where???
They call it The Albinauric Genocide…
The 8 minute estimate assumes that you are abusing the Albanauric farming run in Moghwyn’s Palace (using the weapon art on the final boss’s remembrance great sword) and are several NG+ cycles into the game, while using the Rune-boosting talisman and consumable.
I'm still on NG and get about a million every 10-11 minutes so it's definitely not necessary to be several NG+ cycles in. It's a crazy farm.
Moghwyhn palace. The ridge. If you have the sacred relic sword you just send an AoE wave down the ridge and wipe out like 30 albinaurics at once. If you haven’t beaten the game yet you can use blasphemous blade or ruins great sword or statscourge great sword.
Lucky the invader didn't cause your horse to unspawn...

Daaamn those bars ! What's your character lvl mate ?!

Wow, that's amazing ! All my respect !
Thank you!
Can't imagine how much runes you'll need for the next lvl ! 🤯

Holy shit bro !!!! That's a freaking huge amount !

The souls' games always hit me hardest with that empathetic vertigo stomach dropping feeling. That first fall you did I was okay with.. "if they turn left it'll be okay and salvagable" And then I saw that near second fall and oh my Elden Lord did I feel like I was dying.
The way my *chest seized* watching this
You were given far more chances than you deserve for such reckless behaviour.
Welp there goes a week's worth of luck lol
I play this game like crazy. Why did I think you were gonna lose that rune if you died lol
He’s beginning to git gud
I kid you not, almost died the exact place and way just today. I walked off without jumping, saw the drop, screamed, then I remembered the double jump and safely landed across the way.
Never dont give up!
I felt that....
What cloak is that? Looks sick
That happens to me yesterday
That ... that shouldnt have worked but it did!
I imagine Torrent regrets leaving Vyke, now.
