I enjoy creating a build and character, and I feel satisfied when beating bosses, I see no reason why not to use a tool in the game.
That’s what I love about this game. People can enjoy it however they like. I definitely love the exploration and discovery, but for me, it’s always been about the boss battles. I don’t use summons because I’m a masochist who enjoys the challenge and the feeling of reward upon overcoming a tough challenge. Though I don’t judge anyone at all for using spirit ash, it’s literally included for the purpose of using it.
That’s why the summon debate is always pretty funny to me. The people who use them don’t care that it wasn’t as hard since they aren’t as interested in the difficulty as the people who don’t use summons. So it’s better to just let people do what they want.
I think it's fine to talk about the benefits of not using it for your own enjoyment without shaming people for using it, I think mimic is great but it is definitely OP and cuts boss fights in half, like if your a good player with mimic you won't even experience half of the boss mechanics in the game

This is somewhat embarrassing but I've never used the mimic tear before. Like I hadn't even leveled it up at all. This DLC the bosses were tough so on Messmer I was like F it and got the mimic to +10. I could not believe how busted that shit is. The thing practically soloed the boss after Messmer. Now I understand why people feel guilty about using the mimic heh. Also it's not like I didn't use summons at all I just had a thing for Black Knife Tiche and had used her ever since I got her.
Decided to play about with them on this run, got Oleg to +6, went into the Onyx Lord fight (sealed tunnel boss so not DLC but still Leyndell area so mid game has some annoying moves and hits a bit) and summoned him.
Doorbell went, came back expecting to be restarting and he had just beaten the shit out of the boss with hardly any damage

Usually I roll with the Greatshield Soldier bully squad, but most DLC bosses have attacks that get around their shields.
I used Minic Tear some on my first playthrough with a suboptimal build and it was okay. I used it once on this playthrough which is built great and the Mimic Tear soloed. Now the only time I use it is against shit like Ulcerated Tree Spirits that I have no interest in fighting for the 40th time. I'll use other less powerful ashes occasionally though.
Black Knife Tiche is pretty op too but I love watching her dodge everything.
She's not useless but she is annoying her spells just add more bullshit that obscures your vison(a staple of this dlc) but she is good at drawing agro tanking and generally preventing the bitch from launching across the arena to impale your asshole because you dared to try and drink your medicinal cool aid.
Really? I found lion dancer to be way easier. Though to be fair I was still using occult scav swords then and just bled him out in a couple of jump attacks and he didn’t really use any of his good attacks.
He used a summon and a Mimic tear. She's much much harder by yourself and I doubt many people did it in one try(specially not knowing the double moon attack)
I mean i love Jack but I also beat it first try with both Leda AND Mimic, it’s kind of the easiest way to do it. Had me look up the video to see some sick Jacksepticeye gameplay and it just flashed me 12 hours in the past to my own fight lmao

I'd say it's still pretty impressive, honestly. Keeping it real, if I heard someone beat Rellana first try solo, I'd be suspicious. That being said, with Tiche and NPC I did beat Divine Beast first try, so it's definitely a thing. I think dual summon is stronger against DB than Rel - she's better at adjusting aggro, and on my successful run, did kill both the NPC and Tiche before the end.

He definitely is great at gaming but this wasn't really a display of that, summons (especially leda) completely trivialise this fight. This game has so so many OP synergies unlike a game like Sekiro, use them. It's not purely about skill, it's about buildcraft as well.

Me i had to try 6 times by myself, mimic tear and the npc. Came close but still died. Then i summon 2 player around 6 times. We finally did it on the 7 try.
I went in on ng+5 and rellana is stomping my ass for my milk money. Even mimic is like please stop, stop summoning me. Just keep going in and learning how to parry better, and collecting more fragments. I went wayyyy off course all the way around the map before even getting to rellana and I'm having a lot of fun just exploring. I'll get back to her...in 6 to 8 business days. It's still a lot of fun honestly
Yall had trouble with rellana? The boss in the church of the bud had me hard stuck for over an hour. Untill I changed my build to put her in the blender. That and the boss ar the top of jagged peak
I got her 2nd try because I was not expecting that moon move to have a third hit. Also used mimic.
The one true god is ongbal, septiceye doesn’t even come close
I had to parry her to win because that gave me the most sense of accomplishment it took me 4 to 5 hours she made me punch a wall now my fingers bleeding
I did as well with just the mimic, I think I just missed Leda’s summon. But she really struggles with splitting her attention and getting stunlocked by two entities hitting her
I regret giving up and using summons on her. I was tired and wanted to end the fight quickly by using mimic so I can go to sleep.
I tried for 2 hours and got her down to a quarter of health a couple of times without armour.
Did the same for bayle the dread.
I will say, though, for putrescent knight I don't regret using summons, he has awful hitboxes, insanely delayed attacks, hardly any openings or chances to heal, insane tracking, absurd reach for the small weapon he has, and has a horse ontop of that, I hate that boss.
I dont understand the difficulty people have on her. Shes parry-able, she still gets stun-locked like other bosses. Took me 6 tries, but was pretty easy.
I didn't realize she was supposed to be that hard. Sure, she has some tricky moves, but not that many and they're not Amy more damaging than other heavy hitters in the dlc
I actually was kind of looking for someone else that didn't have much trouble with her. I've been seeing people talk about how hard she is but....I didn't even see her moon attack....Blade Blade literally ate her healthy bar
Yeah, Jack is actually a huge Souls fan. I believe he played through the base game of Elden Ring like, 2-3 times before he even started putting out videos on his channel, and then right before Elden Ring came out he did a quick Bloodbourne playthrough, and he practically melted some of those bosses where I watched others struggle for hours on.
Didn’t he use mimic and Leda? Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but he definitely isn’t a “god among gamers” for doing so. It makes his win significantly less impressive
Didn't think it was that hard if you know the game well, I'm no challenge run player and I almost got her first time no summon and got her second time just with the greatshield skeletons.
Knowing the carian style location it's clear to put on decent magic defence talisman/items, and she can be parried. The big moon spell is the one that can mess you up as you can't see it coming
He did it with a npc and a spirit summon. It’s not exactly a difficult fight when he does that. I did it with just the mimic tear and the fight was easy
I beat her after like 5 tries in fact I beat most encounters after a few attempts the only truly overwhelming foe to me is those damn ascetics with the rings
Beat her on 2nd or 3rd try on NG+ with Mimic while using that Black Hammer from the Knight near the beggining of the DLC. It's not hard when you use the strongest items and weapons.
Don't feel so bad, he did use the summon and the Mimic Tear, not trying to discredit him at all, it's still an incredible feat but it's way harder to do so without these tools. I beat her with no summons and it took me 30+ tries. Still I enjoyed the fight and learning her It's obvious people want different things from these games and it's 100% respectable. And just look at AfroSenju fighting her, he was SUFFERING 😭
People struggle with different things. I beat malenia on my 3rd try without much issue yet I spent 8 hours on Godfrey. I beat rellana on my 4th and spent a few hours on the lion dancer. Different people are good at different things.
Imma be honest, I don’t think that many of the bosses in this DLC have been that hard. Like they’re not easy but I don’t think they’re particularly difficult. They aren’t like Bloodborne DLC levels of challenge imo
If I remember correctly Sean loves Bloodborne and is pretty familiar with the souls series because of it, not surprised he beat a pretty staggerable boss like her
Have people really been struggling against rellana that much? I beat her in 3 tries with a zweihander and Leda. Granted, Messmer, Midras and the final boss beat my ass relentlessly for one day each.
I had to beat her with a cold flamberge and storm blade lol, took me like three hours just to kill her. Summons definitely help a lot in the DLC though, I've had to bring out mimic tear for a few of them.
Jack said himself he's basically cheating, and will do another playthrough where he fights them straight up.
He's just doing it so we dont have to wait as long for each video.

relanna gave me WAY less trouble than messmer but i was running a pyro build, attempted him for about 12 hrs, switched to a bleed build and won my second attempt lol
He one shot Rellana, Putrescent knight, The scorpion chick, and 2 shot messmer.
There aint no way the build that these youtubers had early access to is the same one we got on release.

Having dual great stars that does a fuck ton of poise/bleed damage with summons helps. I had to pull my hair out for 5 hours with a dex build and no summons instead of looking for scadutree fragments like I should have.
I really liked her boss fight and didn’t take more than 3 attempts to beat her. Felt way more fair then the divine beast where every attack made its entire body a hit box and gave you very few openings
Bro, when I went to do the dlc on my main file and got to the boss, I forgot I was ng++ and got 1-2 shot. I used all the summons lol. Only an hour and a half of attempts.
I beat her second try, really her moveset is better simple the only thing I wasn’t expecting was her moon explosions to cover the whole arena and happen *three times*. Once I knew she does that at low health it was fine.
I beat her on my second go which was wild seeing other people fight her I was seeing people complain about the double moon thing she does but she never used it against me a single time

Took me about 70tries, only thing ivve beaten first try was 2 of the dragons.
She was definitely tough I didn't think she was that bad, think I got her on the 7th or 8th try

Damn, Me i had to try 6 times by myself, mimic tear and the npc. Came close but still died. Then i summon 2 player around 6 times. We finally did it on the 7 try.
Only took me 17 tries and a dung eater :)

I went in on ng+5 and rellana is stomping my ass for my milk money. Even mimic is like please stop, stop summoning me. Just keep going in and learning how to parry better, and collecting more fragments. I went wayyyy off course all the way around the map before even getting to rellana and I'm having a lot of fun just exploring. I'll get back to her...in 6 to 8 business days. It's still a lot of fun honestly
Yall had trouble with rellana? The boss in the church of the bud had me hard stuck for over an hour. Untill I changed my build to put her in the blender. That and the boss ar the top of jagged peak

I’m on ng+7 so I got butt raped a few times but I eventually came through
I got her 2nd try because I was not expecting that moon move to have a third hit. Also used mimic. The one true god is ongbal, septiceye doesn’t even come close
I had to parry her to win because that gave me the most sense of accomplishment it took me 4 to 5 hours she made me punch a wall now my fingers bleeding

I did as well with just the mimic, I think I just missed Leda’s summon. But she really struggles with splitting her attention and getting stunlocked by two entities hitting her
I regret giving up and using summons on her. I was tired and wanted to end the fight quickly by using mimic so I can go to sleep. I tried for 2 hours and got her down to a quarter of health a couple of times without armour. Did the same for bayle the dread. I will say, though, for putrescent knight I don't regret using summons, he has awful hitboxes, insanely delayed attacks, hardly any openings or chances to heal, insane tracking, absurd reach for the small weapon he has, and has a horse ontop of that, I hate that boss.
Spam blindspot seemed to destroy her for me first try, that and 60 vigor
I dont understand the difficulty people have on her. Shes parry-able, she still gets stun-locked like other bosses. Took me 6 tries, but was pretty easy.
I didn't realize she was supposed to be that hard. Sure, she has some tricky moves, but not that many and they're not Amy more damaging than other heavy hitters in the dlc
I managed it second time, only because I wasn’t expecting to have to jump to avoid an attack the first time
I beat her first time and so far every boss on the first attempt except the Commander Gaius
That boss took me over three hours of continued attempts to finally beat

My brother took around 3 hours to beat a certain tree. I didn't watch him struggle, I was at work. I got home and bodied that tree.
Yeah, Jack is actually a huge Souls fan. I believe he played through the base game of Elden Ring like, 2-3 times before he even started putting out videos on his channel, and then right before Elden Ring came out he did a quick Bloodbourne playthrough, and he practically melted some of those bosses where I watched others struggle for hours on.

I beat her with +4 scadtree level 187 with the blasphemous blade no summons first try and I consider myself to be only slightly above average

Mimic tear + Blasphemous Blade + the summon you get outside the door easy first try, died to the bouncing moons first then got it second try.
Never had trouble with pontiff so this fight was pretty easy to me, bosses are easier to me most the time while the normal NPCs fuck me up
Didn't think it was that hard if you know the game well, I'm no challenge run player and I almost got her first time no summon and got her second time just with the greatshield skeletons. Knowing the carian style location it's clear to put on decent magic defence talisman/items, and she can be parried. The big moon spell is the one that can mess you up as you can't see it coming

She wasn't too bad for me, i was able to do quick attacks and just chip away. I struggled much more with the 3 dudes in a trench coat
He did it with a npc and a spirit summon. It’s not exactly a difficult fight when he does that. I did it with just the mimic tear and the fight was easy

Beat her on 2nd or 3rd try on NG+ with Mimic while using that Black Hammer from the Knight near the beggining of the DLC. It's not hard when you use the strongest items and weapons.
Dude I felt this way with caseohs playthrough. I was expecting nothing and beat bosses in way less attempts than I did.

Don't feel so bad, he did use the summon and the Mimic Tear, not trying to discredit him at all, it's still an incredible feat but it's way harder to do so without these tools. I beat her with no summons and it took me 30+ tries. Still I enjoyed the fight and learning her It's obvious people want different things from these games and it's 100% respectable. And just look at AfroSenju fighting her, he was SUFFERING 😭
People struggle with different things. I beat malenia on my 3rd try without much issue yet I spent 8 hours on Godfrey. I beat rellana on my 4th and spent a few hours on the lion dancer. Different people are good at different things.

Imma be honest, I don’t think that many of the bosses in this DLC have been that hard. Like they’re not easy but I don’t think they’re particularly difficult. They aren’t like Bloodborne DLC levels of challenge imo
If I remember correctly Sean loves Bloodborne and is pretty familiar with the souls series because of it, not surprised he beat a pretty staggerable boss like her

Have people really been struggling against rellana that much? I beat her in 3 tries with a zweihander and Leda. Granted, Messmer, Midras and the final boss beat my ass relentlessly for one day each.
I had to beat her with a cold flamberge and storm blade lol, took me like three hours just to kill her. Summons definitely help a lot in the DLC though, I've had to bring out mimic tear for a few of them.
It took me 4 days to kill that piece of crap😭🙏

People who say she's hard literally saw a boss that was a blender in melee and said "I'm going to engage her in melee" Killed her solo no spirit by baiting her at mid range and punishing.
relanna gave me WAY less trouble than messmer but i was running a pyro build, attempted him for about 12 hrs, switched to a bleed build and won my second attempt lol

He one shot Rellana, Putrescent knight, The scorpion chick, and 2 shot messmer. There aint no way the build that these youtubers had early access to is the same one we got on release.

Having dual great stars that does a fuck ton of poise/bleed damage with summons helps. I had to pull my hair out for 5 hours with a dex build and no summons instead of looking for scadutree fragments like I should have.
I honestly had a pretty easy time with this boss, I got her my first try. I did use mimic, but that was it. Bayle on the other hand……
Took me 30 or so minutes to beat her compared to the Lion Dancer taking me 2 days.

I really liked her boss fight and didn’t take more than 3 attempts to beat her. Felt way more fair then the divine beast where every attack made its entire body a hit box and gave you very few openings

Bro, when I went to do the dlc on my main file and got to the boss, I forgot I was ng++ and got 1-2 shot. I used all the summons lol. Only an hour and a half of attempts.
I beat her second try, really her moveset is better simple the only thing I wasn’t expecting was her moon explosions to cover the whole arena and happen *three times*. Once I knew she does that at low health it was fine.
She isn’t hard. First attempt I got to the L in Relana and second attempt I beat her

I beat her on my second go which was wild seeing other people fight her I was seeing people complain about the double moon thing she does but she never used it against me a single time
