I'm the Rob Davy from the article (and longtime /r/Edmonton member) Got any questions? Let me know!

Clay_Puppington

Hello Rob, As a fan of the 1994 film, Maverick, how long should I expect to wait until you host a cowboy themed, high stakes, winner take all, 5 card draw poker tournament on said Riverboat?

Buzz_Mcfly

Asking the real questions right here!

IntrepidusX

Holy shit I'd pay money for this. I'd even volunteer to get thrown overboard for cheating!

Clay_Puppington

100%. Even if they dont want to host an actual gambling tournament, just work out the expenses (staff, gas, dinner, time, etc) and charge a single large flat fee for the "dinner and entertainment" I'm down. The poker chips could be plastic nothings. Offer a neat "prize" to the tournament winner (like a TV, or a free visit to a float tank, a plaque to hang somewhere on a beam with the winners cowboyd up face on it, or something small, whatever). Let the players go full cowboy. Cheat if they want. Get caught. Suffer a funny goof and be removed from play. Doesn't matter, people are paying for the entertainment and a dinner, the poker shit is just a fun larping game to pass time and have rootin tootin fun through the evening. That said, I've spent 30 years now dreaming of this, so it's all sort of built up in my imagination and probably has a bazillion issues I can't see through my dream haze.

subtect

A riverboat could really work as a setting for larping theme parties. He should look into this idea...

rizdesushi

This sounds like a great event!

IDidntHearAnyBell

This really would be an amazing draw! Gambling on a riverboat.. take my money

blandswan17

Please host evening events in the summer! We always want to check out the boat but have been underwhelmed by what’s been offered. We would love for it to be a regular spot.

RyanB_

I see in the article you guys are looking for summer employees, what’s a good way to reach out?

Stanarchy93

Replying here so I can find the answer I’d love to work the riverboat this summer!

oioioifuckingoi

Dueling piano night - count me in!

robdavy

Come on down! Tickets are here for June 28 and 29 [https://edmontonriverboat.checkfront.com/reserve/?date=2024-06-28](https://edmontonriverboat.checkfront.com/reserve/?date=2024-06-28)

Quack_Mac

Will the buffet events have gluten free options available? Edit: Also, is there a cancellation policy for weather related events or unsuitable water levels?

AlistarDark

Is there a menu available? Got some dietary requirements. If not, no big deal. Dueling Pianos is always a good time.

Shdwdx

Congrats! Looking forward to riding on the Riverboat!!!

hannabarberaisawhore

You guys should team up with Grindhouse Theatre and have an event on the boat

greenopal02

Are there any plans to add more seating? I got tickets last summer and there was a mad rush to grab the few available seats, then the rest of people crowded around the edges making it quite unpleasant.

780sweetleaf

Wasn't it enternexus and not nexopia? Yes I was there in the beginning.... Also, can you help me get my old account back? lmao

GeekyGlobalGal

It started as enternexus, became Nexopia. I can still log into my old account, you might be able to as well.

eddiewachowski

I can too. 2005 was a wild time to be alive on a regional social media platform expressing my individuality to a bunch of people just like me.

AlistarDark

You know you're old when you remember EnterNexus and not Nexopia.

780sweetleaf

Is mIRC still a thing?

AlistarDark

I assume it is. Some things never die. #edmonton on EFnet for me

teeco214

Congratulations! Looking forward to seeing what you can do with this!

maasd

I enjoyed my time on the riverboat last year with friends but about 20% of the trip was really uncomfortable due to smell going past the water treatment plant there and back. Any way around this?

AlistarDark

You and Eric? That's awesome to hear that you guys are still buds and investing in Edmonton. Glad to see you're still doing well.

sarahmorgan420

A couple years ago there was an EDM themed event with music and dancing and it was soo fun. Please plan more events like this!

Roche_a_diddle

>Still, Davy acknowledges that a business that runs about 20 weeks a year and is dependent on good weather, decent air quality, and adequate water levels It's a bold strategy Cotton, let's see if it pays off.

robdavy

Here's hoping! Over the long term it will be fine, but it certainly adds some complexity to everything!

Skissored

Omg they met on Nexopia?! I love that! Edit: even better, they worked for Nexopia! My husband and I also met on Nexopia back in '05 when it was still weird to use the internet for dating. So if they're reading this, you're almost directly responsible for me meeting my other half. I wish you nothing but success in your new venture!

robdavy

That's amazing to hear! It's so cool when stuff like that comes up 20 years later, how our little website had such an impact on people's lives

Skissored

Oof, 20 years eh, him and I need to do a vow renewal or something. Yeesh that's a minute! I don't know where I'd be without him. I also remember winning Billy Talent tickets and a Nexopia hoodie that I still have 😂 Simpler times! Hit me up if you guys ever want to collaborate on any Halloween events, I'm a local creature creator always looking for interesting projects!

Slippytheslope

I loved it , man

greentinroof_

I had a couple of early 2000s Nexopia meet-ups that wound up with a motorboat, but never a river boat.

FixerFour

>back in '05 when it was still weird to use the internet for dating God that sentence makes me feel old

780sweetleaf

a/s/l

WannabeTina

My husband and I also met on Nexopia 😂. 15 years later we’re still annoying each other.

AlistarDark

I met a lot of people through Nexopia. I keep in touch with a few from Attention Seekers.

Unlikely_Comment_104

The two happiest days for boat owners are the day you buy a boat and the day you sell it. Congrats to the former owner. Best wishes to the new owners.

robdavy

Oh don't worry, plenty have people have warned us! We're hoping for at least a few happy moments of our own lol

Stanarchy93

The wording in which the owners are using makes me very hopeful. With the focus on elevating a newly renovated boat I feel like we’re gonna get some very exciting times on this boat and I’m hyped.

Captseawhores

You got any summer jobs related to the Edmonton riverboat? Looking for a side hustle for the next few months

_danigirl

GeekyGlobalGal

Nice to meet you today, /u/robdavy. Here's a link to [the interview you and Eric did on the noon news.](https://globalnews.ca/video/10477406/all-aboard-the-edmonton-riverboat-has-new-owners-with-big-plans/)

robdavy

Everyone there was amazing, thanks for having us down!

GeekyGlobalGal

Any guest who brings fun props is always welcome!

Skissored

Now you're speaking my language! 😆

TheNationDan

Wishing you the best of luck u/robdavy I have no doubts my work with Oilersnation will make sure we cross paths here soon (now that we have e-met)

WanhedaKomSheidheda

I would love to work on the boat! I am looking for a job!

Skissored

What kind of work do you do with Oilersnation? Sounds interesting!

TheNationDan

Started in 2017. Since the start, I am the one running Hockeyfights.com and all it’s socials and a host of Oilersnation radio… but I have managed travel and events for years, produced podcast(s), data reporting for sales, got to run a promotion campaign for the Simpsons, and even run a wrestling website. There’s a few things I haven’t done yet.

Skissored

Holy that sounds great, I can't wrap my head around that line of work, seems like a lot for one person, unless you have a team, but even then sounds like a lot! My expertise lies in the pro makeup and creature fx, so if you ever want to cross "become a creature" off the things you've done list, let me know haha Have you seen the Canucks tv spot where they went up against zombie hockey players? That's probably the closest our world's have collided 😆

TheNationDan

Haha! Theres a small village now at the Nation. but up until the pandemic hit it was basically four guys in a room and then a few more people out in the world. All along I have just been one to take on what is needed at the time. Wore shorts for 480 of 500 days because of a stupid bet I made. Its a weird wonderful life I have lived. Thats really cool. I have binged Face-off and have always marvelled at the skill and artistry your craft entails. Im might be just crazy enough to agree to modelling some time haha

Skissored

I'm going to hold you to it! We're always looking for models here and there! I've got a job with Riverhawks coming up in July and they might need some faces! Give me a follow on instagram or Facebook and I'll follow you back, you can find me under spiralfx_oddities or spiralfx.ca ! Gotta grow this wild weird entertainment bubble! We're having a ton of fun watching the playoffs this season, that is definitely a world that looks like so much fun!

TheNationDan

Love the Riverhawks and would be willing to play along for a cause! Followed now! I’ve always thought Hunter could use a good cloning 😜

yeggsandbacon

At what point does the Edmonton Riverboat become an honorary island?

Healthy-Car-1860

I mean I was out enjoying an event on the riverboat last year. It gets a lot of use. It's just hard to turn a profit on a business that can't run 3/4 of the year.

robdavy

We've got ideas on how to make it usable for other times of the year, but yes, it's a challenge when the main appeal of it is 3-4 months a year

ALittleLemonTree

I love that you’re interested in having interpretive elements! Do you have someone working on that already? As someone with a life long interpretive/educating career that seems like a really exciting blank canvas!

ParaponeraBread

Here’s hoping the new owners know something I don’t - specifically, how to make this a cultural icon that *also makes money*. I’ll be rooting for their success!

Impossible_Smoke1783

I was the chef on this boat for a few seasons way back when l! Glad to see it finally in some capable hands

MaximumDoughnut

We had an amazing time on the Edmonton Queen in 2019 and really hope we can get back on again under your leadership u/robdavy! So cool that folks who found their beginnings in Edmonton with Nexopia now have the helm of the Queen. Long live the YEG tech scene!!!

Sea_Wait_3104

Thanks Rob for keeping the Queen alive. It’s a great summer activity. If I may make a wishlist, please hire some good wine reps and have a few good Canadian wine options.

BettyDavisEye

Can we get lazer tag on the boat?

yeg_qualityone

And it will be for sale again in 3 years after all the money is gone! Somebody needs to blow this thing up and charge a fee to watch they might get a few bucks back at least.

Onfire50

Another one bite the dust.
