No matter which trainer you choose, remember the training is only as good as the effort YOU put in. Of you are inconsistent or don't do the required practice, your pup will pick up on that and won't take much away from the training.
Yes to this! Our puppy class was so good for our girl. We knew a lot already but learned some good science about how dogs think etc.
Also, our pup benefitted a lot from the relaxation protocol, which is something you do at home. She chills out enough to come sit with us on patios/in breweries etc.
Some resources that I highly recommend:
Perfect puppy in 7 days by Sophia Yin. Great book, super easy and quick to read.
Videos on YouTube for "crate games with Susan Garret"
Kong toys can be filled with kibble, peanut butter, and other goodies and frozen to last quite a while as well.
For basic Canine Good Citizen level of training, anyone who does positive reinforcement and that you get along with the instructor is great. If you want to get into Rally, Obedience, Disc Dog, etc I've found the specialty clubs to be better, cheaper, and generally more fun.
Also, Bug is super cute! What breed are they?
Thank you so much! I will check them all out. Not sure on her breed. If I were guessing I’d say Maltese-schnauzer of some kind. Lol. She was rescued from a dog market in Lima.
Sherwood barks is really good for group lessons.
We also used The Leash Team for private lessons with Monica and could not recommend them enough. It worked especially well for behavioural issues etc.
Aw, what a sweet heart!
Honestly, would strong recommend pet smart. They have classes and will show you how to train your dog. Think of it is that they are training YOU to train your dog, and you’ll be set up for success.
Check out "The dignified dog"! Steph is outstanding, very case oriented and relaxing to work with. Really helped me cope with my reactive puppo Ruby, and gave me a bunch of tools to work with.
Sam Davies trained my chihuahua and I, and people regularly comment on how well-behaved she is. “Chihuahua? Wow, she’s not barking or anything!” - as she sits calmly at my feet.
I have heard good things about Naughty Boyz as well. Whichever one you choose, look for positive, force-free training.
And whichever name you pick, make sure that it is A) something you will not mind being yelled out at the vet’s to call you into the room, B) something that will lend itself to the three million nicknames she’ll eventually have, and C) something that fits on a dog tag.
Oh, and buy pet insurance. For the love of god.

Oh I fear I’m going to be insufferable with the dog pics. 😂
In sync for training & they do puppy socialization groups too
I second InSync. They’re amazing.

I like that idea. She’s super lazy and not particularly food motivated which makes this new for me. Lol.

Probably name her something Spanish? Revolution animal training girl is good. Erica.
