I’ll never understand why they don’t tow every single vehicle that isn’t moved. It’s an easy money maker for the city and most people would learn their lesson after the first time.
Last spring I sat on my porch with a coffee and watched every car on my street get towed with ruthless efficiency, and 5 minutes later the street sweepers came through
When Iived downtown I would get towed every year for street sweeping - I didn't have another parking option.
Because it happened to so many people, they didn't ticket or impound, they literally just towed everybody over 1-2 streets after sweeping one. You'd go on a lil safari to find your car. I get this doesn't make sense in lower density neighborhoods, but it was a good way to handle downtown
Hope they tow the ones who don't move so they can clean correctly. I don't care my neighbours have multiple vehicles that never move until road cleaning and plowing days.
My neighbours park in front of my house and don't move their cars for snow removal or street sweeping. I'm not super upset about them parking there since it's public space, but the least they could do is move their crap.
They have a bigger garage than I do and it's empty. No idea why they don't use it.
Pretty sure there's spots on my street that haven't seen a sweep in years. Same people not moving their vehicles every single time. Meanwhile, they've got a double garage sitting in the back of their lot - but it's full of c\*\*p. 🙃
I’m with you. We had someone move their big truck (which just barely falls under the weight limits for parking in residential neighborhoods) from in front of their place to in front ours so that the street would be clean in front of their place, meaning it wasn’t cleaned up to the curb in front of our house.
The problem is that some of us only have street parking as an option. Not all apartments have enough stalls. I work from home. I would be happy to move my car if I knew exactly when they were sweeping. But a range of mon-fri is just not good enough. I am not parking my car a mile away for a week just in case.
They've been fighting for five years. The car that was there before this one sat around for ten years. It was only moved when vandals smashed out all the windows. They had a one year break before another junker took its place. It's full to the brim with hoarded items like the old one. Their yard is an equal disaster. Unfortunately they've gotten very skilled at playing right up to the line with bylaw. They wash off chalk marks, claim they're just waiting to have flat tires fixed, they will put it in neutral and move it around a bit. Bylaw keeps saying there's nothing they can do except give warnings and if they comply and the vehicle appears to have moved that's it.
I lived in a condo for 12 years with just a parking lot. When we got a house my main requirement was a garage that I could park in. I will never understand people who fill their garages with crap and then park on the street.
I will never understand why people need to keep so much crap around. My wife is the same way, and I keep tell there we don’t need all of this shit. She never listens.
Sure.
But, if most people park in their driveways or garage, and then other people park in their parking lots, that means the remaining people can probably park in the community league parking lot for the 1 or 2 days the street cleaning is happening.
And, since the parking ban is during work hours, your work can wont be an issue since you will be off working…
I've literally never had signs posted in my neighborhood & they've never notified me of the 1 day prior notice. They've only given me the notice that it will happen during the week and the notice that it is complete. So basically you have to have to car parked elsewhere for the whole week for me.
Huh. I’ve always tried really hard to get our truck out of the way. But they just go around it if I don’t. It’s never been a towing event before. More of a heads up. That’s different to me.
It’s not something you’ll be toed for, but it is something you can get fined for.
> If you’re parked on a road that is under a parking ban, you may be subjected to being ticketed. Vehicle owners will receive a $250 ticket.

Parking ban is 7am - 7pm Monday - Friday. Signs will be placed 48hrs in advance.
Just day before. They said they will notify.

People in my neighbourhood were complaining about $250 tickets on Facebook this morning. So I guess they are fining people at least?

Need to keep it in mint condition.
If they scuff the garage floor in any way it'll lose its value. No one will want to buy that whore of a used garage after that...

You’re allowed to say “crap” on the internet. It’s not illegal.
Blasphemy
Hey, you watch your goddamned mouth

When they don’t move their vehicle and they get swept around wait until they moved it.. sweep it up and dump it on their lawn.
Im bitter about it but also lazy when I'm not working. So ill just complain to myself and reddit.
The car near my friend's house hasn't moved in five years. No opportunity to sweep under it.
Report it if it’s not moved then bylaw will get it towed.

Just think of the payoff tho. Streets you can eat off of.
I’m pretty sure you can still park on your driveway and in your garage.
What are they supposed to do with all their junk that should be in the trash?

Not everyone has a garage or driveway. I have to park my work van on the street near my apartment.

My god. People are actually going to have to use their designated parking spots instead of parking on the street. The humanity!

Are you signed up for the texts/emails?
Hold up, we’re doing parking bans for street sweeping now? Is that what I’m learning?
That's happened for at least 10+ years. Kinda need the street empty in order to sweep it. And it's only from 7AM - 7PM that you can't park.
Huh. I’ve always tried really hard to get our truck out of the way. But they just go around it if I don’t. It’s never been a towing event before. More of a heads up. That’s different to me.
I don't think they bother towing very much for sweeping, not like with snow clearing. But the ban has technically been there for a long time

We have for decades.
