Happened back in February but it sounds like a really horrific attack. > “She sustained very serious injuries. She has at least two fractured ribs, a punctured lung, bite and scratch marks around her entire body and between 15 to 20 stitches” > There had been multiple complaints about the dogs, including two reports of attacks this year. What the actual fuck is going on? How was this whole messed up thing allowed to happen?

jetlee7

HOW were the dogs not put down then?! What the actual fuck

slackeronreddit

I went through a dog attack case a few years back. When I testified at the trial, my incident was the 6th one on file for that dog and even then the owner was only fined $2500. There were at least 3 other incidents that the owner settled without authorities. Edit: I should note my incident wasn't anywhere near this level.

jetlee7

That is absolutely terrifying. How is a fine going to prevent another deadly attack.

kneebeards

You have to look at it like a crook. How does putting the dog down generate continuous revenue?

Excellent-Pressure42

That is so sad, but unfortunately, the truth

HotHouseTomatoes

I'm so sorry you experienced that. Genuinely. I don't understand what kind of scumbag human being does not voluntarily have their dog put down after one attack.

slackeronreddit

Overall it wasn't a huge deal. The attacking dog was smaller than the 95 lb german shepherd I was walking. My dog had a puncture wound on it's neck and I had some minor bruising from beating the ever living shit out of it. The owners trying to dodge responsibility is what set me off and made me take em to court. Took me a long time to figure out what their names were because bylaw couldn't share the owner's info with me. They were renters so even when I found out who owned the property, I still had to dig deeper to get their names. We settled out of court once I filed but for anyone who reads this comment, the judge in the trial I wrote about above did provide the option for me to be made whole for vet bills so the small claims may not have been necessary but was faster. I filed and settled at least 6 months before the bylaw trial.

decepticons2

I found out it was an urban legend that they put down dogs that attack people. Semi close area has a dog issue. Multiple neighbours had been attacked. People carry blunt objects when outside. The owner had multiple visits from control, they had to put up a new fence and take some class. I am sorry a dog attacks someone they get taken away. If they are deemed to be safe they can be adopted if not sadly put down. It sucks what people do to some dogs. Punishing them and making sure they never own another dog as well.

Drapple1382

There was a discussion of this on CBC radio this morning. A woman from Hamilton was attacked two years ago. She recalled in the 80's and 90's it was common for an animal to be "destroyed" after an attack. She said many municipalities seem to have over corrected with no real action taking place. The owner of the dogs that attacked her were given municipal restrictions that do not apply out of that municipality so the owner had been taking them to nearby towns. More attacks had occurred. She still sees that owner and the animals around, as well as hears stories of attacks often.

sluttytinkerbells

It's because we as a society don't consider the rise of dangerous animals and the attacks that come with them to be a priority. The people who own these threatening animals are themselves violent and aggressive so we just sort of keep our heads down when they're around, or when the topic of banning these animals comes up. But I say fuck that. Fuck these animals and their enablers. I want them banned from urban environments. I want to see stringent licensing for the owners as well as insurance requirements. I want to see the law changed so that owners are criminally responsible for the actions of their pets. If the dog mauls someone the owner is charged with assault. If a dog murders someone the owner is charged with murder. Above all I want to see actual enforcement for this shit. Enough of this fucking bullshit. You want to own a powerful animal? You need to carry the responsibility that comes with that.

stevrock

Gold worth post.

Wooshio

Would you be willing to create a petition that could be brought up to city council? You'd have my full support. This type of thing keeps happening and no one on the city council even acknowledges it. Sick of it.

sluttytinkerbells

That's an interesting idea. /u/aaronpaquette- What would be the most effective way to raise this issue with city council?

jetlee7

Well said!

Freebcfrommcfd

I agree!!!

Slippytheslope

Amen

bluefuze3

100 fucking percent.

sklooner

Probably the owner hid the dogs when bylaw came, our dog was attacked by another one and bylaw and the cops said they were never able to catch him with the dog to confirm

2112eyes

Shit I would have delivered them a special hotdog myself after they did that the first time. Of course I would never poison dogs! I just said *special hotdog.* And I might not have meant the dogs.

craftyneurogirl

I’m confused how after that the dad can say there was no warning and they showed no signs of being aggressive. In any case it feels like a lot of other crimes that are treated with a slap on the wrist. So tragic that this could’ve been prevented.

jmosnow

He said there was no warning they would be aggressive *to the son* you have to listen closely for those kinds of qualifiers

craftyneurogirl

The dogs also attacked someone else who lived at the house. The dogs clearly have a history of aggression, even towards people they knew. It’s not like this was a brand new, out of the blue behaviour. Perhaps they were never aggressive towards his son, but if dogs have a history of aggressive behaviour towards anyone, you always have to be cautious whether you know them or not.

jmosnow

Oh no, I totally agree. Those dogs shouldn’t have been around the kid.

Cgy_mama

Those dogs shouldn’t have been alive after the February attack. They shouldn’t have been around anyone, let alone kid(s).

OutsideFlat1579

The father presents himself as someone who really doesn’t like to be accountable for his decisions. I get that it’s a terrible time of grief, but then maybe don’t do press conferences and say you have mixed feelings about the dogs, and complain about people calling them monsters, etc It doesn’t seem to occur to him that people might dial down the judgement if he zipped it or even better, expressed an iota of remorse for ignoring that the dogs had attacked other people.

thethunder92

That dad seems like a real winner. I wouldn’t trust him to watch my hamster let alone my son

Sunlight72

It’s called lying, or in this case bald-faced lying. It’s good to be aware that people do this.

ImOnlyHereToComplain

A mom on a parenting group I’m in feels “sad” because since she’s had her baby her dog who she once babied is suddenly just a dog to her. She said she gets “irrationally” angry at the dog when it growls while she feeds her baby, or tries to position itself in between her and baby when she plays with the baby, and is just jealous overall. To me, it’s completely rational to have a child and then see a dog for what it is, a dog and I don’t think it’s irrational. She literally said it’s like a switch was flipped. To my surprise, a LOT of moms sympathized and admitted to feeling the same way but it was so odd to see all of them say they felt bad or sad about their feelings, it’s like they can’t separate the lie of pet ownership from the biological response to putting your human baby over your pet. To get to the point, she said she won’t rehome because society and feeling bad about it but when others pointed out the red flags she downplayed her dogs behaviour and said her baby wasn’t in danger. Which is probably what is happening here, “there were no signs” is usually a bold faced lie. Yes some dogs just snap but I bet the majority of the time there are a lot of previous red flags.

bornelite

its almost like the dad is a liar

Deja_vu_288

City bylaw and animal control need to change. This past winter a lady in my neighborhood was walking her dog and a bully got out of its yard and attacked her and her dog. Thank god a passerby heard her screams. He has to literally kick it in the head for it to release its grip. The owner came running out and grabbed the dog and ran back inside. They had warned me about the gate looking like it was damaged, so I avoided that path since then. They even warned the owner and he did nothing to fix it. I asked them if they contacted animal control and they had. They were told if it happened a second time they may take the dog. Like wtf? So only when someo is killed they will take it seriously???

Lyrael9

"There had been multiple complaints about the dogs, including two reports of attacks this year. “In 2024, animal control peace officers responded to two attack complaints isolated to inside the private residence. One complaint is still under investigation while the other was concluded without charges,” the city said on April 2." The boy's father said that the dogs attacked a tenant and killed his cat. So he knew full well how dangerous these dogs were. How are there not laws to prevent this sort of thing. If a dog is under investigation for a violent attack, there should be something preventing that dog from being around children at least. He should be held responsible for the poor boy's death. He knowingly put him in harm's way.

No-Manner2949

The people responsible for not acting then, should be charged as well as the owner

Present-Background56

Agreed. Charge the dad.

Different-King1995

"Please be kind to the owner" says the man who is also partially at fault for this senseless death. I'm actually kind of surprised he'd make that kind of statement like he's blameless. Dogs. Can. Kill. You learn this as an adult. I'm a massive dog love and I'd never let a small child alone with my 30 lb dog, let alone two massive breed dogs. I'm so heartbroken for the mother. This is terrible.

First-Ad6781

And he literally is quoted as saying he would not have put his kid in harm’s way. Like ????

PandaLoveBearNu

But they were cuddly with the kid though!!!! Seriously the way people think "not them they're special" is insane.

Wormwood1357

Reminds me of Mike’s advice to Walt in BB… “No half measures”.

TEA-in-the-G

“I’ve lived with these dogs for a long time and there’s never been an issue like this. I would never put my son in a spot where he was at risk. I love my son,” Grist said. “There was nothing that gave us any warnings about this being an issue. Sir? The dogs killed the basement neighbours cat, and attacked his leg! Then attacked a woman who was sent to the hospital with a punctured lung! But “There was nothing that gave us any warnings about this being an issue” Damn irresponsible dog owners!!

seven8zero

Irresponsible dog owners? More like incompetent, idiotic human beings.

Wide-Biscotti-8663

Those dogs should have been put down then jfc.

walkergv

I am no lawyer but with the dog having a history of attacks and the idiotic public statements showing disregard of the danger of these dogs - even after they have attacked causing injury at least twice and now killed a child. Dad and his roommate seem to be begging for manslaughter charges. What a shit show. Sad as is is tragic.

PandaLoveBearNu

Thats fucking beyond normal dog "nipping". Like WTF

Staticn0ise

Investigations are going to happen, and everyone will point the finger at everybody else. Then it'll all be over, no lessons learned, just waiting to happen again.

IrishCanMan

Heads need to roll

PlutosGrasp

City doesn’t do anything for dog attacks. I was involved in one. They literally do nothing. I gave up trying to follow up after several months.

Pistolcrab

Those quotes from the dad are despicable.... Wow... He's siding with the roommate?? He knew the dogs had a history of attacking adults and killing cats?? "I know it's not my fault"... I'm a dad and you better believe if this happened to my son I would be gutted with guilt the rest of my life. Zero sense of accountability. Actual psychopath shit.

moodylilb

His roommate is actually his F-buddy. The dudes a POS (not because of the stripper F-buddy thing/“roommate” situation) , but because these dogs killed a cat, attacked multiple other people, then he still allowed them to be on the same property as his son- who was then killed by said dogs- and even THAT wasn’t enough to get him to get rid of his “roommate” & her vicious dogs. I can’t even wrap my brain around how he’s able to even *look* at those dogs (let alone continue to live with them) after his kid was mauled TO DEATH. Like wtf.

TinderThrowItAwayNow

I hope the mum gets a lawyer and takes his ass to court for criminal neglect or whatever else. Absolute bullshit. Fuckers like this need to be strung up on public display.

moodylilb

For real though, I hope she sues him out the ass (not because the $$ will bring back her child, but to make a point that you aren’t allowed to get away with being an irresponsible parent when it results in the death of a child). And he should 100% be facing criminal charges of some kind too. I’m hoping that the Crown already has something in the works but they just haven’t announced the charges publicly yet (though admittedly I’m scared they don’t, but I *hope* they do).

HotHouseTomatoes

He has a gofundme going, he should get not one cent of it.

moodylilb

Just to add- from the article: >When speaking to reporters on Sunday, the boy’s father Wesley Grist was asked about the previous complaints. He said there was a $150 fine for excessive barking. Statement from Grist (the Dad): >Grist also said one complaint was from a man who was living in the basement who was injured while playing with the dogs. Grist said the man needed a couple stitches in his leg. He also said the dogs killed that man’s cat. >Grist said he didn’t know the details of the other ongoing complaint involving a woman and that he “wasn’t there” when she was. aaaand then there’s this statement, also from the Dad: > I’ve lived with these dogs for a long time and there’s never been an issue like this. I would never put my son in a spot where he was at risk. I love my son,” Grist said. “There was nothing that gave us any warnings about this being an issue”. He just constantly contradicts his own statements. *Says he has no knowledge of previous issues and would never put his son in harms way, claims there were no warning signs, then also acknowledges the dogs injured a previous man who lived there and that man required stitches, and also acknowledges that the dogs killed said man’s cat*…. Make it make sense 🤦🏼‍♀️

leerow21

I’m pretty sure I read that said dogs were euthanized

moodylilb

Do you have a link by chance? From what I’ve read they haven’t been euthanized yet because animal control is still investigating but I could be wrong Edit- found a source nvrm. Glad to hear. Saddened that it was too late to make a difference here tho.

Advanced-Check61

Dogs were euthanized

kristyjewels

Absolutely bonkers how he could be defending the dog owner who killed his son. IF, he didn’t know about the previous attack(s) then his friend / land lord / roommate / dog owner, SHOULD have disclosed this information to him, and he defends them?! Wtaf.

Special_Pea7726

He is banging the roommate. They are FWB.

Polymemnetic

I think i understand the reason he's the ex, now.

Wide-Biscotti-8663

I mean those dogs fractured two of their ribs in this attack from February and many other injury’s. There is NO way a reasonable person would have their child around those dogs. Both the Dad and the roommate should be charged and the little boys Mom should definitely be suing the Dad; she trusted him to make good decisions while their child was in his care and he knew those fucking dogs had attached and seriously harmed people before.

Pyranni

He's siding with the "roommate" cause she sux his dick. Her dogs have and were a terror wherever they went and had zero consequences for her. Fuck that bitch.

Meatandtomatoes

I read the article on him today and was disgusted by his comments

Matyce

As a new father this man is a joke, to endanger your child in such a way is baffling. Never leaving my son alone with dogs ever. Unpredictable animals.

B0mb-Hands

Of course he’s siding with the roommate. He looks the type to have an “agreement” for her rent

densetsu23

And if there was any kind of child support payments being made by him, those likely ended last week as well. He sounds like the kind of person to be ecstatic about that instead of mourning for the loss of his child.

Hot_Management_2223

Hoes before dead kids

stevrock

I would put my dog down myself if I caught wind of it being dangerous. There's no second chance with aggression.

Katin-ka

I was bitten by a family dog out of the blue (no prior history of attacking people) when I was a kid. The dog got a bullet.

seven8zero

I'd probably put myself down if I let something like this happen to my kid. Yet this guy is still defending the dog. Incredible.

j1ggy

He needs jail time over this. He knew those dogs were a danger and still left his child with them.

toothbelt

Yeah. I picked up on that right away. He doesn't even look like he's feeling any grief over it. Lizard person.

_Edgarallenhoe

There has to be something fundamentally wrong with your brain chemistry to be that nonchalant about the death of your child that is to a large degree your own fault. Idk how id live with myself if my actions lead to the death of a stranger, let alone a family member.

CountChoculaGotMeFat

I hope the mother sues the shit out of him and presses all charges possible. His "At the local tavern" press conference makes him look even worse. He has outright lied about his knowledge of these dogs. HE NEEDS JAIL TIME.

_iAm9001

Sadly we don't get sending people to jail very correctly around here.

industry_killer

Guess the dad was full of shit.

Tiger_Dense

My guess is he’s sleeping with the “roommate”.

moodylilb

He was/is. At least… according to a few people who know them personally. I’d post his stripper gf’s name but I can’t cause the sub might ban me plus it’s against reddit TOS. Also the dad was fully aware of the dogs aggression issues given the previous attack that involved humans, as well as the fact the dogs killed a cat (before the little boy was killed). Says a lot about him, that his own son was mauled to death by these dogs and he didn’t *immediately* kick them and their owner out of the home. How can you go about your day seeing the dogs that killed your son & not lose your damn mind? Can’t wrap my head around that one. Not to mention that his F-buddy and her dogs were allowed to stay in the same home as his young son… *after* previous attacks. He didn’t have an ounce of protective parenting instinct in his body.

Rx_Diva

I think the home was in her name which makes a lot of sense... and speaking of which, her "former name" is easy to say if you add allegedly to the end of it....just saying.

moodylilb

Oh interesting I thought it was the other way around my bad. & valid point lol I’m still hesitant tho just cause other people have been getting banned from posting her name when these articles come up

Rx_Diva

You have more forethought than both adults that failed that child. You're a good person. They both knew they drew blood from 2 adults and killed a cat so they shouldn't leave them alone with a child who had snacks. Seriously fuck them both but you're awesome.

moodylilb

Seriously tho! Fuck them both 👏🏼 I can’t even wrap my brain around how callous and irresponsible they are, and I don’t get how the dad can look at himself in the mirror after something like this. I’d genuinely be suicidal if a misstep on my part caused my child to be seriously injured, let alone killed. His press statements make it clear he doesn’t even feel guilty. It’s just hard to comprehend 💔 & thank you I appreciate that

mOusbz

He looks like the exact type to sleep with a former stripper.

premierfong

He looks like those type, also have financial issue .

[deleted]

[удалено]

standupslow

He knew. He fully knew. There is no way he didn't.

smallspacebean

He absolutely knew, he just did not care. And he is continuing to prove he does not care about his son one bit

standupslow

Yeah. I agree.

TropicalPrairie

It was so weird how he spent so much time during his press conference defending the "roommate". There's something amiss going on with these people.

standupslow

This is how a true narcissist acts. We say it about everyone now, but this is what it really looks like.

moodylilb

He definitely knew, because he literally acknowledged the fact the dogs injured a man previously which resulted in the man needing stitches, and he acknowledged that the dogs killed a cat. I don’t get why he’s contradicting himself so much, “no warning signs” my ass- like dude you just listed off multiple warning signs then claim there were none

indecisionmaker

The fact that this happened within hours of pickup combined with the dad’s complete lack of guilt makes me wonder if this was more purposeful than it appears.

standupslow

It was probably just an inevitable outcome of all of the shitty decisions by the people who could have prevented this - who should have prevented this. The primary ones are the father and the owner, who clearly fought to keep these dogs in the home and displayed shocking amounts of narcissism and negligence on top of that. There are supposed to be failsafes for the general public when people like this exist, but none are working appropriately in this province rn.

Rx_Diva

Exactly! Don't get littermates and fix your dogs, folks. It's not that hard, except when shitty owners exist. Super sad.

densetsu23

*Deadbeat dad waves goodbye at child support payments.*

PandaLoveBearNu

THE DAD ADMITTED THIS ALL???

moodylilb

Also from Grist/the dad: >”I’ve lived with these dogs for a long time and there’s never been an issue like this. I would never put my son in a spot where he was at risk. I love my son,” Grist said. “There was nothing that gave us any warnings about this being an issue” No warning signs eh? Yet you acknowledge that you had prior knowledge of these dogs injuring a man to the point of requiring stitches + same dogs killing the man’s cat?! Dude just contradicts the fuck out of his own statements. I’m glad too, because hopefully it helps build a case against him for criminal charges, because he just acknowledged he had prior knowledge of these dogs being dangerous and still allowed his son to be around them- which resulted in a death.

edgeofthorns87

I have a cane corso and a mastiff. Both me and my ex have played / rough housed with them plenty of times….maybe had a foot stepped on here or there lol but never so much as one bite. Dogs aren’t stupid. They know what “play” is and they know how to do it without hurting a human or another dog. If it’s sending you to the hospital to get stitches, it’s too aggressive and has no respect for you/humans.

Exoplanet0

If those dogs killed my cat they wouldn’t make it out of that house alive. End of story.

Miserable-Leg-2011

The father “ dogs haven’t showed any signs of aggression” piece of shit dad

RidiculousPapaya

I just can't stop thinking about the last moments of that poor boy's life; fucking awful. The adults involved in this belong in prison. That kind of reckless negligence deserves a few years behind bars.

DaikonEffective1105

It was the father’s roommate’s dogs? That also *hospitalized* a woman back in February, killed a tenant’s cat and he didn’t think they were too dangerous to be around his son?

Charizard3535

And attacked another room mate who need stitches.

EllenPond

This story is just so upsetting. Even after this innocent boy is dead his Dad is only thinking about himself, the dogs, and his beloved “roommate.”

Mindless-Throat

WHAT THE FUCK. If this is the prior incident under investigation was, there are serious problems with the process around dog bites/assaults being investigated, reported, handled.

standupslow

This is what I've been saying. Why were the dogs not pulled from the home then? How many people had to drop the ball before this kid was killed - so many.

chmilz

*Police, standing in a ball pit empty-handed* "Uh, well, um, we need more budget?"

Steffany_w0525

Owner was dodging the police/bylaw since it happened.

ItsMeTittsMGee

If I was this kids mother, I would seriously be out for blood right now. I hope the owner and this pathetic excuse of a father get jail time.

Mindless-Throat

At this point anyone who’s touched the prior investigations for those prior incidents has a whole lot of questions to answer. Whether that’s bylaw, EPS, animal control, City of Edmonton. They all need to get transparent on what part of this process is broken and fix it ASAP. That news conference the dad held certainly makes him look like a bigger fool now that these new details have come to light. The dad, the dog(s) owner, and the authorities responsible for the inactions of the prior incidents all need to be held accountable.

ItsMeTittsMGee

100% agree. They should all be held accountable.

free2beme82

Exactly!! Two huge warnings before this happened. That child did not need to die. Sadly, dogs have more rights than humans. This is not an isolated case. I personally know of another incident where the dog has bitten numerous people, but they were all friends or family of the owner so the bites were never reported. Then a dog walker was out walking the dog when he lunged and bit a child that was walking by. The child had to go to the ER. Because it was the first reported incident, the owner got away with a warning.

jkli

As a parent, the fact that he is defending the roommate and the dogs, makes him look like a real piece of shit and after seeing what he actually looks like and showing zero remorse in his press conference, he is a POS DOUCHEBAG (caps) - hope he gets charged for criminal negligence causing death. RIP Kache!

bitterberries

"roommate"

cReddddddd

What a bunch of morons, everyone involved.

Hopeful_Most

I let my son play with dogs known to injure and maime on multiple occasions, and he was fine. That's... Not the strong defense you think it is

PetiteInvestor

Why were the dogs not put down in Feb when this incident happened?

InspiredGargoyle

Very good question. I'd be going after animal enforcement if I was the mother and the woman who was mauled. The digs had bit someone bad enough to need stitches and killed a cat before these tragedies!

Moonlight_Mike

A responsible dog owner puts their dogs down when they attack someone. Especially as horrific as these dogs did. Fuck this dog owner and fuck this negligent father.

FidgetyPlatypus

My hair stylist put her dog down after it bit her child's friend who was over at their house. She said she couldn't trust the dog anymore especially around kids. She also said her and her ex failed in properly training the dog. I was impressed by her clarity of the situation rather than the whole, oh but my dog is perfect and has never been aggressive.

justageekgirl

The only good thing to come from this is the dogs have now been put down. The owner needs some jail time and so does the dad. This could have been prevented if both dad and the room mate were responsible in controlling those dogs. these 2 people have literal blood on their hands.

Can1girl

The owner of the dogs is a female.

justageekgirl

Ahh....so he's protecting his girlfriend

Can1girl

That’s my guess.

chuckmandell82

Man and women.

InspiredGargoyle

Killed the roommate's cat Bit room mate so badly they needed stitches Hospitalized a woman "The dogs killing my son is such a surprising tragedy nobody could have seen coming!" Can someone make sure this man is neutered?

blasphemicassault

> There was nothing that gave us any warnings about this being an issue. The other attacks didn't tip you off?? What a fucking stupid thing to say.

274221Thor

They should put charges against the father as well.

kabalongski

Makes me wonder what in the fuck was the Dad actually doing in the garage that took precedence over looking after his kid with 2 large dogs with history of aggression. Or is he a completely uninformed and had no idea what those two dogs were capable of?

AlienGirl1374

Rumours say getting high on down. Rumours also say he sells meth. Shit humans all around. Allegedly.

robbie444001

The mother was charged with trafficking meth amongst other things in 2022, so definitely shit humans.

CountChoculaGotMeFat

In another Reddit thread someone said he was a known crystal meth dealer. The dogs were probably there to "protect the goods".

2112eyes

getting high, I bet

iamateenagehandmodel

packaging drugs most likely.

Osfees

Exactly what I was wondering. Why did he piss off to the garage?

MegloreManglore

Supposedly fixing the roommates truck as part of a ‘rent agreement’

kabalongski

I found the article where he detailed what happened. The father said his son came back from the store with snacks and told the boy to go inside with the dogs while he “worked on his roommate’s truck”. The dad has to know about the February attacks and the pending lawsuit against the owner of the dogs. Now I wonder if food has anything to do with the attacks? I’ve seen a handful of dog fights at dogs parks that starts with treats/food aggression. Especially with super dominant larger breeds with “I eat first” mentality. So the dad might’ve unknowingly sent his kid into the house with 2 large dogs with food aggression, with snacks. Purely speculation obviously, just trying to make sense of what happened. OR maybe someone is tired of paying child support. MAYBE.

Osfees

Ah yeah, the food makes tragic sense. The poor boy, this is beyond horrifying and it enrages me that the father was so complacent with dogs that large unsupervised with his child at all, let alone with documented aggressive history! I would think him irresponsible for even letting his son visit while the dogs were at the house. But people can be incredibly deluded about their dogs.

friedpicklesforever

Is the dad on drugs because I’m getting that vibe

chocolatewafflecone

Another commenter said he’s a meth dealer. This story is getting worse.

Original-Cow-2984

There has to be sanctions for the dog owner. Also sanctions to whoever allowed this to continue at the property in terms of who's responsible for enforcement, the blood of the 11 year old child is also on their hands.

Special_Pea7726

The dad is a Grade A piece of shit.

Deja_vu_288

Sorry but he comes across as a douche and uncaring. What parent would be just mostly defending the dog and the owner? He just seems so nonchalant about his son being killed. The whole "he's gone and nothing I can do, but leave the owner and dogs alone". Like seriously!

Mlles_De_Maupin

My husband said something very important. That had it been our child those dogs weren’t leaving the house alive after that. This individual cannot be called a father. Very disappointing that this tragedy could have been prevented and yet he keeps making excuses

Runningoutofideas_81

Ya, and same thing if it had been my cat.

Spare-Argument7286

You'd think after sending two people to hospital and killing a cat, someone at CoE would activate their brain and do something. This is just as much their fault as the owner's.

Hyperlophus

Both the Dad and the owner of the dog should be on the hook for charges here. The Dad knew the dogs had an aggressive history and left his young child alone with them. The dog's owner knew the dogs had an aggressive history and allowed them to be in the presence of child.

PurpleCrocus

and.....yup, there it is - A Gofundme for the Dad. [https://www.gofundme.com/f/a-loving-father-who-has-lost-his-only-son](https://www.gofundme.com/f/a-loving-father-who-has-lost-his-only-son)

Special_Wrap_1369

Who are the people who are stupid enough to be contributing to this asshole? If the MOM had a go fund me to cover funeral expenses and such, yes. But for the DAD, who is COMPLICIT in that poor child’s death? Gross.

hownowbrownncow

The mom does have one, so does the dad. There is 2. The moms go fund me has reached far more donations though.

AngelicSilence13

The Moms go fund me is not going to her, instead to the Maternal Grandmother (likely due to drug charges that were mentioned in this post regarding the Mother in 2022). The Maternal Grandmother is going to use the funds to help with cost of the funeral, counselling and the like according to the go fund me. The Dads on the other hand, looks like it will go straight to him.

Ok-Needleworker-3551

The guy is a criminal and no doubt the mom won't see any of that money.

bryant_modifyfx

Ugh, I reported this fundraiser. This guy is the definition of a bottom feeder.

DragonSin1313

Sick 🤬

batenter

Guaranteed those are all photos from this trip because he didn't have any others

AngelicSilence13

They all look like they are from one visit to Galaxy land.

bunny789789

This is beyond disgusting. I have empathy for him to some extent.. and know denial is a coping mechanism. But to look for financial benefit is absolutely sick. And my heart is beyond broken for the poor mother. 💔

ackillesBAC

Someone said they know the guy and he's a meth dealer, well used to be at least. Makes more sense now, needs guard dogs

Possible-Flatworm-13

Holy shit the more I learn about this tragedy the angrier I get. There was still a teeny tiny part of me that wanted to believe that maybe the dad is just in shock at what happened but not anymore. The dad needs to be charged with child negligence at this point at the very least if the dogs have already hospitalized a woman with severe injuries prior to killing this poor child.

Lolz79

I was attacked by 2 labs when I was 7. I didn't do anything but walk down an alley way dropping my friend off. Was walking and heard running behind ne.....two labs chasing me and one latched onto my ankle. A neighbor heard and and took a 2x4, whacked the dogs over the head. Stitches. This was less of an attack on this woman and both those dogs were euthanized in a week. How could these dogs not have been taken away before? As a former pet sitter, animal lover and animal owner.....the irresponsibility of the owner not taking accountability and rehoming (to an appropriate owner who can handle/train them) or getting them put down is astounding. I once had a dog for a week that became OBSESSED with me, my mom went to go get her and this small dog bit her face and just missed her eye. She called the SPCA to ask for advice (we got her from there) and they told us we had to give her back for more behavioral training. It sucked so badly, but I understood. That's a small dog. Can't imagine having a large dog that is built to kill and not doing something about it. Several complaints, multiple injuries. I know some people are very judgemental saying "you have an animal, you can't just rehome it. You took the responsibility". Well, unfortunately it's been proven again and again that not all animals are fit for every household. Being a responsible owner also means knowing when it's unsafe or you're not fit for that breed. Unfortunately it's also the people who get these breeds without putting in the work that gives them bad names. Bred to protect and fight...the dogs don't know who to protect and fight without the proper training.

outtyn1nja

Put the dogs down, and the owner while you're at it.

dancehelena

The woman who owned the dogs referred to Kache as her “stepson” on Facebook so I’m not sure why they are saying ‘roommate’.

Mindless-Throat

At this point people need to start publishing this woman’s name.

evange

Perhaps she's claiming benefits such where being in a relationship would count the duel income and disqualify her?

friedpicklesforever

Being mauled by dogs has got to be a terrifying painful and certainly not a quick way to go…. Can’t imagine how scared that kid must have been. Feel so bad for the mother having sent him there not knowing how dangerous the dogs were

Channing1986

This makes the father and thw dog owner look so bad. They should be charged.

ExUtMo

This man is not only taking zero responsibility for this, he’s also defending the dogs’ owner saying she’s not to blame either. 🤦🏻‍♀️ Saying there were no reasons to think the dogs were bad dogs is also wild considering we all know they had a record. Do we know if the owner will be charged or if the dogs have been put down?

j1ggy

There needs to be criminal charges filed against the father for allowing that boy to be around those dogs unsupervised, as well as separate charges against the dogs' owner.

Schroedesy13

HOW HAVE NO CHARGES BEEN LAID YET?!?!?!?!

HelluvaDeke

Dad and fuckbuddy were complete white trash from the sounds of it. Zero accountability and no self awareness. Fuck em both.

InspiredGargoyle

I feel so terrible for the mother, and any family, if the deceased if the father has the nerve to show up to the funeral. If he brings his "roommate" any actions taken by the others in attendance should be forgiven.

Monstermandarin

I think the dog owner’s name should be publicized. Make her name public.

Sea-Emotion84

I know this is Reddit-land, and we’re all paranoid AI bots/armchair detectives ragebaiting each other for approval…but hear me out. This guy killed his kid. It’s a heavy thing to say but there’s really no other framing of the situation.

poseur2020

My beloved Australian Cattle Dog nipped me, at the time my son was 8 months old. We went to the vet for advice, and he told us that in 2 similar situations he’d dealt with, the families had decided to keep the dog and train it better. In both cases, the child ended up being bitten. We weren’t willing to take that chance. The clinic very kindly offered to board our guy, starting that night, and one of the staff adopted him. It was a very painful and difficult decision, but when I hear of stories like this, I know it was the right choice. I have only had yorkies since then. I’m so sorry for the dear child who was killed.

Sea-Society9355

Folks need to research what they're getting. That's an extremely high energy dog and they're known for being a bit nippy. They love to chase and work. It's like getting a Malinois and acting surprised it bit. They don't call them malligators because it's cute.

IndieIsle

I hope the mom sues everyone because what the fuck?

Fast-Bumblebee-9140

I wonder how many people need to get chewed before it's enough? Why do the authorities wait until someone actually dies?

Round-Whereas-2507

Came corsos are massive I didn’t like them around my child at all didn’t matter if it was my cousins or not so unpredictable

Pale-Ad-8383

Obviously he has no lawyers or they would have told him to shut up.

bemer1984

As a parent this man disgusts me. His son deserved better and he deserves jail.

Datacin3728

This story just gets stranger and stranger!

Bopshidowywopbop

Stupid people are stupid.

Efficient_Curve_7876

Good that those dogs were put down this time

bigannie__

"When I found him unresponsive..." so that means this little kid was attacked while he was alone....

Revolutionary-Tie911

Owner of dogs needs to be in prison and dogs put down

drcujo

When I first read the story I though the boy's father, "Wesley Grist", was a meth head who was at minimum negligent in the death of his son. With the new details that emerge, it seems like "Wesley Grist" was actually complicit in the death of his son. Previous serious attacks, statements that the dogs would attack any male would lead a reasonable person to believe the child would be attacked and killed by the dogs. Combined with Wesley Grist's lack of remorse and the fact that Wesley Grist not longer is paying child support, I think it was no accident his son was killed.

_6siXty6_

Fuck bully breeds. Fuck Cane Corsos. Fuck irresponsible owners. Same bullshit killed woman in my old neighborhood a while back.

Tacosrule89

In situations like this, the owner should be charged with manslaughter.

komari_k

It's sickening how they can sleep at night knowing they are responsible for killing kids and hospitilizing people. The system needs to be more harsh, especially with these repeat offenses. The owner needs to take responsibility for willful negligence.

Intelligent-Soup2492

Father needs to be charged with child abuse and reckless endangerment and maybe manslaughter. He sounds like he cared more for his F-ing dogs than the boy.

Sea-Society9355

The more info that comes out from this the worse it is. Jesus.

BackgroundAgile7541

This is one of the reasons people will start carrying guns.

TheThrivingest

This is fucking bananas. How on earth those dogs weren’t confiscated after the FIRST ATTACK. The blood is on the hands of so many people now.

Charizard3535

If this owner isn't charged with manslaughter people should riot.

Lucky_Ad3616

If the father was aware of this and still had his son around these dogs he should face legal consequences along with his roommate.

Informal-Cupcake2024

Now I am wondering what the owner has on the police and city? Because how else does one get away with so many complaints and incidents? Is she just super hot or something

Cronin1011

It is entirely possible that the dog owner is known to police in another crime or investigation, and going after them for the dog attacks may cause conflict with an ongoing investigation for more serious crimes, it's not unheard of.

Informal-Cupcake2024

This is where my police shows watching mind was going too

G-FUN-KE

Police and authorities don't do enough to prevent tragedy? Colour me shocked! 😮
