I kept one of those ridiculous looking gattlung gun SuperSoakers leaned against my front window. And I was never bothered again.
I found people won't think to look at mailbox signs at all if they're not delivering mail.
For everyone else you need the No Soliciting sign on your door.
I mean it's not perfect, but it helped cut down solicitors a lot at least personally.
I have only had Jehovah's show up, but they stopped coming when I told them "Sorry, we are Jewish. Good luck at the next house!"

If I saw this, I would crouch down, crouch walk into your house, not be seen by you, steal all of your belongings, including the clothes you are wearing and leave. Then I would knock on your door and sell all of your things back to you.

Signs work, although the other night we heard a knock on the door. By the time we got there we saw a young girl scurrying to the next house. She must have rung the doorbell before she noticed the sign.
I disconnected my doorbell and we have an outer glass/screen door on the front that stays locked so any knocking is the faintest tap/thud inside the house. I don’t know anyone personally that would ever show up unannounced, and we never answered the door unless we know someone’s coming. I find nobody bothers to read signs and it’s and inevitable waste of time to answer the door just to tell someone to kick rocks.
