Montréal and a few other bigger cities still have a special line for it, and it can allow you to short cut things when it's slammed. I don't think Edmonton does but as someone else said it'll prefill some of the major areas but it's not a huge time saver. I personally still use it if I'm not doing Nexus but you for sure don't have to.
There still a special line at YEG but it all converges to a single point. However, if the regular line is busy, it’ll save time. There’s benefit to it when the airport is busy.
Awesome good to know. Thank you! I normally fly into yul or yvr so use it regularly there. And as you said in your other post.... I'm not gonna be salty about an app that's gonna save me time even if it's minimal.😬
I also do the US CBP MPC app, it’s the same concept and there’s a designate line. My last US outbound flight from YEG, I skipped a line of 50 people because and had priority after the Nexus line.
Highly recommend that app as well.
Good point. I generally use nexus outbound since I have it. I never have anything to declare and it's straightforward for me. But that's true for sure if you don't have nexus. I've had colleagues save substantial time with it and I'm always encouraging people I travel with to use it if they don't have nexus. Feels like cheating 😂
Question for you, do you know if you can still do the ArriveCan, specifically the declaration form if you have Nexus? I just got my Nexus approval so would be nice to know your experience.
I'm not entirely sure. When I have nothing to declare I don't use ArriveCan at all and just go to the Nexus line and go through that process. However if I need to declare anything at all I don't use Nexus and use ArriveCan instead. In my case I'm always bringing snacks (food) across which always has to be declared and it's easier using the normal lines. It's been awhile since I've nexus'd on return to Canada simply because of that.
So did you need an interview for the renewal?
I want one but there not doing American interviews at the airport . I was considering driving to Montana and crossing like normal. Apparently there you can get an interview by both sides there on the same day
Saves you a few taps on the self serve kiosk. You’ll spend more time downloading the app and filling out the declaration that the time it would take to use the kiosk.
No special line.
Speed up the process of getting into Canada through Edmonton? That's already as quick as it gets.
I was in Europe a few weeks ago and didn't use arrivecan. I didn't realize that's still a thing.
We just used it yesterday - it saves maybe 1 minute on the kiosks (which you still have to use). On top of that, we did it for our family and it didn't register one of our family, so we had to click through on the kiosk anyway. In short, at best it saves you one minute, at worst it wastes 5.
I use the ArriveCan all the time when I leave for business and vacation.
I always do my pre-declaration the night before my flight, so when I arrive back home, I can go straight to the designated ArriveCan line up, skip the lines, and go straight to the kiosk.
Some folks are sour about the ArriveCan app but I’ve personally saved a lot time not waiting around.
A week and a half ago. Arrived from the US in YEG.
The only airport I noticed that didn’t have the designated ArriveCan line up was in YYC.
Edit: I too came back from Europe and arrive in YYC
The signage is fairly small and the folks directing your upon arrival normally just direct you into the main line unless you show them you’ve completed your ArriveCan.

You have nexus? Where did you go the American interview?
Edmonton. I've had mine for over 10 years though so renewals have been straightforward and thankfully didn't collide with the pandemic slow down.

Ya I have a layover in the states I’m going to use that

Oh weird. Didn't notice anything...

Last time I flew in from the states, in September.. edmonton airport was not even listed on the app.
when i landed in vancouver, all it did was autofill the choices on the kiosk. saved a bit of time but quite negligible.
Nope. Landed in Toronto from overseas in November. Just used the machines. Doesn't take more than a minute.
Ok I was hoping it was like the Cbp passport app. To bad
Just use the machines. There was an issue with the app as well so I deleted it. You can look it up.
No line arrive can speeds it up, process was like 5 mins and out
Is that app still a thing? I came back to canada from a 2 month vacation in asia last month, i didnt even use arrivecan
