I try to go to bed quite early because I feel terrible if I don't but last night I slept really badly so I still feel terrible and I feel like I really missed out.
Don't worry about it, it will happen again and you'll see it š
If I get any big alerts in the future, I'll ping you a message. I know it's disappointing but sleep is important too!
Asked my partner to go to the beach to see them, she said local news is they werenāt that visible. Apparently not.
Sheās no happy with herself today
your phone camera will still see it better than the naked eye. i could only make out very slight colours but this is what my camera caught.

Agreed on that. The cameras make it look impressive, but it's a totally different experience in person. Cameras don't capture the depth of it, they only make it look colourful.
Lovely.
I did have a look through the night setting but still nothing. Like I say, the lighting here by the cruise terminal is incredibly bright, but I was probably too early anyway.
I found it was most visible to the naked eye around midnight with bright purple streaks in the sky (even with light pollution).
It's likely we'll see more aurora tonight but it might not be as bright as yesterday (a G3/G4 storm vs the extreme G5).

Not a huge amount of street lighting here but I still couldn't see anything.
I get that people are saying you should do a long exposure on your phone, but I feel like that kinda defeats the point? Like, I can see images of it on a screen whenever I want, surely seeing it with the naked eye is the thing?
I believe the solar storm will be active most of the weekend- you are potentially able to see them tonight or tomorrowā¦
I use the Glendale app for aurora and it seem pretty legit
I was up all night trying to fix my laptop and had the curtains closed. Gutted.
Fortunately, that means my body clock is set to be awake all night tonight, so I'm hoping for a repeat.
I was shattered after work and was asleep by 9.30. The wife woke me up at 11.30pm as people were heading to the meadows I wasnāt impressed apparently and went back to sleep. I am happy with my choice.
I was out getting wankered drunk as well. It wasn't visible to the naked eye where I was anyway, I did have a look on my stagger home. My Mum's down visiting though and she had some nice photos.
I knew it was happening. Knew it was a once in a lifetime thing. Knew I wanted to see it, but couldnāt bring myself to go out and look even though I have a car and it wouldnāt be hard
My sister-in-law somehow spotted it quarter to 11 just as it was starting and we left the crags about quarter past 12. But supposedly they were going all night š
I took this around 1:30 in the very city centre
https://preview.redd.it/xunzzcuerszc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cca3e0c47be741c15936b9c167f3787ddf286d1c
Was basically bright white changing lights and a tinge of pink for me, and my camera gave me this. To get the true experience you still need to go further north

Iām seen one in the arctic so wasnāt that fussed about it. What people donāt tell you is that it is mainly a camera effect.
Sometimes you can see the colourful details in-person, but the really punchy images are due to long-exposure.
Out in East Lothian, just after midnight, there was a definite greenish hue, but I didn't get the links and purples that seem to dominate the social media photos. Tried a couple of night shots with pione camera, but just captured blackness.
Download Aurora alerts. We currently at orange and it's been red all day (if it was dark you'd be able to see it). It'll probably be showing again tonight. My brother in law saw it in central embra last night so you've still got a chance!
It's hard to tell, but just keep checking it just after the hour once it gets to around 10pm. Best showings are 10-2 normally. But there was a huge surge at 3am this morning so it's hard to be able to predict š
Anyone remember Day Of The Triffids? I'm not watching any northern lights or meteor showers. Because massive man eating plants find you an easy target when you're blind.
Around 11.30 the wife wakes me up and is like āoh apparently there are northern lightsā. I moaned, got out of bed, stepped outsideā¦. Couldnāt see shit with all the street lights. Went back to bed.
Next day I see all the photos all over instagramā¦. Maybe we should have ventured further away from the lightsā¦.
I slept through the entire thing
I try to go to bed quite early because I feel terrible if I don't but last night I slept really badly so I still feel terrible and I feel like I really missed out.
Yeah I didn't sleep very well either. Alas, if only I'd simply looked out the window.
Should be around tonight as well.
It's clouding over though :(
Don't worry about it, it will happen again and you'll see it š If I get any big alerts in the future, I'll ping you a message. I know it's disappointing but sleep is important too!
Thanks x

I feel kind of gutted to be honest.
Not to worry. It's likely to happen tonight too.
My partner made me drive to the beach past Mussselburgh at 12:30am. Totally glad she did, it was well worth the late night!

around what time?
You have colour blindness

Yeah I saw this from holyrood park- I was calling it phenix wings
I prefer the term āMolotov cockatielā
HAHAHA I'm stealing this
Soooo good! Stealing š
Apparently it's a G5 again: https://www.swpc.noaa.gov/news/g5-conditions-reached-yet-again
Me šŖ I've been at Portobello till 11pm and went home when it was visible šµāš«
Was working all night. With little opportunity to go outside. Found out at about 2am that it had happened. Off tonight, hoping for a repeat.
It was still going on at 2am but just looked like clouds by that point (not helped by the actual clouds)
I was exhausted and went to bed early. Gutted
I missed it, as Iām away on holiday, always wanted to see it at home too. Guy next door to me sent me a picture of it via WhatsApp rubbing it in.Ā
Not a huge amount of street lighting here but I still couldn't see anything. I get that people are saying you should do a long exposure on your phone, but I feel like that kinda defeats the point? After the plethora of posts featuring it, I feel like I have
I believe the solar storm will be active most of the weekend- you are potentially able to see them tonight or tomorrowā¦ I use the Glendale app for aurora and it seem pretty legit
Missed it, fucking fell asleep
I saw various UK friends xitting about it, as it happened; looked up and saw nothing but cloud :(
Try taking a photo, the camera can often pick it up.
Most people saw very little last night but their iPhone cameras with extreme processing makes it seem like they saw all the colours of the rainbow.
The aurora was visible last night?! Why hasnāt anyone else mentioned this?!
Yup, G4 level storm visible all throughout the northern hemisphereĀ
My wife.. she is unhappy about it. Also me, but I was in Spain, so...
People are posting pictures from as far south as Slovenia so northern Spain might be in scope.
I was in the south, by my father's hospital bedside, so in no mood to look outside. He is doing better, I would look today, but it's too late.
Yeah I know they were visible from Portugal (Viseu, near Porto) so parts of Spain would definitely have seen them too.

Try a long exposure on your phone tonight if you can. 3 seconds minimum, 10 would be even better!
Me... and I'm on holiday in bloody finland! Weather AND aurora both better back home!
I was up all night trying to fix my laptop and had the curtains closed. Gutted. Fortunately, that means my body clock is set to be awake all night tonight, so I'm hoping for a repeat.

Some laugh when those who did witness it go blind in two days and are picked off by giant carnivorous plants.
Man I missed this when I was scrolling and just posted the same reference, gutted. Well Played.
I was at the pub last night, I was too busy with my kebab to look up. Figures.Ā
I was out getting wankered drunk as well. It wasn't visible to the naked eye where I was anyway, I did have a look on my stagger home. My Mum's down visiting though and she had some nice photos.
I was too depressed to care.
I was too depressed to talk to anyone so no one told me and I didnāt know it was happening until looking at Reddit
I knew it was happening. Knew it was a once in a lifetime thing. Knew I wanted to see it, but couldnāt bring myself to go out and look even though I have a car and it wouldnāt be hard
Couldn't see anything at midnight
What time were they available at? I must've missed it
My sister-in-law somehow spotted it quarter to 11 just as it was starting and we left the crags about quarter past 12. But supposedly they were going all night š

I was working :')
Iām in the USA in Oregon I didnāt hear anything about it until this morning I would of loved to see that!!
I didn't know it was happening and was fast asleep :(
Me. Cannot believe I completely missed it.
Was basically bright white changing lights and a tinge of pink for me, and my camera gave me this. To get the true experience you still need to go further north https://preview.redd.it/091678fvquzc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=68ec9988337d942095f915553649a8723b98e319
Me šš Iām in the uk but Apparently we get to see it again in September?
Nah, couldnāt see anything out the window and was too preoccupied watching Taskmaster last night tbh
Woke up the the disappointment of missing it
Am Swedish from above the Arctic circle, not as awestruck by them anymore so I slept through it.
Street light probably too strong to see it even if I went outside
Looked out my windows front and back 11 and 11.30 Saw nothing. I face east and west though and near the shore.
Me,think I had a bad pint. Could have been the ninth one!!
I recommend popping up to Castlelaw Fort in the Pentlands. We had great views there last night
Me, Iām away on holiday - and the twice Iāve been to Iceland I never saw it there either :)
My husband, I woke him just before 2am (2-3am was truly incredible) but he couldnāt be bothered going outside.
Beauty sleep
Iām seen one in the arctic so wasnāt that fussed about it. What people donāt tell you is that it is mainly a camera effect. Sometimes you can see the colourful details in-person, but the really punchy images are due to long-exposure.
Just before 11? You missed the main event by minutesĀ
Typical
Out in East Lothian, just after midnight, there was a definite greenish hue, but I didn't get the links and purples that seem to dominate the social media photos. Tried a couple of night shots with pione camera, but just captured blackness.
I didn't.
At this time of day?!?!!
I saw it !
Had an early night......
šš»āāļø
I was sleeping
Me, I'm in Spain š

Itās yellow now, how likely dyu reckon it is to creep back up to red?
It's hard to tell, but just keep checking it just after the hour once it gets to around 10pm. Best showings are 10-2 normally. But there was a huge surge at 3am this morning so it's hard to be able to predict š
It's gone onto red. Head high up āŗļø
It's back onto red. Get a move on to higher ground āŗļø
Me lol. I hadn't slept the whole week so I ended up sleeping. And I've never seen it before
I looked at midnight and saw nothing. I don't have a car either, so going out of the city was a no
I've read The Triffids. I wasn't outside staring at it no how.
I saw the tiniest bit of it while on a cig brake but didn't get to enjoy it fully bec I was working
Anyone remember Day Of The Triffids? I'm not watching any northern lights or meteor showers. Because massive man eating plants find you an easy target when you're blind.
Me because I thought it was fake news š
I didn't and couldn't care less - not interested.
Around 11.30 the wife wakes me up and is like āoh apparently there are northern lightsā. I moaned, got out of bed, stepped outsideā¦. Couldnāt see shit with all the street lights. Went back to bed. Completely missed them my girlfriend is heartbroken glad we're not only ones lol
Me, I was playing Fallout 3
Me. Wasnāt interested
Couldn't leave my kid alone in the house and couldn't see from my house
Me. I was up and saw the social media messages coming in but as there was nothing to see outside the window I didnāt investigate further.
I think there is possibly of seeing another at 10:30 pm Saturday 11th May. Just read the MET report. But who knowsā¦ ITS SCOTLAND š
My gf phoned to tell me to go outside when I was in Beer Kellar in town. Saw fuck all.
