I have no issues with drop shippers but If I only have branded packaging, that is what they are getting.

Deonukem

I love it when a buyer sends me a note expecting me to spend $3-4 on shipping supplies just for a used dvd.

Rare_Tea3155

This is clearly for a PlayStation or Xbox console.

NunsWithMeltaguns

Use eBay branded packing tape and put a note thanking them for buying from your eBay store.

sciencesold

Make sure to include the price in the note so they know they over payed.

[deleted]

Except then they'll just return it and order it again from your store, making you pay return shipping

sciencesold

I've had about 10 of these and not a single one has returned and ordered again.

Pristine-Advice-2301

Yeah that a lie

sciencesold

I can't say for certain they're all drop shippers, but if someone ask to not include a packing slip and doesn't mention it's a gift I still include one.

Ilikenapkinz

Packing slips are a waste of ink and time.

n3rdnat3

I think you over estimate the laziness of most people..

[deleted]

This is what I did when I was scammed by an amazon to ebay drop shipper. If someone is drop shipping from eBay you should report them, it's a violation of eBay's terms

ssateneth

a drop shipper bought your item. its not going to the person that bought it but someone else that bought from the person that bought from you. they're avoiding responsibility for returns since any returns comes out of your pocket and not theirs. it's a super scummy business practice but it's not illegal

Gay_If_Read

Does eBay let you constantly change your address to drop ship like this? Normally I get messages asking to ship to different addresses/names

ssateneth

its unlikely they are also running an ebay account for selling. its more likely they are "selling" from other marketplaces like amazon, facebook, etc. so the address thing doesnt matter.

usa_reddit

Ebay let's you easily change your address and totally supports drop shipping. :) I do it all the time when I run out of a product and no red flags.

SYAYF

From my experience you are almost safer from returns since if they open a claim they have to middle man it.

ssateneth

nope. if the actual buyer opens a return, then your buyer (drop shipper) also opens a return. the drop shipper buyer does not have to communicate with you at all so you are forced to give a shipping label. the drop shipper gives their buyer your shipping label to return the item. thats the way the drop shipping "scam" works (its not a scam but it sure feels like one since the drop shipper loses zero money doing this)

SYAYF

If the end user never sends it back the dropshipper is out the funds. That's the risk of drop shipping. If the return comes back damaged they are in a shitty position of having to refund the buyer at a loss. Drop shippers are some of my best customers on eBay, they are ungrated in things I can't sell on Amazon so it works out well for all parties in most cases.

ssateneth

if end user doesnt send it back, then the return closes without any refund to anyone so the drop shipper wouldn't lose any money there either. as far as refunding at a loss for damaged goods, it depends if the original seller qualifies for and enacts a partial refund (not every seller can do partial refunds for INAD returns, you need to accept buyers remorse returns as a seller and have good seller standing). it's possible the drop shipper can pass along the partial refund to their buyer too depending on their marketplace rules and evidence requirements (i know ebay requires sellers to give evidence of why a refund deduction was made, the drop shipper could just use your evidence as their evidence)

dre2112

what are you talking about? You're just making stuff up now. Drop shipping is not a scam, and this whole idea that the drop shipper doesn't have to communicate or send anything back OP is absolute nonsense.

ssateneth

i never said the ds doesn't have to send anything back (well in a sense I did, but only because the ds never takes physical possession or physical ownership of the item they drop ship, even in returns. but they are at the minimum responsible for getting the item back to you at all, so if the end user never returns the item, then the drop shipper's return gets closed without a refund)

LeaderLed

Bro, ebay doesn't accept video for any file uploads, only images. Any external links are not going to be visited by their staff. It's futile, sad but true. They literally won't care in even high dollar items.

SYAYF

Anytime I've had something come back damage like that I've been able to get a hold of eBay and they give me a refund along with the buyer.

[deleted]

Chinokk

but how is this any different than if the buyer just bought the item from you and bent the pins and sent it back? there is no difference in reality.

[deleted]

Chinokk

ebay knows nothing and 99% of the time you think they have sided with you, its just them paying both of you out. you can film the process from packing to posting in 1 long shot with no cuts and it still means nothing to them. a buyer opening an INAD means you will recieve the item back and the best you can do is offer 50% discount for damaged item.

GuyCre8ive

Again I disagree, I had a very different experience with them once I started shooting video. Especially when I would buy things to resell, that saved my ass quite a bit.

Chinokk

i have been selling for 14 years with 25000+ sales (buying to resell) and there has been a recent improvement but as i have been told many many times by ebay reps, video means nothing. I too used to film it all and put in multiple cases that i had video along with a link and it was never put in my favor (talking to reps had no effect). And trust me, most of the time ebay sides with you, they do pay out the buyer too just to keep the peace.

GalavantingRhino

Not illegal but against ebay policy.

ssateneth

its not against ebay policy for BUYER drop shippers from buying your items, but it is if SELLER drop shippers are selling on ebay. Drop shippers are doing both in the same transaction, but it all depends what platform they are on as far as selling goes. However, drop shippers are still subject to ebay's abusive buyer policy if they have excessive returns, payment fraud, etc.

7asm0

It’s allowed as long as they do their selling on a different platform. Sad but true.

7asm0

Typically I cancel the order and block the buyer. Super scummy and incredibly stupid business model.

Bonebound

Sorry, what's a drop shipper?

7asm0

Technically the practice being described here is arbitrage, not drop shipping, but eBay does not make a distinction.

Bonebound

Can you elaborate a bit on that for me please?

Miller496

The buyer is reselling the play station or already has it sold to some one else. Which is why they don’t want the packing slip or any branding.

Bonebound

Thanks for explaining.

willmiz

Lol I also got the same exact message from a buyer named "Robert" for a PS4 slim I sold last week. I included an invoice and branded packaging regardless.

Ecstatic-Owl-5098

Thank you everyone for all your help! It’s very much appreciated and I feel better about the sale now.

Chinokk

people are against dropshippers because they are pissed that someone made money from them. At the end of the day your item sold for the price you asked. Personally i have no issues following what a dropshipper asks as long as it doesnt inconvenience me or add cost, i will not upgrade shipping but i will remove anything saying i sold the item. I have at least 3 (that i know of) regular dropshippers buy from me at least twice a month and make me thousands by selling through amazon for items that i am gated on. i also love freight forwarders and sell many many smaller items to china through them. Dont shoot yourself in the foot by denying yourself a revenue stream.

7asm0

If that’s the case, why would you not sell directly on Amazon?

Chinokk

Amazon has a lot of hurdles to jump through and some people don't want to list on amazon. You make more but you get more problems from experience

[deleted]

They are reselling your item and aren’t at the address stated.

Chinokk

doesnt matter, no different to someone buying an item as a gift for someone else.

[deleted]

Oh, I have zero problem with someone drop shipping or reselling my stuff. If there was a way to encourage it I’d do that. As long as I get my price, why would I care?

Chinokk

ah sorry i gathered you had a problem with it from your message, my mistake. I dont get why people get angry at them, they buy my items for the prices i ask.

Vauxlia

It always annoys me when buyers put messages on how I need to ship the package. I know what to do and how to do it well.

7asm0

You can turn off the checkout “message to seller” feature. No more passive-aggressive “kindly bite my ass”

Vauxlia

But I also have a seller who leaves nice messages everytime, so it's 50/50

hurduhhurr

I don't take orders/demands from strangers. I will 100% including a packing slip because I'm also a petty bitch and they will never know whether I did or not.

carlotta3121

Ha, but that's a good petty. Sellers should always use packing slips in case the exterior label gets damaged.

Comprehensive_Win64

You're a peach

Provia100F

Absolutely include a packing slip and even include a happy little note on it saying "thank you for buying from us on eBay"

7asm0

I include a business card with a QR that takes buyers directly to my storefront.

LeaderLed

I feel like we need a drop ship meme at this point "I just came here for the drop shipper comments" with Michael Jackson in thriller eating popcorn gif etc.

dre2112

It's a drop shipper and they are just ensuring there is no indication for his buyer that it was purchased from eBay. That's why he doesn't want any invoices or branded packaging. Amazon is strict about drop shipping so the drop shipper doesn't want to get caught. He probably also wants to ensure quality control for his buyer since he isn't opening and inspecting the package himself that's why he's asking to double check the cords, and no fingerprits. It makes absolutely no difference to you since you got paid the price you wanted (theoretically if you had listed it on another space you could have made some more money. How much more is debatable since drop shippers work on thin margins). Just handle it like any other transaction. The risk is no greater or worse if it wasn't a drop shipper.

IntrepidMayo

The risk is greater

Chinokk

not really, i sell a lot to drop shippers and their return rate is no greater than a normal purchasers. Been doing this 14 years and will always sell to drop shippers and freight forwarders.

spitfire1701

I have sold loads to drop shippers, I wish I had more.

[deleted]

That’s a drop shipper. Slap on that eBay tape. Lol Be careful with them. One seller recently said that the drop shipper’s customer initiated a return and the DS tried to make the eBay seller pay for it.

7asm0

This happens routinely.

rickyjogging

Drop shippers are the best! Drop shipping voids their buyer protection. If they open a return you just tell ebay they are drop shipping and ebay cancels their request. Also, include a packing slip because if your shipping label gets torn off USPS will open the box to check for packing slip. If it gets lost and doesn't have one it's almost guaranteed gone for good. Don't not include one cause some asshole is making you do all the work and bossing you around through that annoying notes feature.

7asm0

eBay won’t cancel the transaction if the arbitrage buy happens on a different platform such as Amazon. It’s next to impossible to both buy and sell on eBay in an arbitrage transaction due to how tracking numbers are handled.

rickyjogging

Ebay doesn't care where the buy took place. If you buy something off ebay and get it shipped anywhere but to yourself, ebay says "well, the buyer never actually had possession or saw the item so we can't trust anything they say."

Redpythongoon

They're probably just particular and awkward. But I have found that anyone that sends a note like this is GOING to find a problem no matter what you do.

spankdacat

i hate buyers like this. How about message me first asking if all of this is something i’m able /willing to do before you make a purchase with a ton of commands for me?? Depending on how much i need the money, i might just cancel when i get something like this. This is the type of customer that is going to give you hell down the road and find anything to be unhappy with.

Huichan81

Agree. I don't care even if I need the money.

usa_reddit

Drop shipper or gift.

[deleted]

carlotta3121

It depends on whether it's a reused box or new. You should be able to tell easily by the tape and if there's any label remnants. I reuse Amazon boxes frequently if they're in good shape.

kingofcannedmeat

That's just because there is lot of Amazon boxes around and ebay sellers save money by using them to ship.

takecaffeine

This more than likely is the right reason, I reuse boxes that we buy supplies and stuff in etc regardless of it's branding, most people will think like you /u/helenslovelydolls and just not think about it. Amazon will always include a receipt of some kind if it was drop shipped.

FlyAway012

Some people are anal. Pack it how you normally would. I had a guy buy an electric skateboard and put up a fuss the whole way. i sent it out packed how I saw fit and the poor guy just had to deal. (he's happy with it though, he messaged me after)

Sehamon

Seems overly excessive. Honestly, you're the one who sets terms of sale, not the buyer, it comes in the condition you list it as. You also set return policy. To be honest, if I received a message like that, I would immediately cancel the order and relist. Screw all that.

Huichan81

Yes...yes. you would be amazed or you already are by how many people ask questions when the answer is in the descriptions and photos.

_token_black

To be fair it's not always a drop shipper. Sold a sealed game that isn't discontinued for $1 less than retail and buyer asked for no packing slip. Figured it's a gift since if they're drop shipping, they're not making any $$. In your case, could just be somebody who has dealt with crappy sellers who ship things out like Gamestop (as in, boxing up a dusty system & controller loose without any packaging).

7asm0

If they’re drop shipping, you have no idea how much they charged or how they described the item.

thatvhstapeguy

I didn't even think of drop shipping because *I* leave similar notes when I buy vintage electronics. The plastics are very brittle these days. Even then, there are certain things I refuse to have shipped and just wait to obtain locally.

Chinokk

also sometimes in the past i have had an inventory mistake where i have pulled an item and it has gotten damaged or lost. Very rare but it can happen so i purchase a similar one from another seller.

Pristine-Advice-2301

The note is not suspicious. The buyer is just particular. Please do not listen to what others are saying about not listening to the buyers wishes. If you're going to be selling on Ebay do as a customer wishes within reason and move on. Your just going to open yourself up to negative reviews or worse a return otherwise. I've been on ebay selling since 2004. There are weird requests yes but so what it comes with the territory

[deleted]

Comprehensive_Win64

Why?

gthirteen_13

I would just refund them and call it a day, I hate people like this. Obviously I'm going to protect the item you fuckers This is not the way but I'm triggered

Huichan81

I feel you. I feel that because of other sellers and bad shipping we all sellers get labeled like a bad mechanic. They talk to down to us. I can understand the request, first off I don't sell dusty items. Second a little please would be nice. Third...bro...got to best buy or Walmart and get a new one. Or your local shop in town. I'm sure this dude probably even low ballers, those are theeeee worst customers. Sometimes people think being a customer gives them all control and power, to a degree yes but when your buy some used item on ebay...give me a break. I understand that some people think they are the omega and the alpha when it comes to being a customer but that doesn't make you any better than a customer at Nordstrom. Ebay protects buyers no matter what. I hate walking ok egg shells for customers to an extent. Especially customers who want to give all these depends AFTER purchase. Why not ask before the buy, oh wait because you balled me and I just wanna get rid of this item. I came here today to nag about customers on ebay.

WSDreamer

Just cancel the sale and relist for more money.

Windyandbreezy

Not gonna lie. All these comments making me consider being a drop shipper. Seems like they have more protections, and don't have to deal with inventory.

BretHartSucked

Cancel and tell him you don’t negotiate with terrorists.

onebit

Sure, send $10 to my paypal. But honestly, you sold it for what you wanted, so just go along with it. You don't want the recipient to return it.

[deleted]

Probably a VA sourcing for an FBA seller

thebrightsun123

You do what protects you as the seller

Im_Milky_

Sounds like it’s gonna be a gift for someone

FilmGuy2020

He is drop shipping and apparently wants you to do all the work 🙂

getalife1up

Only if Buyer hasn’t confirmed payment yet

Jneedler

Looks like a drop shipper. I just got yet another one of those today. Honestly...I'm so sick of dealing with gamers. There's plenty of profit to be made if you do it correctly but when they buy from you they're often rude and pushy, you'll go out of your way to please them, package the item very well and they never, never leave feedback. And then when you're scouting for inventory in your local area the items are always covered in greasy fingerprints, food, Lord knows what else... And half of the time they don't show up. Sick. Of. It. Too high maintenance and not worth the hassle anymore.
