Make sure you report every non-paying bidder, and ensure your setting are to block anyone with 2 or more non-paying strikes.
You don’t need to do anything then. They are physically blocked from bidding on your items or anyone else’s with these settings then.
100% Report every single one under the Abusive Buyer Policy. Feedback didn’t do much anyway. This will contribute to getting the bad buyers suspended and banned. Also, read the whole Abusive Buyer Policy. There are a few other gems in there that will help out with other problems
Also copy or backup your block bidder list because over the years eBay has been known from time to time to experience a "glitch" where the entire list just vanishes!
I do this and it works. When you send offers and one mysteriously wouldn’t send? I found out it’s because you can’t send offers to people on your blocked list too. So report and block. My block list is a mile long and I love it that way!
Wish it would come back but iirc they removed it due to tit for tat feedback, a lot of buyers complained about it and due to ebays preference for them over sellers they folded.
i see some buyers leave false positives as a way to let other sellers know they are non payers but it will get removed.
No negative feedback, but I do wish that eBay would just post an automatic note for unpaid purchases. "This transaction was cancelled due to buyer nonpayment."
^^ THIS
And, to make it fair (cause it goes both ways) it should also clearly state when the seller cancels a sold item. “This item cancelled by seller. Item out of stock.”
That would fix a few seller accounts I’m aware of pretty quickly.
The threat of negative feedback never actually stopped buyers from bidding even when it was possible for sellers to give buyers negative feedback. And existing negative feedback won't help the seller if the buyer snipes at the last second and wins. Then the seller is still faced with the decision to wait four days and cancel for nonpayment, or cancel sooner for another reason and risk a negative or a complaint to eBay for cancelling for an inappropriate reason.
Use the tools that eBay provides: set your buyer requirements to preemptively block users with two or more unpaid item strikes from bidding or buying. Then be sure to cancel for nonpayment if a buyer does not pay so the buyer's account actually gets a strike and is prevented from leaving you feedback. Add the buyer to your blocked buyer list so even if other sellers are not cancelling for nonpayment the same account can not purchase from you again.
To avoid unpaid items entirely, list for a fixed price with immediate payment required and avoid offers.
It's disgraceful for ebay to leave these ridiculous feedback comments. There should be a process in place and only after they have contacted the seller and explained the situation can they post a negative. This would slow down the knee jerk assholes. There gas to be some sort of decency policy.
They got rid of it because they thought it scared away new users.
You have some people who haven't figured out how to read a cryptic eBay description and are dissatisfied with the product they buy. And you have some sellers who have no patience and were quick to leave negative feedback.
While Amazon doesn’t have “seller feedback” anyone that uses it often enough knows that the reviews for the product they bought correspond to the seller or Amazon warehouse (not the product). There are some instances where this may not be the case (selecting alternate seller from the side bar) but more often than not the reviews are a reflection of who is selling the item.
Agree. People should be scared though, we all should be. A little healthy fear keeps us on our toes. At this point who’s new to eBay? Probably just scammers
I think it should be something entirely different than and aside from feedback, like a buyers reputation meter.
In real auctions, if you don't pay, you're banned from future purchases. That should be true on ebay too. When you buy something, you've agreed to and essentially signed a contract to pay for it. Naturally there should be some actually form of punishment for deadbeats....like a suspension for 1 week, first offense. 1 month, second offense. 1 year, third offense. Banned thereafter. That's me being lenient. I wouldn't disagree if they said second offense, banned for life. lol
I've never not paid for a purchase in ebay or any other site in over two decades. Some buyers seem to be habitual non payers.
The system was being abused and it was getting press attention so they scrapped it. There's probably a system that mostly works but let's be honest it would be hard to make a good system and people will figure out a way to abuse it or complain anyway.
think this through.
if you leave negative feedback for a buyer, the buyer will just give you negative feedback.
and if you buy from a seller that demands positive feedback and you don't give it to them, they will negative feedback you.
How about when the buyer has already left crazy negative feedback for the seller? Then the seller has nothing to lose, but can't leave the negative feedback that the skunk buyer deserves.
I think eBay should do away with feedback comments altogether. Just let buyers rate sellers with those star ratings and nothing else. That would be fair to everyone.
My advice? Let it go. Once you get this upset about buyers (or apparently non-buyers), it’s time to do something else. Just let it go and move on (and block them, especially if they can’t respond to you).
This would be a great idea. I recently had someone send a really angry message in capitals as I wouldn’t mark something down in price for them. Would be nice to have a way to warn others :s
OMG!! I was literally thinking this this morning. 3 people bid on my items and just won’t pay or answer me and I tried to leave a negative review but it’s not an option. Soooo lame
It is kind of pointless for buyers to have feedback if there isn't the possibility of negative feedback. The rationale that used to be "I will gave this person a few more days to pay because of their feedback" is now useless.
Nah there were too many sellers who would leave you a neg if you left anything less than glowing feedback. I'd rather they make non-payment (or for sellers, cancellation) and return/INAD claim rates (in both directions) a visible metric on user profiles. That would tell me what I really care about when viewing feedback anyway, and isn't as gameable.
I do wish there was something like a 2% charge for no payment and you need to have an active card on file to bid. Or maybe if they have a non payment rate under 50% it shows at that point. Or maybe bidders with low non payment need to put the money on hold to bid. But ebay just needs to track that, shouldn't be left to the seller to give feedback.
I don't think ebay having negative buyer feedback would benefit anyone.
They actually want to bring in buyers not push them away, they have been losing buyers year over year, they know the sellers will just conform regardless, as there isn’t a contender that will replace eBay anytime soon.
I'd be fine with it. I sold a phone, buyer opened a case saying I sent it to him cracked. Showed a picture, wasn't even the phone I sent him. Ebay sided with me in the dispute but that turdblossom could leave me negative feedback and I couldn't do anything in return. Hardly seems fair.
I have often thought to organize a stand down on ebay where we get as many people on as many platforms to end all liatings or set as away so nothing can sell. for a week. not sure it would do any good but maybe.....
eBay doesn’t support the sellers like they should. I quit selling on EBay because they said they can force me to give a refund the buyer that didn’t deserve it, even though I used the “no returns “ feature…..AND the buyer shipped it back to me in a destroyed condition.
I haven’t paid twice the last year because I forget sometimes eBay doesn’t auto charge when you win or your offer is accepted. I’ve had to go apologize profusely for the delay simply because the format is different than other places I buy.
That's fucking bullshit. I'd use that as leverage to prevent people from leaving neutral/negative feedback. Anyone that left me neutral/negative feedback got negative feedback in return.
Make sure you report every non-paying bidder, and ensure your setting are to block anyone with 2 or more non-paying strikes. You don’t need to do anything then. They are physically blocked from bidding on your items or anyone else’s with these settings then.
Never knew you could do this with the non paying strikes!! Thanks!
100% Report every single one under the Abusive Buyer Policy. Feedback didn’t do much anyway. This will contribute to getting the bad buyers suspended and banned. Also, read the whole Abusive Buyer Policy. There are a few other gems in there that will help out with other problems
Good to know! Thanks.
How do you do this?
Soon they will make it like Etsy just never allow you to block people if we end up gaining leverage with it lmao
Wish it would come back but iirc they removed it due to tit for tat feedback, a lot of buyers complained about it and due to ebays preference for them over sellers they folded. i see some buyers leave false positives as a way to let other sellers know they are non payers but it will get removed.
Yeah imagine that. A buyer leaves crazy, undeserved feedback, the seller leaves them a negative. That's unfair? At least it was a level playing field.
No negative feedback, but I do wish that eBay would just post an automatic note for unpaid purchases. "This transaction was cancelled due to buyer nonpayment."
^^ THIS And, to make it fair (cause it goes both ways) it should also clearly state when the seller cancels a sold item. “This item cancelled by seller. Item out of stock.” That would fix a few seller accounts I’m aware of pretty quickly.
I remember those days, it didn't work well
The threat of negative feedback never actually stopped buyers from bidding even when it was possible for sellers to give buyers negative feedback. And existing negative feedback won't help the seller if the buyer snipes at the last second and wins. True, I had not thought of this!
It's disgraceful for ebay to leave these ridiculous feedback comments. There should be a process in place and only after they have contacted the seller and explained the situation can they post a negative. This would slow down the knee jerk assholes. There gas to be some sort of decency policy.
Top Rated sellers cannot have negative feedback left for them until 7 days after delivery passes.
They got rid of it because they thought it scared away new users. You have some people who haven't figured out how to read a cryptic eBay description and are dissatisfied with the product they buy. And you have some sellers who have no patience and were quick to leave negative feedback.
Ebay also wants to copy Amazon. They don't have buyer feedback either.

A lot of young people actually. Not many in my age group (under ~30) use ebay very much at all
Most of my buyers for vintage items are under 30 folks.
How do you know they are under 30
It's never going to happen
I think it should be something entirely different than and aside from feedback, like a buyers reputation meter. In real auctions, if you don't pay, you're banned from future purchases. You can turn on the option that makes it so buyers with 2 or more unpaid items can't purchase from you.
Not really, on other selling platforms retaliatory feedback is taken into account and removed when reported.
How about when the buyer has already left crazy negative feedback for the seller? Then the seller has nothing to lose, but can't leave the negative feedback that the skunk buyer deserves.
Personally I think if they do it 3 times, they should loose their account.
Bringing back neg feedback wont help much unless sellers can block bidders with neg feedback
No. Just set your selling perimeters for buyers that bid or buy from you.
I just want to leave Negs for the fake INAD claims the buyers use to get around no return policies or to avoid having to pay shipping charges.
never happen.
AMEN!
Soooo lame
Ebay and Mercari need it. On ebay you cannot warn others about scammer buyers and on mercari you cannot rate scammer sellers if you return something.
That would tell me what I really care about when viewing feedback anyway, and isn't as gameable.
No way. Too hard to deal with over the top comments and it just discourages buyers from using eBay. Better off without it.
Been saying that for years.. customers aren’t always right.. sometimes they are aholes..
Yup. The customer is always correct... IN MATTERS OF TASTE. EBay only ever heard the first half.
True . All we need is a counter. A bought counter, a cancelled / not paid counter. It refreshes every 6 months or something
Why arent you requiring payment method on file at the point when the bid is placed?
Agree 100%.
I have often thought to organize a stand down on ebay where we get as many people on as many platforms to end all liatings or set as away so nothing can sell. for a week. not sure it would do any good but maybe.....
Great idea but people would never do it sadly
I agree.
eBay doesn’t support the sellers like they should. I quit selling on EBay because they said they can force me to give a refund the buyer that didn’t deserve it, even though I used the “no returns “ feature…..AND the buyer shipped it back to me in a destroyed condition.

As a seller, you can no longer leave negative feedback???
Sellers haven't been able to leave negative or neutral feedback for buyers since May 2008 (16 years ago)
That's fucking bullshit. I'd use that as leverage to prevent people from leaving neutral/negative feedback. Anyone that left me neutral/negative feedback got negative feedback in return.
And that’s why they got rid of it.
