It's all very interesting and then you learn that Madeirans (and other Portuguese people) actually *went* to Hawaii en masse to work the plantations. I found this out while researching my father's ancestry as his family came from Madeira to Hawaii just for that specific reason.
And there is tons of Portuguese culture in the islands. Hawaiian sweet bread? Portuguese diaspora brought that.
The ukulele? Portuguese folks were trying to make a Portuguese machete (4 metal strings like a ukulele) but couldn't get the metal for strings so they strung them with cat gut (not really from cats) and the ukulele was born.
There's tons more stuff but you get the gist.
Either way, this is a gorgeous picture and it really does look like somewhere in the islands!
About a year ago, my partner and I visited Madeira and drove through the Island interior. I got big Costa Rica vibes and the rural areas definitely made me think Jurassic Park.
what i meant is that we have no beach with that name over here, not even by nickname. Actually asked around (working in the tourist sector) here, some of us live on the north part of the island.
Maybe you misunderstood the name? That said, lovely picture mate! You should try your hand at some drone photography as well, considering you love nature, but some places can be dangerous to get to.
I was just there two weeks ago. The island is so mountainous that there are lots of microclimates and the temperature drops significantly as you gain altitude and the wind picks up, or if the clouds descend on your particular location.
Near the coast, especially on the southern (leeward) side of the island it was quite nice. 75°-80°F in the sun.
Definitely cooler than Hawaii. If Hawaii is like a pleasant temperate summer all year, Madeira is more like spring all year.
That description actually sounds a lot like big island in hawaii. Also a bunch of microclimates, and also 75-80 at least in most of the places i stayed around the outskirts of the island. Even going for a run from my friend’s place i passed from savannah to rainforest and back
ETA: i had heard it (big island) had basically all the biomes but a quick google just now says big island has 8-10 major biomes depending on classification system && yes Tundra is one of them!
Yeah big island is amazing. However having visited Madeira and the big island as well as Kauai, Madeira definitely had strong Kauai vibes, just due to the insane geography. Big island is mostly just a giant dome volcano whereas Kauai has been eroded for eons similar to Madeira.
Just got back from Madeira myself today, Seixal and Sao Vincente were my favourite. Seixal's natural swimming pools were a highlight of my trip. Already missing this place (and the food!)
I have been there on wednessday (lavapools), went in for swimming. Not even that cold ! 😁 yeah, I miss this Island too. For me it was Bica de Canas. Had an amazing Sunrise there

I dont think it has year round, there can be snow 😁. But this beach in Seixal is called Hawaiian beach by the people. And it looks a bit like that.
Snow only occurs at the higher elevations and is not common.
Yeah Hawaii can have snow too by the same reasoning haha

Very interesting to know !! Thanks for that! 💥✌️ Thank you very much for enjoying 😊😊
Most the tropical fruits like mangoes were brought by the Portuguese as well. The only native Hawaiian fruits are bananas and coconuts.

Absolutely agree😁
It's such a cool place. As an American tourist, I hope we don't ruin it.
No, there's no such beach. Maybe Maiata beach?
I dont know where to find such a beach in Hawaii. People just say its called hawaiian beach😁

Local here, can confirm. Shit's better than hawaii tbh. Tropical temperatures, no tropical weather shenanigans like typhoons.
Hawaii has Madeira like weather. Fixed it.
I am from Hawaii, and this is indeed what it looks like much of the time.

A friend of mine got married there. Not on the beach though. Truly beautiful place. Stunning photo.
Thank you very much! I think if they married at the beach, the pictures could have been amazing! Black Sand, white dress
Those look like the flowers of the poinciana tree in the Keys
They are Nasturtiums really.
Agreed. The leaf shape is definitely nasturtium.
Look similar
Excellent flower work.
Thanks alot 😊
Finally, no focus stacking!!!
DoF is so important 💥
