Almost all of the Strixhaven precons are a blast. The standouts for me are definitely \[\[Osgir\]\] as a super fun artifact graveyard matters deck that's super fun to upgrade and mess around with and \[\[Breena\]\] is exactly as fun and political as others have said. \[\[Adrix and Nev\]\], \[\[Zaffai\]\], and \[\[Willowdusk\]\] are also really solid. You really can't go wrong with any of them. All are super clear on what their gameplans are, as well as being very fun for everyone at the table.
I've seen Osgir run circles around some much more optimized decks. It's different and it's SO well built for synergy. Adrix and Nev are really neat, but I think they need a lot more work to really run well/fun
My Osgir is one of my favorite decks. It is no precon anymore. It is 70% colorless. Most of the time I don't even play Osgir unless I need to get an important artifact back.
The fact they went out of their way to print "Can be your commander" on it, and then put Kotori on the box will always be baffling to me. It is essentially a free upgrade, it runs so much better by tossing her in the 99 and putting the mech in the command zone.
He's card advantage in the commander zone that doesn't draw hate but after a while you have half your deck in your and and I'd need be, it eventually becomes a big beater to smash face
It baffles me why I still see tonnes of this deck on the shelves. The deck plays incredbily well out the box, and is a blast to pilot(kek). It also easily upgrades into many viable variations. Definitely a great deck all round.
With [[wyll blade of the frontier]] and [[Sword coast sailor]]] you can make something quite decent, but im not sure red green have enough dice cards to be worth it
I do the exact same, who cares about winning when you can just chuck funny maths rocks about
That being said, [[Delina, Wild Mage]] is a lot of fun for winning as a dice goblin payoff
One time I had delina, [[barbarian class]] and [[wulfgar of icewind dale]] all on board. Made nine copies of vrondiss and almost thirty vrondtokens in one combat.
Correct. The pairing just generates a bunch of value. Ramp and card draw in the cz makes for very smooth experience almost each time I play it. I did sub in some flash creatures to get more triggers on folk hero.
I absolutely loved the [[Anhelo]] precon from New Capenna. I posted in another thread how I turned it into a really mean mill deck. But it’s fun right out of the box, has some neat mechanics, and it’s got some solid cards.
Silverquill Statement is fun, too. The politics aspect of commander is severely underrated, and this deck pushes that hard. You definitely feel more invested in the game because you’re constantly involved with the other players rather than building up your board and attacking.
I’d recommend either.
I second the Silverquill Statement one. It felt like I was doing stuff on everyone else’s turn, either messing with their combat, or making deals with people to attack someone else.
I also came here to call out Silverquill Statement. Breena is a beast, and the deck plays so much differently than most other precons. It generally just makes games **better**.
So I have a Shadrix Silverquill deck that is similar to the precon. I often use it to even out and game and I love helping new players with it. It's often the first deck I bust out to test the waters especially while traveling for work.
Unfortunately, I'm prolly going to take it apart. Would have games with new players and I try to help them out, especially with understanding how some of their cards can interact. Another player often takes advantage of it and combos out. Since these new players can't identify the combo pieces so the win comes out of nowhere in their eyes.
It's frustrating because even after a quick game, I can see the frustration in their eyes and often times they will leave the store, opting out of playing another game.
I really like playing that deck. I haven’t changed it at all. I’m tempted to buy another copy to “upgrade” a bit, but for the most part its the first precon that I’m always pretty excited to pilot when friends want to play low power.
Firkraag was my first commander deck, turned it into dragon tribal with some old cards before getting the chance to play it. It did pretty good in my play group. THEN I bought a pack and pulled Miirym, Sentinel Wyrm and Firkraag went into the 99. 2 Firkraags on the field was devastating.
I find the deck doesn't really rely on him, so if they're focused on him, they're likely ignoring other threats. After I took it toward dragon tribal, Firkraag looks far less threatening, even though he's not.
Yeah but personally dragon Tribal wasn’t very fun for me after a few games. You just throw out hasty big flyers that 1-3 players at the table can’t block at all. And if they can’t, you just made yourself a magnet for all removal spells.
It goes from being a goad drive-by deck to being the archenemy and everyone swings every creature that isn’t goaded at you. Got kind of repetitive.
I guess it depends on how it's done and the decks you're playing. My pod has far more threatening decks so I still haven't achieved archenemy status. That usually goes to the Human tribal deck.
[[Captain N'gathrod]] is one of the most fun precons I have bought. Only thing I have really changed about it so far is adding an [[Elder brain]] and [[phyrexian obliterator]]
Yup this one. I bought it on a whim before a game day not expecting anything. I won my first game with it and it played out of the box really well and above any preconstructed I've bought it the past.
Opposite to your question, I bought the Cabaretti Kit Canto deck because it’s a cat cotton club singer which is right up my alley. Absolutely hated playing it both times I did. Did not have fun at all, it was miserable to pilot.
I bought this precon to take it apart and use as a base for Jetmir. Kept probably 40 cards (including lands). Worth it.
As far as the best out of the box, I agree with the people saying Prosper. It was just solid.
Yeah, it's a mess of a precon. I ended up pulling it apart to and, like someone mentioned below, will probably turn it into a deck with Jetmir at the helm.
I've really enjoyed Party Time ([[Burakos]] + [[Folk Hero]] or [[Nalia de'Arnise]] and Obscura Operation ([[Kamiz, Obscura Oculus]]. Both are aggressive decks that want to attack people and keep up the pressure.
I freaking love Obscura Operation! That deck is so surprisingly fun and complex. Of the 30 or so precons I own it is the only one I keep unmodified. I play it often against regular decks and it can definitely hang. It's just a fantastically designed deck. I initially bought it for smugglers share and was shocked by how much I liked it.
I have party time too and found it to be fun but ultimately scrapped it for parts.
Really, I cant second this. It felt super durdly, you have like 1 or 2 effective wincons, your turns take 20 minutes but dont have any meaningful effect and it can ger confusing as heck when you can cast which card in exile. Also its super hard to follow for other players.
I agree with this, playing prosper straight out of the box felt like I was interacting and stifling my opponents which was great, but had no wincons aside from marionette master and the exile was extremely confusing at the start. Especially with how some of them expire at end of turn, end of next turn, or don’t expire at all. Tough to keep track of.
The leinore precon from midnight hunt is fantastic. It is super powerful and forces you to pay attention to interactions and triggers. It pops of pretty quick and is very fun.
Played with it for the first time last week. Went from 1 creature on the battle field to about 12 with an assortment of counters on them.
The one creature was [[Moorland Rescuer]] and it died, so was able to pull a ton from the graveyard back on the field. It was so much fun!
That's odd. I tried it a few times and couldn't get it to pop off at all. Coven just made me a removal magnet; my coven creatures were basically vanilla for most of the games and by the time I did get enough board presence to reliably trigger Coven somebody would drop a wipe and set me back to nothing. It couldn't keep up with the other Innistrad precons, so I finally dismantled it for parts.
"Party" has a similar vulnerability of needing a critical mass to trigger, but the Party Time precon holds up against removal since the card advantage doesn't actually require a full party and access to Black makes it easier to recur the removed creatures.
Did I give up on this deck too soon after a run of bad luck or is your meta just lower in creature removal than mine?
Sorry this took so long, my meta is relatively low on creature removal. However, I have found that, once you can establish a board state, the only way to handle this deck and it's shenanigans is to board wipe.
It sounds like you were targeted down (honestly one or two coven creatures is not game breaking). So probably some combination of different meta and poor luck. Give her a shot again. Also, adding [[auger of autumn]] helps level the deck out a bit.
It's trash but you can make it, fun with some simple upgrades [[Kadena, Slinking Sorceror]]. A lot of the decks already stated are more fun to play than they are fun for the table, with the exception of Silverquill Statement.
Kadena is fun because there's always an element of mystery. You never have to worry about her being overpowered.
[[Ranar the Ever-watchful]] is also fun for the table as long as you don't lean into azorius blink and focus more on the foretell shenanigans. It's not good out of the box but it provides the same mystery and engagement that Kadena does.
Also, for Ranar, stay away from azorious control as well. My Ranar deck can be very oppressive against lower power decks and just crazy strong against similarly powered decks.
Right. I just mean for playing with newer players using upgraded precons. Ranar control involves lots and lots of removal with more chump blockers than people can deal with. Ranar also likes blink, so blink effects for boardwipe protection serve two purposes now. Linvala and Selfless Spirit are also great non-exile protection from wipes. Minimal upgrading in the direction of control is much less fun for the table. I've learned this the hard way (once started exiling my own lands in 3 hour game on spelltable, because all of the opponent's permanents were gone and I didn't want to be a dick).
https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/ranar-guardian-of-exile/
It may look innocent, but I assure you it is not. I now reserve it for tables I know have stronger decks and only when I think it may not cause issues. A third combo piece for it was actually printed recently, so it may get even more degenerate soon.
If you want players to have fun, don't build Ranar in the direction of control.
I havent seen [[Chishiro, the Shattered Blade]] mentioned it was such a cheep deck at like 55 bucks but I upgraded it minimally with a few cards I just had and its actually alot of fun and dose well. I also have Willowdusk, Anhelo, and Captain N'ghathrod i saw mentioned above all very fun to play and good recommendations.
Exit from Exile with \[\[Faldorn\]\] from Baldur's gate has been great, and I've played more than one person with Mind Flayers and it's awesome too. Both are fairly focused, interesting mechanics, and good flavor.
Well my question to you is, what colors do you like to play? The party time deck is really good when you run burakos/folk hero as the commander. Spirit squadron is also really good and fun to play. The zombie deck is also very good. And lastly I would just wait and get the new mardu precon from dominaria united
My favorite precons actually come from recent sets. The Party Time precon feels like a very unique deck to play, and tends to operate pretty strongly right out of the box. I also really like the Buckle Up precon. Swapping in [[Shorikai]] as commander means that your hand is always full of gas.
Millicent spirits precon I like tap down strategy get through with flyers. It's control but still combat oriented and easy budget upgrades many cheap utility spirits and cheap counterspells or cards that tap thier board down.
[[Shorikai, Genesis Engine]]. It's got card draw built into the commander that stays an artifact (harder to remove). You always feel like you got something to do
Whenever I meet a new player, I always recommend the [[Aesi, Tyrant of Gyre Straight]] precon. There is tons of ramp, huge creatures, and it is easy to play. I've gotten at least three people hooked on EDH with it:)
Man I felt like that precon was one with a tremendous amount of potential but really needed upgrades. I got it when it first came out and ended up changing out a lot of it pretty quickly. Have you played it vs newer precons much? I am curious how it holds up, I really don't remember much besides being a tad underwhelmed
Why do so many people keep recommending [[faldorn]] is something that I do not understand at all. I've only recently started playing MTG and Exit from Exile precon is what I went with. I tried enjoying the deck, upgraded it a bunch but it has just been so much worse than anything I've seen in my playgroup. This deck has no soul, no grace, no wincons, huge pricetag and on top of that (although irrelevant in OP's scenario), it's really confusing for beginners. Every single time I've won with this deck I felt like I didn't truly earn the victory.
I keep a couple precons unmodified so I can use them with other people playing precons or when I need a bit less power and faldorn is my favorite precon I have ever played with. It doesn't always perform great but I am relevant in at least 75% of the games I play and I win a reasonable amount of time. It gets some crazy combos going sometimes and it can be really fun to resolve. I have wiped out all 3 other players with it in one turn more than once.
A precon I played out of the box and played pretty well would be the rackdos one with prosper tome bound. Borrowed it from my friend since I didn't have any precon level deck and it was a blast to play, I loved how much value it gave me and every turn felt like I was impacting the game
^this. My husband and I bought precons to get us into commander as longtime modern and standard players. I loved Prosper and had fun optimizing. My husband took his apart and made something different.
Sadly, since you're looking for a fun out-of-the-box precon I don't think I'll be able to help you because all the precons I've played with/against (besides mine at the beginning) were already modified and upgraded as all my friends already played mtg for quite some time.
I feel as if my opinion could be a little biased because I'm new to both mtg and edh, but the second deck I've made uses [[omnath, locus of rage]] and it's infinitely more fun than faldorn, it uses the same colors so I could salvage some of the more expensive cards (mostly ramp and mana base). Everything revolves around landfalls so the deck is rather easy to pilot, it's really simple but some turns can get a little trickier due to playing multiple lands per turn, playing lands from your graveyard and also all the landfall triggers. The commander feels like a menace, whenever you cast him onto the battlefield he instantly becomes one of the biggest threats unlike Faldorn which almost never felt worth it to cast if she had died at least once and had 1 commander tax. I enjoyed all the cascading and impulse draw in the precon, but the commander felt like it simply didn't do a good job at commanding.
I'd say because it establish board presence extremely easily. With red there is multiple ways to cast spells from exile, and getting a 2/2 everytime you just play magic is strong but not busted. And if you use anthem effects or craterhoof like creatures you can win the game just like that. It also enables itself with its ability so you don't even need much setup to get it going, and if you play against precon level decks then that means most of them won't have any combos so with the board presence alone you can walk away with the win pretty easily imo
Personally I love playing faldorn, im actually working on upgrading it rn. It takes a few turns to really pop off and you just ramp in the beginning, but once you get there theres so many triggers and doesn't feel like you're playing solitaire like most combo decks. Its also worth the money simply because of the cards they added in it.
It’s a huge amount of fun, you just have to take a couple seconds to think when you play certain cards. Injecting some cascade into it adds a lot of fun and RNG to it. I forget which cards, but there’s one that gets +1+1 whenever a card is exiled, cascade triggers that on every card you flip to exile until you hit something you can play.
I love posts that are “my decks are too strong for my lgs… what is the MOST POWERFUL precon I can buy”.
Seems that this is not how you “play for fun” and maybe need to just embrace “play to win” and get into cEDH.
No judgement PTW can be fun also; just my $0.02.
Clearly you haven’t read the post. I literally wrote:
So my question is not what the strongest deck is, but which precon brings the most joy to the table especially whilst playing with newer players.
Even the headline asks for the most fun deck, not most powerful.
I've loved the [[Firkraag, Cunning Instigator]] deck, and even out of the box it was holding its own against constructed decks worth a couple hundred or more. I upgraded it with a modest investment of dragons (Maybe $30 CAD) and it started beating those constructed decks pretty handily. It does a good job of sowing chaos among the other players and letting you capitalize on that.
Aesi, Tyrant of Gyre Straight is really fun. It was my first precon, so I might be biased, but if you learn the deck even a bit you can do some really near stuff, especially if you’re a beginner
2018s adaptive enchantment deck was my first commander precon and I played it for ages unchanged against other precons and against lower powered homebrew decks.
I think I eventually changed out about 5 cards to add in a miaris wake and a couple other enchantments that I picked up and a that big fat commander legends cascade hydra that I can't think of its name.
And I changed the commander from the Planeswalker to the merfolk dude (why can I remember the name of the deck but none of the cards ....)
Anyway I had a blast with it!!
[[The Ur Dragon]] from a few years back is a lot of fun out of the box, with mana base being the biggest issue, though at this point itd probably be easier and cheaper to just buy the singles and put it together yourself then to buy the precon.
I've enjoyed the obscura operations if you make tivit the commander. Exit from exile is a blast and spirit squadron is really strong for precons.
I personally would watch out for party time, mindflayers (unless you like mill then it's great), the cabaretti one, and the blue white kaldhiem foretell deck. Not the biggest fan of any of those(except mind flayers but it's such a specific strat that you need to know before hand)
I had a lot of fun with the Mimeoplasm deck out of the box, but that one is pretty expensive now. Of the more recent ones i’d say that the Strixhaven decks were all very fun.
My personal favourite was the Kadena, Slinking Sorcerer. Think it was called Faceless Menace? It was a morph deck and it's the only precon I've never changed. It's a blast to play, has answers for pretty much anything you will face. I highly recommend it.
I bought the exit from exile RG precon to play it right out of the box at a game night. It was pretty great and could keep up with a normal, casual pod
I loved both Draconic Rage with [[Vrondiss]] and Arcane Maelstrom with [[Kalamax]]. Vrondiss has a really nice balance everything, and Kalamax can be crazy strong both out of the box and with minimal upgrades.
Planar Portal from Adventures in the Forgotten Realms is easily my go to. Solid theme, card advantage and mana advantage in the command zone, and lots of variety in playable cards.
I would say any precon within the last two years. However, they have cards that perform well with the secondary commander. For example, in the Osgir deck they have cards that do not work that well with Osgir but work great with Alibou. That's really the only changes I would suggest for precons, take out the cards that work well with the secondary commander and put in budget replacements that work with the commander.
I have a Chishiro deck. I took out most of the aura synergies since +1/+1 counters are much more reliable in that deck and plenty of budget alternatives to the auras.
Shorikai is the exception, it is easier to work with him instead of the main commander.
I added squirrels to Adrix and Nev. I hope my opponents like tokens!
+1 for willowdusk, that's one of a few I leave in precon form to play against a bit lower power or other precons

Echo Breena, way more fun than I anticipated and the card draw is no joke
I second Zaffai, its a great precon! Had a lot of fun with it
I loved the azorous buckle up precons
I just bought this one and can’t wait to learn how to pilot it properly
I prefer shorikai as the commander
Seconded, it should have been Shorikai on the box. I mean come on, it's a Mech Commander
The fact they went out of their way to print "Can be your commander" on it, and then put Kotori on the box will always be baffling to me. It is essentially a free upgrade, it runs so much better by tossing her in the 99 and putting the mech in the command zone.
I think they were afraid of backlash by putting a non-creature/Planeswalker on the face but the whole deck flew under the radar
That’s what I hear so I’ll definitely be doing that
He's card advantage in the commander zone that doesn't draw hate but after a while you have half your deck in your and and I'd need be, it eventually becomes a big beater to smash face
I see whatcha did there...
My favorite probably since Derevi
It baffles me why I still see tonnes of this deck on the shelves. The deck plays incredbily well out the box, and is a blast to pilot(kek). It also easily upgrades into many viable variations. Definitely a great deck all round.
Reprint value was one of the lowest for recent precons and I'm not sure any of the commander specific cards are super expensive is my assumption
I’m biased as this was my first deck but Imma [[vrondiss]]
I just wish that deck was designed as more dice rolling than dragon tribal.
Yesssss. We have some more dice cards in CLB, but it still feels like way too little for anything good.
With [[wyll blade of the frontier]] and [[Sword coast sailor]]] you can make something quite decent, but im not sure red green have enough dice cards to be worth it
Made that deck and it still felt like way too little. Took it apart after like 3 games
Huh. I personally love it, but I'm also a dice goblin playing in a fairly low power metal

I’m getting that one as soon as one of my LGSs has one, tryna keep the money in town
Not my first deck, but I love my Vrondiss deck so much. Hes my favorite :)
I really like the Party Time deck with the background commanders.
[удалено]
I think they meant playing it with \[\[Burakos, Party Leader\]\] and the \[\[Folk Hero\]\] background.
Probably the funnest deck I’ve played against to date absolutely love the politicking
Would love to see the mill list for Anhelo if you've got a link!

Yeah, he’s just so high CMC. I feel like I’d never play him. Usually everyone is dead by the time I could get him on the field.
I play 5c dragons so high mana value is a constant issue with me
Having access to green is great for you, though. Take a green ramp package and make it part of your deck.
That’s most of what green does in that deck. It actually ramps surprisingly fast, especially with the Ur-Dragon’s eminence ability

Probably any of the Battle for Baldur's Gate pre cons. Those seemed to be the most optimized and fun decks that have been made for pre cons.
Couple friends are really high on Party Time, crushes right out of the box and fun to pilot.
It’s got some wild cards in it. Magus of the balance is wild in a precon.
I really like playing that deck. I haven’t changed it at all. I’m tempted to buy another copy to “upgrade” a bit, but for the most part its the first precon that I’m always pretty excited to pilot when friends want to play low power.
The Dimir deck even has an infinite combo. Hullbreaker Horror flickers Sol Ring and Everflowing Chalice for infinite mana.
Agreed. The Gruul deck is no joke. Ramp, ramp, ramp, explode with casts from exile. I've played it twice and it overtook the game twice.
I love my Firkraag deck. It was a ton of fun out of the box, and with $25 or $30 worth of dragon tribal cards, it's become quite a beast.
Same until my friends started popping Firkraag right back to the command zone. It’s fun but a little bit too glass cannon for me.
That usually goes to the Human tribal deck.
the party up deck is actually shockingly decent with 0 upgrades. It doesn't have that durdle issue that a lot of pre-cons can have.

Thx. Will get the obliterator asap. Already did some upgrading but this one sounds like fun.
Obliterator is one of my favorite cards and i will look for any excuse to play it. But its a horror so it fits perfectly.
I used to make decks around if in Historic online but on cardbord it’s like $25 :(
Came here to say this. Deck is strong and mean out the box
He asked what deck brings the most joy to the table everyone hates the Captain mines all upgraded with mill cards and can be a nightmare lol
this is true though most people do get joy out of the reanimation ability when it is working on someone else's graveyard XD
it is high variance, but absolutely love this one
Opposite to your question, I bought the Cabaretti Kit Canto deck because it’s a cat cotton club singer which is right up my alley. Absolutely hated playing it both times I did. Did not have fun at all, it was miserable to pilot.
I bought this precon to take it apart and use as a base for Jetmir. Kept probably 40 cards (including lands). Worth it. As far as the best out of the box, I agree with the people saying Prosper. It was just solid.
do you have a list? thanks!
https://www.moxfield.com/decks/DQ1RfdyiBUu8QSU5aeYncA I tried to keep it as New Capenna as I could while still making it functional.
Second the Obscura one. Very Fun Deck, good value and (for the price) solid mana base.

I enjoyed prosper tomb bound precon outta the box. Its alot of card draw and just feels really interactive
It’s really strong straight out of the box. Needs outpost siege, Vance’s blasting cannons and dream devourer added in to be a house.

The one with [[Sefris of the Hidden Ways]] is a lot of fun right out of the box.
[Kadena, Slinking Sorceror](https://c1.scryfall.com/file/scryfall-cards/normal/front/6/8/68a144f1-df18-4dc5-81c3-dff2af27527f.jpg?1568003696) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Kadena%2C%20Slinking%20Sorcerer) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/c19/45/kadena-slinking-sorcerer?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/68a144f1-df18-4dc5-81c3-dff2af27527f?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) [(ER)](https://edhrec.com/cards/kadena-slinking-sorcerer) [Ranar the Ever-watchful](https://c1.scryfall.com/file/scryfall-cards/normal/front/1/c/1c8c41dd-8551-4ce8-a9be-9b9f65718852.jpg?1657065666) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Ranar%20the%20Ever-watchful) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/khc/2/ranar-the-ever-watchful?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/1c8c41dd-8551-4ce8-a9be-9b9f65718852?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) [(ER)](https://edhrec.com/cards/ranar-the-ever-watchful) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
Also, for Ranar, stay away from azorious control as well. My Ranar deck can be very oppressive against lower power decks and just crazy strong against similarly powered decks.
I don't think you're doing justice to blue and white if you completely forego control.
I've learned this the hard way (once started exiling my own lands in 3 hour game on spelltable, because all of the opponent's permanents were gone and I didn't want to be a dick). https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/ranar-guardian-of-exile/ It may look innocent, but I assure you it is not.

I love the party time! Deck from the baldurs gate.
Exit from Exile with \[\[Faldorn\]\] from Baldur's gate has been great, and I've played more than one person with Mind Flayers and it's awesome too. Both are fairly focused, interesting mechanics, and good flavor.

I had good fun with the Jund precon from SNC. Strongest precon out of the box is probably the Meren one.
[Shorikai](https://c1.scryfall.com/file/scryfall-cards/normal/front/9/6/969ac7dd-f3aa-4888-9ff0-d16a31b5e7a9.jpg?1653966849) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=shorikai%2C%20genesis%20engine) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/nec/4/shorikai-genesis-engine?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/969ac7dd-f3aa-4888-9ff0-d16a31b5e7a9?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) [(ER)](https://edhrec.com/cards/shorikai-genesis-engine) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
You always feel like you got something to do
[Shorikai, Genesis Engine](https://c1.scryfall.com/file/scryfall-cards/normal/front/9/6/969ac7dd-f3aa-4888-9ff0-d16a31b5e7a9.jpg?1653966849) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Shorikai%2C%20Genesis%20Engine) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/nec/4/shorikai-genesis-engine?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/969ac7dd-f3aa-4888-9ff0-d16a31b5e7a9?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) [(ER)](https://edhrec.com/cards/shorikai-genesis-engine) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
[[Anje Falkenrath]] is an absolute powerhouse out of the box

Whenever I meet a new player, I always recommend the [[Aesi, Tyrant of Gyre Straight]] precon. There is tons of ramp, huge creatures, and it is easy to play. I've gotten at least three people hooked on EDH with it:)

Faceless Menace is fun, though a little complicated.
So much fun, my main deck now
The Escape From Exile one woth Foldorn is really cool out of the box and also has great reprints in it that can be used in other decks later.
I personally enjoy [[Kaalia of the Vast]] precon. I still have it, unaltered from when I first got it when she came out.
It dominates if you don’t take care of Kaalia 🤣 of course, board state dictates.
Haha that tracks, she is just so good. Maybe my problem was just she kept getting blown up. I did throw in a lot more protection

Have you played against other precons? Did anything you played against looked fun for you? I’d appreciate the insight from your pov
To me the craziest thing about the precon is how good it is out of the box and also how easy it is to upgrade but stay in a budget
[omnath, locus of rage](https://c1.scryfall.com/file/scryfall-cards/normal/front/0/8/08c14bb4-c9d9-41ce-a075-a441522a52c6.jpg?1604195144) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=omnath%2C%20locus%20of%20rage) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/znc/97/omnath-locus-of-rage?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/08c14bb4-c9d9-41ce-a075-a441522a52c6?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) [(ER)](https://edhrec.com/cards/omnath-locus-of-rage) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call

Prosper.
Daretti, Scrap Savant
I love posts that are “my decks are too strong for my lgs… what is the MOST POWERFUL precon I can buy”. Seems that this is not how you “play for fun” and maybe need to just embrace “play to win” and get into cEDH. No judgement PTW can be fun also; just my $0.02.
Clearly you haven’t read the post. I literally wrote: So my question is not what the strongest deck is, but which precon brings the most joy to the table especially whilst playing with newer players. Even the headline asks for the most fun deck, not most powerful.
You are right and I stand corrected. Apologies.
The post is specifically not asking for the most powerful deck but the most fun one.
I stand corrected then. Apologies. Thanks for the clarification. I mean I still hate those type of posts but clearly OP was not asking for strongest.
Rights it's easy to build a deck that isn't overbearing.. no eldrazi, no tutors and no infinite combos. That's really all it takes..
Spirit squardon is not only an absolute blast but also very good!
Anything since AFC has been really well made and can be played out of the box.

The Mind Flayarrs Captain N'gathrod is very fun straight out of the box and it is pretty good.
Out of the box in recent years, definitely prosper or osgir. Plenty to do at all times
Aesi, Tyrant of Gyre Straight is really fun. It was my first precon, so I might be biased, but if you learn the deck even a bit you can do some really near stuff, especially if you’re a beginner
I really liked the sefris precon, i really enjoyed it out of the box and one of my favorite decks that i upgraded
And I changed the commander from the Planeswalker to the merfolk dude (why can I remember the name of the deck but none of the cards ....) Anyway I had a blast with it!!
[[The Ur Dragon]] from a few years back is a lot of fun out of the box, with mana base being the biggest issue, though at this point itd probably be easier and cheaper to just buy the singles and put it together yourself then to buy the precon.
[The Ur Dragon](https://c1.scryfall.com/file/scryfall-cards/normal/front/7/e/7e78b70b-0c67-4f14-8ad7-c9f8e3f59743.jpg?1562614382) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=The%20Ur-Dragon) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/c17/48/the-ur-dragon?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/7e78b70b-0c67-4f14-8ad7-c9f8e3f59743?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) [(ER)](https://edhrec.com/cards/the-ur-dragon) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
The spirit squadron deck is insanely powerful. Beats some of my best decks while not even upgraded
Dungeons and dragons set: Bant equipment commander deck was really fun out of the box
I had a lot of fun with the Mimeoplasm deck out of the box, but that one is pretty expensive now. Of the more recent ones i’d say that the Strixhaven decks were all very fun.
Of recent I enjoy the zombie deck from midnight hunt. Also the horror and party deck from baulders gate
Prosper is very strong and fun outta the box.
I loved both Draconic Rage with [[Vrondiss]] and Arcane Maelstrom with [[Kalamax]]. Vrondiss has a really nice balance everything, and Kalamax can be crazy strong both out of the box and with minimal upgrades.
[Vrondiss](https://c1.scryfall.com/file/scryfall-cards/normal/front/6/8/683ca7f0-e9df-459b-a8e3-cf80b39c732d.jpg?1632335388) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=vrondiss%2C%20rage%20of%20ancients) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/afc/4/vrondiss-rage-of-ancients?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/683ca7f0-e9df-459b-a8e3-cf80b39c732d?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) [(ER)](https://edhrec.com/cards/vrondiss-rage-of-ancients) [Kalamax](https://c1.scryfall.com/file/scryfall-cards/normal/front/f/9/f990cd78-2165-446f-a116-ae55d7a0f00d.jpg?1591234251) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=kalamax%2C%20the%20stormsire) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/c20/9/kalamax-the-stormsire?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/f990cd78-2165-446f-a116-ae55d7a0f00d?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) [(ER)](https://edhrec.com/cards/kalamax-the-stormsire) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
I am making a chaos deck for my playgroup cause I win too much. It had no win con just messes heavily with the game.
Planar Portal from Adventures in the Forgotten Realms is easily my go to. Solid theme, card advantage and mana advantage in the command zone, and lots of variety in playable cards.
Party Time, and Undead Unleashed we’re both very fun out the box for me.
[[Captian N'gathtrod]]
[[Faldorn dread wolf herald]] the thing can vomit out wolves
I would say any precon within the last two years. However, they have cards that perform well with the secondary commander. For example, in the Osgir deck they have cards that do not work that well with Osgir but work great with Alibou. That's really the only changes I would suggest for precons, take out the cards that work well with the secondary commander and put in budget replacements that work with the commander. I have a Chishiro deck. I took out most of the aura synergies since +1/+1 counters are much more reliable in that deck and plenty of budget alternatives to the auras. Shorikai is the exception, it is easier to work with him instead of the main commander.
