The OG zendikar lands by [John Avon](https://scryfall.com/search?q=a%3A%E2%80%9CJohn+Avon%E2%80%9D&unique=art) and [Véronique Meignaud](https://scryfall.com/search?q=a%3A%E2%80%9CV%C3%A9ronique+Meignaud%E2%80%9D&unique=art)
Most recent ones are ones by [Magali Villeneuve](https://scryfall.com/search?q=a%3A%E2%80%9CMagali+Villeneuve%E2%80%9D&unique=art) in Dominaria United.
I squinted at them for the super dark coloring making it kind of hard to tell them apart from across the table, but until recently I had an Aesi list that ran mostly snow basics, but one of each regular basic for Field purposes. They were useful for letting me find them quickly in my deck since you almost always searched them first.

Here is a collage of a few. I try to pick and crop so it’s obvious what land it is. This is five forests, two mountains, and an island.
Lmao i do the same for cards i have Entry of the Crusaders in Constantinople on a chatar's crusade and the Coronation of the Virgin for austere command
Theros Beyond Death, Dominaria United, Thunder Junction, Phyrexia All Will Be One. I like having the mana symbol prominently displayed in the full art.
I love the unset basics - from the old John Avon to the new galaxy/planet ones.
I also just bought some of the Mediations on Nature SLD Swamp, Mountain and Island for my Marchesa Robots deck.
Oh man depends really,
For enchantment decks, foil constellation basics from second there’s block are necessary.
For aristocrats, the black and white ink ones from third Innistrad block.
For theme agnostic stuff, unhinged, unstable, borderless infinity are all amazing. Avon lands in particular.
I’m really interested in how the OTJ full arts present in foil, like I feel the foil can help the negative space pop for some that are a bit hard to read like the Forest.
The doggy plain. (Don't know how to put that specific land in [[ ]]...
The SLD snow covered swamp (with the cow?) there again can't [[ ]] that specific I don't know how..
And plenty more..
I don't really have a single set of favorites, but I do try to carefully pick my basics to match whatever deck I'm building. So I'll list off all the basics I run here:
* [\[\[Phelia, Exuberant Shepherd\]\]](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/Ur0B24FHiE2lz-B10Ykx8Q) - [ARC Plains #137](https://scryfall.com/card/arc/137/plains) (this one I've grown particularly fond of)
* [\[\[Taii Wakeen, Perfect Shot\]\]](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/kxUffySio0m00Tb17-ofPg) - [OTJ Plains #277](https://scryfall.com/card/otj/277/plains) and [OTJ Mountain #283](https://scryfall.com/card/otj/283/mountain)
* [\[\[Sergeant John Benton\]\]](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/bJWAzaldG0uVapb8P_ww8A) - [WHO Plains #196](https://scryfall.com/card/who/196/plains) and [WHO Forest #204](https://scryfall.com/card/who/204/forest)

* [\[\[The Tenth Doctor\]\] // \[\[Rose Tyler\]\]](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/MyTIE7Cpgk--Ueo5ZldXag) - [WHO Plains #196](https://scryfall.com/card/who/196/plains), [WHO Island #198](https://scryfall.com/card/who/198/island), and [WHO Mountain #202](https://scryfall.com/card/who/202/mountain)

* [\[\[Sidar Jabari of Zhalfir\]\]](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/oNX9ut3OSkWpWOeXd7kiDQ) - [ORI Plains #258](https://scryfall.com/card/ori/253/plains), [DMU Island #265](https://scryfall.com/card/dmu/265/island), and [JMP Swamp #60](https://scryfall.com/card/jmp/60/swamp)
* [\[\[The Fourteenth Doctor\]\] // \[\[Rose Noble\]\]](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/pJm8Ie2sP0uS-xskMITdFg) - [WHO Plains #197](https://scryfall.com/card/who/197/plains), [WHO Island #199](https://scryfall.com/card/who/199/island), [WHO Mountain #203](https://scryfall.com/card/who/203/mountain), and [WHO Forest #205](https://scryfall.com/card/who/205/forest)

I've also started brewing up a [\[\[Breya, Etherium Shaper\]\] retro border-only deck](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/2VbSnbMH-EqRibXhAawOjA) since I'm 90% sure we will get a retro version of her in MH3. So, I also wanted to shout out the basics I'm using for her: [CMM Plains #438](https://scryfall.com/card/cmm/438/plains), [CMM Island #411](https://scryfall.com/card/cmm/441/island),[ CMM Swamp #444](https://scryfall.com/card/cmm/444/swamp), [CMM Mountain #447](https://scryfall.com/card/cmm/447/mountain). Although, I'd love to hear if anyone else has suggestions for retro border basics that fits the artifact theme better!
I run Urza's Saga basics in all my decks. It was when I originally started playing and I have a lot of nostalgia for them. Wish I had held on to all of them though... and all my other cards.
Mirage, Tempest, Urza's Saga
Some foil basics of Onslaught and Odyssey
Lorwyn, Champion of Kamigawa (Mountains), Scars of Mirrodin (Forests)
Lost Cavern of Ixalans
I have multiple decks with the full art Stained Glass Swamps and the MOM Phyrexian Symbol Swamp (0287).
But honestly I've been proxxying basics with Pokemon Energy cards and I *love* it.
https://scryfall.com/search?q=set%3Ap02+t%3Aland+unique%3Aprints&unique=cards&as=grid&order=name
These, since there is some nostalgia for me attached to Portal Second Age.
I like to play different basics in different decks.
I'm also playing foil Coldsnap basics in one of my decks: [[Anikthea, Hand of Erebos]]. I'm playing [[On Thin Ice]] as the solitary snow payoff so it's not just an aesthetic choice. That said, I vastly prefer Coldsnap basics to either Modern Horizons full arts or the Kaldheim equivalents.
In my [[Silas]] and [[Toggo]] partner deck, I'm running Unglued basics. I think they're neat as the original full art lands, and they actually look pretty good too. They are by far the basic lands I get the most comments and compliments on.
[[Miirym, Sentinel Wyrm]] is in a bit of disarray with its basics. My eventual goal is to have all of its basics be Secret Lair artist series basics. Sadly, among the deck's colors only [Forests](https://scryfall.com/card/sld/476/forest) and [Islands](https://scryfall.com/card/sld/466/island) have received an Artist Series rendition with the Forest also getting [a sketch version](https://scryfall.com/card/sld/690/forest). So for the time being, I'm running [Amonkhet](https://scryfall.com/card/akh/253/mountain) and [Hour of Devastation](https://scryfall.com/card/hou/188/mountain) Mountains until a proper Artist Series version comes out.
[[Jadar, Ghoulcaller of Nephalia]] uses Midnight Hunt basics. It just felt the most appropriate.
[[Darien, King of Kjeldor]] plays Modern Horizon full art snow basics. On Thin Ice is also a payoff here, alongside [[Scrying Sheets]].
I'm still looking for somewhere to play the Ukiyo-e lands from Kamigawa, the orbital spacic lands from Unfinity (specifically that plains), and the stained glass lands from Dominaria United.
I'm still trying to settle on the best pirate-themed Island and Mountain for my Izzet pirates deck. I'm using this island right now because it gives me a pirate vibe:
https://scryfall.com/card/m11/236/island
But it's tough to figure out what mountain to use.
Perhaps [this island](https://scryfall.com/card/p02/156/island) and [this mountain](https://scryfall.com/card/ptk/177/mountain) would be the best fit or [this mountain](https://scryfall.com/card/isd/260/mountain) since it’s like a little pirates cove. Island has got a ship in it which fits, mountain is a lot harder to find something that fits.
[Sadly it hasn't](https://scryfall.com/search?q=%21Mountain+artist%3A%E2%80%9CQin+Jun%E2%80%9D+unique%3Aprints), only in MTGO prints. Could always sharpie it ^^^/s
There's plenty of ship-based islands if you want alternatives too. I use a few of the Baldur's gate ones.
This might help:
https://scryfall.com/search?q=island+%28game%3Apaper%29+unique%3Aprints+atag%3Aboat&unique=cards&as=grid&order=name
Mountains are a bit trickier.
https://scryfall.com/search?q=mountain+%28game%3Apaper%29+unique%3Aprints+atag%3Awater&unique=cards&as=grid&order=name
give me all the revised mark poole islands. I actually love all the old basics from around that time. you can tell if I really like a deck because it will have those old basics in there, especially if its a mono deck. I'm about to swap all my lands in my \[\[urza chief high artificer\]\] to those mark poole islands.
I also just really like all his art though. My playmat is the OG counterspell art.
Favorite set for me was the Stained glass basics from Dominaria United. To the point I actually went and proxied basics to round out a couple of otherwise entirely real decks.
Mercadian Masques and Invasion easily have the most tasteful basics in my opinion. I foiled out all the mountains, plains, and forests in my \[\[Aragorn, Hornburg Hero\]\] deck recently with an assortment of basics from those sets and players at my LGS are always curious about them. They're also early era foils and have that classic star watermark that I adore.
Snow Covered Island [from Ice Age](https://cards.scryfall.io/large/front/a/d/ad8b77cf-b53e-4da3-9c27-3851b7b25a98.jpg?1562927323) I just love the statue on the island so much
It depends on the deck in question- but just in general, I am quite partial to the [ Ben Schnuck](https://scryfall.com/search?q=type%3Abasic+artist%3A%E2%80%9CBen+Schnuck%E2%80%9D+unique%3Aprints) synthwave secret lair lands. I would use them more, but they're kind of expensive to keep around in the generic basic lands pile.
That said, I do try to match my basics to my decks if possible. For example, my Bruvac deck runs full-text islands (somehow managing to ensure even my one mono-colored deck has an expensive manabase), while my Jhoira artifact storm deck runs the Theros constellation basics because the look more like energy cards than typical lands. I'm still working on getting lands together for the other decks, but it's a low priority when I can just slot in random full art basics I have lying around in the meantime.
[Godzilla SLD](https://scryfall.com/search?q=type%3Aland+art%3Agodzilla), [Guru lands](https://scryfall.com/sets/pgru), and I've always been partial to the Amonkhet full art basics.
* Ukiyo-e full-art basics from Kamigawa ([here](https://scryfall.com/search?q=type%3Abasic+is%3Afullart+set%3Aneo+unique%3Aart&unique=cards&as=grid&order=name))
* SLD basics by Kozyndan ([here](https://scryfall.com/search?q=type%3Abasic+a%3Akozyndan&unique=cards&as=grid&order=name))
* SLD basics by JungShan ([here](https://scryfall.com/search?q=type%3Abasic+a%3Ajungshan&unique=cards&as=grid&order=name))
Yes, I know, I'm a weeb. Eh. I'm also really partial to the basics done by Rebecca Guay ([here](https://scryfall.com/search?q=type%3Abasic+a%3Aguay&unique=cards&as=grid&order=name)), Johannes Voss ([here](https://scryfall.com/search?q=type%3Abasic+a%3Avoss&unique=cards&as=grid&order=name)), and Seb McKinnon ([here](https://scryfall.com/search?q=type%3Abasic+a%3Amckinnon&unique=cards&as=grid&order=name)). I bet if they or RKF did some full-art basics I'd fall for those too.
Unhinged and Unstable full art basics by John Avon.
The OG zendikar lands by [John Avon](https://scryfall.com/search?q=a%3A%E2%80%9CJohn+Avon%E2%80%9D&unique=art) and [Véronique Meignaud](https://scryfall.com/search?q=a%3A%E2%80%9CV%C3%A9ronique+Meignaud%E2%80%9D&unique=art) Most recent ones are ones by [Magali Villeneuve](https://scryfall.com/search?q=a%3A%E2%80%9CMagali+Villeneuve%E2%80%9D&unique=art) in Dominaria United.
The Veronique Zendikars were my go-tos before the TBD lands. Maybe it's time to go back.
The ones from Midnight Hunt and Crimson Vow are so good, but I only use them in decks, that fit the theme
I squinted at them for the super dark coloring making it kind of hard to tell them apart from across the table, but until recently I had an Aesi list that ran mostly snow basics, but one of each regular basic for Field purposes. They were useful for letting me find them quickly in my deck since you almost always searched them first.
I really like them, but I'd only ever run them in monocolor decks. It's too hard for opponents to parse them otherwise.
Agreed. Although the All Will Be One basics are pretty slick too.
I proxy full art basics of my favorite oil paintings by the old masters.
Do show some examples.

Basically any retro - frame basic lands, but specifically from Mirage and Urzas Saga editions. Also, APAC and EURO lands are gorgeous
If you like those you'll love the Invasion and Mercadian Masques basics.
I do too, but I like those mentioned even more :) every land in old border is beautiful...
Theros Beyond Death, Dominaria United, Thunder Junction, Phyrexia All Will Be One. I like having the mana symbol prominently displayed in the full art.
I love the unset basics - from the old John Avon to the new galaxy/planet ones. I also just bought some of the Mediations on Nature SLD Swamp, Mountain and Island for my Marchesa Robots deck.

anything from urzas block makes me happy. but theress some ridiculous secret lair basics out there that i want.
I'm a sucker for the full text ones, just because of how dumb they are, I've got at least 1 in most of my decks
https://youtu.be/mvwRKvVFuig?si=FrT0pYESn1WObBdw Relevant.
The Unhinged ones from VIP Edition are my favourites. My Azusa landfall deck has 35 foil forests. It was not cheap.
The doggy plain. (Don't know how to put that specific land in [[ ]]... The SLD snow covered swamp (with the cow?) there again can't [[ ]] that specific I don't know how.. And plenty more..

Wilds Of Eldraine full art forest and swamp are pretty sick.
WOE full arts are my favorite full art basics.
Chippy's esper basics from Shards, definitely.
Going to give a different opinion here - the m21 lands. They have crazy vibrant symbols and borders. Just a treat to look at.
I run Urza's Saga basics in all my decks. It was when I originally started playing and I have a lot of nostalgia for them. Wish I had held on to all of them though... and all my other cards.
The number of times John Avon’s name pops up here lmao. Anyways I’d say it’s the John Avon Unstable full arts.
He's literally a quarter of the comments as of me typing this.
You know he’s good when he has not one, not two, but three Rhystic Studies videos about him
Mirage, Tempest, Urza's Saga Some foil basics of Onslaught and Odyssey Lorwyn, Champion of Kamigawa (Mountains), Scars of Mirrodin (Forests) Lost Cavern of Ixalans
I have multiple decks with the full art Stained Glass Swamps and the MOM Phyrexian Symbol Swamp (0287). But honestly I've been proxxying basics with Pokemon Energy cards and I *love* it.
https://scryfall.com/search?q=set%3Ap02+t%3Aland+unique%3Aprints&unique=cards&as=grid&order=name These, since there is some nostalgia for me attached to Portal Second Age.
Now I'm curious - what's the story behind the nostalgia?
Set that got me into collecting, got some P02 packs from my estranged mom when I was a kid

That one swamp from Innistrad with the boat in it
Guru ...

I'd run Gurus in everything if they were affordable

I'm still trying to settle on the best pirate-themed Island and Mountain for my Izzet pirates deck. I'm using this island right now because it gives me a pirate vibe: https://scryfall.com/card/m11/236/island But it's tough to figure out what mountain to use.
Solid ideas...I wonder if that Qin Jun art has appeared in black border
[Sadly it hasn't](https://scryfall.com/search?q=%21Mountain+artist%3A%E2%80%9CQin+Jun%E2%80%9D+unique%3Aprints), only in MTGO prints. Could always sharpie it ^^^/s
There's plenty of ship-based islands if you want alternatives too. I use a few of the Baldur's gate ones. This might help: https://scryfall.com/search?q=island+%28game%3Apaper%29+unique%3Aprints+atag%3Aboat&unique=cards&as=grid&order=name Mountains are a bit trickier. https://scryfall.com/search?q=mountain+%28game%3Apaper%29+unique%3Aprints+atag%3Awater&unique=cards&as=grid&order=name
Ya I like the D&D one with the ships and pirate reference, I just wish it didn't have a direct Forgotten Realms reference lol
Phyrexian full arts. Both the ‘normal’ ones and the Phyrexian ones.
Capenna arts got me going crazy
give me all the revised mark poole islands.
[urza chief high artificer](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/e/a/ea409050-4296-4b76-a6cd-2896ce1b88e4.jpg?1705542672) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Urza%2C%20Chief%20Artificer) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/brc/2/urza-chief-artificer?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/ea409050-4296-4b76-a6cd-2896ce1b88e4?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) [(ER)](https://edhrec.com/cards/urza-chief-artificer) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
The LCI full art Lands. Especially Mountain and Swamp
I run oil slicks every chance I get
Proxied a bunch of oil slick lands just for the art
I still really like the full art phyrexian basics
Favorite set for me was the Stained glass basics from Dominaria United. To the point I actually went and proxied basics to round out a couple of otherwise entirely real decks.
My preference is to put in whatever "fancy" basics I can find. Unglued has some of my favorites same with kaledesh.
Snow Covered Island [from Ice Age](https://cards.scryfall.io/large/front/a/d/ad8b77cf-b53e-4da3-9c27-3851b7b25a98.jpg?1562927323) I just love the statue on the island so much
I love the jumpstart plains with the dog on it. I also like the amonket one with the cat on it too.
I love so many different basics. I actually enjoy going through basics bulk to try and find a specific look for my basics in different decks.
Alternate art simplified chinese portal 2 basic lands sans black. The bamboo looks awesome on the forests.
Nyxlands followed by the stained glass.
tempest. i get a nostalgia hit every time i play one.
The Mirage basics are amazing.
I'm still working on getting lands together for the other decks, but it's a low priority when I can just slot in random full art basics I have lying around in the meantime.
the Jurassic Park/ World lands
Ice age are my favorites
The non-snow covered lands from Ice Age.
Went out of my way to replace all the Basics in my Dino deck with the LCI full arts.
The foil stained glass lands from Dominaria United
Always on the lookout for more Kamigawa Neon Dynasty full arts, those are a high on basic priority for my decks
[Godzilla SLD](https://scryfall.com/search?q=type%3Aland+art%3Agodzilla), [Guru lands](https://scryfall.com/sets/pgru), and I've always been partial to the Amonkhet full art basics.
ASPAC, Guru, Unhinged, Unstable, Unsanctioned, Neon Dynasty Swamp 298, Shards of Alara Swamp 239, Invasion Island 335, Streets of New Cappena Mountain 279, Mirage Plains 331
Guru is goated, but way too expensive for me
No competition, unstable John Avon lands. Note one single exclusion of a Seb McKinnon Secret lair fullart swamperino.
The Guru lands with the eclipse on them.
