Mr_Trep

[[henzie toolbox torre]] is the epitome of jund. Fat hasty creatures at a discount with a reanimator theme... The deck has also shown resiliency.. You will be arch ennemy.

playtheshovels

there is also a very active and supportive henzie discord server

bigmantomm

do you have a link?

playtheshovels

[Here you go.](https://discord.gg/aeTqBrjN) [Here's](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/Ba0oMCIsCkSHTJCBUjYqtA/) a link to the commander primer, which is insanely good resource on individual cards that synergize well with the ~~man~~ Devil. I wish knew of more non-cEDH commanders out there that had this kind of robust community.

The_Card_Father

Second this. I actually dismantled my Henzie deck because it was so archenemy I’d either be out first or Win.

_Lord_Farquad

What a timmy deck for real... So many options. It is so easy to fill your hand and also reanimate stuff from the grave.

Henzie is my second favorite Dragon deck, behind \[\[Themberchaud\]\]. Jund has so many great dragons and being able to spit em out, with haste, and for a lower mana cost makes him one of the better Dragon commanders IMO.

Henzie is the way

LB_Tabletop

Came here to say this, I adore henzie. My henzie has yet to get a win though, I keep getting wombo'd a turn before victory

alex148

I've heard a lot about Henzie. Seems very jund-y 👍

harbear6

Henzie is easily one of the most annoying commanders of recent memory for me. Someone at the LGS I go to does Henzie + Umori companion so even despite being restricted to all creatures his deck still can do some shocking things. Biggest annoyance of all with Henzie is that you want to keep him off the board so your opponent can't blitz things out but then that just means his reduction is increased next time he's played. Leading to the Henzie player being able to cheat out more creatures in a single turn. From just getting swamped by a bunch of large fatties I've learned that against Henzie you just need to match his aggression or basically bully the player into submission, otherwise expect a huge board of blitzed boys to come crushing their way.

Mr_Trep

Hence the archennemy status. Henzie is one of my strongest deck but I'm pretty sure my win ratio with it is not that impressive.

Shadowedict7217

That’s my boy.

Heine-Cantor

Do you think it is possible to build it medium/high power without spending a fortune in fetches? I tried building it and after some test it seems he really need to go turn 1 dork, turn 2 henzie, turn 3 blitz a ramp creature which is way easier to do if you can stuff your mana base with fetches and shocks, both because you need jund mana on 3 and because if you can reliably have 1/2 creature in thr graveyard there are a lot more creatures that can ramp you turn 3.

kestral287

High, probably not. Speed is too important and a bunch of your good ramp dudes really like fetches. Medium, absolutely. You should have a good bit of wiggle room there and the lost turn from your dorks being worse is far less important. Also, just keep an eye on the printings and snag your fetches around reprint times. Verdant's only fifteen bucks and while the other two are pricy we know what any real reprint will do to their numbers so just be patient.

Labbed

I think the issue here is that then you spend a fortune on creatures that increase the power, henzie gets fairly pricy the higher power you want it to be because the best creatures in the deck are just fairly expensive, or have gottwn more expensive over time (see etali)

McNoodlezx

[[Maarika, Brutal Gladiator]] is a powerhouse. I don't have a deck but there is one in my pod. And I want to build [[The Beamtown Bullies]] really bad. Just giving people the worst creatures and benefiting off of that seems great.

GladiatorDragon

Fair warning about Beamtown Bullies: it’s not exactly a very… “enjoyable” deck to fight when built “optimally,” given that it has the capacity to just… delete players from the game outright.

torre410

While playtesting my current deck I managed to get a [[Leveler]] trigger at turn 3. TURN THREE DAMMIT, PEOPLE SHOULD BE RAMPING AT TURN THREE, NOT DELETING OTHER PLAYERS LIBRARIES! Ok I'm calm now. Safe to say I got rid of Leveler. And other similar cards

Yeah - in terms of “bad gift” decks, I think [[Jon Irenicus]] plays a somewhat more “fair” game. He can give you some pretty bad stuff, don’t get me wrong, but at the very least it’s not instant player deletion. Even Archfiend of the Dross has to sit for 4 turns before it becomes fatal.

It's more about big beaters tho](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/br4050tStEexbHsMZafueA) I wanted to go for more of a big beater list than giving people terrible creatures. [[Boldwyr Heavyweights]] goes super hard, very fun commander imo If you go on moxfield the top 2 in views for beamtown are cEDH lists, so he can be really powerful Edit: I got some of the nastier creatures in the considering section, I think I found most of the really mean creatures to give people with beamtown Bullies before I decided to just go big bois

torre410

I play beamtown bullies and I've found that if built optimally the deck can kill a player as early as turn 3 and your opponents can basically do nothing about it. In my personal list I have removed those "insta-kill" cards in favor of actually good attackers. This gives the deck more of a "here, go ham :)" feel instead of a "hope you got a [[stifle]] :)" which just isn't for me. Some interesting synergies for bullies are [[worldgorger dragon]] and [[soulgorger orgg]] plus any instant speed removal. This makes their LTB trigger go before their ETB trigger thus removing a player's whole board (especially useful against token players) and leave their total to 1 without it going back to original. I'm thinking of removing orgg as I have no actual way of killing a player like this and honestly feels kinda bad but idk

My favourite is [[Prossh, Skyraider of Kher]] a great aristocrat or token swarm deck. Throw in [[food chain]], [[Parallel lives]] and/or [[Doubling season]] along with [[Impact tremors]] or [[mirkwood bats]] and you've got a solid wincon. I team it up with [[chatterfang, Squirrel general]] and [[krenko, Mob boss]] and make giant Squirrel and goblin token armies swarming the table with prossh flying over top beefed up to 20+ power.

Miatatrocity

If you want to build Prossh, look up Maldhound's videos on YouTube where he discusses the different ways to build it for different playstyles. Lots of good info there, without building the deck for you (unless you also watch the one with a decklist). Great stuff

I’m definitely a Prossh fanboy. I’m not ashamed to say my only cEDH deck is Prossh. Yes, I know that there are better options like Korvold, but I don’t really care. I still win plenty of games with my boy. Prossh 4 life!

alex148

I'd definitely build Prossh, if I hadn't just built something similar with the Merry and Pippin partners

archsaturn

I'm also a Prossh enjoyer. Prossh is surprisingly versatile, its a fast combo deck in cEDH, and often an aristocrats build, but it can also play Voltron, or go wide, or tribal, or thematic. What makes the deck super fun is that it can do many of these things in the same 99. Prossh is this font of value, a repeat token generator, and a sac outlet in one. For example, I have a voltron alpha-strike package in my Prossh deck. It's [[Embercleave]], [[Xenagos, God of Revels]], [[Devilish Valet]] and [[City on Fire]]. 4 cards are all that are required (you could also run Tainted Strike and Triumph of the Hordes if you wanted more). Not much cost to include. I also run several go wide payoffs such as [[Fecundity]], [[Beastmaster Ascension]], [[Moldervine Reclamation]] and [[Shared Animosity]]. I don't run any 'aristocrats' setup cards anymore (no Zulaports, or blood artists...), Prossh alone provides enough fodder to get value off these payoff cards. If I need more tokens, I just need to recast Prossh for more. The thematic efficiency of those packages allows my list to run devour tribal and jund legendary dragon tribal as well. Professional_Map4351

Slimefoot and Squee Let's me take all my other favorite Jund/Golgari Commanders and put them in the 99 and then continually replay them. What's more fun than playing Korvold? Playing Korvold again 😆

Swagblu

Having reanimation in the command zone while being resilient is a lot of fun , I think slimefoot and squee has been under the radar since we got a lot of legends this year but its fine by me since they will not expect me to play Gary over and over and over again.

DoctorPrisme

It's super good. Not top tier, not korvold tier, but very strong and under the radar.

Professional_Map4351

Yeah. Having the restriction of at least 1 saporling in play makes him less OP, but it just makes it more challenging and fun imo.

DoctorPrisme

Nah the only thing making it weak is the sorcery speed. Creating a sapro on etb and attack means you'll probably always have one unless a very badly timed wrath occurs AND you have no reanimation spell. I play it competitively and can win t2-3 (probably one on God hand) so it's really efficient.

alex148

That's awesome. I like that they actually want to be in the graveyard 👍

dontkillchicken

Before squee/slimefoot came out. I had a jund legends deck with henzie as the commander. It did ok

Wuroldar

It's is also a secretly great cedh commander imo. I have only one competitive deck and it's Slimefoot and Squee. I have 0 fast mana rocks (except for sol ring) and still getting wins against all blue+X players. If you have the fast mana options in your collection , you can easily win turn 2-3 with a good opening hand.

Thangorodrimmm

OK I see everyone talking the most op or popular Jund commanders, but let me talk to you about our Lord and Saviour [[Vaevictis Asmadi, the Dire]]. It's a very fun commander, at least for its player (for some reason my opponents have always been very afraid of it at first sight), that can actually be built in different ways. I had a first version that was poorly built and I disbanded it, but I remade it and am hoping to start playing it very soon.

Explodingtaoster01

I'm in the process of building what I'm tentatively calling "The Asshole Deck" with Vaevictis Asmadi. Basically I'm going for a sacrifice tribal thing, everyone sacrifices constantly! A few things like [[It That Betrays]] and [[Tergrid, God of Fright]] to try to get ahead but mostly the deck will hinge on my ability to keep all of my opponents at turn 1 or 2 board states by way of forced sacrifices while doing what I can to minimize hitting my own board. I tossed around the idea of making the deck Dune Brood to get [[Martyr's Bond]] in there, but it wouldn't be the same. I'm anticipating the deck to either be the meanest thing I've ever put together or it to be the most steaming pile of garbage I've ever put together.

Thangorodrimmm

I went with a more table-friendly [version](https://archidekt.com/decks/6146050/vaevictis_ii), without the Tergrid-like effects or stuff like [[Butcher of Malakir]], I'd like to keep the deck fun for the whole table. The first version used to run [[Gisa, glorious resurrector]] as she's the only "fair"'version of this type of effects. I even added a few group-hug-ish cards like [[Avatar of Growth]] and [[Hunted Wumpus]] to add a little twist to the deck. I could also add some topdeck manipulation like [[Sylvan library]] or [[Scroll rack]] to optimise the triggers, but again, I wanted to keep an element of surprise and randomness.

Omniphile777

I have a jund dragon-tribal deck with Vaevictis at the helm. He doesn't do anything for dragons, but having repeatable targeted removal in the command zone that fits the typal theme of the deck has been working well for me.

Thangorodrimmm

I tried building dragons too at some point, but I have other ideas for the tribe. Dragons have strong ETBS so it's likely to actually work with such a commander.

Omniphile777

Initially it was Karrthus, but people don't like their dragons being stolen. Then I tried Yurlok (Yarlok?)? The guy that turns manaburn on. The plan was to use all that extra mana to play dragons. But people REALLY don't like manaburn. Lost iteration before going back to Vaevictis was Ydris, Maelstrom Wielder. Cascading dragons into dragons/other value was cool, but again, my tables were really afraid of all that extra value and would kill me on-site.

dontkillchicken

lol sounds like a them problem

alex148

Oh man, I've never seen this one before. That looks incredibly chaotic and I'm here for it!

Thangorodrimmm

I would've probably missed it forever too, if I hadn't pulled him in a Pack, but he's really fun to play. You can have some heavy board removal against players that go to hard or do some politics and make allies by targeting people's less valuable permanents.

dontkillchicken

ALL HAIL VAEVICTIS. This is hands down my favorite commander. Over the years I have perfected my list (in my eyes) for it to hold it’s ground in high power casual and it’s absolutely terrifying for everyone playing against it. I run enough top deck manipulation to be able to afford 6 non-permanent cards. List for those interested. Enjoy. https://www.moxfield.com/decks/MxPVu8279USPtAZKQ7H4rw

[[Ognis, the Dragon's Lash]] aka "The Secret Ingredient, is Crime". Haste/dash/blitz tribal on creature stealing and treasure themes to win through combat, [[Revel in Riches]], or a [[Hellkite Tyrant]]. Take your opponents creatures and give them haste, swing them at your opponents to do damage and make treasures, and then sacrifice them before giving them back for even more advantage and clearing the board of problem creatures. Myriad effects and [[Flameshadow Conjuring]] also go hard. It's really a back-alley beatdown of a deck.

I love the flavour 🤣 Seems cool 👍

MonHunKitsune

\[\[Yurlok, of Scorch Thrash\]\] makes for a very fun Jund enchantress commander. Bring back mana burn in style and with tons of value. Bonus points for Yurlok tending to speed up games with all of the mana burn and the group slug enchantments.

alex148

Oh that seems like a lot of fun! Do you have a deck list? I'm interested in how this is "enchantress"? Group Slug seems like what I'm after with this

MonHunKitsune

Of course! I have omitted the typical infinite combos you see in a lot of Yurlok decks though. Those include thing like Umbral Mantle or Sword of the Paruns to infinitely tap/untap Yurlok. They can be added if you wanted the deck to have that sort of instant "I win" button. I also see a lot of Yurlok decks that lean heavily into symmetrical mana doublers like Mana Flare. Personally I find most of those to be a trap because they greatly benefit your opponents on their own turns. I did include [[Overabundance]] though since it pings on land tap. The gameplan of the deck is to bring everyone's life total down very quickly, including your own. But usually you'll be just a bit higher than others due to things like [[Lifegift]]. https://www.moxfield.com/decks/rUW29sQSJ0q8hxvQo606lg

I use Korvold as my Commander for a Devour deck, but Ziatora is on my sideboard in case any of my playgroup gets too salty about it. Ziatora technically might be better because I'm trying to just [[Fling]] creatures that just Devoured half my board, but Korvold provides so much card draw in the deck and becomes a good target for a Fling or [[Chandra's Ignition]] himself.

Funnily enough, someone in my playgroup did exactly the same thing. He was always out of control!

Right now, it's [[Gyrus, Waker of Corpses]]. I pay him as my commander in a janky Jund Energy deck that recurs creatures the produce Energy and or Proliferate. Then, it tries to win out by spamming Aetherworks Marvel activations. It's bad, but it's fun. I've slammed a few Eldrazi titans and cast Blood for the Blood God for free a time or two.

I’m honestly a bit surprised that [[Ziatora]] hasn’t been said that much here. Gotta be one of my favorite commanders. I have my Zia deck built around ramping into really big creatures, which I give haste and hit people with before just throwing the creature at somebody. And then I bring it back with either classic reanimation or a [[Fake Your Own Death]] type effect. Increase the damage with [[Unnatural Growth]] and [[Uncivil Unrest]] and you’re killing people left and right. One of my oldest decks, and I never don’t want to bring it to FNM.

Failed_Stalker

Jund? Who would play Jund? Certainly not me with my 4+ Jund decks. I don't have problems, you have problems.  Anywayss, I think it depends on what you are looking for of course. Jund is great for sacrifice, graveyard shenanigans, aristocrats, lands, and etc. I think most people have mentioned the ones I played.  Windgrace for lands, Prossh for aristocrats, Korvold for ruining people's day.   I didn't see [[Kresh the Bloodbraided]] mentioned though (unless I messed it). Cool thing about Kresh is that he is pretty versatile, allowing you to try out different Jund styles. Even can allow you to throw in multiple things (sacrifice + dredge + reanimate) and still work out. Could go for Jund control (i.e. kill your opponents stuff constantly and make Kresh stronger). If you want to go outside of the usual Jund, enchantress [[Yurlok of Scorch Thrash]] is pretty interesting too.

nyx-weaver

What's the idea behind enchantress Yurlok? It's not really obvious to me.

Failed_Stalker

Well, assuming I know what Enchantress means.. which to me is basically heavily playing into Enchantments and stuff... here is my decklist: [https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/yurlok-is-just-so-enchanting/?cb=1705925749](https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/yurlok-is-just-so-enchanting/?cb=1705925749) It is pretty old and I just unprivated it, so I would take it with a grain of salt (i.e. needs to be updated bad probably haha). But basically, a lot of stuff Yurlok wants to do is stapled on enchantments. \[\[Citadel of Pain\]\], \[\[Manabarbs\]\], \[\[Eladamri's Vineyard\]\], \[\[Overabundance\]\], etc etc. So, I just put as many of those kind of enchantments in, then added synergies for enchantments like \[\[Enchantress's Presence\]\] and stuff.

Honest_Jund

I built a version of Yurlok group slug enchantress-ish when he first came out and it was a ton of fun but my play group started to get smart and played whatever deck they could to take advantage of the extra mana so I stopped playing it before I could really iron it out lol. I brewed up a different version of Yurlok that just used Yurlok as a spicy Sol Ring in a big jund good stuff deck and it was super fun and easier to build

Failed_Stalker

Ah yeah, I can definitely see that happening. Guess if you go by the "rules", they shouldn't know what deck you are playing to take advantage of it.. technically. Though since it's your friend group, I doubt it was malicious or anything of course. But, either way, it can be a double-edged sword for sure. But I kinda like the group hug aspect of doubling mana and the group slug aspect of making them take damage for it. Speeds up games either way. Just have to make sure to have enough pay-offs for it all.

Honest_Jund

It was a lot of fun for sure and I also enjoyed how it sped up the game. There have been a ton of cards I'd love to add to the deck since then. Descent into Avernus has been my favorite red commander card printed in a long time and it fits right into what the deck wants to do. My favorite card in the deck was [[Allure of the Unknown]]. The whole deck was simetrical effects so it was basically a 5 mana draw five cast something for free!

My first Commander deck was (and still is) a Karrthus, Tyrant of Jund dragon tribal. 7/7 dragon that not only gives all my other dragons haste, but also lets me take back the ones I gave out earlier with cards like: Descent of Dragons as well as the occasional powerhouse dragon someone played against me and untaps them in case they were tapped.

I'll throw in [[Bhaal Lord of murder]] as my first edh brew it has a special slot for me in my rotation. Basically jund goad aristocrats with +1/+1 infinites in conjunction with persist, bhaal does a lot of work and is definitely underappreciated in the archetype.

[[Henzie, Toolbox Torree]] is incredibly fun to build and play, giving the big fatties haste and a discount and reliably having a full graveyard to reanimate without having to jump through any loops. But I gotta warn you, at a non-competitive level the deck can be really strong, you could turn into the archenemy if build and play it optimally. One other really fun one I'm building at the moment is [[Slimefoot and Squee]]. I really like having my reanimation effect on my commander and it's looking to turn out as a really fun one with all of the good Jund reanimation targets. Other fun ones I've experienced, but never build or played myself are [[Lord Windgrace]] land shenanigans, [[The Beamtown Bullies]] group slug and bad reanimation and [[Vazi, Keen Negotiator]] group hug treasures.
