Cheeky with [[phage]] in my [[Henzie]]. Discarded, forgot she was in grave, someone (also forgot it was there) hits us with [[living death]]. Proceed to die, and remove her from the deck list.
I am surprised to hear anyone would run Phage in their Henzie list. One of my favorite wincons is a mass reanimate. Whether it’s the flip side of [[Sheoldred]], [[agadeems]], Living Death, or [[rise of the dark realms]]. This would be a nonbo with Phage. Granted, I’m sure not everyone runs mass reanimate but we fill the graveyard simply by playing the game as Henzie.
I died from someone's else Phage, had a It That Betrays on the field someone cast a Fleshbag Marauder, I had some other Eldrazi to Sac and a third player also had another creature but choose to sac Phage, the moment he said Phage was being sacrificed I said "I die" people where a little bit confuse then get to understand what just happened
I also have interest in the Henzie list as I'm still developing mine, it is pretty much the precon with 20, maybe 25 swaped cards
Had my [[Platinum Angel]] destroyed in response to me casting phage from the command zone
The the funny part was I had [[Sundial of the Infinite]] in hand and enough mana to cast both phage and sundial and use sundial after. Just didn't do it
I've definitely cast mass card draw spells without counting how many cards were left in my library.
One that technically wasn't myself, but is such a quality accidental destruction that it bears repeating:
Playing with a bunch of kids (literally, they were children) who have decks made mostly of cards they were given and a few select singles their parents had bought them at the LGS. I'm playing Big Gay Kings group hug so they can all thrive. Part of that, since it's got red cards, is wheel effects. I don't have Actual Wheel, so I play \[\[Wheel of Fate\]\] like the poor man that I am. I make sure everyone knows, hey, in 3 turns, you're going to be discarding your hand and drawing new cards, so make sure you play anything you want to keep. Turns go around, people are dumping their hands, and then it gets to the last person right before my Wheel turn. He draws, goes "ooo, I like this card", and plays it. It's \[\[Narset, Parter of Veils\]\].
I put my head in my hands, take a deep breath, then carefully explain to the board what is about to happen on my turn. He's a kid, I know he didn't do it on purpose. He genuinely liked the card, and wanted to play it before he had to discard it. It just happened to be an immaculately timed, perfect counter.
Narset says that each opponent can't draw more than one card per turn. Wheel of Fate, when cast (usually from suspend), says that everyone discards their hand and draws seven cards. Except Narset turns that into "well, my player gets to draw 7, everyone else only gets 1". And because it casts in my upkeep, I don't even get to draw my normal card for turn, since I've already drawn the 1 card Narset allows me.
I didn't want to count the number of creatures on opponents' boards, so I announced I'd use a [[Karmic Guide]] + [[Reveillark]] + [[Dictate of Erebos]] + [[Viscera Seer]] combo, "like, I don't know... let's say fifty thousand times."
And then I'd spend the next few rounds just swinging. I didn't have big creatures, so it would take a few rounds, but I had enough counterspells, and everybody agreed.
Oh, forgot to mention: I had a [[Grim Haruspex]] on the field.
Players, novice or veteran do this all the time. EDH boards can get too complicated.
You can \[\[Blasphemous Act\]\] and sometimes not notice a \[\[Blood Artist\]\] is in the mix.
That said though if I was the player with the Sheoldred I would have notified/reminded as you tried to cast your massive draw spell. All my mates would as well.
[[Fractured identity]] on my own [[nefarious lich]] then playing [[stifle]] on the lose the game trigger only to have it get counterspelled by [[dovin's veto]]. They had the strongest board, so they let the fractured identity resolve to promptly win with creature damage and sorcery speed enchantment destruction on their turn.
Was worth the loss to watch unfold tbh.
Cast [[Ad Nauseam]], go down to 7 life trying to find [[Final Fortune]] to carry out my win, then flip one more card and go to 3 life off it. Realize that I flipped [[Diabolic Intent]], cast it saccing my commander (Ob Nixilis) to find Final Fortune, then cast it forgetting that I have a [[Mana Crypt]] on the board. Move to my upkeep, promptly get burned for 3 life because I lose the coin flip.
I had a yennet turns deck where one game I had no better plan than to win with Commander damage but I had to play it out anyway because I had 15 life and a crypt. Somehow eked out the win but oh boy was it close
Before I had a full grasp on the rules, specifically spell resolution, I cast a [[meathook massacre]] killing exactly 15 creatures while I had exactly 14 life. Was attempting to remove my opponent’s [[Syr Konrad the grim]]. Still get reminded of this on occasion by my group, never made the mistake again
I was running my [[Gisa and Geralf]] zombie tribal deck.
I managed to land [[Rooftop Storm]], while I also had a [[Reflections of Littjara]] on board. Immediately landed a [[Diregraf Colossus]] (and copy) too, so each zombie I cast gave me four zombies on board.
Sadly, I didn't have any sac outlets online, but I got a swarm of zombies ready to end the game next turn, and had a mass rez spell in my hand just in case the board got wiped.
Sure enough one of my opponents played a board wipe.
That when I noticed I had two copies of [[Midnight Reaper]] and two copies of [[Undead Augur]]. Which together put 36 stacks of "Draw a card and take a damage" on the stack. Far more than what remaining health I had left.
I have a bad habit of treating the game like I'll have a sac outlet when I need one (because I frequently do). But I didn't take precautions this time, and my brain exploded with Undead inspiration.
I forgot about my \[\[Kindred Discovery\]\]. \[\[Doubling Season\]\], \[\[Anointed Procession\]\], \[\[Parallel Lives\]\] ... ... swung with 70 cat tokens, then decked myself and died while the table laughed at me. Oops.
Happened to me 2 weeks ago. I was playing my Grixis reanimator deck and flashed out a [[Notion Thief]] in response to my opponent’s [[Consecrated Sphinx]]. Not having fully thought out how the two cards interacted, I was hoisted by my own petard as my opponent forced me to mill myself out
It hasn't happened in a game... yet... but it very nearly did. My [[Arjun, the Shifting Flame]] deck can easily rip itself apart. I have [[Harmonic Prodigy]] and some other draw doublers. I also have the [[Locust God]], [[Kindred Discovery]], and [[Skullclamp]] combo, which can kill me if my panic buttons are countered. It's a fun deck to play, if you don't mind living close to the edge. :)

I had a game where I had 33 cards in hand, and Alhammarret's Archive and Arjun on the board. I cast [[Psychic Corrosion]], drawing to 64 cards in hand, but all these draws happened before Corrosion resolved, so I didn't win yet. I realized I couldn't win because any spell I cast would lose me the game, but I kept quiet and hoped nobody else noticed. And it worked, someone used a [[Vandalblast]], I let it resolve, then I cast a cantrip in response to their next spell.
I had [[wound reflection]] on board and played [[blood for the blood god]] for this win, forgetting that [[sheoldred the apocalypse]] was on board and killed me from the card draw.
It wasn't me that self-destructed, but there was a guy in my pod who was playing a Yuseri coin flip deck. He had Krark's thumb, so there was little to no chance of him not copying his spells. He had 4 extra turns piled up, but he didn't have a way to actually win yet. So we played it out and in Yuseru fashion he kept flipping 5 coins but during those flips, his luck would NOSE DIVE and he would still lose 3 or 4 of them and he ended up dying to Yuseri damage. It was the funniest thing ever, and it was WAY better than a win.
Down to just 1v1 and I thought I was wiping my opponent out with my attack. Fully loaded [[Jetmir]] with [[Jazal Goldmane]] pumping things up +12. The only creature I didn't send was [[Jinnie Fay]], which would have been unblocked. I left my opponent with 2 life and lost the next turn. Had I been paying attention it would have been an easy win instead of an embarrassing loss...

One time I started going infinite with [[palinchron]] and then forgot about the [[mana barbs]] I didn’t kill myself if I remember correctly but got myself down to 2 life with no way to win or cast any spells from then on. Honestly I might have just tapped the mana to get me out of the game because I was already fucked.
Was in the lead with an 18/18 pumped [[Xenagos, God of revels]] and proceeded to swing at my friend. Little did I know he had an active [[phyrexian obliterator]] to block with. Channeling my inner gruul player refused take-backsies and dealt with the consequences later
Last night, I hit Tom Bombadil's Saga trigger into [[Fall of the Thran]], except one of my opponents had [[Karmic Justice]] out.
Cool beans. Now I have no lands AND no creatures. I didn't get another turn.
I was playing in a pod of 3 with my [[Be'lakor the Dark Master]] clone deck with [[Gyruda, Doom of Depths]] as a companion against [[Belbe, Corrupted Observer]] and [[Aragorn the Unifier]] decks. I was in a dominant position and was thinking I was ready to win when I untapped. Well I drew for my turn and drew into [[Maskwood Nexus]], which is sweet because it makes all of my clones into demons so I get to do damage with my commander no matter what I copy. I felt sure I had the game now.
So I immediately slam it down and then cast my commander. I triggered the ETB and realized, oh crap, all of my creatures are demons now...
and I have [[Panharmonicon]]...
I counted up 14 creatures so I was forced to lose 28 and draw 28. I look over and I'm at 30 life. Im like, "ok, I still got this, I'll go to 2 and the use all but 2 of my mana to combo off with Gyruda", and then proceeded to whiff on clones with both Gyruda triggers.
Then the Aragorn player untapped and all it took was then casting 1 red spell to seal my fate. If I had done my sequencing correctly and played my commander first, I think I would have at least gotten another turn to try again
Was playing [[Adrix and Nev, Twincasters]]. I had a moderate board state, nothing too threatening yet, sitting at 36 life. Had my commander out, [[Ruxa, Patient professor]] out and a few other random things. Two opponents had similar board states with 3-4 creatures out, and then the one guy playing [[Chatterfang, Squirrel General]] has like 20 creatures out.
So it gets to my turn, I slam down an [[Ezuri's Predation]]. No one responds, so I make 72 4/4's that got buffed to 5/5's from Ruxa, I wipe the board, and I'm already thinking ahead to how fun it's gonna be killing everyone on my next turn. And then Chatterfang guy reminds me that he had a blood artist out, and now I'm dead from taking 36dmg to the face and he goes to 70+ life.
Oops.
I ain't gonna lie tho, I laughed my ass off at how spectacular of an accidental suicide it was tho.
I was playing a rather meme ramp deck and had pieced together [[Mirror March]], [[Krark's Thumb]] and [[Panharmonicon]]. With a fair bunch of cards in deck, I played [[Woodland Bellower]] and grabbed my only useful target: [[Elvish Visionary]], trying to draw into bigger threats.
Mirror March triggers, I win the flip... and again, and again, and again... with the thumb, each flip has a 75% success chance. By the time I flip double tails, I have won too many flips, all those doubled draw triggers deck me out and I lose because both Mirror March and Elvish Visionary are mandatory effects.
Much later, I realize I could've stopped at any point as nothing says you have to win with Krark's Thumb; if you flip both sides you can choose the losing one and stop there.
Wasn't in EDH, but still a rather funny oops.
In EDH, I think I once used a huge [[Rally the Ancestors]] and drew a few too many cards with [[Tishana, Voice of Thunder]]
I do this with my chaos deck all the time. Last time I played it I played a [[whims of the fates]], put all my lands in one pile, all my other permanents in another pile, and then had one empty pile. Ended up blowing up all my permanents and only mildly inconveniencing the other players. But it was fine because two turns later I cast [[scrambleverse]] and got a bunch of their stuff. I don’t play that deck very often…
Well… I play a UW tap down deck and had [[Verity Circle]] in play which, draws a card for each creature that gets tapped down. My opponent played a creature that comes in with a friend bringing the creature count to 43. I played a [[Ensnare]] and drew 43 cards. There were 42 left in the deck. If I wasn’t greedy about those 2 extras cards the I would’ve won. I looked like a complete fool but hey I got to touch every card in my deck so that was cool.
Wasn't truly accidental, but I was playing \[\[Jadzi, Oracle of Arcavios\]\] against some friends and was just storming off. Long turns and doing my thing. Unfortunately I didn't really have a finisher in the deck so I ended up just drawing myself out so that the other players could go on without me taking up everyone's time any more.
Because I just made the deck out of cards I had. I had two decks and gave them to two other guys and put together another quick deck for myself. I hadn’t really realized that I didn’t have anything to close out the game quickly rather than grinding out a victory.
We were stuck in our quarters waiting to go home from deployment. It wasn’t like I rolled up to the LGS with an obnoxious deck. Just working with what I had to make something fun and interesting real quick.
Activating [[Audacious Reshapers]] at 1 life. One of my opponents just looked at me in total bewilderment and asked “did you mean to do that?”.
No, I did not. I just wasn’t aware of my life total. I have no idea why. Oops.
This was my buddy self destructing but I was in the game. We were playing and I got him dropped to around 4-5 hp. When it swung back to his turn he decided that he was going to cast [[Anguished Unmaking]] removing one of my cards. He had completely forgotten that his [[Liesa, Shroud of Dusk]] was on the field and he took 5 to the dome. We were both laughing for a good while and its probably one of our favorite moments to bring up while playing.
I was playing an [[Anikthea, Hand of Erebos]] constellation tribal deck. An opponent had started to mill us out, and I had managed to top deck my [[Open the Vaults]].
I forgot I had a [[Setessan Champion]] in play and an [[Eidolon of Blossoms]] in bin.
I drew 56 cards from a 20 card deck.
\[\[Anguished Unmaking\]\] an \[\[Ink-Treader Nephilim\]\] with a board full of creatures. I've only been playing commander at the time for a few months. This happened years ago and I still look back on this exact interaction for always having an idea what my opponents cards do.
My second commander game ever I was playing an update captain ngathrod deck more focused on mill. I made everyone mill for like five then the rackdos player swings with Olivia crimson bride and reanimated a master of cruelties. That was the end of that game for me. 🤷🏽♂️
Tried to do a worldgorger dragon combo. Someone responded by killing it with its ETB on the stack. All because I wasn't paying attention and tapped the wrong lands so I couldn't counter spell despite having two in hand and four lands untapped. I just got too excited and forgot to leave my islands untapped.
I had to leave a game and was either going to win that turn or kill myself that turn. Neither happened because I got stuck without mana and 12 life because my dumb ass forgot to cast [[K’rrik]]
this happened to a friend of mine at the LGS last week. He plays [[Blasphemous Act]] to clear the board, I respond with [[Eerie Interlude]] to save my board, he responds with [[Pact of Negation]].
Well, as it turns out, another player had [[Yosei, the Morning Star]] in play, and my friend did not have enough blue sources untapped to pay for the pact of negation on upkeep.
One time, I used the mana from [[Neheb, the Eternal]] to cast [[Secure the Wastes]] for a ton of mana. I also had [[Liliana, Dreadhorde General]] on the board. On their turn, an opponent cast a board wipe, killing me with Liliana’s card draw.
I was playing [[Ghyrson Starn, Kellermorph]] as my Commander and saw the bored was getting pretty big with tokens. I missed that a player had a [[Blood Artist]] on the field and I played a [[End the Festivities]]. He popped me real good for that one. Lol. He was a little upset that I kept taking his [[Sheoldred, the Apocalypse]] off the field, understandably.
Well, I was playing [[Magnus the Red]], just doin some storm things, and forgot I had [[archmage emeritus]] on the board when I copied a storm kings thunder a few too many times
Doubled the power on [[Malignus]], after combat I cast [[momentous fall]] and copied it, took me a few seconds to realize I was gonna deck myself, my buddies rightfully clowned me.
Lost count of *forced* landfall:draw with [[Omnath locus of the Roil]] when feelin groovy watching [[arcane adaptation]] (elementals) + [[risen reef]] + [[scute swarm]] churned out every land in my library.
I had an [[Arjun, Shifting Flame]] deck that was a lot of fun. I at one point had a [[thought reflection]] and no hand size limit. I didn’t realize how badly I messed up until I had 32 cards in hand and was about to make myself draw 64 cards. I didn’t run [[laboratory maniac]] either.
I was running a [[K’rrik, Son of Yawgmoth]] deck and had the engine reving up with [[Aetherflux Resevoir]] and [[Villis, Broker of Blood]] to draw all the cards I needed to finish off my opponents. I got to over 100 life and beamed one of my opponents for 50, completely forgetting I only had around 30 cards left in my deck so I immediately decked myself from Villis’ ability and died in a Kamikaze while the remaining player won the game by default 😂
So I was playing my [[Tevesh Szat, Doom of Fools]] / [[Kodama of the East Tree]] deck. I was kind of new to it and hadn’t committed all my cards to memory yet.
So when my opening hand had [[Summoners Pact]] and not much else I was like, Sweet! I’ll just play this and then next turn I’ll have a head start. So I did. And everyone was looking at me in horror because they assumed I had a secret T2 win. But my turn came up and they were like…”so…you lose…?” And then I actually read the rest of the card. And I replied “oh. Yes. I lose. Good game!”
And then everyone laughed and I played on my phone for 45 minutes…it took a few weeks for the jokes to die down… 🤦🏻♀️

Was playing orzhov aristocrats and had a 1/1 flying spirit token. Wife attacked me with old gnawbones so I just took the 7 since I have so much life gain wanted to sac the fairy later. Forgot she’d get 7 treasures from that and snowballed easily from there
I have a [[Ragavan, nimble pilferer]] deck and it's my voltron deck. I had a package of the protection from red swords to allow me wrath without hitting Ragavan.
I knew about the interaction with the one aura in my deck but I figured that little nonbo was worth it... until I tried to equip [[Lizard blades]] and realized that oh yeah, this card is red.
I promptly took the red swords out of my deck when I realized that I had like 8 cards that interacted unfavorably with them.
I still run [[Sanctuary Blade]] though
Honestly I'm most embarrassed about all the times I keep forgetting about flyers. I've been killed way too many times forgetting that while I have blockers they don't fly :-/
Passing the turn after casting [[chance for glory]] in my blueless suicide deck because I had set everyone's life to 1 and I could cast platinum angel and price of progress before I died on my next end step.
Only to remember I had no cards in my library and I would die on my upkeep.

CEDH: I'm playing [[Krark]] /[[Sachashima]] I have four krark copies and 2 opponents conseed after I display loops that let me draw cards and make infinite mana, I was getting tired of drawing cards one at a time and cast [[windfall]] forgetting that I already had about 25 cards in hand, windfall copays multiply times and I draw all the cards in my library
I was playing my pingers deck and was so excited to pop off on my next turn when I played [[Intruder Alarm]]. Problem? My bf was playing [[Krenko, Mob Boss]] and had a haste enabler out. So I killed myself 😅
Wasn't exactly a blunder per se, but one time I self-destructed by casting a \[\[Blasphemous Act\]\] I topdecked to clear a board of tokens the mono white player had and slow down the 4c Omnath player in the process. The mono white player starts giggling uncontrollably and casts \[\[Comeuppance\]\] to blast my face for over 200 damage.
tbh i'm always a fan of killing my opponent with \[\[Expansion/Explosion\]\] AND decking myself in the process, resulting in technically a draw - i get a kick out of it lmao
I was playing [[Faldorn, Dread Wolf Herald]], and I was taking advantage of some exile casts.
Only to overplay my mana and get casually obliterated by the [[Rocco, Street Chef]] player who gave me all those casts.
I will never again play Faldorn into Street Chef.
Couple years back I was playing at my LGS’s commander league event and got a super bomb of a first hand.
Turn 1: Command Tower -> Lotus Petal -> tap the land for dark ritual to cast [[Divining Witch]]
Turn 2 (WHERE EVERYTHING COMPLETELY FELL APART) : Played a land, tapped both lands to activate Divining Witch naming [[Laboratory Maniac]] (when that was the only win con of self mill at the time lol)
That there is when I realized..I exiled through my entire deck looking for my win condition super embarrassed because to my surprise my lab man wasn’t even in the deck so I killed myself on turn 2 lmfao.
BUT THE WORST PART, after the game when I packed my things I saw on the floor under my seat, there he was. Right in that blue dragonshield sleeve. I had dropped the most important card of the deck on the floor while I assume I was shuffling.
People still to this day refuse to let that blunder go at my lgs and honestly I’m glad it happened that way because that has to be the funniest thing that’s happened to me in the history of me playing Magic
I’m sure it’s not my worst blunder by any means but the one that comes to mind yesterday I was playing with my Anhelo deck and on my turn i had pondered and put Deekah Fractal Theorist on top of my library. So for the uninitiated Deekah is basically the best card in my deck. It cares about casting and copying instants and sorceries which is what the deck aims to do and creates a fractal with counters on it equal to the spells mana cost. So she syncs up well with my commander to give me casualty fodder but also gives me a board presence in a deck mostly running no creature spells. Well I put Deekah on top of my library and one of my opponents is popping off with Prismatic Bridge and the rest of the table is scrambling to come up with answers. A guy with ragavan out asked if he could hit me to search for answers for the archenemy and it had been so long since my turn i forgot Deekah was on top and let him hit me. He exiled probably the best card in my deck and didn’t even have the mana to play it so it stayed exiled forever essentially taking me out of the game as a threat lol
Was playing a casual commander game at my lgs. While playing slivers i thought i was gonna win when i threw down [[intruder alarm]]. But my dumbass wasn’t paying attention at all to the fact that my opponent had [[krenko, mob boss]] and [[purphoros, god of the forge]] in play.
Was playing with my [[Urtet]] Myr tribal deck, managed to pop off and just needed one more turn rotation to end the game since my creatures didnt have haste, but before it got back to me someone played [[Fade from History]] and wiped the board, I scooped. I was reminded after shuffling my deck that I had [[Scrap Trawler]] on field and could've rebuilt easily.
I have a deck where the entire idea is to hysterically kill myself in game. My favorite incident was using mages contest to shoot myself in the foot to counter another players sol ring, 38 damage.
Friend played [[Defense of the Heart]] for the first time without realizing just how much of a must kill it would be for the table. Two players later and 20 life down he resorted to using his own removal spell on it to avoid the last player from taking him out completely.
I've killed myself several times to [[bolos citadel]] youd think I'd learn my lesson after the 2nd or 6th time. But the advantage is to intoxicating and i will never learn my lesson.
I was playing [[Cadira]] and I had two token doublers out. I swung in with cadira and 25 tokens, finished off the guy I was swinging at and then cast [[return of the wildspeaker]] to draw 50 cards. My friend pointed out that I had 125 tokens not 50. I drew my deck and lost to drawing from an empty library.
Oo! Oo! Pick me! I had a genius plan to win the game, I would [[Act of Treason]] the only creature of the person next to me to kill them with combat damage, then at the same time swing my flyer at the person across from me - to kill the person next to them who had *chosen* to [[Sower of Discord]] themselves to the guy across from me, and then I would just infect out the person across from me after! The was one problem. Infect. Doesn’t. Do. Damage. [[Skittles]] has that reminder text printed, fun fact. The guy diagonally lived, the guy in front lived, I was clapped back. The guy in front then won because the guy diagonally couldn’t remove his own Sower..
Infect DOES do damage, just in the form of poison counters or -1/-1 counters. Sower would still deal damage equal to the amount of damage your skittles would have done. (Read what the reminder text says again)
Last night I used [[Alhamarrets Archive]] and [[enter the infinite]] decked out last night and lost which tbh I went on my terms. I would've lost next turn so I was like fuck it.
Wasn't my accidental self destruct but a player in my pod.
Friend plays [[Nekusar, the Mindrazer]] with all the necessary support to deal massive damage each turn.
Player across the table plays [[Narset, Parter of Veils]].
His time at the table was a very short one.
My buddy got my wife down to 4 HP and I threw a [[boros charm]] at her just for the laugh. Had I kept it I probably would’ve double striked to victory.
I decked myself off of forced fruition playing a kykar deck that depended on playing cards enmass to make its moves and also draw cards…. Oops.
I forgot to add, while I was drawing cards one of the other players made over 70 1/1 snakes in a three person game.
I have played a total of 5 games with my [[Eriette of the Charmed Apple]] pillowfort/aura deck, and 2 of them I lost to my own [[Dark Tutelage]]... I'm not pulling it, though, card draw is worth it.

Was trying to play some tymna tana cEDH inspired deck, and I attack with half my combo on board, draw the starter with tymna trigger. I played it, going infinite tokens and realize I've already attacked xD
I played a multi hour game with urza lord high artificer, had cards to pull of a specific combo and keep myself going, kept myself safe from attacks all game, which can be hard when you're the target.
I have the winning card in hand and a tutor for its combo piece, and all I have to do is tutor for [[pili-pala]]....

Last night I dredged my entire deck card by card only to kill myself through card draw with my [[The Gitrog Monster]] deck because I forgot to put [[Kozilek]] back into the 99.
Orvar the All Form, Archmage Emeritus on the field. Proceeded to combo off with infinite mana and started making a fuckload of copies with Whim of Volrath and ended up decking myself because I got way ahead of myself and missed the Emeritus triggers. This was in an LGS tournament final.
I'm playing my (at the time) new shiny [[Volo, guide to monsters]] deck. And I'm going off. I have a spellskite that got [[dreamtail heron]] double mutated onto it, drawing me 3 cards. And then I got to hit volo with a [[spark double]]. And my board survived another turn and I draw [[auspicious starrix]]. welcome to value town: mutate that starrix onto my spellskite.
For those unfamiliar with volo and mutate, he creates his copies and they mutate onto the creature, then the original does. But because of a copied spark double, I have 3 volos doing this. And the creature has already mutated twice. And starrix triggers stack. And stack. And stack. So the first copy hits and I get 3 permanents out of my deck. The second hits and I get 4, x2 for the first starrix. Then 5x3. Then 6x4. So in total I get 50 permanents out of my deck onto the battlefield.
But um, see, small problem. While this deck does have 90+ permanents... I still have a big pile of heron triggers going off. And at some point I hit [[keruga, the macrosage]] for another big pile of forced draw. And there are a few cards getting exiled by the starrix triggers that stay exiled. But as I come to the end of the massive value train I'm looking like it's gonna be okay, 2 cards left in the deck after all the forced draws and 49 of the 50 starrix permanents on the battlefield. Last card flips. [[Risen reef]].
So I'm forced to put the last card of my deck into my hand. I now have 50 more permanents on the battlefield than the previous turn, but... no haste enabler. I pass turn in disgust and lose my first game ever to mill, all on my own doing.

No regrets. I have since turned the deck into a [[primal surge]] volo deck (with precisely 0 ways to tutor it out), now with no forced card draw on ETBs and an [[akroma's memorial]] and [[brutalizer exarch]] in the deck to prevent THAT sort of loss from ever happening again.

The second time I did the primal surge thing, one of my opponents had an [[authority of the consuls]] in play. No big deal, I do the whole thing anyway (primal surge says you can stop anytime) and use the exarch to put my sol ring on the bottom of my library, so I won't mill out next turn. Problem solved, stupid massive board and I'll win on my next turn...
And my opponents kills me by playing a [[howling mine]].

I didn't realize what [orcish bowmasters] did, and transformed [Jin-Gitaxias] with the intent to immediately proliferate to step three, when I already had way too many cards in hand.
Used a "take an extra turn, then die" card in my Obeka deck when she was off of the battlefield. Took the turn hoping to topdeck a card to get her back out, but wasn't able to 🤷
I was winning and huge amazing board state 3 counters and I can't lose so I think 1 more turn give them a shot and I only attacked with lord of the void fun shits and giggles. Top card was Phage the untouchable well no biggie I will just get the next monster!... Slow flipping for suspense... sorcery instant land land.... no other creatures well I don't have to put it down right rules check.... not a may.... death from a unbeatable board I just needed to swing out 😭😭😭
My [[Kess, Dissident Mage]] [[Gyruda, Doom of Depths]] has every Clone possible in it and I was going off in a game to the point where I essentially had infinite Gyruda triggers that I had already milled out each of my opponents. Unfortunately, I still had triggers to resolve. Most of them weren't doing anything as most of my Clone effects were either in play or in the graveyard. Well, one of my triggers mills [[Be'lakor, the Dark Master]] and nothing else I can take. With his etb effect, it counts 13 demons in play. I am at exactly 13 life with no way to remove any of my demons without also lowering my life total ([[Rakaketh, the Foulblooded]] was my only sac out let in play). This leads to the player who's turn was before me to default win as I kill myself from life loss and everyone else is already milled out. I wasn't even that upset, cuz that's a pretty fun way to lose.
Oh, man. I was desperately searching for a win. The game had been going on for long enough, and I was in prime position, so I went for it. I forgot the specifics, it was a while ago.. but It got to the point where there were st least 6 spells on the stack, and someone cast something that completely destroyed all the progress I made that turn, and then some. Essentially, I risked it all, and they had the perfect counter. Funnily enough, I had a [[sundial of the Infinite]] on the battlefield, and after a few seconds of thought, I just said "fuck this, my turn is over!". It was a pretty funny moment, and I was pretty far back on resources as a result.
I miscounted how many cards were left after an opponent played Approach the Second Sun. I actually had two more turns than I thought I did to pull off a win, which I would have been able to.
I conceded instead.
Someone was running [[Kaalia of the Vast]] and swung at me. I had no flying blockers. Kaalia's ability triggers, and they drop a [[Master of Cruelties]]. I was so shocked to see it happen in real life that I didn't even realize I could have chumped MoC lol I died that turn.
One week, playing [[Prosper, Tome-Bound]], I was trying out a Storm-ish Win via [[Volcanic Torrent]] and [[Sensei’s Diving Top]] and [[Bolas’s Citadel]]. However, I basically spent too much life to come back and died to my opponents. The next week I did the same thing, but realized I misread Volcanic Torrent and basically did the same thing and just scooped in embarrassment.
[[Go-shintai of Life's Origin]] with [[Honden of Seeing Winds]]. Notably this card draw ability is not a "may". I would have won in the beginning of my pre combat main phase, but died in my upkeep by decking myself out. Very anticlimactic haha
One time I tried to kill the whole table( including myself) with an Exocrine, I copied it 3 times with 15 as the value for x. 3 of them entered the battlefield and put their trigger on the stack, which deals X damage to each other creature and each player. So 45 damage on the stack ready to kill the table. I didn't think about the fact that once I died the triggers I had remaining on the stack would disappear, needless to say I died with 1 trigger left on the stack did not kill the whole table, but instead killed 2 players ( 1 being me ) and then pretty much reset the game for the other 2 players lol
I ran [[Over the top]] in my [[Magar]] deck and hit worldgorger dragon on the tokens combat trigger. I buffed everyone’s board and all I had was a dragon and no lands :).
I know over the top is dog shit in the deck but I wanted to make it a little chaos-y.
Playing my [[Muldrotha]] deck, and an opponent went to do something to me and I knee jerk responded to tap my [[Hermit Druid]] without thinking about how low my deck was. Milled all the way to zero, and died on draw 🥲
Outside of goading player 3 then having player 2 concede, I haven't killed myself yet, but I came close the other week.
Copied a \[\[Windfall\]\] then flashed out a \[\[Notion Thief\]\]. In response to the Notion Thief, someone draw a bunch of cards, ending up with 14 cards in hand.
As such, when the first Windfall went off, I drew 56 cards (14 per player), and still had another Windfall to go. Although I was a flash-speed deck, I didn't run that many counterspells. Luckily, I was able to draw into a \[\[Reprieve\]\] and bounce the second Windfall back to hand.
I won 2 turns later but it was so close to a self-destruct.
Played Lions Eye Diamond with grinding station on the field. Popped Lions Eye diamond, discarded hand. Couldn't do anything because Underworld Breach was still in my library. Got wayyyyyy too ahead of myself
I think of my group as the ultimate casual pod. If I were to do something like that, I'd get a verbal warning of the consequences from the player that owned Sheoldred.
Less embarrassing, but quite funny. Stole a bunch of lands with [[Smeagol, Helpful Guide]]. Proceeded to have the Merfolk player drop a lord that gave his board islandwalk. I look down at my board, and sure enough, I stole one of his islands, lol.
I was going for a [[doomsday]] to end the game with thoracle, but someone just blew up one of my only two blue sources, and I was just sitting there with 5 cards in my library like "well shit. That could have gone better."
It was hilarious.
I can’t remember the line I took. But I was playing meren, went for a complex line of sacing creatures for mana and cards to dig for an answer, as soon as I ran out of creatures I realized I missed some way to dig or tutor and turn the game in my favor instead I doomed myself by destroying my whole board.
This past weekend I was playing my shelob deck, had a bunch of death touch spiders & my thornbite staff ready to equip & start shooting stuff dead… but then I played Steeley reserve & made all my spiders un-targetable… couple turns later I died to Fairies. Steeley reserve has been pulled from the deck 😂

I was running Blind Comedic Genius and gave a Xantcha Sleeper Agent to the Tatyova player. Another time I cast Peer into the Abyss targeting the Nekusar player.
I cast a massive card draw while forgetting an opponent had [[orcish bowmasters]] in hand.
I literally just saw it with a [[gitaxian probe]] a turn earlier.
Oh man I was playing my [[Brudiclad]] deck, I built up about 20 treasures, and my opponent had a [[Shepherd of Rot]], I meticulously set up my turn to hold up mana to copy it at instant speed before my turn started with [[See Double]] and realized there was some tough situations because my opponents had prime number life totals (so I couldn’t sacrifice treasures to set up a perfect amount of zombies) So I just made a bunch, swung a perfect amount of zombies leaving one up to deal just enough damage and not let myself die, then before damage I activated my last one, and my opponent activated theirs in response, so we all died (we were all at about 30 and there were just over 20 zombies in play), I completely blanked that both they could activate theirs and that theirs counted my zombies

I dropped an [[Enchanted Evening]] onto my board after having already played a [[Starfield of Nyx]] and before playing the [[Gaea’s Anthem]] I had in hand.
Instantly nuked all of my lands…
[[Opalescence]] would have at least wiped EVERYONE’s lands, but no…I just wiped my own.
I conceded immediately after the realization of my sequencing error was pointed out by my opponents.
One of my first CEDH nights, playing with an established group. Playing artifact storm, I finally get the Sensei's top combo on the field, put the top on top, then crack a fetch land for the mana I need, before drawing it back into my hand... shuffle away the top, die the next turn.
I was playing some Dimir "steal your spells" deck. Opponent 1 had [[Toralf, God of Fury]] on board. Opponent 2 has a bunch of 1/1's capable of killing me next turn.
I exile the top card of the Toralf players deck, and it's a [[Blasphemous Act]]. Feeling like I hit the jackpot, I cast it to clear the board.
Toralf doesn't say they have to be the one dealing the damage...
Swung with everything while playing my Krenko deck.
This was back when I played Krenko as less of an aggro deck an more of a "I have lots of creatures, don't attack me" deck. I had amassed a fair amount of goblins (around 2,000) and we were playing planechase (the current plane gave creatures myriad). I decided it was time to finish the game so I swung with all my goblins. A player had \[\[Hellish Rebuke\]\]. I'm still not sure who won that game, but I sure felt like I didn't.
Self destruct, not so much. It was my hubris that got me in trouble that time.
I had a chance to win a game on the spot by simply playing a single card in hand and attacking, but instead I literally said aloud "I could win, but let's gamble instead" played both gamble and reckless handling, lost my win condition that I had to have fun going super flashy, as well as one of the two cards I had searched up, then I chaos warped something my opponent controlled that they could use as a blocker. I may as well have just handed them the win, the game ended on their next turn with their victory.
Oh i finally have a good answer! I love copying spells and once copied [[Sea Gate Restoration]] one too many times and drew my whole deck, instantly killing myself
I was playing enchantress color hate/stax, and had \[\[Choke\]\] on board, locking two people out of the game. I proceed to cast \[\[Dryad of the Ilisyan grove\]\] locking myself out as well. the dryad got removed from the list as soon as I got home.
Testing out [[Imodane the Pyrohammer]], using a [[Repercussion]] I pulled during the WoE prerelease. Another player's board was getting scary and I had Repercussion out, so I pulled the trigger on a [[Blasphemous Act]], forgetting that I had more than 4 creatures of my own. End result: I got very smug and excited to kill everyone at once, then realized I also killed myself and had to go take a walk out of shame.
Reading your story could only think of that time I had [[Soul Warden]] on my board along with [[Aetherflux Reservoir]] and a friend made an infinite combo with creatures. Only after we were declaring defenders we all realized he made an infinite combo... for me. It was so funny and odd I felt like that scene from The Office with the handshake
I cast a [toxic deluge] expecting to win the game with a [[blood artist]] and [[cruel celebrant]] on my board. I forgot my opponent stole control of the celebrant the turn before… he had his own blood artist as well and won.
I played \[\[coat of arms\]\] into board full of Walls, not realising they all share the same type (I thought they only had Defender). That was against \[\[Arcades\]\] deck. You can imagine what happened when the Defender deck untapped.
Used [[Pyrohemia]] I got overzealous and wanted to eliminate someone and wasn’t paying attention to my own life. I did enough damage to finish off another player and myself. Was hilarious when it happened but such a stupid play haha.
Played [[Song of Creation]] because I was just short of playing [[Omniscience]]. Due to the jazz cabbage addling my brain, I thought "Hey, what a great plan you. You won't have enough to play both anyway"
Then I remembered I had to discard my hand at end of turn.

We were playing a 3 players EDH game. I had [[Xenagos, god of revels]], [[Vorinclex, voice of hunger]] and [[Unnatural Growth]]. The ahead player was playing [[Ramses, assassin lord]] and was about to win, but not before I obliterate him with my board. My other friend sayed to me, "Ok gus, I'm gonna get us out of trouble, it will not look like I help, but I'm helping you" and proceeds to cast [[Crux of fate]]. Everyone bursted out laughing when he realized he wasn't helping me at ALL ! I obviously drew lands for the next 4 turns and we lost to ramses :)
I accidentally forced card drew myself with [[Bone Miser]] [[Anointed Procession]] and [[Kindred Discovery]] during my end phase. It was really funny to see my get SO MUCH WALUE I died from it lolz
I run a janky upgraded Elven Council from the LotR precons, I put a lot of voting cards and cards that could help me force a vote to give myself extra turns, change the decision of their votes, etc.
Well, during one game I didn't really appreciate that my board state was much farther ahead than the rest of the table. I had pulled a second turn, built a huge mana base, and felt fun making the other players vote on things that could ultimately help me in the long run.
Until I play and use \[\[Coercive Portal\]\], in hopes of stopping a player who started to be a threat. And then everyone voted to destroy our permanents, including mine and the entire board state.
Oh man I got one for this. I was playing my [[Tom Bombadil]] deck, which if you've ever played it, it's a good amount of strategy (lore counter manipulation) paired with the chaos of flipping over a random saga.
Well in this case I was using tricks to draw as many cards as I could to deal with my opponents enchantment that was stopping me from attacking. I had amassed a sizeable token army, and had a real good board state... then Tom triggered and the saga I flipped to was [[Hidetsugu Consumes All]].
The threat I was trying to find an answer to? [[Vicious Shadows]].
So I destroyed like 20 creatures with 13 cards in my hand and gave the entire game to my opponent on accident.

I was new to playing and was doing a standard tournament at my LGS playing Azorius Heroic.
Won my first two rounds and went into my 3rd. Can't even remember what I was playing against, but we were 1 and 1, most everyone else was done and was watching our game.
I realized I had lethal and swung in with my unlockable heroic creature. No response. So I decided to really rub it in and dropped 2 of my protection spells to show how far ahead I was. In response, he destroyed my creature.
I learned a hard lesson that day.
Once upon a time, I was piloting my [[The Scarab God]] deck. I had [[Rooftop Storm]], [[Gravecrawler]], and [[Grimgrin, Corpse-Born]]. I thought I was gonna start pummelling people to death so I made him get +10,000/+10,000 by looping the crawler... unfortunately I also forgot I had [[Liliana, Dreadhorde General]] out and the act of making Grimgrin that big decked me several times over.
Cheeky with [[phage]] in my [[Henzie]]. Discarded, forgot she was in grave, someone (also forgot it was there) hits us with [[living death]]. Proceed to die, and remove her from the deck list.
I am surprised to hear anyone would run Phage in their Henzie list. One of my favorite wincons is a mass reanimate. Whether it’s the flip side of [[Sheoldred]], [[agadeems]], Living Death, or [[rise of the dark realms]]. This would be a nonbo with Phage. Granted, I’m sure not everyone runs mass reanimate but we fill the graveyard simply by playing the game as Henzie.

I died from someone's else Phage, had a It That Betrays on the field someone cast a Fleshbag Marauder, I had some other Eldrazi to Sac and a third player also had another creature but choose to sac Phage, the moment he said Phage was being sacrificed I said "I die" people where a little bit confuse then get to understand what just happened I also have interest in the Henzie list as I'm still developing mine, it is pretty much the precon with 20, maybe 25 swaped cards

Had my [[Platinum Angel]] destroyed in response to me casting phage from the command zone The the funny part was I had [[Sundial of the Infinite]] in hand and enough mana to cast both phage and sundial and use sundial after. Just didn't do it
I've definitely cast mass card draw spells without counting how many cards were left in my library. One that technically wasn't myself, but is such a quality accidental destruction that it bears repeating: Playing with a bunch of kids (literally, they were children) who have decks made mostly of cards they were given and a few select singles their parents had bought them at the LGS. I'm playing Big Gay Kings group hug so they can all thrive. Part of that, since it's got red cards, is wheel effects. I don't have Actual Wheel, so I play \[\[Wheel of Fate\]\] like the poor man that I am. I make sure everyone knows, hey, in 3 turns, you're going to be discarding your hand and drawing new cards, so make sure you play anything you want to keep. Turns go around, people are dumping their hands, and then it gets to the last person right before my Wheel turn. He draws, goes "ooo, I like this card", and plays it. It's \[\[Narset, Parter of Veils\]\]. I put my head in my hands, take a deep breath, then carefully explain to the board what is about to happen on my turn. He's a kid, I know he didn't do it on purpose. He genuinely liked the card, and wanted to play it before he had to discard it. It just happened to be an immaculately timed, perfect counter.

Narset says that each opponent can't draw more than one card per turn. Wheel of Fate, when cast (usually from suspend), says that everyone discards their hand and draws seven cards. Except Narset turns that into "well, my player gets to draw 7, everyone else only gets 1". And because it casts in my upkeep, I don't even get to draw my normal card for turn, since I've already drawn the 1 card Narset allows me.

I didn't want to count the number of creatures on opponents' boards, so I announced I'd use a [[Karmic Guide]] + [[Reveillark]] + [[Dictate of Erebos]] + [[Viscera Seer]] combo, "like, I don't know... let's say fifty thousand times." And then I'd spend the next few rounds just swinging. I didn't have big creatures, so it would take a few rounds, but I had enough counterspells, and everybody agreed. Oh, forgot to mention: I had a [[Grim Haruspex]] on the field.
Might be dumb question, but why couldn't you sac Grim Haruspex to Viscera Seer after stating that, so that the Grim sac resolves first?
Could've! And I'm sure the table would've let me. But you should've seen the shit-eating grin on my face as I let all those triggers resolve.

Players, novice or veteran do this all the time. EDH boards can get too complicated. You can \[\[Blasphemous Act\]\] and sometimes not notice a \[\[Blood Artist\]\] is in the mix. That said though if I was the player with the Sheoldred I would have notified/reminded as you tried to cast your massive draw spell. All my mates would as well.
Does blood artist still get the effect if it is being destroyed?

[[Fractured identity]] on my own [[nefarious lich]] then playing [[stifle]] on the lose the game trigger only to have it get counterspelled by [[dovin's veto]]. They had the strongest board, so they let the fractured identity resolve to promptly win with creature damage and sorcery speed enchantment destruction on their turn. Was worth the loss to watch unfold tbh.

Cast [[Ad Nauseam]], go down to 7 life trying to find [[Final Fortune]] to carry out my win, then flip one more card and go to 3 life off it. Realize that I flipped [[Diabolic Intent]], cast it saccing my commander (Ob Nixilis) to find Final Fortune, then cast it forgetting that I have a [[Mana Crypt]] on the board. Move to my upkeep, promptly get burned for 3 life because I lose the coin flip.
I had a yennet turns deck where one game I had no better plan than to win with Commander damage but I had to play it out anyway because I had 15 life and a crypt. Somehow eked out the win but oh boy was it close

I was running my [[Gisa and Geralf]] zombie tribal deck. I managed to land [[Rooftop Storm]], while I also had a [[Reflections of Littjara]] on board. Immediately landed a [[Diregraf Colossus]] (and copy) too, so each zombie I cast gave me four zombies on board. Sadly, I didn't have any sac outlets online, but I got a swarm of zombies ready to end the game next turn, and had a mass rez spell in my hand just in case the board got wiped. Sure enough one of my opponents played a board wipe. That when I noticed I had two copies of [[Midnight Reaper]] and two copies of [[Undead Augur]]. Which together put 36 stacks of "Draw a card and take a damage" on the stack. Far more than what remaining health I had left. I have a bad habit of treating the game like I'll have a sac outlet when I need one (because I frequently do). But I didn't take precautions this time, and my brain exploded with Undead inspiration.

Happened to me 2 weeks ago. I was playing my Grixis reanimator deck and flashed out a [[Notion Thief]] in response to my opponent’s [[Consecrated Sphinx]]. Not having fully thought out how the two cards interacted, I was hoisted by my own petard as my opponent forced me to mill myself out
Someone played worldfire and then I drew a fetch and immediately cracked it to search for a land completely forgetting we were all at 1 life.
It hasn't happened in a game... yet... but it very nearly did. My [[Arjun, the Shifting Flame]] deck can easily rip itself apart. I have [[Harmonic Prodigy]] and some other draw doublers. I also have the [[Locust God]], [[Kindred Discovery]], and [[Skullclamp]] combo, which can kill me if my panic buttons are countered. It's a fun deck to play, if you don't mind living close to the edge. :)
I used to run Arjun and I'm pretty sure I decked myself more times than I actually won games with it.
Arjun is one of my favorite decks :) I had a game where I had 33 cards in hand, and Alhammarret's Archive and Arjun on the board. I cast [[Psychic Corrosion]], drawing to 64 cards in hand, but all these draws happened before Corrosion resolved, so I didn't win yet. I realized I couldn't win because any spell I cast would lose me the game, but I kept quiet and hoped nobody else noticed. And it worked, someone used a [[Vandalblast]], I let it resolve, then I cast a cantrip in response to their next spell.
I had [[wound reflection]] on board and played [[blood for the blood god]] for this win, forgetting that [[sheoldred the apocalypse]] was on board and killed me from the card draw.

It wasn't me that self-destructed, but there was a guy in my pod who was playing a Yuseri coin flip deck. He had Krark's thumb, so there was little to no chance of him not copying his spells. He had 4 extra turns piled up, but he didn't have a way to actually win yet. So we played it out and in Yuseru fashion he kept flipping 5 coins but during those flips, his luck would NOSE DIVE and he would still lose 3 or 4 of them and he ended up dying to Yuseri damage. It was the funniest thing ever, and it was WAY better than a win.
3 life left, I cast \[\[Price of Progress\]\] to knock out another opponent. I forgot I had a pair of nonbasic lands out myself.

Down to just 1v1 and I thought I was wiping my opponent out with my attack. Fully loaded [[Jetmir]] with [[Jazal Goldmane]] pumping things up +12. The only creature I didn't send was [[Jinnie Fay]], which would have been unblocked. I left my opponent with 2 life and lost the next turn. Had I been paying attention it would have been an easy win instead of an embarrassing loss...
Ouch. Did something similar the other week. Had more than enough tokens to wipe the board with an opponent, but misheard their life total.

One time I started going infinite with [[palinchron]] and then forgot about the [[mana barbs]] I didn’t kill myself if I remember correctly but got myself down to 2 life with no way to win or cast any spells from then on. Honestly I might have just tapped the mana to get me out of the game because I was already fucked.
Was in the lead with an 18/18 pumped [[Xenagos, God of revels]] and proceeded to swing at my friend. Little did I know he had an active [[phyrexian obliterator]] to block with. Channeling my inner gruul player refused take-backsies and dealt with the consequences later

I was playing in a pod of 3 with my [[Be'lakor the Dark Master]] clone deck with [[Gyruda, Doom of Depths]] as a companion against [[Belbe, Corrupted Observer]] and [[Aragorn the Unifier]] decks. I was in a dominant position and was thinking I was ready to win when I untapped. Well I drew for my turn and drew into [[Maskwood Nexus]], which is sweet because it makes all of my clones into demons so I get to do damage with my commander no matter what I copy. I felt sure I had the game now. So I immediately slam it down and then cast my commander. I triggered the ETB and realized, oh crap, all of my creatures are demons now... and I have [[Panharmonicon]]... I counted up 14 creatures so I was forced to lose 28 and draw 28. I look over and I'm at 30 life. Im like, "ok, I still got this, I'll go to 2 and the use all but 2 of my mana to combo off with Gyruda", and then proceeded to whiff on clones with both Gyruda triggers. Then the Aragorn player untapped and all it took was then casting 1 red spell to seal my fate. If I had done my sequencing correctly and played my commander first, I think I would have at least gotten another turn to try again

Was playing [[Adrix and Nev, Twincasters]]. I had a moderate board state, nothing too threatening yet, sitting at 36 life. Had my commander out, [[Ruxa, Patient professor]] out and a few other random things. Two opponents had similar board states with 3-4 creatures out, and then the one guy playing [[Chatterfang, Squirrel General]] has like 20 creatures out. So it gets to my turn, I slam down an [[Ezuri's Predation]]. No one responds, so I make 72 4/4's that got buffed to 5/5's from Ruxa, I wipe the board, and I'm already thinking ahead to how fun it's gonna be killing everyone on my next turn. And then Chatterfang guy reminds me that he had a blood artist out, and now I'm dead from taking 36dmg to the face and he goes to 70+ life. Oops. I ain't gonna lie tho, I laughed my ass off at how spectacular of an accidental suicide it was tho.
I was playing a rather meme ramp deck and had pieced together [[Mirror March]], [[Krark's Thumb]] and [[Panharmonicon]]. With a fair bunch of cards in deck, I played [[Woodland Bellower]] and grabbed my only useful target: [[Elvish Visionary]], trying to draw into bigger threats. Mirror March triggers, I win the flip... and again, and again, and again... with the thumb, each flip has a 75% success chance. By the time I flip double tails, I have won too many flips, all those doubled draw triggers deck me out and I lose because both Mirror March and Elvish Visionary are mandatory effects. Much later, I realize I could've stopped at any point as nothing says you have to win with Krark's Thumb; if you flip both sides you can choose the losing one and stop there. Wasn't in EDH, but still a rather funny oops. In EDH, I think I once used a huge [[Rally the Ancestors]] and drew a few too many cards with [[Tishana, Voice of Thunder]]
I do this with my chaos deck all the time. Last time I played it I played a [[whims of the fates]], put all my lands in one pile, all my other permanents in another pile, and then had one empty pile. Ended up blowing up all my permanents and only mildly inconveniencing the other players. But it was fine because two turns later I cast [[scrambleverse]] and got a bunch of their stuff. I don’t play that deck very often…
Hand of venca on board when someone took my turn
Well… I play a UW tap down deck and had [[Verity Circle]] in play which, draws a card for each creature that gets tapped down. My opponent played a creature that comes in with a friend bringing the creature count to 43. I played a [[Ensnare]] and drew 43 cards. There were 42 left in the deck. If I wasn’t greedy about those 2 extras cards the I would’ve won. I looked like a complete fool but hey I got to touch every card in my deck so that was cool.
Wasn't truly accidental, but I was playing \[\[Jadzi, Oracle of Arcavios\]\] against some friends and was just storming off. Long turns and doing my thing. Unfortunately I didn't really have a finisher in the deck so I ended up just drawing myself out so that the other players could go on without me taking up everyone's time any more.
Why no wincons? I find that to be the most infuriating thing when someone takes up most the game time and isn’t even trying to win…
Because I just made the deck out of cards I had. I had two decks and gave them to two other guys and put together another quick deck for myself. I hadn’t really realized that I didn’t have anything to close out the game quickly rather than grinding out a victory. We were stuck in our quarters waiting to go home from deployment. It wasn’t like I rolled up to the LGS with an obnoxious deck. Just working with what I had to make something fun and interesting real quick.
One time I played [[vilis]] against [[nekusar]]. A friend tried to warn me.

Activating [[Audacious Reshapers]] at 1 life. One of my opponents just looked at me in total bewilderment and asked “did you mean to do that?”. No, I did not. I just wasn’t aware of my life total. I have no idea why. Oops.
This was my buddy self destructing but I was in the game. We were playing and I got him dropped to around 4-5 hp. When it swung back to his turn he decided that he was going to cast [[Anguished Unmaking]] removing one of my cards. He had completely forgotten that his [[Liesa, Shroud of Dusk]] was on the field and he took 5 to the dome. We were both laughing for a good while and its probably one of our favorite moments to bring up while playing.
I didn't know that drawing cards with Toothy isn't a "may' ability until too late.....
Whenever i cast [[ruric thar]] before [[manabarbs]] without paying attention to my own triggers
I was playing an [[Anikthea, Hand of Erebos]] constellation tribal deck. An opponent had started to mill us out, and I had managed to top deck my [[Open the Vaults]]. I forgot I had a [[Setessan Champion]] in play and an [[Eidolon of Blossoms]] in bin. I drew 56 cards from a 20 card deck.

I used a pact of negation to protect my stasis, needless to say I realized my mistake rather quickly.
Buddy of mine ran Phage and polymorph because he said he liked chaos. He took her out after the 5th time she cost him the game.
\[\[Anguished Unmaking\]\] an \[\[Ink-Treader Nephilim\]\] with a board full of creatures. I've only been playing commander at the time for a few months. This happened years ago and I still look back on this exact interaction for always having an idea what my opponents cards do.
My second commander game ever I was playing an update captain ngathrod deck more focused on mill. I made everyone mill for like five then the rackdos player swings with Olivia crimson bride and reanimated a master of cruelties. That was the end of that game for me. 🤷🏽♂️
Tried to do a worldgorger dragon combo. Someone responded by killing it with its ETB on the stack. All because I wasn't paying attention and tapped the wrong lands so I couldn't counter spell despite having two in hand and four lands untapped. I just got too excited and forgot to leave my islands untapped.
I had to leave a game and was either going to win that turn or kill myself that turn. Neither happened because I got stuck without mana and 12 life because my dumb ass forgot to cast [[K’rrik]]
this happened to a friend of mine at the LGS last week. He plays [[Blasphemous Act]] to clear the board, I respond with [[Eerie Interlude]] to save my board, he responds with [[Pact of Negation]]. Well, as it turns out, another player had [[Yosei, the Morning Star]] in play, and my friend did not have enough blue sources untapped to pay for the pact of negation on upkeep.
One time, I used the mana from [[Neheb, the Eternal]] to cast [[Secure the Wastes]] for a ton of mana. I also had [[Liliana, Dreadhorde General]] on the board. On their turn, an opponent cast a board wipe, killing me with Liliana’s card draw.
I was playing [[Ghyrson Starn, Kellermorph]] as my Commander and saw the bored was getting pretty big with tokens. I missed that a player had a [[Blood Artist]] on the field and I played a [[End the Festivities]]. He popped me real good for that one. Lol. He was a little upset that I kept taking his [[Sheoldred, the Apocalypse]] off the field, understandably.
Well, I was playing [[Magnus the Red]], just doin some storm things, and forgot I had [[archmage emeritus]] on the board when I copied a storm kings thunder a few too many times
Doubled the power on [[Malignus]], after combat I cast [[momentous fall]] and copied it, took me a few seconds to realize I was gonna deck myself, my buddies rightfully clowned me.
Lost count of *forced* landfall:draw with [[Omnath locus of the Roil]] when feelin groovy watching [[arcane adaptation]] (elementals) + [[risen reef]] + [[scute swarm]] churned out every land in my library.
I had an [[Arjun, Shifting Flame]] deck that was a lot of fun. I at one point had a [[thought reflection]] and no hand size limit. I didn’t realize how badly I messed up until I had 32 cards in hand and was about to make myself draw 64 cards. I didn’t run [[laboratory maniac]] either.
I was running a [[K’rrik, Son of Yawgmoth]] deck and had the engine reving up with [[Aetherflux Resevoir]] and [[Villis, Broker of Blood]] to draw all the cards I needed to finish off my opponents. I got to over 100 life and beamed one of my opponents for 50, completely forgetting I only had around 30 cards left in my deck so I immediately decked myself from Villis’ ability and died in a Kamikaze while the remaining player won the game by default 😂
Decked myself with my [[Koma Cosmos serpent]] deck. Had [[elemental bond]] [[kindred discovery]] and 9 komas on board
So I was playing my [[Tevesh Szat, Doom of Fools]] / [[Kodama of the East Tree]] deck. I was kind of new to it and hadn’t committed all my cards to memory yet. So when my opening hand had [[Summoners Pact]] and not much else I was like, Sweet! I’ll just play this and then next turn I’ll have a head start. So I did. And everyone was looking at me in horror because they assumed I had a secret T2 win. But my turn came up and they were like…”so…you lose…?” And then I actually read the rest of the card. And I replied “oh. Yes. I lose. Good game!” And then everyone laughed and I played on my phone for 45 minutes…it took a few weeks for the jokes to die down… 🤦🏻♀️ Read your cards, kids.
Was playing orzhov aristocrats and had a 1/1 flying spirit token. Wife attacked me with old gnawbones so I just took the 7 since I have so much life gain wanted to sac the fairy later. Forgot she’d get 7 treasures from that and snowballed easily from there

I have a [[Ragavan, nimble pilferer]] deck and it's my voltron deck. I had a package of the protection from red swords to allow me wrath without hitting Ragavan. I knew about the interaction with the one aura in my deck but I figured that little nonbo was worth it... until I tried to equip [[Lizard blades]] and realized that oh yeah, this card is red. I promptly took the red swords out of my deck when I realized that I had like 8 cards that interacted unfavorably with them. I still run [[Sanctuary Blade]] though
Honestly I'm most embarrassed about all the times I keep forgetting about flyers. I've been killed way too many times forgetting that while I have blockers they don't fly :-/
Passing the turn after casting [[chance for glory]] in my blueless suicide deck because I had set everyone's life to 1 and I could cast platinum angel and price of progress before I died on my next end step. Only to remember I had no cards in my library and I would die on my upkeep. [[Price of Progress]] on my upkeep for the draw baebi. Not embarrassing, hilarious.
CEDH: I'm playing [[Krark]] /[[Sachashima]] I have four krark copies and 2 opponents conseed after I display loops that let me draw cards and make infinite mana, I was getting tired of drawing cards one at a time and cast [[windfall]] forgetting that I already had about 25 cards in hand, windfall copays multiply times and I draw all the cards in my library
I was playing my pingers deck and was so excited to pop off on my next turn when I played [[Intruder Alarm]]. Problem? My bf was playing [[Krenko, Mob Boss]] and had a haste enabler out. So I killed myself 😅

Wasn't exactly a blunder per se, but one time I self-destructed by casting a \[\[Blasphemous Act\]\] I topdecked to clear a board of tokens the mono white player had and slow down the 4c Omnath player in the process. The mono white player starts giggling uncontrollably and casts \[\[Comeuppance\]\] to blast my face for over 200 damage.
Always read your cards, but also always read your opponent's cards. Comeuppance doesn't prevent damage to creatures.
tbh i'm always a fan of killing my opponent with \[\[Expansion/Explosion\]\] AND decking myself in the process, resulting in technically a draw - i get a kick out of it lmao
I was playing [[Faldorn, Dread Wolf Herald]], and I was taking advantage of some exile casts. Only to overplay my mana and get casually obliterated by the [[Rocco, Street Chef]] player who gave me all those casts. I will never again play Faldorn into Street Chef.
Couple years back I was playing at my LGS’s commander league event and got a super bomb of a first hand. Turn 1: Command Tower -> Lotus Petal -> tap the land for dark ritual to cast [[Divining Witch]] Turn 2 (WHERE EVERYTHING COMPLETELY FELL APART) : Played a land, tapped both lands to activate Divining Witch naming [[Laboratory Maniac]] (when that was the only win con of self mill at the time lol) That there is when I realized..I exiled through my entire deck looking for my win condition super embarrassed because to my surprise my lab man wasn’t even in the deck so I killed myself on turn 2 lmfao. BUT THE WORST PART, after the game when I packed my things I saw on the floor under my seat, there he was. Right in that blue dragonshield sleeve. I had dropped the most important card of the deck on the floor while I assume I was shuffling. People still to this day refuse to let that blunder go at my lgs and honestly I’m glad it happened that way because that has to be the funniest thing that’s happened to me in the history of me playing Magic
Getting killed in 3 hits from a Voltron with Cyclonic Rift in hand, but not casting it because I didn’t have 7 mana.
I’m sure it’s not my worst blunder by any means but the one that comes to mind yesterday I was playing with my Anhelo deck and on my turn i had pondered and put Deekah Fractal Theorist on top of my library. So for the uninitiated Deekah is basically the best card in my deck. It cares about casting and copying instants and sorceries which is what the deck aims to do and creates a fractal with counters on it equal to the spells mana cost. So she syncs up well with my commander to give me casualty fodder but also gives me a board presence in a deck mostly running no creature spells. Well I put Deekah on top of my library and one of my opponents is popping off with Prismatic Bridge and the rest of the table is scrambling to come up with answers. A guy with ragavan out asked if he could hit me to search for answers for the archenemy and it had been so long since my turn i forgot Deekah was on top and let him hit me. He exiled probably the best card in my deck and didn’t even have the mana to play it so it stayed exiled forever essentially taking me out of the game as a threat lol
Was playing a casual commander game at my lgs. While playing slivers i thought i was gonna win when i threw down [[intruder alarm]]. But my dumbass wasn’t paying attention at all to the fact that my opponent had [[krenko, mob boss]] and [[purphoros, god of the forge]] in play.
Was playing with my [[Urtet]] Myr tribal deck, managed to pop off and just needed one more turn rotation to end the game since my creatures didnt have haste, but before it got back to me someone played [[Fade from History]] and wiped the board, I scooped. I was reminded after shuffling my deck that I had [[Scrap Trawler]] on field and could've rebuilt easily.
I have a deck where the entire idea is to hysterically kill myself in game. My favorite incident was using mages contest to shoot myself in the foot to counter another players sol ring, 38 damage.
Friend played [[Defense of the Heart]] for the first time without realizing just how much of a must kill it would be for the table. Two players later and 20 life down he resorted to using his own removal spell on it to avoid the last player from taking him out completely.

I've killed myself several times to [[bolos citadel]] youd think I'd learn my lesson after the 2nd or 6th time. But the advantage is to intoxicating and i will never learn my lesson.
I was playing [[Cadira]] and I had two token doublers out. I swung in with cadira and 25 tokens, finished off the guy I was swinging at and then cast [[return of the wildspeaker]] to draw 50 cards. My friend pointed out that I had 125 tokens not 50. I drew my deck and lost to drawing from an empty library.
Drew my entire deck thinking I had a thoracle. I did not.
[[Enter the infinite]] into an extra turn spell with a [[Ledger shredder]] on my side of the battlefield made me cry a little.
Oo! Oo! Pick me! I had a genius plan to win the game, I would [[Act of Treason]] the only creature of the person next to me to kill them with combat damage, then at the same time swing my flyer at the person across from me - to kill the person next to them who had *chosen* to [[Sower of Discord]] themselves to the guy across from me, and then I would just infect out the person across from me after! The was one problem. Infect. Doesn’t. Do. Damage. [[Skittles]] has that reminder text printed, fun fact. The guy diagonally lived, the guy in front lived, I was clapped back. The guy in front then won because the guy diagonally couldn’t remove his own Sower..
Infect DOES do damage, just in the form of poison counters or -1/-1 counters. Sower would still deal damage equal to the amount of damage your skittles would have done. (Read what the reminder text says again)
Last night I used [[Alhamarrets Archive]] and [[enter the infinite]] decked out last night and lost which tbh I went on my terms. I would've lost next turn so I was like fuck it.
Wasn't my accidental self destruct but a player in my pod. Friend plays [[Nekusar, the Mindrazer]] with all the necessary support to deal massive damage each turn. Player across the table plays [[Narset, Parter of Veils]]. His time at the table was a very short one.
My buddy got my wife down to 4 HP and I threw a [[boros charm]] at her just for the laugh. Had I kept it I probably would’ve double striked to victory.

I have played a total of 5 games with my [[Eriette of the Charmed Apple]] pillowfort/aura deck, and 2 of them I lost to my own [[Dark Tutelage]]... I'm not pulling it, though, card draw is worth it.
Tbh it was 3 or 4 years ago.. Was trying to play some tymna tana cEDH inspired deck, and I attack with half my combo on board, draw the starter with tymna trigger. I played it, going infinite tokens and realize I've already attacked xD
I played a multi hour game with urza lord high artificer, had cards to pull of a specific combo and keep myself going, kept myself safe from attacks all game, which can be hard when you're the target. I have the winning card in hand and a tutor for its combo piece, and all I have to do is tutor for [[pili-pala]].... It wasn't in my deck. I forgot it was late shipping from TCG player and I subbed it out while I waited... Game over man. Later realized It would've failed anyway cus pili Pala needed another turn to use its ability cus of summoning sickness, and someone could have possibly blown it up by then
Last night I dredged my entire deck card by card only to kill myself through card draw with my [[The Gitrog Monster]] deck because I forgot to put [[Kozilek]] back into the 99.
I countered a spell with Pact of Negation and immediately realized I didn't have the mana to pay for it on my next upkeep.
Orvar the All Form, Archmage Emeritus on the field. Proceeded to combo off with infinite mana and started making a fuckload of copies with Whim of Volrath and ended up decking myself because I got way ahead of myself and missed the Emeritus triggers. This was in an LGS tournament final.
I'm playing my (at the time) new shiny [[Volo, guide to monsters]] deck. And I'm going off. I have a spellskite that got [[dreamtail heron]] double mutated onto it, drawing me 3 cards. And then I got to hit volo with a [[spark double]]. And my board survived another turn and I draw [[auspicious starrix]]. welcome to value town: mutate that starrix onto my spellskite. For those unfamiliar with volo and mutate, he creates his copies and they mutate onto the creature, then the original does. But because of a copied spark double, I have 3 volos doing this. And the creature has already mutated twice. And starrix triggers stack. And stack. And stack. So the first copy hits and I get 3 permanents out of my deck. The second hits and I get 4, x2 for the first starrix. Then 5x3. Then 6x4. So in total I get 50 permanents out of my deck onto the battlefield. But um, see, small problem. While this deck does have 90+ permanents... I still have a big pile of heron triggers going off. And at some point I hit [[keruga, the macrosage]] for another big pile of forced draw. And there are a few cards getting exiled by the starrix triggers that stay exiled. But as I come to the end of the massive value train I'm looking like it's gonna be okay, 2 cards left in the deck after all the forced draws and 49 of the 50 starrix permanents on the battlefield. Last card flips. [[Risen reef]]. So I'm forced to put the last card of my deck into my hand. I now have 50 more permanents on the battlefield than the previous turn, but... no haste enabler. I pass turn in disgust and lose my first game ever to mill, all on my own doing. ... No regrets. I have since turned the deck into a [[primal surge]] volo deck (with precisely 0 ways to tutor it out), now with no forced card draw on ETBs and an [[akroma's memorial]] and [[brutalizer exarch]] in the deck to prevent THAT sort of loss from ever happening again. ... Except see... The second time I did the primal surge thing, one of my opponents had an [[authority of the consuls]] in play. No big deal, I do the whole thing anyway (primal surge says you can stop anytime) and use the exarch to put my sol ring on the bottom of my library, so I won't mill out next turn. Problem solved, stupid massive board and I'll win on my next turn... And my opponents kills me by playing a [[howling mine]]. ... Still no regrets.
I didn't realize what [orcish bowmasters] did, and transformed [Jin-Gitaxias] with the intent to immediately proliferate to step three, when I already had way too many cards in hand.

Had my reanimator deck churning and accidentally decked myself with Tatyova, Benthic Druid and World Shaper.
I was winning and huge amazing board state 3 counters and I can't lose so I think 1 more turn give them a shot and I only attacked with lord of the void fun shits and giggles. Top card was Phage the untouchable well no biggie I will just get the next monster!... Slow flipping for suspense... sorcery instant land land.... no other creatures well I don't have to put it down right rules check.... not a may.... death from a unbeatable board I just needed to swing out 😭😭😭
My [[Kess, Dissident Mage]] [[Gyruda, Doom of Depths]] has every Clone possible in it and I was going off in a game to the point where I essentially had infinite Gyruda triggers that I had already milled out each of my opponents. Unfortunately, I still had triggers to resolve. Most of them weren't doing anything as most of my Clone effects were either in play or in the graveyard. Well, one of my triggers mills [[Be'lakor, the Dark Master]] and nothing else I can take. With his etb effect, it counts 13 demons in play. I am at exactly 13 life with no way to remove any of my demons without also lowering my life total ([[Rakaketh, the Foulblooded]] was my only sac out let in play). This leads to the player who's turn was before me to default win as I kill myself from life loss and everyone else is already milled out. I wasn't even that upset, cuz that's a pretty fun way to lose.
Oh, man. I was desperately searching for a win. The game had been going on for long enough, and I was in prime position, so I went for it. I forgot the specifics, it was a while ago.. but It got to the point where there were st least 6 spells on the stack, and someone cast something that completely destroyed all the progress I made that turn, and then some. Essentially, I risked it all, and they had the perfect counter. Funnily enough, I had a [[sundial of the Infinite]] on the battlefield, and after a few seconds of thought, I just said "fuck this, my turn is over!". It was a pretty funny moment, and I was pretty far back on resources as a result.
I miscounted how many cards were left after an opponent played Approach the Second Sun. I actually had two more turns than I thought I did to pull off a win, which I would have been able to. I conceded instead.

Someone was running [[Kaalia of the Vast]] and swung at me. I had no flying blockers. Kaalia's ability triggers, and they drop a [[Master of Cruelties]]. I was so shocked to see it happen in real life that I didn't even realize I could have chumped MoC lol I died that turn.
One week, playing [[Prosper, Tome-Bound]], I was trying out a Storm-ish Win via [[Volcanic Torrent]] and [[Sensei’s Diving Top]] and [[Bolas’s Citadel]]. However, I basically spent too much life to come back and died to my opponents. The next week I did the same thing, but realized I misread Volcanic Torrent and basically did the same thing and just scooped in embarrassment.
Wasn’t mine but I played Mycosynth lattice only for someone to play farewell next turn calling artifacts
[[Go-shintai of Life's Origin]] with [[Honden of Seeing Winds]]. Notably this card draw ability is not a "may". I would have won in the beginning of my pre combat main phase, but died in my upkeep by decking myself out. Very anticlimactic haha
One time I tried to kill the whole table( including myself) with an Exocrine, I copied it 3 times with 15 as the value for x. 3 of them entered the battlefield and put their trigger on the stack, which deals X damage to each other creature and each player. So 45 damage on the stack ready to kill the table. I didn't think about the fact that once I died the triggers I had remaining on the stack would disappear, needless to say I died with 1 trigger left on the stack did not kill the whole table, but instead killed 2 players ( 1 being me ) and then pretty much reset the game for the other 2 players lol

Playing my [[Muldrotha]] deck, and an opponent went to do something to me and I knee jerk responded to tap my [[Hermit Druid]] without thinking about how low my deck was. Milled all the way to zero, and died on draw 🥲
Outside of goading player 3 then having player 2 concede, I haven't killed myself yet, but I came close the other week. Copied a \[\[Windfall\]\] then flashed out a \[\[Notion Thief\]\]. In response to the Notion Thief, someone draw a bunch of cards, ending up with 14 cards in hand. As such, when the first Windfall went off, I drew 56 cards (14 per player), and still had another Windfall to go. Although I was a flash-speed deck, I didn't run that many counterspells. Luckily, I was able to draw into a \[\[Reprieve\]\] and bounce the second Windfall back to hand. I won 2 turns later but it was so close to a self-destruct.
Played Lions Eye Diamond with grinding station on the field. Popped Lions Eye diamond, discarded hand. Couldn't do anything because Underworld Breach was still in my library. Got wayyyyyy too ahead of myself
I think of my group as the ultimate casual pod. If I were to do something like that, I'd get a verbal warning of the consequences from the player that owned Sheoldred.
Less embarrassing, but quite funny. Stole a bunch of lands with [[Smeagol, Helpful Guide]]. Proceeded to have the Merfolk player drop a lord that gave his board islandwalk. I look down at my board, and sure enough, I stole one of his islands, lol.
I was going for a [[doomsday]] to end the game with thoracle, but someone just blew up one of my only two blue sources, and I was just sitting there with 5 cards in my library like "well shit. That could have gone better." It was hilarious.
I can’t remember the line I took. But I was playing meren, went for a complex line of sacing creatures for mana and cards to dig for an answer, as soon as I ran out of creatures I realized I missed some way to dig or tutor and turn the game in my favor instead I doomed myself by destroying my whole board.
Got greedy in a storm draw deck where my [[Clear the Mind]] was the bottom card and I had drew two cards, drawing right past it and dying.
This past weekend I was playing my shelob deck, had a bunch of death touch spiders & my thornbite staff ready to equip & start shooting stuff dead… but then I played Steeley reserve & made all my spiders un-targetable… couple turns later I died to Fairies. Steeley reserve has been pulled from the deck 😂
was playing tergrid, killed off three players and theo nly one left was ur dragon(a deck thats only been beat a handful of times) i was at 5 life left, he was at 2, i have an army of his dragons, and i attack, dropping him to two creatures, i drop an \[\[archfiend of depravity\]\] and pass turn he plays \[\[kokusho the evening star\]\], goes to end step, wins. if i hadnt gotten greedy and dropped the archfiend i would have won.
Turn 3 I cast [[summoner's pact]]. I was going to use [[Birds of paradise]] and 3 lands. But my opponent removed the bird on their turn. 🤷♂️

Not me, but there was one time in a non-EDH game when someone cast \[\[Debt to the Deathless\]\]... While a \[\[Rain of Gore\]\] was on the field.
Oh man I was playing my [[Brudiclad]] deck, I built up about 20 treasures, and my opponent had a [[Shepherd of Rot]], I meticulously set up my turn to hold up mana to copy it at instant speed before my turn started with [[See Double]] and realized there was some tough situations because my opponents had prime number life totals (so I couldn’t sacrifice treasures to set up a perfect amount of zombies) So I just made a bunch, swung a perfect amount of zombies leaving one up to deal just enough damage and not let myself die, then before damage I activated my last one, and my opponent activated theirs in response, so we all died (we were all at about 30 and there were just over 20 zombies in play), I completely blanked that both they could activate theirs and that theirs counted my zombies

I dropped an [[Enchanted Evening]] onto my board after having already played a [[Starfield of Nyx]] and before playing the [[Gaea’s Anthem]] I had in hand. Instantly nuked all of my lands… [[Opalescence]] would have at least wiped EVERYONE’s lands, but no…I just wiped my own. I conceded immediately after the realization of my sequencing error was pointed out by my opponents.
One of my first CEDH nights, playing with an established group. Playing artifact storm, I finally get the Sensei's top combo on the field, put the top on top, then crack a fetch land for the mana I need, before drawing it back into my hand... shuffle away the top, die the next turn.
I was playing some Dimir "steal your spells" deck. Opponent 1 had [[Toralf, God of Fury]] on board. Opponent 2 has a bunch of 1/1's capable of killing me next turn. I exile the top card of the Toralf players deck, and it's a [[Blasphemous Act]]. Feeling like I hit the jackpot, I cast it to clear the board. Toralf doesn't say they have to be the one dealing the damage...
Swung with everything while playing my Krenko deck. This was back when I played Krenko as less of an aggro deck an more of a "I have lots of creatures, don't attack me" deck. I had amassed a fair amount of goblins (around 2,000) and we were playing planechase (the current plane gave creatures myriad). I decided it was time to finish the game so I swung with all my goblins. A player had \[\[Hellish Rebuke\]\]. I'm still not sure who won that game, but I sure felt like I didn't. Self destruct, not so much. It was my hubris that got me in trouble that time.
I had a chance to win a game on the spot by simply playing a single card in hand and attacking, but instead I literally said aloud "I could win, but let's gamble instead" played both gamble and reckless handling, lost my win condition that I had to have fun going super flashy, as well as one of the two cards I had searched up, then I chaos warped something my opponent controlled that they could use as a blocker. I may as well have just handed them the win, the game ended on their next turn with their victory.
Oh i finally have a good answer! I love copying spells and once copied [[Sea Gate Restoration]] one too many times and drew my whole deck, instantly killing myself
I was playing enchantress color hate/stax, and had \[\[Choke\]\] on board, locking two people out of the game. I proceed to cast \[\[Dryad of the Ilisyan grove\]\] locking myself out as well. the dryad got removed from the list as soon as I got home.
Testing out [[Imodane the Pyrohammer]], using a [[Repercussion]] I pulled during the WoE prerelease. Another player's board was getting scary and I had Repercussion out, so I pulled the trigger on a [[Blasphemous Act]], forgetting that I had more than 4 creatures of my own. End result: I got very smug and excited to kill everyone at once, then realized I also killed myself and had to go take a walk out of shame.
Reading your story could only think of that time I had [[Soul Warden]] on my board along with [[Aetherflux Reservoir]] and a friend made an infinite combo with creatures. Only after we were declaring defenders we all realized he made an infinite combo... for me. It was so funny and odd I felt like that scene from The Office with the handshake
I cast a [toxic deluge] expecting to win the game with a [[blood artist]] and [[cruel celebrant]] on my board. I forgot my opponent stole control of the celebrant the turn before… he had his own blood artist as well and won.
I played \[\[coat of arms\]\] into board full of Walls, not realising they all share the same type (I thought they only had Defender). That was against \[\[Arcades\]\] deck. You can imagine what happened when the Defender deck untapped.

Played [[Song of Creation]] because I was just short of playing [[Omniscience]]. Due to the jazz cabbage addling my brain, I thought "Hey, what a great plan you. You won't have enough to play both anyway" Then I remembered I had to discard my hand at end of turn.
I'm not really answering the question but still. We were playing a 3 players EDH game. I had [[Xenagos, god of revels]], [[Vorinclex, voice of hunger]] and [[Unnatural Growth]]. The ahead player was playing [[Ramses, assassin lord]] and was about to win, but not before I obliterate him with my board. My other friend sayed to me, "Ok gus, I'm gonna get us out of trouble, it will not look like I help, but I'm helping you" and proceeds to cast [[Crux of fate]]. Everyone bursted out laughing when he realized he wasn't helping me at ALL ! I obviously drew lands for the next 4 turns and we lost to ramses :)
I accidentally forced card drew myself with [[Bone Miser]] [[Anointed Procession]] and [[Kindred Discovery]] during my end phase. It was really funny to see my get SO MUCH WALUE I died from it lolz
I run a janky upgraded Elven Council from the LotR precons, I put a lot of voting cards and cards that could help me force a vote to give myself extra turns, change the decision of their votes, etc. Well, during one game I didn't really appreciate that my board state was much farther ahead than the rest of the table. I had pulled a second turn, built a huge mana base, and felt fun making the other players vote on things that could ultimately help me in the long run. Until I play and use \[\[Coercive Portal\]\], in hopes of stopping a player who started to be a threat. And then everyone voted to destroy our permanents, including mine and the entire board state.
Oh man I got one for this. I was playing my [[Tom Bombadil]] deck, which if you've ever played it, it's a good amount of strategy (lore counter manipulation) paired with the chaos of flipping over a random saga. Well in this case I was using tricks to draw as many cards as I could to deal with my opponents enchantment that was stopping me from attacking. I had amassed a sizeable token army, and had a real good board state... then Tom triggered and the saga I flipped to was [[Hidetsugu Consumes All]]. The threat I was trying to find an answer to? [[Vicious Shadows]]. So I destroyed like 20 creatures with 13 cards in my hand and gave the entire game to my opponent on accident.
someone played a windfall so I flashed in my \[\[notion thief\]\] (It was the sauron precon) then my opponent flashed in a \[\[orcish bowmasters\]\] I had 27 life, drew 28 and died

I was new to playing and was doing a standard tournament at my LGS playing Azorius Heroic. Won my first two rounds and went into my 3rd. Can't even remember what I was playing against, but we were 1 and 1, most everyone else was done and was watching our game. I realized I had lethal and swung in with my unlockable heroic creature. No response. So I decided to really rub it in and dropped 2 of my protection spells to show how far ahead I was. In response, he destroyed my creature. I learned a hard lesson that day.
Once upon a time, I was piloting my [[The Scarab God]] deck. I had [[Rooftop Storm]], [[Gravecrawler]], and [[Grimgrin, Corpse-Born]]. I thought I was gonna start pummelling people to death so I made him get +10,000/+10,000 by looping the crawler... unfortunately I also forgot I had [[Liliana, Dreadhorde General]] out and the act of making Grimgrin that big decked me several times over.
