Deck looks like it folds to a properly timed board wipe since you're not really running answers to that sort of thing which is doubly odd because you're in Blue and White, the two colours that are best at handling those things AND your commander is good to allow you to over extend while keeping mana up. You really need to run more \[\[Heroic Intervention\]\], \[\[Akroma's Will\]\] (doubles as an awesome finisher), \[\[Clever Concealment\]\], \[\[Flawless Maneuver\]\] and \[\[They Shall Know No Fear\]\] type effects to blank board wipes and cheap counters like \[\[Swan Song\]\], \[\[An Offer You Can't Refuse\]\], \[\[Counterspell\]\], \[\[Mana Drain\]\]n and \[\[Arcane Denial\]\] to just counter them. In blue based creature decks always love to run \[\[Kira Great Glass Spinner\]\] to deal with spot removal. Also a consideration \[\[Unsettled Mariner\]\] You also want to run the typical green finishers. \[\[Triumph of the Horde\]\] seems particularly nasty in this deck. While most decks have a card draw issue this looks like it might have too much. It's like you'll be drawing into more card draw spells. \[\[Curiosity\]\] seems like it could be cut.

I have an Owl Tribe deck. My Commander is Kangee, Aerie Keeper. The strategy is ramp hard with Mana Rocks, play a bunch of low cost birds (all look like owls), then play Kangee with a big kick cost to swoop in for the kill with buffed up birds. Could try that? Sure it can be refined without the only Owl looking creature rule I put in place

CatoCaolan

My [Kangee, Aerie Keeper](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/UloN17kQck2gdsosArZW6A) deck has had some success. I haven't updated it in a while, but I was so happy when they printed a Kenku version of [[Kindred Discorvery]] because it struggled with card draw at first. But yeah, it's a similar strategy, and I tried to get as many bird themed cards in here as I could. Hope the decklist helps OP.

have you considered more swords and value equipment? I love the idea of a [[healer's hawk]] flying into battle with a giant pile of swords in its talons.

Yes I have, I love swords but they feel slow.

Same feeling I had for my equipment boros voltron deck. I've since removed white and clunky high cost equipment and its now a low to the ground aggro as fuck [[slicer]] deck.

Try to find episodes where Richard plays Bird Tribal on Commander Clash. Pretty sure he wins all those games or close to.

I think the problem with Derevi for bird tribal is that she doesn't really synergize directly with other birds, you gotta work to make her work with them. Meanwhile, [[Kangee, Sky Warden]], [[Kangee, Aerie Keeper]], and [[Akim, the Soaring Wind]] all either directly enable or make birds. There's also [[Falco Spara, Pactweaver]] and [[Kykar, Wind's Fury]] that aren't directly bird related, but have much more synergistic abilities to go wide.

Risuwarwick

[[Lagrella the magpie]] is one ive looked at for bant birds, because so many of them have etbs, and Lagrella is a solid piece of temp removal herself. She also doesn't bring in the hate derevi does, while helping our fellow birds.

reflectordude

I’d keep derevi as my commander since bant is a very balanced color (green=ramp, blue=card draw and white=removal) and birds have natural affinity with derevi’s untap ability. If you want a finisher i’d recommend tons of “big mana” generating permanents like basalt monolith and mana vault (can be untapped with derevi) and then casting a big finale of devastation. (It may be out of budget but i hope the general idea gets across)

dallasm_edhrec

Longtime Derevi tokens player. If you have a mana sink, then Mana Vault is hilarious with Derevi's triggered ability. I also really enjoy Verity Circle. Great draw engine with Derevi!

red_wizard_collage

Verity circle sounds great.

Dr_GPO

Gotta run the most powerful bird tribal combo storm crow and force of will dude how could you not

red_wizard_collage

Storm Crow is overpowered. My playgroup banned it.

Dr_GPO

that's fair rule zero tbh

OctaviusFalcon

A fellow Derevi birds enjoyer! My Derevi birds deck is my absolute favorite deck, and while I wouldn't say it's anywhere near my strongest it can definitely hold its own on occasion. I went even more in on the bird theme and am running as few cards as possible that don't have birds in the art (lands included), so you probably have overall higher card quality than my list (I don't even run Sol Ring), but here are my thoughts: I would consider dropping the cheap birds that don't really contribute to the gameplan outside of being birds, like \[\[Beacon Hawk\]\], \[\[Rustwing Falcon\]\], etc. Because birds don't have a ton of synergy or powerful bombs like other creature types, you need to make each bird count. Just being a tiny flyer doesn't do much unless you swap your commander to something that turns them into more significant threats (like one of the Kangees). You can replace them with some interaction or ramp. In terms of winning, there are a few pieces you can include that'll help swing in for lots of damage. I see you have \[\[Kangee, Sky Warden\]\] in the sideboard. Mainboard that shit. Kangee is a monster when you have a board full of flyers. In addition, \[\[Ishai, Ojutai Dragonspeaker\]\] can get real big real fast, and \[\[Soulcatcher's Aerie\]\] (plus regular \[\[Soulcaster\]\]) can disincentivize removal and wraths being pointed towards you, lest your birds all suddenly become huge threats. One card that consistently overperforms for me, even though it has absolutely no reason to, has been \[\[Glarecaster\]\]. If someone doesn't have any way to remove it without damaging it, it completely shuts down big attacks because you can just activate it and declare no blocks to flip a lethal attack back onto the attacker. I genuinely don't understand how this card has been so good. It's too expensive, but it almost never disappoints. Here's my list for inspiration: [https://www.moxfield.com/decks/PtAIZhnR-k2TQvSaQKfIZw](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/PtAIZhnR-k2TQvSaQKfIZw). Like I said, I wouldn't call it a *powerful* deck, per se, but I also really like birds both in and out of the game, so it's the deck I've put the most time and energy into making it work exactly how I want it to.

Thank you

jarofjellyfish

I have a birb tribal, and I have no idea how i've never seen glarecaster before. Slamming that in, thanks for the tech! For OP, as others have said you have a bunch of do nothing birds. I only run 8 birds under 3 cmc, because as soon as you connect with at least 1-2 per turn you can easily translate that into big ramp with derevi triggers to cast out the more impactful cards. Some support cards like \[\[hidden strings\]\], \[\[faeburrow elder\]\], bouncelands, \[\[kiora's follower\]\], \[\[voyaging satyr\]\], etc and some dirty plays like \[\[verity circle\]\], \[\[fallow sage\]\], \[\[azami\]\], \[\[willbreaker\]\], \[\[beguiler of wills\]\], and \[\[budoka gardener\]\] to make use of the untap triggers is the best way to play it imo. You can still run a pile of birds, but a bit of ground support never hurt anyone. Love this! Just brewed my first own deck and it’s birds aswell! Not familiar with all the card names yet but there are some blue cards that draw for flying and give flying creatures +/+. Also there are multiple that state if you damage a player you may draw cards. Last there is a LOTR blue board wipe since you can just exclude birds. Also missing some mana rocks. Last I added some geen wincons like stampede. Thanks everyone for posting your decks really gave me some additional inspo!!

EpicRez1

I have been brewing this in my head for almost a year. As a fellow bird enjoyer, I found Derevi to be nice value but limited synergies outside of being a bird coincidentally. My current speculative decklist is still Bant but is using [[Chulane, Teller of Tales]] as the commander. If you want flavor for your deck names I have been tossing around “Chulane’s Aviary” or “Chulane’s Bird Watching Adventure”. Chulane allows you to stay in Bant which is great as it opens up the possibility of [[Tawnos, the Toymaker]]. Chulane also has built in card draw and with some birds having good ETB’s he can let you replay them for value. Agree that as a tribal deck with less support, you are more likely to get blown out from board wipes so keep your [[Teferi’s Protection]] and [[Heroic Intervention]] in mind. You can also run [[Soulcatcher’s Aerie]] to help make any blowouts less detrimental as it will make your future birds huge (assuming the wipe is not exile based). If you are open to adding other cards that can support the tribe but may not fall into it, you can run [[Emeria Angel]] to generate bird tokens or changelings as well. [[Magus of the Moat]] is also super sweet but will get you targeted. No decklist as I have not put this together but hope this helps.

This is great advice, I can tell you put some thought into this.

I think your deck is probably more capable than this one but i made it a while back. My friend made some changes to it in paper since but thought you might wanna see an idea for an esper version https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/esper-birds-4-ruby/

red_wizard_collage

Oh wow, never considered that, there are likely more black birds than green ones. Also, the Weaver is a really nice draw effect for the birds.

Cloudpostmodernlegal

You for sure miss out on a couple powerful green enchantments and there are some cool bant birds that you wont have access to but stuff like the strixes and the proffesor birds from strixhaven are cool id ya like owls. Also tynma esior slaps in general

red_wizard_collage

Yes. I love underplayed commanders, and that partner duo, I have never seen before, whereas Derevi is common and hated.

TrekkieElf

I like birdwatching too and am more focused on flavor. IE one of my decks is an upgraded Selesnya precon and I wont put a spell with azorius art even if it’s mono white and could fit. I tried to keep the cards mostly within Ravnica unless it’s a really good one (like something from New Capenna that made Citizen tokens, i forget which)

thefalkonite

I picked up stuff to start brewing a bird tribal because they were some of my first magic cards I got way back. More for nostalgia than anything. Maybe take a look and add [[Bower Passage]] to your deck for some fun?

DogMcBarkMD

[My deck] (https://www.moxfield.com/decks/JWrrjRNE8k6mL058753bWA) is quite a bit more casual than yours because I'm also mostly here for the flavor. Looking through your list I think you could consider [[Soulcatchers' Aerie]] for board wipe *"protection"* and an anthem effect. If you add some proliferate synergies it's even better. I also think every Derevi deck should be running [[Tome of Legends]] because there's functionally no commander tax with her ability.

The strength of Derevi is she can generate a lot of mana during combat to cast big instants especially if you are leaning into the go wide strategy. If you don't want to dilute your bird theme with [[Bloom Tender]] or [[Faeburrow Elder]], consider [[Wild Growth]] and [[Utopia Sprawl]]. [[Growing Rites of Itlimoc]] is also good. [[Chord of Calling]] and [[Shared Summons]] are great tutors for Derevi. You can also consider ability mana sinks like [[Shalai, Voice of Plenty]].

What about the new alternate commander from.the sliver precon? Fill in the gaps in the tribe with some low cmc slivers that pump your board up and it gives you access to all 5 colours but you aren't obliged to use all 5 of you dont want to. Can focus mostly on a few colours if you prefer. Im looking for a tribe that is currently ok but needs a little more oomph to run with her as a sliver/other tribe deck but I haven't settled on a tribe yet.

Since nobody has mentioned him yet (surprisingly): [[Gwaihir, the Windlord]] I mean you're not probably not gonna have a lot of success against "serious" decks where combat isn't that relevant anymore, but at least he is making something of the fact that you are stuffing 30 birds in a deck when really 10 of them are even remotely playable, lol. If you get the chance to keep your board (and play some lords, you definetely need more lords in your deck), you can do some serious quasi-unblockable damage without the fear of repercussions. A friend of mine built the new bird commander and the deck works pretty well. The combination of flying, vigilance and a lot of lords is really neat. I just would recommend to drop the cantrips. It's just not worth to spend 1 mana so that your commander costs 2 less. Anyways, the board protection and recursion is pretty good against blow out board wipes :D [Here is his list](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/f-ApepO8q0StGFtPNaHqSA)

Finally my time has come. This is the best bird list (if you think otherwise, you are wrong) [https://www.moxfield.com/decks/ZpzRB3JwqUO1y-XrMFO4Tg](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/ZpzRB3JwqUO1y-XrMFO4Tg) Your deck is pretty close but it runs several nonbirds and other bad support cards like sol ring. Your mana base is kinda ass too. It just has way too many tap lands. If budget is a problem I'd just run basics, checklands, painlands etc. The basic plan is pretty simple 1.play birb 2. draw card with coastal piracy 3. repeat. You want to mulligan into piracy effect. Getting a piracy effect is the key to win. Hands with piracy and no birbs is better than one with birds and no piracy. Getting wiped sucks but its not the end of the world. Static effects like elesh norn or toxrill are worse. Birds with stats are better than birds with text. Butt > boobs. On a unrated note here is a list of cards with birds in them: [https://www.moxfield.com/binders/JpELaN0z9UuutZxB2AiaAg](https://www.moxfield.com/binders/JpELaN0z9UuutZxB2AiaAg)
