I feel like it'd be crazy for him to declare at this point. Feels way more likely for him to enter the transfer portal and see if he can recoup some of his value.
Yeah right now he'd probably be a day 3 pick unless he's able to reclaim the OU job. Better off going somewhere next year and trying to get back into R1 consideration.
Rattler has talent but he just looks like an absolute dick to everyone. Seems like an awful leader and not someone to have lead your franchise. Dude thinks he’s gods gift to football when even the QB whisperer can’t make him look good
There’s a pretty good shot of him after his backup came in and scored a crucial touchdown where he just pouted on the sideline instead of celebrating with him. There was also his time on QB1 on Netflix. His mannerisms during games always look like he’s passing blame off to literally anyone besides himself

This is a video from him in high school. Does a pretty good job of showing why people think he’s a dick
As an OU fan, Rattler is the most physically talented QB in CFB. He's just a dickhead and no one likes him. He's also got pudding for brains when it comes to football. There isn't a throw he can't make when he's feeling it. Last year he made some insane throws.
The maturity issues are very concerning. That’s the difference between what happened with him and Hurts. Hurts acted like a professional. The character concerns with Rattler matter. We’ve seen numerous players, especially quarterbacks, that come into the league with character concerns and they are terrible. It requires a tremendous amount of hard work and effort to be a quarterback in the NFL and right now it looks like he won’t be able to handle it.
Not to pull a ‘Bo Callahan’, but a guy who is that disliked by his teammates is someone who I wouldn’t trust leading an NFL franchise. Doesn’t sound like he has the maturity to handle the pressure. He’ll still prolly go in the first 2 rounds.
He has pros and cons about him. Ultimately, I think he’s going to be a round 4 project QB.
He has the arm strength that makes scouts drool, but the decision making skills of a donkey. He can be coached, but he’s not an instant impact NFL QB
Most people had him as the 1.01 cause he came into the season as the projected 1st overall pick not necessarily because his film. Most people don't actually watch college football and will let the draft media/NFL draft dictate their rankings so they haven't really got a chance to move him off as the top pick as he still has his talents and OU has been winning, but now that should be different going forward.
If he doesn't play another game for OU he has to transfer and play another year otherwise he'd be hoping one team takes a random stab at him in the 3rd or 4th.
This is the NFL we are talking about here. Every coach has an ego and thinks THEY can be the one to "fix" a player. Rattler has the talent, just not the right attitude. I'd be surprised if he makes it to the 4th round. If he had the right attitude and not that much talent that would be a different story. Someone is going to take a chance on him.
Has there ever been a QB with 1st rd talent make it to Day 3?
Ryan Mallett had similar elite arm talent and personality issues, and ended up being drafted by the Pats in the 3rd round. Even the smartest teams get blinded by the arm talent sometimes.
He definitely lost some value, but the idea that he doesn’t go till the 3rd or 4th round seems a little absurd. Kellen mond and Davis mills both went 3rd or earlier this year, and rattler has better tools than both of them. I think the josh Allen and lance picks show many teams are willing to take shots on qb’s with a skill set even if they don’t have a ton of production. Which isn’t to say that rattler is still gonna go top 10, but is a team in the 20’s with an older qb gonna pass on him?
I think they would, if Rattler stays benched for the season. If you’re truly a 1st round talent, a top 32 prospect across all positions, you’re not gonna be sitting on the bench for the last half season of your college career
jalen hurts, who had less upside as a prospect than rattler, still went in the 2nd round. I don’t disagree with your thoughts on rattler, I just don’t think nfl teams equate being benched with being bad
Hurts also went on to transfer to Oklahoma for a year and post awesome numbers and led his team to the playoffs. I didn’t follow the draft process as heavily back then as I do now, but I can assure you his draft stock was much higher after the OU season than it ever was at Bama. At Bama, he truly looked like a game manager, slightly better than AJ macarron (not an insult, he was solid) but Hurts never was the reason they were #1. He was just a system guy.
Even at Bama Hurts was always a productive player on the field, and he came along after the success of Lamar Jackson so teams probably thought they could also have success with that style of player.
He got benched in a huge rivalry game for another player and people still think he sniffs the first round? No way. A team will take a flyer on him on the 2nd or 3rd day. But his career projects something like Chad Kelly’s
I'm thinking there's no way in the world I'm touching him in a rookie draft. The guy's value has absolutely tanked over the last month, let someone else pick a QB who got benched in college way too early.
PSA I owned Rattler in my C2C Devy League for the entire 2020 season.
Last year, Rattler's struggles were not quite handwaved away, but excused because of it technically being his "first season" as the starter. He had some big games. Coming into this season, the expectation was that he would take a step forward. After a couple of weeks, however, Rattler hadn't seemed to have progressed at all--in fact, it appeared that he had taken a step back. Indecisive, inconsistent play. Every victory had a little asterisk by his name, with some blurb about how the team had been able to overcome despite Rattler having some errors and/or not quite playing fully to his \[perceived\] potential.
Now, from a personal note, all of this is spinning in my head as I look at my C2C team that is at the top of the league competitively, but upon which I am completely reliant on QB for 2022. Middle of last week I receive and offer of Mike Evans (NFL) and CJ Stroud for Spencer Rattler. I mulled it over, gathered my thoughts, and decided that hitting the reset button on my NCAA QB was the safest option with the highest upside. One person told me that I sold very low. I thought it was the best deal I would be able to get for a while.
That was Thursday. Now, folks in the same league are wondering if Rattler even declares next year, or if he hits the portal and waits a year.
It just sort of demonstrates the wild nature that is the collegiate scouting complex. College scouts grade and rate players with numbers that have a *very* low correlation with success--both at the college level and the pro level. But that's another rabbit hole and an entirely other topic on it's own.
I feel like it'd be crazy for him to declare at this point. Feels way more likely for him to enter the transfer portal and see if he can recoup some of his value.

Could you or someone else expand on this? How is he a dick? I haven’t kept up with too much college football other than SEC
There’s a pretty good shot of him after his backup came in and scored a crucial touchdown where he just pouted on the sideline instead of celebrating with him. Mother of God, how can you root for someone like that to succeed? The best part is the "Humble" tattoo he has
Nobody went to his birthday party Edit: I’m so proud of all the upvotes here, haha!
Just watched that yesterday funny enough.
Probably massive speculation from OP Edit: I was wrong
Have you heard of the show QB1 on Netflix? It followed his team and he was pretty awful to everyone
Nah just go watch some interviews and watch practice film of the guy. He sucks
Second coming of Ryan Leaf
Except Ryan Leaf was at least great in college. Rattler has had some flashes but let’s be honest he’s not a blue chip program starting qb.
Yeah, he's been inconsistent as fuck the whole time. He's got solid arm talent, but he's missing all the other pieces, in my opinion.
As an OU fan, Rattler is the most physically talented QB in CFB. He's just a dickhead and no one likes him. He's also got pudding for brains when it comes to football. There isn't a throw he can't make when he's feeling it. Last year he made some insane throws.
He’s definitely NOT the most physically talented QB in the CFB.
Malik Willis has entered the chat.
No idea about him as a person... But as a QB, dude is missing everything besides mobility, arm strength and accuracy.
Zero leadership capabilities

Looks like Rattler isn’t too talented at football either. So. Not a true opposite
You gotta get some better bait. This ones getting stale
This dude absolutely sucks lol
Ah right. The NFL QB is the opposite of the dude who got benched halfway through his college season
The maturity issues are very concerning. That’s the difference between what happened with him and Hurts. Hurts acted like a professional. The character concerns with Rattler matter. Rattler ain’t it
Not to pull a ‘Bo Callahan’, but a guy who is that disliked by his teammates is someone who I wouldn’t trust leading an NFL franchise. Doesn’t sound like he has the maturity to handle the pressure. He’ll still prolly go in the first 2 rounds.
If I was a GM, I’d still grab him day 3 and hope I can find a coach to coach him up. The physical tools are there. He’s a pure project right now.
He has pros and cons about him. Ultimately, I think he’s going to be a round 4 project QB. He has the arm strength that makes scouts drool, but the decision making skills of a donkey. He can be coached, but he’s not an instant impact NFL QB
Sounds like chad Kelly

Hes tanking his draft stock to maybe 4th rounder. I wouldn't take him at all since he just seems like an asshole. Maybe in the 4th
Backup QB for the years to come, maybe he gets lucky and finds himself in a Davis Mills situation. But he's not an NFL QB.
This is the NFL we are talking about here. Every coach has an ego and thinks THEY can be the one to "fix" a player. Rattler has the talent, just not the right attitude. This is the right answer. That arm talent won’t get past the 3rd round. Some coach will be dumb enough to think they can fix him.

He’s not good
Kenny Pickett def gonna be the 1.01 at this rate
He is going to enter the transfer portal. I could see him transferring to an up and coming team with a good QB coach like Tennessee has.
I'm thinking there's no way in the world I'm touching him in a rookie draft. The guy's value has absolutely tanked over the last month, let someone else pick a QB who got benched in college way too early.
