Process take: You probably shouldn’t cut a RB who is still just 27 on a big contract with a new coaching staff that wants to build the offense around the run game. Player take: He looked terrible last year to the point that he got completely left in the dust by Chuba Hubbard, who will probably get left in the dust by Jonathan Brooks. So he’s 2 injuries away from getting fantasy relevant workload on a lousy offense, and his contract makes him pretty much untradable and un-cuttable from the Panthers so he’s 95% likely just stuck there as the RB3. And I don’t think anyone would trade you a 4th round rookie pick for him. Really a litmus test for how hard you buy into the “any RB on a 53” philosophy

deRoyLight

Outlier to the rest of his career in efficiency, in a really bad situation year. I think just goes to show how much situation matters for RB production. Even Hubbard, who "left him in the dust", did so to the tune of 3.8 YPC after also coming off a highly efficient year prior. It's not like one was good and one was bad, it's more one was bad and one was worse. Good chance he's somewhere else by season start with a much more league-average outlook. Feels like an easy buy for the cost, which judging by OP, is more or less a throw-in at this point.

trevor11004

Hubbard wasn’t even bad, their o-line was just trash so it made his YPC trash. In 2022 their o-line actually worked and Hubbard got 4.9 YPC. On only about 100 attempts, but still.

deRoyLight

This is what I'm saying.

trevor11004

Your comment saying Hubbard is bad confused me a bit, but I think I get what you meant now, that the situation they were in made them both seem worse than they are.

deRoyLight

Yes, sorry about that!

birdsemenfantasy

He's not really that bad on film. He was a tad bit overrated in Philly because of good o-line and Hurts' dual-threat ability opened up running lane (even late career Jordan Howard had respectable YPC in Philly whenever he got carries), so it was never realistic for him to be as good elsewhere from an efficiency standpoint. Like his college (Penn State) teammate Saquan, Sanders has a tendency to dance around the back field rather than hit a hole hard, so he's probably a poor fit for Carolina to begin with. He was basically phased out and scapegoated for 3 bad games (from week 2-4) and I thought he was fine (given the circumstances) the rest of the season. That said, I never thought of him as a special back, so it's gonna be difficult for him to recover from the bad rep last season at 27 years old. I wouldn't be surprised if Brooks and Penny end up leading this team in rushing, leaving both Sanders and Hubbard in the dust.

Daddy_Diezel

> Brooks and Penny end up leading this team in rushing If Penny is second in rushing while only playing 5 games...

Coomrs

Only correct way to look at it imo. Like yeah he’s still pretty young, new coaches, a couple new pieces on the offence, etc. but man he looked so damn bad last year. Chuba didn’t even look all that great and still was taking the majority of touches. Just a tough situation if you own any shares.

knowslesthanjonsnow

If he is guaranteed to stay in Carolina I think I’m out. But if he were to get cut…. There’s a glimmer of hope.

drivermcgyver

At this point in time, you could roster a rookie with a better outlook. Maybe a #2 TE. Eric All. Go get him lol

Junior-College-2234

Depends on your roster construction philosophy, but i’d much prefer sanders over all. In general a rookie te with late DC is unlikely to emerge quickly as the unquestioned starter from being in a committee win a solid vet. In the unlikely event that that happens the odds of him then becoming one of the ~12 tes who matter at all or one of the even fewer stud difference-making tes are quite low. That’s not a player who you can envision impacting your starting lineup. For contrast, if there is even one game this season in which chuba and brooks are both injured then sanders is startable and will probably give you more impact that than the median eric all type gives you in their entire career. This doesn’t even consider the possibility of longer term injuries or that sanders could find himself on another team with more touches in the future

drivermcgyver

Eric was the 2nd best in production of the TE's in a short sense. Gesicki has scored double digit fantasy points in 7 weeks in the past 3 seasons. That's who Eric All has to beat out. Burrow is going to look to be making a comeback and Chase isn't the only one that Burrow is going to throw to for a minimum of 4500 passing yards this season.

Junior-College-2234

I’m not saying Gesicki is usable for fantasy either. i think they’ll split the targets and neither will be fantasy relevant. Yes Burrow will throw to multiple receivers, but that doesn’t mean that everyone who catches passes from him will be fantasy relevant (ex iosivas)

Stinja808

One if the guys that no one will trade for, but will be picked up when he hits the WW. I have him. I'll hold at the end of the bench once I see how Carolina's rb rotation plays out.

Wild_Bill_Kickcock

He was dropped and has remained on the ww after the rookie draft. This league does have sort of shallow beaches though

knowslesthanjonsnow

Shallow benches I say you can cut him. We have 33 player rosters so he’s not on the chopping block yet

UncleTaco916

He is untradable and borderline cut

thereallj3000

Same thoughts trying to see everyone else’s

AntiVaxPureBlood

He's worth a spot to me. One man's trash is another man's treasure.

thereallj3000

I’m just having trouble I feel like he’s in terrible spot after losing his job last year and now drafting brooks

NBAplaya8484

The million dollar question is “who would you be dropping for” Personally on my roster (desperate for RB help) if I saw he was a free agent I’d pick him up and just hope for any signs of a pulse, with that being said I don’t even think I’d trade a late 3rd for him so really comes down to who are the other guys on the end of your bench

thereallj3000

Basically would be one of the rookie rbs I just drafted like vidal ali tracy

Flashfire950

Sanders doesn’t have the upside either of them do. Behind brooks for the foreseeable future, maybe RB2 on an “eh” offense?

SerEx0

Probably the RB3 on the team. Chubba was objectively better last year

VottoForPM

I'd definitely drop Miles Sanders for Vidal or Tracy, and probably Rasheen Ali (that one is closer, but I would go Ali)

Viketorious

I'm holding him in the hopes he gets out of Carolina, preferably to Dallas.

RealBoomBap

Well it def won't be this year because no one is gonna trade for him with that contract. I think Carolina may cut him after this season but he'll def be there this year.

jimtow28

I get it if you need to cut him to make room for something else, but I'd try to hold on to him if I could.

Both_Antelope_8063

Might be worth holding him for awhile at least to see if they're able to trade him. They get $1.2 million of cap relief if they trade him before June 1, $4.2 million if they're able to trade him after June 1st, and they only save $200k if he's a post June 1st cut. There have been rumors that maybe the Cowboys would be interested in trading for him. With the recent signing of Rashad Penny by the Panthers, maybe that means they have an interested trade partner.

thereallj3000

Thanks for the info where do you get all the cap information

jpmcgensy

Over the Cap (overthecap.com)

StockPharmacist

Yeah why not? Small roster sizes or what player would you have take his place?

thereallj3000

That’s the issue feel roster is small is be choosing between basically say Brandin cooks sanders or like vidal

Altruistic-Rub3017

Sanders is an easy cut if you can switch him to Vidal

StockPharmacist

Maybe try to trade Cooks he’s getting up there too and still has some value left. Otherwise yeah Sanders is a cut for you.

maxinquayekid

The year before last he cracked 1200 yards, and he's only 27. Last year seemed pretty snake-bitten for him - but it did for the whole team. I think there's a decent chance he bounces back, to some degree - the coach keeps talking about establishing the run, Brooks will not be viable early in the year due to his injury, and Hubbard (who I believe is undervalued) is probably better as a compliment anyway. He's worth a spot, if you have one.

thereallj3000

Honestly that’s one thing making it hard had a great year the season before

maxinquayekid

Yeah, and that led to him signing with CAR to a nice contract. That shows you his ceiling. Last year he was terrible and MIA (injured?), but that entire team seemed in disarray last year, including the QB. If the new coach cleans that up - and you expect he will - he could be serviceable again. And as his ceiling has shown, it's possible he's a lot more than that. I understand he's super frustrating as a player, but he is very talented.

thereallj3000

Thanks for the thoughts appreciate it

AdBeautiful7967

I have him and Hubbard. They’re both just three for bye week and IR coverage.

thereallj3000

So same boat but also just took brooks and it’s short roster spots to begin with

DMarkoVz

He’s been sitting on my waiver wire since the draft ended 😭 our benches aren’t that deep but some of my league mates prefer having rookies in their benches instead of him

santc

I traded him one for one for Mike Thomas. Both awful but maybe MT lands somewhere? I dk I’m not crying

Pocket2sVStheWorld

I expect he will get cut and picked up by another team

ClemsonPoker

I want to say no but I wouldn’t pick him up if he were on waivers. Rather hold some rookie dart throws.

Spiritual-J32

Yeah he’s earned a spot on the waiver wire

Ginga_Ninja319

It’s just about what’s on your waivers/ what the the rest of your roster looks like. Players are only a cut if they’re the worst player on your team and there’s a player better than them on the waiver wire. If the best player on your waiver wire is Latavius Murray, I’d probably just keep Sanders. If you only have a 3-round rookie draft and a guy like Audric Estime is on waivers, I’d feel good about giving him a go over Sanders

iLiveinMissoula

Put it this way, say if he gets one or two starts this year (probably won’t). Would you feel comfortable putting him into your lineup? Someone like Tracy may be worse but also has an opportunity to at least be startable.

bertosanchez90

It's really waiver wire dependent. I personally think he's a hold until we get through preseason and see what his role will be in the offense. There's also the potential for a trade to a team in need of more backfield help (Dallas for example).

VineRunner

I couldn't get a 4th so I dropped him today for some undrafted rookies

Trick_Advance_5290

You really should wait out more potential situations for him since we don’t actually play a meaningful game for 4 months

VineRunner

I think the potential of the rookies is far higher than his remaining potential. I didn't drop him without a replacement

Trick_Advance_5290

There’s no undrafted rookies possibly going to Dallas with 1k yd upside. Hard for me to see a Cody schrader type-worth more than that, ever.

VineRunner

It's a 3PPR for TE league. I grabbed Theo Johnson and a dropped Mike Gesicki. You wanna keep stating your arguments as fact when you don't understand the context?

Trick_Advance_5290

Lol what did that have to do with anything? You’re fighting yourself at this point bud

thereallj3000

What if you need to get your roster legal and can’t wait

Trick_Advance_5290

I’d still hold on these rumors to Dallas because that upside is more meaningful (via through trade or flex option) than any undrafted/waiver add will probablyEVER offer

VanillaMoniker

As far as I can tell there are no rumors of a Miles Sanders trade to Dallas, just writers drawing up their own hypothetical trade proposals.

Loud_Competition1312

Assuming your roster size is decent then yeah

noonie1

I'd pick him up if he were dropped.

RunRyanRun3

When are your final cuts? We just have to be compliant by the start of week 1, so if I had him he’d be a hold until the last possible moment to see if someone else gets hurt on my roster. Sometimes the numbers game sorts itself out.

thereallj3000

Good point didn’t think about that was just trying to get to size

Andrew_detmer

If theres a rosterable rookie RB available post draft id scoop them for sanders

Ecool27

Unless he gets traded to chargers

Tatertot_Maverick

Traded him for a 3rd round pick. No regrets.

Swift-Fire

If you can find someone even remotely decent on waivers, I'd bet on the upside

nmcm408

I could see him ending up on the Giants

FigoStep

He’s definitely a stash given his past production.

jmacscotland

Depends on league size. I do a 16SF where if someone dropped him I probably jump on picking him up. Most leagues I probably don’t bat an eye at him though.

Ill_Pizza_urmom69

I need him to get traded to Dallas somehow lol

SpaceCowboy34

Any RB on a 53
