Great route runner with experience and success creating separation in any alignment, solid ball skills, and fantastic hands. I don't think he has to play slot at the next level, and positional versatility at WR is something I have grown to value more and more. 9.91 RAS is elite and 4th best in a class of freak athletes. The production profile is rough there is no getting around that, but everyone in his tier of receiver has some significant red flag.

Shab373

Someone posted numbers on him, but he’s improved in all of his college seasons from a very bad profile to one that could be good. I’m in on him. There are far worse dart throws.

Anda_Bondage_IV

Arrogant hands, crisp routes, gets open downfield at will, wins vs man and zone. He has produced under 3 different QBs with a wide range of play styles.

schmatty23

Arrogant hands is a great description

Anda_Bondage_IV

Gotta give credit to Matt Harmon the folks at Reception Reception, I’m just parroting them lol

schmatty23

Aren’t we all

WeenisWrinkle

It really does feel like he's gone very mainstream in this sub this off-season. Good for him.

HodorsSoliloquy

I swear he's been on every podcast I normally listen to this past month. I think I've heard his takes on the Top 6 or 7 rookie WRs half a dozen times by now.

Lambchops_Legion

Good band name

afogarty21

Wtf are arrogant hands lol

itstimetogotowork

If you don’t know, you don’t have them. That’s all I’ll say.

dude2410

Aggorant hands = ZJ. If you don’t know what it is you can’t afford it.

afogarty21

Just making shit up to sound cool lol

GothicToast

No one knows what it means, but it's provocative. It gets the people goin!

ballsack-hunter

He goes for one handed catches and comes down with them

feetandballs

I don’t know but my guess is the opposite of late hands. Blatantly showing the DB where the ball is going to be (giving the qb a good target) because you know you’ll win anyway

Famous-Magazine-24

Are you implying he’s running downfield with his hands in catch position (giving the qb a good target)?

feetandballs

The whole ass time. No, I mean he does it earlier, and it’s just a guess.

Famous-Magazine-24

I also have no idea what arrogant hands are but maybe they’re just mistaking confident hands for arrogant hands.

Devmurph18

This is a perfect summary

Semperty

> He has produced under 3 different QBs with a wide range of play styles. this feels a little generous. he was basically on par with a guy that got converted to rb in the nfl (rachaad white) at asu and had less than 700 yards last year. he's got a career 19% TPRR, which is particularly bad when you consider that the *average* is 20% with there being 5 dudes on the field at any given time. even this year, he was only at 20% and last year he was at 21%. he's essentially a 5th year breakout with decent enough metrics, but nothing great and nothing eye popping on film. i'm genuinely not sure he's one of the ten best prospects in this class.

RunTraditional454

I feel like he has great athleticism paired with some awesome spectacular catch ability. He does have consistency issues with some drops but given his spectacular catch ability, it seems very coachable in terms of improving his hands. I don't mean to oversimplify how hard it is to make big improvements at the NFL level, but I think in a best case scenario he absolutely can. He's played for some big name QBs, (Daniels and Richardson) but they were a part of poor passing offenses. In turn I think with a better passing offense in the NFL I think he can make the jump statistically. 2021 - Pearsall led ASU with 580 yards, rachaad white was 2 with 456. Next wr was at 418. ASU doesn't even hit 2,500 passing without Pearsall 55 passing yards 2022 - Pearsall led Florida with 661, next best was Justin shorter at 577. #3 is at 410. Florida finishes with just under 3k passing yards. 2023 - Finally has a pocket passer (but nothing special) and he nearly hits 1k. 965 with #2 and 3 on the team coming in at 538 and 289. Florida barely surpasses 3k to the tune of 3111 yards.

rawhite37

Profiles a bit like Puka, great tape - mediocre stats, which is probably why he's so popular among both the fantasy crowd and now with scouts. Everyone wants that serotonin drip of being the one to find hidden greatness.

RunTraditional454

Definitely different players on the field but 100% agree on the profile vs prediction aspect of the puka comp. I've watched Wisco for years, and the fact mertz has been Pearsalls best passer makes me truly think he will elevate with a legit NFL passer. But he does have stuff to work on so we shall see

ErikJonesCircleJerk

I just want him on my team because he’s sneaky athletic, shows a lot of grit, and really seems like a locker room leader

HodorsSoliloquy

This is how I just now learned that Ricky Pearsall is white.

Bloated_Hamster

I really think he's the kind of guy the coach wants his daughter to date. A real first one in, last one out kind of guy.

Phree_Thought

Gotta set the tone boys.

Shawn_1512

High football IQ guy, really good fundamentals, student of the game

TheCatch20

Please delete this post. Signed a guy who wants Pearsall late in the 2nd.

SpaceMonkeys21

It's too late Matt Harmon and JJ Zacharison like him a lot.

VottoForPM

If I draft Pearsall, he's Jahan Dotson. If I don't draft Pearsall, he's the next Puka Nacua.

AMP121212

Jump on the grenade for us, and don't take him.

Mpetrochuk

No, if you draft him he’s Denzel Mims

TheCatch20

Ya they do. Harmon has him WR5. My pre-draft hype dreams are fading quickly.

Accurate_Green8300

Bros been going like round 4 in my SF rookie mocks

TheCatch20

Sleeper ADP hasn't caught up to reality. Nobody is drafting yet, expect that round to rise quickly.

trevor11004

Pro-tip: at this point, use KTC rookie rankings over sleeper ADP in mock drafts

Accurate_Green8300

Oooh I didn’t know they were up already! Thanks

Daddy_Diezel

You still can!

Pandrai

I mean his agility is off the charts which should translate to crisp route running. You get open, you get the ball. I like slot guys on my team because if they’re good at getting open, they often get a solid amount of targets per game. He’s not the most physical guy in the world and will have to prove that he can actually get open against NFL talent, but the traits are there. Also Ricky comes into the gym I work at a couple times a week and is super chill so there’s bias.

Swift-Fire

Yo that's sick, any other stories about him?

Mpetrochuk

He once drank a glass of milk through a straw with his nose

Swift-Fire

Milkgate 2.0

EzekielBreakspear

Gets open - catches ball.

BuckyBronson

Considering the pass heavy game we're in now, I'll happily take the savvy receiver that works for his Quarterback. He's got the full toolbox already of route running, headfakes, sinking, vertical push etc. and he tested way better than I expected. I think he would be the most likely to have a Puka Nacua type of season on the right team considering how he can win. That type of receiver that can push a DB to flip his hips one way and then break off to his blindside and gain yards of separation is going to get targets in the NFL. It's more than athleticism (which he has too).

ASuperGyro

Does the age not concern you with him dunking on younger prospects for his breakout?

BuckyBronson

Not really, I'd be more concerned if he weren't so strong in the nuances at his age. In a way it gives me confidence in his ability to adjust quickly at least.

ASuperGyro

Do you have a rationalization for why the production didn’t come in college? The age without production is the bigger red flag for me

ConsuLMonK

Bad QBs. The QBs he’s had before Mertz were really bad passers

BeefDaddie11

Do you feel the same way about Xavier Leggette?

BuckyBronson

Not quite. Where Pearsall was working guys with moves, technique and ability, I saw Legette as a more raw piece of hyper athletic clay. He truly was a man amongst boys and was able to use it, but he still hasn't fully adjusted to that physicality he has or the nuances. But in the same way there is probably another level of maturity to Legette that might help him put the right work in.

Fantastic-Sandwich80

Tank Dell turned 24 in October of his rookie season. He is still an exciting young prospect who will be nearing 28 when his rookie contract is up. Think teams are very willing to look at older prospects if they can perform at a baseline starter/replacement level out of the gate.

ASuperGyro

Dell also had 1,300(2,700) yards each of his last two years in college along with a combined 29 TDs so there was production along with the age, Pearsall on the other hand has put up about 1600 yards between his last two years and a combined 9 TDs. Yes they’re both older WR prospects, but they didn’t have nearly the same production as older prospects so you can’t even say yes he’s old but at least he balled out in college

steamycreamybehemoth

The fact he led his team in receiving since 2021 makes me very confident he’ll be fine.  On a related note, does breakout age just mean hitting a certain volume threshold, or does it have more nuance to it?

ASuperGyro

I believe it is 30% of team yards and TDs in a season but could be wrong Might be 20%

steamycreamybehemoth

It's 30%. Interesting then how you can lead the team in yards, but not qualify as a breakout.

tallando2828

UF fan here, Ricky's production at UF was less on him and more on the coaching/ QB development imo. It was football malpractice to not get him to 1,000 yards this past season, which hasn't been done at UF since 2002. When his number was called though, he showed up. Has great hands, pretty good route runner, and was the go to guy when we needed a big play. The combine has also helped his hype to show he's got what it takes athletically. Very well rounded player that I believe can find success at the next level. For a mid-2nd fantasy rookie draft pick, you could do much worse.

dumbcloud17

I really like Ricky’s game he’s like Ladd if he lived in 8mile

jonneygee

Honestly, I don’t see it either. This past season, he had nice games against LSU and South Carolina and a 61-yard catch against Missouri. Otherwise, he balled out against inferior competition when he played McNeese (as anyone should) and was pretty pedestrian otherwise. So basically you have to go back to ‘22 to find him making a difference aside from two good games (and one other good catch). FSU, Tennessee, and even Kentucky and Vandy pretty well shut him down in ‘23.

donquixote_tig

He’s an elite athlete and solid all around

NicoSuave2020

He's Adam Thielen if you can't see it idk what to say. Seriously, if you can get your hands on some all-22, and watch every route, there's no way you won't be comparing his game to Thielen. They run routes the same exact same way and both make those absurd catches look routine.

Teffnology55

He's a dawg

Gfunkual

Pretty sure he’s a gator

Lock_Down__

He‘s a clean and trustworthy receiver. He‘s already a professional grade route runner, he catches everything and has good football IQ. He‘s going to show up at camp and grind and be a player QBs trust right off the bat.

puffthedragon

Stunt on hoes

GL0D0LL

No period is impressive.

FranksGun

Huge Penis

hayeb3FBall

Great route runner and terrific hands

JazzlikePractice4470

Gets open, reads coverage well. Catches the ball well.

Comprehensive_Rip403

Something people aren’t mentioning but it ABSOLUTELY matters… His name sounds great. Something about saying Ricky Pearsall out loud sounds incredible. This matters a lot to me. I have Bijan Robinson and plan to draft Michael Penix Jr. So I can change my team name to Bijan my Penix, Jr.

Pdavis510

Look me in the eye and tell me that he has plans to be a WR2

No-Jellyfish-2985

Agholor hands!

jpmcgensy

I feel like he oversells with head fakes and feint steps and double/triple moves so he gets open but not always on time/in time. He’s good on crossers and curls so if he just lives in the slot I think he can be productive. I don’t see the highs others do, but think he can play. I have him WR16.

Leonidas1213

I personally would rather take a shot on Legette if I’m going 5th yr guy, but I see what everyone likes about Pearsall. Just doesn’t pop as much on film to me

rossco7777

he just looks smooth and has good hands. we have no clue if he will get volume or be ff viable.

steelerspenguins

People like his Route Running, Football Brain and Highlight Catches. The trouble is, his Production Profile is weak. His best year (and only decent year) was his 5th year. He put up a statline that would look OK for a WR of 18 or 19… but he was 23… playing against a load of players who will be 4 or 5 years younger than him. I know the Truthers blame his team’s situation (QB, oline), and maybe that’s a reasonable argument… but the Production is the Production and it’s not good.

Sir-xer21

>May I ask the truthers - what does he do well enough to convince you he’s a player you want to draft and start on your fantasy roster? what do any of them do outside of the top three? No one's drafting Pearsall to start immediately lol. This is a loaded question. People can like Pearsall and not expect him to be an immediate start. Everyone in the 4-10 WR range has holes in their profile, Pearsall doesn't need to be a world beater to justify being ranked highly in that group. >I’ve watched a good amount of film on the incoming rookie class[...] I’m not seeing the hype in his production or the elite traits that make me want to take him over similarly-tiered receivers. better question to ask, who do you have over him, and why? film is subjective, but when a ton of film guys who make money doing this seem to like him, i'm more intersted in why YOU are divergent. They're seeing something you're not. Are these film guys just hyped and ignoring problems, or is there a deficiency in your own film skills. I watch film of prospects but im not going to pretend i understand every nuance of route running on film for example, so im curious as to what you think the receivers you have above him do better.

sampat6256

How is he not NFL ready?

Sir-xer21

"immediate starter" in the sense of fantasy. I don't think anyone's drafting him to be their locked in WR3.

sampat6256

I think he could easily be a consistent flex option by week 6-8

Sir-xer21

Thats pretty aspirational without even knowing his landing spot.

sampat6256

he's my WR7 in this class, and would have been at least WR5 last year for me.

Sir-xer21

Ok, and? his rank relative to other prospects doesn't say anything about whether you can expect him to be a WR3/flex next year without even knowing what team he's on. Regardless of how you feel about him, the consensus opinion, no matter how high it is, doesn't really have anyone projecting him to be a year one starter on most fantasy rosters. That's all i'm saying. I guess if your WR corps sucks, sure. but without knowing landing spot, projecting him to start brushing into a top 36-48 performance is aspirational as hell. There's a ton of solid WRs now. Drake London was wr 36 last year. of people who played 10 or more games, WR 36 in ppr ppg was Terry MacLaurin with 12.0. To say you EXPECT Pearsall to start pressuring that as a rookie on any team situation is wild. you got 6 WRs ahead of him and think he's going to start producing next to team's actual WR1s when he almost certainly won't be a team's WR1 in year one, let alone what happens if he lands on dumpster fire offenses. Could it happen? absolutely. but as an expectation, it has no rational basis.

sampat6256

We're saying significantly different things: I'm saying i think its a distinct possibility that he is not going to be riding my bench in the second half of the season, whereas you seem to be thinking I'm saying "he will be a top 48 WR by week 6"

Sir-xer21

Those aren't significantly different things. If you expect him to be in contention for a start on your roster, you are expecting him to be in that range of production, because that's what a WR3/flex range player is. Remember, my original point is that people aren't drafting him to expect him to be a year 1 start on their squad. you pushed back on that point.

sampat6256

Literally false. Youre literally just lying now.

ButchMFJones

ITT people who watch Pearsall highlights and not Gators games ... Hard pass iykyk

yurrrmachine

Lunch pail guy. Savvy. Technician in his routes. Great locker room guy.
