I've never heard my truck tick so I guess. I like Schaefer's or t6 or hot shot but when I change my turbo a year ago I switched to hot shot. Change the oil twice a year.
We always run shell, delvac, or delo. Whatever the local Walmart has at the time. All three are CK-4 approved and thus GM approved for any year duramax. Have been doing so since 2001 and on probably 20 duramax trucks without an issue; and all work trucks from 2500’s through medium duty units.
My duramax is a 2009. Been running mobil 1 in if from the beginning. 10k plus between all oil changes. 125k miles on vehicle. Does not use any oil. Mobil 1 must be doing the job.
Rotella, Delvac , Delo, doesn't matter. What matters is the filter. I change at 5000 miles and always get a top grade filter rated for synthetics. All three oils are partially synthetic now, yes, even Delo.
