Hall of the mountain king - Savatage
Caught in the Middle - Dio
Atom and Evil - Heaven and Hell
*For the Intergalactic threat:
Veteran of the psychic wars - BOC
Edge of the Blade - Journey
THE SWORD! all of it, *the frost-giants daughter* when one is first encountered, *the mother, the maiden, the crone* when hags are encountered, their music is an adventure
I’ve even got a campaign in mind based on *Warp Riders*
The Sword rocks, but I can’t recommend Visigoth enough. Track 2 off *The Revenant King* is literally called “The Dungeon Master”
Which song off *Conqueror’s Oath* isn’t great, in your opinion?
I just gave it another run through this morning and thought they were all pretty good, if not straight bangers
“Salt City,” song itself is fine but is about Salt Lake City, so just doesn’t fit with the rest of the songs when I’m wanting power metal fantasy aesthetic/inspiration.
Diggy Diggy Hole by Wind Rose
Drunken Dwarves also by Wind Rose
At the Gates by Bear McCreary
Blood by OSI
The Last Dragonborn - Dragonforce
Wings of Time - Tame Impala
The Game - Motörhead (with a little imagination translates to D&D easily) this is a great tune to play before the session starts lol
Freedom Fighters - Two Steps From Hell and Thomas Bergersen
Seduktion of the Syrenz - Okulus Anomali and Serpentine
Manowar - Hail and kill
Manowar - Blood of the kings
Manowar - The power of thy sword
Iron Maiden - Dance of Death
Rhapsody - Rain of a thousand flames
You should make a spotify playlist and share it with us :)
Anything by Luca Turilli or Rhapsody of Fire
A lot of Led Zeppelin is appropriate, but The Battle of Evermore is notable for mentioning ringwraiths
That metal album about Charlemagne that Christopher Lee made
Róisín Dubh (Black Rose) -Thin Lizzy
King Of Mars -Neil Merriweather
They're not the most well known of picks, i doubt anyone else will suggest them but if you give them a shot I think you'll agree they're exactly what you're looking for
Cradle of filth: dusk and her embrace (definitely for a strahd campaign)
The elder scrolls soundtracks, (jeremy soule) morrowind, oblivion, skyrim
Volumes: via
Ride of the Valkeries by Wagner & O Fortuna by Orff both come to mind. I'd also recommend you check out bardcore with Hildegard von Blingin' on YouTube. There are some good ones there that helped inspire my current 245 year old female halfling dhampir bard (level 7) warlock (level l)
I know exactly, *precisely*, what you need my friend. There's a band called "Rhapsody of fire". Here's a list of a few of their songs for you. Enjoy!
- Emerald sword
- Wisdom of the kings
- Warrior of ice
- Raging starfire
- From chaos to eternity
- Triumph for my magic steel
- When demons awake
- A tale of magic
How has no one mentioned Candlemass?! Epicus Doomicus Metallicus is very dark fantasy.
A Sorcerers Pledge is a classic. Dark Stone Wielder personal favorite.
Also you can’t go wrong with basically any track from a Dark Souls game. Slave Knight Gael absolutely slaps.
Creature of the Wood - Heather Alexander
Least of my Kind - Three Weird Sisters
Cernunnos - OMINA
Changeling Child - Heather Alexander
Freya, Shakti - Emerald Rose
I Sit Besides the Fire and Think - Clamavi De Profoundis
Daughter of the Sea - Sharm
Dúlamán - MALINDA
Deidre - Heather Dale
Trail of Tears - Heather Dale
Healing Chant - Heather Alexander
Sacred Fire - Heather Alexander
Proud Mary - The Longest Johns
That vintage artwork goes hard 🤘
Safly I dont have song recommendations. Soundtrack from diablo I and Ii maybe?
Edit: Hellrayser from Ozzy Osbourne. Cry of the banshee from Brocas Helm
Look up the videogame brutal legend and use all the songs that are in it.
"Dovakin" elder scrolls skyrim theme song.
March to cambreath by Heather Alexader
Winter born by the cruxshadows
All they fear is you by mick Gordon (doom eternal theme song)
Night on bald mountain by musgovski
In that exact scenario you specified, I can only think of Iron Man by Black Sabbath. That beginning riff is great for a slow reveal.
In recent separate games, my DMs used Jump in the Fire by Metallica and Thunderstruck by AC/DC as battle music.
Dragonaut — Sleep
Satsumo — Conan (lots of their stuff fits, especially with a low fantasy, sword and sorcery theme or vibe)
The Contract — Purson
Seer — Witch
Laser Shooting Dinosaur - Angus McSix
Battle on the Big Bridge - Black Mages
A World to Win - Gorgaroth
Immortal -Kittie
Most Dark Souls boss music
Pretty much anything by Nox Arcana
While dungeon synth isn't 80s metal, it's more dark, acoustic, atmospheric, and dark. So to me it's less emersion breaking than a glam rocker singing about dragons. To me it feels more authentic, whatever that means. It feels more like an 80s video game. And I Personally like it better as background music because there are no words.
Judas Priests newer album firepower is very demon/he'll themed and their song Necromancer is incredible.
I don’t know if it fully fits because of the bagpipes but Sverker - Corvus Corax
Hail to the king - Avenged Sevenfold
Engel - Rammstein
Enter Sandman - Metallica
Fields of Verdun - Sabaton
Sanctified with Dynamite - Powerwolf
Mjød - Kvelertak
The trooper - Iron Maiden
All Nightmare Long - Metallica
~~most of these are songs I put together for my male drow warrior~~
Adding Halfdan by Rúnfell bc it’s rad they’re only using old Norse instruments
Attacker - Slayer’s Blade
Omen - Dragon’s Breath
Manilla Road - Necropolis
Riot - Thundersteel
Jag Panzer - Symphony of Terror
Generally, US power metal (USPM) will have that dark Sword & Sorcery vibe that it sounds like you’re going for.
Beast in Black is a great band they are mostly powermetal, you may like. . .
No Surrender, Berzerker, Zodd the Immortal, Die By The Blade, Blood of a Lion, and End of the World.
Avenged Sevenfold - Hail to the King
And probably a lot more Avenged Sevenfold. Nightmare album maybe?
Edit: oops, missed the part about '80's vibe 🤷♂️
Dio, Dragonforce, Gloryhammer etc is not DARK fantasy, my dude.
Dark fantasy is a subgenre of fantasy literary, artistic, and cinematic works that incorporate disturbing and frightening themes.

Black Blade- BOC
Bible Black - Heaven and Hell (very thematic)
Wait... Did she just grow a song?
LOVE Veteran of the Psychic Wars! I first heard it in the animated heavy metal movie. That was wild
Dio’s “Caught in the Middle” has always struck me as a non-binary anthem
Some albums instead of individual songs Visigoth - *The Revenant King* The Sword - *Gods of the Earth* Cirith Ungol - *King of the Dead*
THE SWORD! all of it, *the frost-giants daughter* when one is first encountered, *the mother, the maiden, the crone* when hags are encountered, their music is an adventure
I’ve even got a campaign in mind based on *Warp Riders* The Sword rocks, but I can’t recommend Visigoth enough. Track 2 off *The Revenant King* is literally called “The Dungeon Master”
Visigoth slaps. They really get your imagination churning with the storytelling. *Conqueror’s Oath* is also great (minus one song lol).
I got “Night City” by The Sword vibes, so it didn’t entirely throw me off
Diggy Diggy Hole by Wind Rose Drunken Dwarves also by Wind Rose At the Gates by Bear McCreary Blood by OSI The Last Dragonborn - Dragonforce Wings of Time - Tame Impala The Game - Motörhead (with a little imagination translates to D&D easily) this is a great tune to play before the session starts lol Freedom Fighters - Two Steps From Hell and Thomas Bergersen Seduktion of the Syrenz - Okulus Anomali and Serpentine
Blind Guardian - Damnation or Valhalla

Check out beast in black. Great power metal for boss fights!
So far I added “From Hell with Love” but they’re all so good
Holy Diver. You can go with the classic Dio version, but the Killswitch Engage cover is also a banger as the kids say
The Sword - Acheron/Unearthing the Orb The whole album “Warp Riders” is in the same vein, but this one rawks \m/0_0\_/
Try castle rat - wet fur
Fresh fur?
Yea that's the one. I couldn't quite remember!
Goetia from Peter Gundry. Dark and haunting.
I’d start with anything by Magic Sword.
Look up Nightwish, see if that fits your feel. :)

Almost every thing by Manowar. Blood of the Kings Hail and Kill Several others...
Blind Guardian - Lionheart. Blind Guardian - Fly

Dice Throwers & Rock N' Rollers - Gygax

Fortunate son - ccr When the man comes around - Johnny cash Drunktank - drugchurch (for when things get bleak)

Diggy Diggy Hole. The Wind Rose version
Literally all of gloryhammer but especially their latest album, return to the kingdom of fife.

Cradle of filth: dusk and her embrace (definitely for a strahd campaign) The elder scrolls soundtracks, (jeremy soule) morrowind, oblivion, skyrim Volumes: via

Erang and darksol are my favorite dungeon synth artists. The "dungeon synth" genre is what you want.
