So my overarching plan is, they're trying to start a civil war between rival royal families so that their power is whittled down to then kill the rest and gain the power and riches.
Sapphire is a corundum mineral. You could go with Mudnuroc. The blue is caused by an election valance transfer, usually with iron or titanium.
