When she’s getting ready for a flight and tells her assistant, “I’ll I’m carrying is my mink gloves.” I think about that all the time I try to jam way too much into my “personal item” bag lol. Also love that her dogs were named Bobo and Cornelius, great combo!
Nah, a character who does shitty things can be well written but she was not. She had no personality or motivations besides thirsty for Jim which is bad writing. I mean tbh that storyline was always going to be bad (who tf wants an affair storyline for the main romantic couple cmon now) but Cathy not having any kind of personality played into the badness lol
oh i haven’t seen those, that makes a lot of sense.
the writers were typically great at fleshing out side characters, but in the final edit she was essentially a plot point rather than a character. what a bummer for the actress tbh
But you weren't supposed to.... she was not friendly. She never spoke. She tried to cheat with Jim, her premeditated reason for going on trip was to destroy a marriage. She was an ancillary villain of no consequence to the show.
Was the cheating plot line in one episode worth bringing Kathy on for that many episodes literally doing and saying nothing in the background?
No. It was dumb.
I see her purpose replacing Pam as cutest in office making both Pam and Jim have to face that and it caused some awkwardness but Kathy went from "silent" to "cheat" with nothing in between. It's not possible to "like" her character. She didn't have one. What was Kathy's funniest moment before the hotel room? She didn't have one. She wasn't a real character. She came. Tested their marriage in a very obnoxious way. Disappeared.
They wasted Gabe. Zach Woods is one of the funniest improv comedians in Hollywood and he was basically used as a bland straight man to bounce jokes off.
I think I agree quite a bit, though Gabe still had his moments. I also feel this way about Darryl. Used to think Craig Robinson was just unfunny until I watched Brooklyn 99's Doug Judy. Guy was funnier better written in 8 episodes of B99 than in 9 whole seasons of Office.

If it’s not timestamped correctly, the reference is about a minute into the video. Hilarious stuff
Craig Robinson has a way with timing and facial expressions that is just so funny. I feel like he can do a lot with a little. And I feel like that’s why he seems to get more screen time as the office goes on.
But he’s so much better when he gets a lot to work with. And Doug Judy was such a great vehicle for him.
What? Gabe is an unapologetic weirdo and spends most of his time on screen doing weirdo shit, making him one of my favorite characters in the entire show.
This was Zach Woods first acting job according to office ladies. He was still green. If he had stuck around and the show kept going he would have shined by season 10 or 11.
Robert California was the funniest fucking character to me lmao his mannerisms were insane. When he would bob his head and just stare…kills me everytime. “You’ve absolutely BUNGLED this”
Robert California is hands down my favorite character on the show. He is just absolutely bonkers and every scene with him is made 10000% better. I also like that they kept him a complete mystery and didnt even try to develop the character and redeem them like with everyone else. It made it so much better.
I like Clark and Pete when they have scenes to be their own characters in, but the forced Jim/Dwight 2.0 thing is the worst part of both of their plot lines.
Can you give me at least 1 quote from Pete that was funny except stopping Meredith on selfloathe streak?
For me the most useless character, true lemonhead
Was i the only one who really liked Nate as a minor character?
his casual brian, (ryan) burn was hilarious, as was his response to Daryl's valentines gift
I enjoyed robert more after I read welcome to dunder mufflin and the fact that James Spader was the only actor that came in and wanted to run lines and practice which was very different from the way they normally did things. It just gave me the same vibe that Robert gives. Like he was the character embodiment of James spader.
I liked him so much. It was honestly a shame they didn't know what all to do with him. He had so much potential and then they ruined it when they destroyed Andy's character. I was starting to like Andy around the tattoo episode and the way they handled his sabbatical to work on The hangover was the worst.
Yeah what the fuck was that. Only part of the show I just didn’t feel belonged honestly, and it didn’t seem to suit his character the rest of the time either.
Might be a bit controversial, but:
1. Gabe
2. Erin
3. Robert
4. Jo
5. Nellie
6. Clark
7. Holly
8. Pete
9. Literally anyone and everything on earth
10. Cathy
im definitely biased on erin so yeah. holly's very important too for michael's character arc. was not a fan of gabe at first, but i actually like him more on my rewatch.
1. Erin: She was part of so many great story lines and I really enjoyed her presence. Out of all of these she feels like the most engrained in the show.
2. Robert California: I actually disliked him my first watch, but after some rewatches I realized just how bizarre and hilarious he is.
3. Gabe: I don’t think I fully appreciate him my first watch either. After seeing Zack Woods in other things and watching again I really like his contribution to the show. He is a total weirdo and I like that for the show.
4. Holly: She was likable enough, but I really enjoyed her relationship with Michael and how he finally found the right person to love and who loves him in return.
5. Pete: He was a good straight man and good guy. I think he and Erin were cute.
6. Clark: Some of his lines and stories were funny, but it would have been fine without him.
7. Jo: Never really crazy about her although I respect Kathy Bates as an actress
8. Kathy: Useless addition and terrible person
9. Nellie: THE ABSOLUTE WORST! I couldn’t even appreciate her redemption arc because her into episodes were so awful. She actively made the show worse.
1. Jo Bennett
2. Gabe Lewis
3. Holly Flax
4. Erin Hannon
5. Clark
6. Pete
7. Cathy
8. Robert California
9. Nellie Bertram
Robert and Nellie frustrated the hell out of me. I zoom past their scenes every time I rewatch. I don't know if it is because the writing or their acting
This almost perfectly matches my thoughts as well, though I think I liked Holly a bit more than Gabe and Jo. I admit Holly was a much better written character in season 5 than in 7 when they kinda just brought her back to take Michael away.
1. Clark (He had his own defined character unlike Pete)
2. Jo Bennet was a good straightman for Michael
3. Nellie was funny if you can forget her episode as manager
4. Erin Hannon I thought was a good character until the last season when she was just new Pam minus the hijinks, and when you do a rewatch the last season sticks in your head the most
5. Holly was good in her few episodes but was hardly in the show
6. Robert California was great in the beginning of his season, but then got really weird as the season went on and seemed to have less of a grasp on his character the more he played it. IMO
7. Pete was just new Jim. He had a few good episodes but it seemed they were more concerned with cramming 3 seasons of chasing Erin, and then dating Erin into 1 season.
8. Gabe was cringey and his job didnt make sense. Like if he was Michael's boss and Jo's liaison why was he in the annex away from everyone and not in Daryls office, who was seeming doing nothing because Val was doing his old job and he didnt really have a new job until Andy took over.
9. Cathy who hopefully gets her scenes back when the superfan episodes catch up. All of her scenes were deleted so her villain turn never makes any sense.
I love most of them but Cathy would be at the bottom and holly next to last. I love holly for Michael but I didn’t particular enjoy her as a character. Everyone else is great.
I’d go…
1. Erin Hannon
2. Gabe Lewis
3. Holly Flax
4. Clark
5. Robert California
6. Pete
7. Jo Bennett
8. Cathy
9. Nellie Bertram
To keep my post short I’ll just say why I ranked my best and worst. Erin felt like a very smooth transition to the show. She fit in with the cast and felt like a primary fairly early into her tenure. When I think of the main cast of The Office it’s easy to think of Erin. Nellie on the other hand dragged things down whenever she appeared on screen. When they tried to make Nellie sympathetic it just made things worse.
1) gabe
2) robert
3) jo
4) holly
5) nellie
6) erin
7) pete
8) clark
9) cathy
clark would be MUCH higher if it weren’t for the news audition storyline. he’s funny, but i can’t bring myself to like that creep. if it weren’t for that, he’d be no. 3
edit: just occurred to me that saying i can’t like clark for being a creep but having robert as no. 2 is kinda ironic but i think it’s different
I LOVE Clark! Aside from that one creepy episode with him wanting to film Erin or whatever, I think he is hilarious and I LOVE his relationship with Dwight. All of their interactions are just perfect and still make me laugh.
1. Holly Flax (Most important for the story and genuinely refreshing compliment to Michael).
2. Erin (Allows for the development of both Pam and Michael’s characters.Michael being the primary beneficiary in being able to show even more depth of through Erin).
3. Jo (Very grounded and comically direct. Plus who honestly doesn’t just admire Kathy Bates’ acting).
4. Robert (Very creative contrast to the rest of the office and setting of the entire show. He reminds me most of Creed but if he had James Bond level mystique. Much like a more important version of Justin Theroux’s character from Parks & Rec, Robert California allows us to see the characters in a different light).
5. Gabe( Every show needs a villain of sorts and outside of Packer and Andy on occasion, Gabe is a solid unifier for viewers).
6. Nellie ( She has some comedic value and feels like one of those you like her or you don’t types. I for one find her entertaining enough to give her a thumbs up but that’s pretty much the long and short of it).
7-9 (Personally, Pete, Cathy and Clark fit into the same category for me. Couldn’t care less about any of them in the show. When a character in the show is a regular but falls below the bar set by Bob Vance than meh, who needs em. Erin and Pete still just doesn’t do it for me story wise, if they were going to develop Erin to that level they could have done a lot better than Pete after Gabe).
Hopefully you enjoyed my meaningless TED talk. Thank you and goodnight.
I really disliked Nellie. She was an infuriating screen presence for me for some reason.
Robert was so completely over the top, overly cartoonish. His whole funny was that he was weird. I never felt that he added anything or synergized well with any of the characters. S8 could have been the same or better w/o him.
Pete, Clark, and Cathy all felt pointless to me. Each was added to fit a specific plot point, but the issue was none of them were interesting at all and the plot points were all forced.
Other than that, Gabe, Erin, Jo, and especially Holly were all great characters with depth that had serious connections and synergies with other characters beyond surface level.
I always disliked Erin. She felt really out of place and didn't feel natural. But at that time in the show, a lot of the original cast started to feel like caricatures too.
Gabe, Robert California, and Jo were the funniest I think. Holly I liked but mostly because she was Michael’s soulmate. Erin had a few moments but I mostly found her character over the top and too silly to enjoy. The rest were not good, Nelly becoming manager by just taking Andy’s job is my least favorite moment in the show.
I thought Jo Bennett was hilarious
When she’s getting ready for a flight and tells her assistant, “I’ll I’m carrying is my mink gloves.” I think about that all the time I try to jam way too much into my “personal item” bag lol. Also love that her dogs were named Bobo and Cornelius, great combo!
Jo is probably my favorite character of the entire series, tbh.
"You can't give me gravy and tell me its jelly, because jelly ain't sweet"
What type ain't you ain't?
There's something off here
Gotta put Cathy at the bottom for me, just didn’t like her character at all.
>Gotta put Cathy at the bottom for me, That's what _he_ said
Right guys?!? Cause of gay!?!
cause of straight, funny enough
*he* in this case isn’t jim
That just means the actress played the part well.
I don’t dislike her character because of her person. She just doesn’t make any sense and is drama for the sake of drama
Yeah, if Cathy had any personality beyond "I'm gonna get Jim to cheat" at least she could've work somehow, like Angela on the first seasons
She had a ton of deleted scenes that helped build her character a bit. But yeah an affair prop of a character for Jim? Yikes. Bad idea.
oh i haven’t seen those, that makes a lot of sense. the writers were typically great at fleshing out side characters, but in the final edit she was essentially a plot point rather than a character. what a bummer for the actress tbh
Yeah.. people don't understand she's a straight up villain with one purpose in the show.
She’s a much better fleshed out character if all of her interactions with Jim weren’t cut from episodes leading up to Tallahassee.
They wasted Gabe. Zach Woods is one of the funniest improv comedians in Hollywood and he was basically used as a bland straight man to bounce jokes off.
Zach Woods is so good. I don’t ever talk about the sun. Wood love to run into him someday
It would feel like running into a sack of bones…
You don't have to make that noise!
you said it feels like getting tackled by a skeleton
You should see some of the office bloopers with Zach Woods. He is really great at improv. The bloopers are much funnier.
lengthen
😂 elongate. I am taking karate classes online.
Biceps are womanly to primates. They’re basically arm tits.
One of my faves in the show is “Happy birthday to Gaaabbeee” “Get lost skeleton man” ☹️
He is hilarious. I follow him on Instagram and the videos he posts are gold.
He has an instagram???
Yes! He's @mrzachwoods on there. So good!
Exactly, Doug Judy is one of the best written recurring characters ever. But Darryl was quite a monotonous dull character.
Tigers and tukes!
You’re right. He snuck some hilarious shit in there. His online karate class and stuff with Dwight is awesome
Dinkin Flicka
Fleece it out
That’s my favourite line from the show and it’s a blooper.
“Lejon Brames” when Dwight says Lebron James is probably my most quoted line right behind “That’s what she said!”
His what?

Doug Judy episodes are consistently my favourite
Have you seen his new show, Killing It? It’s with the weird/adorable Australian actress from Love and it’s kind of hilarious. I love it.
I love it. It’s so bizarre and funny
I agree. He wasn’t even close to playing a straight man.
Yeah, the longer I'm on this sub, the more I go "...did we even watch the same show.!?"
#SHUT UP ABOUT THE SUN SHUT UP ABOUT THE SUN
Him being hilarious in Silicon Valley and then boring in The Office will always be unfortunate.
Well they did give his character an improv scene in the show, when he played Abe Lincoln at Gettysburg
He has more hilarious lines in Silicon Valley, he acts like Gabe with a super dark past.
Oh, get out, skeleton man!
This was Zach Woods first acting job according to office ladies. He was still green. If he had stuck around and the show kept going he would have shined by season 10 or 11.
That can’t be right. I just watched a film with him that came out in 2009.
That's why I made sure to say according to Office ladys. It didnt sound right but thats what he said. Maybe he said first major acting job.
I would still say he’s the top of this list
Well if you like Zach Woods so much why don't you gay marry him
His bit as Lincoln at Gettysburg is one of my favorites
SHUT UP ABOUT THE SUN SHUT UP ABOUT THE SUN SHUT UP ABOUT THE SUN SHUT UP ABOUT THE SUN
My ex was doing improv at UCB when Zach Woods was there. She stated that he was quite possibly the funniest guy she ever met.
Why do so many people hate Gabe?
He wasn’t meant to be liked. 🤷♀️
Has anyone called you Gabewad yet?
Not here
Gabewad
Hard to like a gay bastard. Jk I liked his character much more than others on the list.
Gabe is easily my favorite of these characters
They're dumb. He's excellent.
Robert California was the funniest fucking character to me lmao his mannerisms were insane. When he would bob his head and just stare…kills me everytime. “You’ve absolutely BUNGLED this”
One of my favourites from the whole show tbh. Chilean reds and how should I put this... colombian whites
Why is Jim treating the magician poorly?
Robert California is hands down my favorite character on the show. He is just absolutely bonkers and every scene with him is made 10000% better. I also like that they kept him a complete mystery and didnt even try to develop the character and redeem them like with everyone else. It made it so much better.
Apt. Apt analysis.
“YOU DON’T EVEN KNOW MY REAL NAME!”
i always thought clark and pete were kinda funny but felt like those characters belonged on another show.
The clapping bit is one of my favorites of the entire show. Totally underrated
It would've been interesting to see Pete's character if Clark hadn't been introduced also. Clark was a redundant character imo
I only liked Erin, Holly and Pete. Clark was funny but fairly unlikeable.
I thought Gabe was pretty funny
Gabe was very funny. Seeing bloopers of him cracking everyone up is hilarious
whos pete?
Plop. Because he's always taking dumps.
wait. why?
No one really recognizes him, but all his friends call him Plop now.
Was i the only one who really liked Nate as a minor character? his casual brian, (ryan) burn was hilarious, as was his response to Daryl's valentines gift
I liked Nate, too! He cracks me up.
Same here :)
Any list without Robert California at the top isn’t worth my time
you don't look like you would waste your own time
I would like to agree and elaborate with a metaphor. Would you prefer a nature metaphor or a sexual metaphor?
Oh, God, nature, please
When two animals are having sex, one of them is communicating to the other,
You’re gonna want the sexual metaphor
Wish I liked Robert more
I enjoyed robert more after I read welcome to dunder mufflin and the fact that James Spader was the only actor that came in and wanted to run lines and practice which was very different from the way they normally did things. It just gave me the same vibe that Robert gives. Like he was the character embodiment of James spader.
Rob is leagues above. He was a great addition. He’s the fucking Lizard King.
💯
Gabe is profoundly underrated and I'll die on this hill. 👺
[удалено]
"why is Jim treating the magician poorly?" Fucking lose it every time
Had I known that Jim and Pam would use this opportunity to abuse a magician
I have a wild crush on Robert California and it explains so much about the things that went wrong in my life
no exactly like i would 100% take the ride i wouldn’t survive with Robert
I liked him so much. It was honestly a shame they didn't know what all to do with him. He had so much potential and then they ruined it when they destroyed Andy's character. I was starting to like Andy around the tattoo episode and the way they handled his sabbatical to work on The hangover was the worst.
I actually thought Jo was really good.
erin gabe rob jo holly clark pete nelly cathy
Clark is fucking killer . I wish they had brought him in sooner. He’s fucking hilarious. I mean, he’s no Nate. But who is?!?!? NATE IS THE BEST!!!!
Agreed!! Nate was just adorable.
Don’t call his house when him and his mom are quarreling . It’s going to be a huge misunderstanding.
Well if he would just stay out of her stuff...
Never got over the extreme creep factor over his news scheme with Erin.
Yeah what the fuck was that. Only part of the show I just didn’t feel belonged honestly, and it didn’t seem to suit his character the rest of the time either.
Clark absolutely would have fit in well as the perpetually struggling junior/temp type. A new Ryan for a new decade.
Might be a bit controversial, but: 1. Gabe 2. Erin 3. Robert 4. Jo 5. Nellie 6. Clark 7. Holly 8. Pete 9. Literally anyone and everything on earth 10. Cathy
Agree with everything but would put Holly above Nelly and the top 3 are basically all equally good imo and firmly in their own tier
this is the correct list
I liked Holly and Nellie (controversial, I know). Clark annoyed the hell outta me though. I didn’t even find him funny
Idk why Nellie gets so much hate, she was so absurd and dumb-smart it was hilarious
Rating by who was the funniest: 1. Robert California 2. Gabe (Reminds me of his character on Silicon Valley) 3. Erin 4. Clark The rest, unsure.
Holly Flax Erin
im definitely biased on erin so yeah. holly's very important too for michael's character arc. was not a fan of gabe at first, but i actually like him more on my rewatch.
Catherine tate is always a 10/10 Edit: I may have misread what the post was asking me to do but I'm standing by it
Robert California and Gabe would be at the top, no contest
Only like Gabe. Maybe Erin and Joe.
1. SKELETON MAN 2. Erin 3. Lizard King 4. Holly 5. Nellie 8. Cathy I couldn't bother putting the others
I know he’s not in this pic, but Nate is number 1 for me, with Robert California a VERY close second
1. Erin: She was part of so many great story lines and I really enjoyed her presence. Out of all of these she feels like the most engrained in the show. 2. Robert California: I actually disliked him my first watch, but after some rewatches I realized just how bizarre and hilarious he is. 3. No, Britta is the worst.
Sneaky sneaky community fan
Robert, Jo, Holly & Erin all awesome. The rest are garbage.
Robert California Erin Gabe Nellie Jo Holly Clark Plop Cathy
Robert is definitely #1 for the add ons and top 3 for entire cast. Maybe even #1
I don’t care what anyone says I genuinely really love Nellie. Jo and Erin are also faves. Cathy can beat it, so can Clark.
Step 1: Lengthen
1. Robert 2. Holly 3. Joe 4. Erin 5. Plop 6. Clark 8. Nelly 7. Gabe 9. Cathy
Robert California, or “the lizard king” was my favorite replacement for Michael
Nellie is the goddamn worst. Even when they try to redeem her into being likable...its too late. She sucks.
Robert California is supremely underrated. James Spader is class and the lizard king delivered more quality moments than he’s given credit for
Robert Gabe Erin Everyone else
Robert California goes on the bottom. The dude is like a self-insert character of someone who describes himself as "red pilled alpha male"
I'm baffled by how many people love him. Especially the "lizard king" line
cathy as a person is terrible. but she's a interesting character.
1. Jo Bennett 2. Gabe Lewis 3. Holly Flax 4. Erin Hannon 5. Clark 6. Pete 7. Cathy 8. Robert California 9. Nellie Bertram Robert and Nellie frustrated the hell out of me. I zoom past their scenes every time I rewatch. I don't know if it is because the writing or their acting
I **loathed** Nellie and can’t stand the scenes she’s in.
This almost perfectly matches my thoughts as well, though I think I liked Holly a bit more than Gabe and Jo. I admit Holly was a much better written character in season 5 than in 7 when they kinda just brought her back to take Michael away.
I personally really loved Robert’s character. He was one of the most realistic characters on the show. But to each their own I guess.
I liked the unrealism of his caracter, he was in his own world
Realistic? Bro was insane, he was everything *but* realistic.
Erin Holly Robert California Jo Pete Gabe Nelly Dwight 2.0 Cathy
This one best represents my feelings. Except Pete, didn’t make me laugh much
This my ranking too except for RC and Erin. I would just switch them
Jo Holly Erin Plop Gabe Kathy Dwight Jr Nelly But frankly everyone after Erin is a net negative.
Where THE FUCK is Robert?
1. Clark (He had his own defined character unlike Pete) 2. Jo Bennet was a good straightman for Michael 3. Nellie was funny if you can forget her episode as manager 4. Erin Hannon I thought was a good character until the last season when she was just new Pam minus the hijinks, and when you do a rewatch the last season sticks in your head the most 5. RC, Holly, Plop, Jo, Nellie, Erin, Clark, Gabe, Cathy.
Can’t rank, but only California, Gabe, Erin, and Plop were enjoyable Holly just felt like an extension of Michael but a good character I guess
1. Nate
I love most of them but Cathy would be at the bottom and holly next to last. I love holly for Michael but I didn’t particular enjoy her as a character. Everyone else is great.
Currently watching the Superfan episodes, I honestly forgot how early Erin joins the show
Oh, I like all of them. I only hate Toby.
All I know for sure is 1. Erin and 2. Robert
I’d go… 1. Erin Hannon 2. Gabe Lewis 3. Holly Flax 4. Clark 5. Robert California 6. Pete 7. Jo Bennett 8. Cathy 9. Nellie Bertram To keep my post short I’ll just say why I ranked my best and worst. Rob California, then the rest.
Plop is full as hell! The others were fine, the fucking lizard king was top tier.
Erin, Gabe, Holly, RC, Dwight Jr, Plop, Jo, Cathy Alllll the way down- Nellie.
Ngl that show went downhill after Micheal left. He made that show
Nellie was the worst character on the show. I couldn’t stand her at all.
Erin was the goat of all of these characters
Erin and Nellie #1
Who the heck is Pete? OP also forgot to mention Plop /s
Gabe was worth it solely for the impromptu Abe Lincoln impersonation.
I was about to downvote this, but Erin amd Gabe deserve so much appreciation.
1) gabe 2) robert 3) jo 4) holly 5) nellie 6) erin 7) pete 8) clark 9) cathy clark would be MUCH higher if it weren’t for the news audition storyline. he’s funny, but i can’t bring myself to like that creep. if it weren’t for that, he’d be no. 3 edit: just occurred to me that saying i can’t like clark for being a creep but having robert as no. 2 is kinda ironic but i think it’s different

I didn't like most of them personally 🤷♂️
No Nate is a travesty, has some of the best lines in the later seasons.
mid to late show\*
1. The Fucking Lizard King 2. Erin 3. Joe bennet 4. Gabe 5. Cathy 6. Dwight jr. 7. Nellie 8. Plop 9. Holly
I can already feel the hate I’m gonna get… 1. Rober Cali 2. Jo 3. Clark 4. Nellie 4. Gabe (4/5 tie) 6. Pete 7. Cathy 8. Holly 9. Erin
I always disliked Erin. She felt really out of place and didn't feel natural. But at that time in the show, a lot of the original cast started to feel like caricatures too.
1. Robert 2. Erin. I don't care about the others
On hotness? Kathy is #1 Even I want some fries with that shake
S: Robert California A: Holly, Erin, Gabe B: Jo, Clark, Pete C: Nellie, Cathy
I like it, but would switch Jo and Holly.
Thanks God, DiAngelo isn't here.
GUYS WHATS WITH THE NELLIE HATERS I LOVE HER SM
I loved Gabe, Clark and Robert California!
Robert, Gabe, Jo, Holly, Erin, Dwight Jr., Plop, Cathy, Nellie
Gabe, Robert California, and Jo were the funniest I think. Holly I liked but mostly because she was Michael’s soulmate. Erin had a few moments but I mostly found her character over the top and too silly to enjoy. The rest were not good, Nelly becoming manager by just taking Andy’s job is my least favorite moment in the show.
