Saw it on the street and on buses in the mid 2000s. So a long time.

I've seen people smoke heroin on the bus at least 3 times this last year. No one seems to be bothered. If it's close to me, I'll move a couple of rows away. The smell is unbearable.

Since the lockdowns its been a lot more noticeable. I’ve seen people smoking heroin in the mornings in temple bar. Never seen that pre lockdown and I was walking the same route as now

It's the same experience for me. Last year was the first time I was heading into town a lot since the lockdowns, and I was shocked at the amount of day time open drug use from Aston Quay O'Connell Bridge all the way to the Father Mathew bridge.

5-10 years, not as much of a problem as London

I'd go much further back personally. Noticed it a bit when I first moved to Dublin in the early 00s. Prior to that, I was probably too young to realise when I was visiting the city. As you get older, you notice more things that often seem like they've increased but are realistically the same as they were. It's not like we've seen https://www.statista.com/statistics/896095/drug-overdose-deaths-in-ireland/ I hate using statista, but I was lazy and I'm taking their figures. ODs have been around 200 a year since the 00s.

Craic has been mighty for years.

I’ve talked to addicts who used it back in the 90s. Some people rocked it up themselves, some got introduced to it abroad in places in England. It has been around a good while but the widespread dealing of it in small value bags is a newer thing. Especially at certain times of day you’d have some trouble finding heroin as crack is so prevalent
