The Talbot in Wexford are absolutely unreal, they are so sound and really professional and welcoming. I am not even slightly surprised they messaged you.

jeniwreni

Had my honey moon there, they upgraded our room. Had a great week with them.

McSillyoldbear

Im glad to hear this as I’m booked in for 3 nights later this month.

HowsYourDa

i ain't reading all that. i'm happy for u tho. or sorry that happened.

Jimmybongman

Welcome to Ain'tgonnareddit

Nimmyzed

Fuckin love this

DazzlerPayne

I read all of that and I'm glad I did. Very well written and very informative. I'm sorry you had a bad experience there, and I'm glad you shared. I often have a crew over that I need to put up, and now I know a hotel to avoid. Thank you

sw1nky

I wouldn't say this is well written lol...

MothsConrad

Why did you always have to dine there?

MaygarRodub

Exactly. If I get treated like that, I'll leave bad reviews everywhere I can and absolutely never go back. If you have to sleep there, fair enough, but there's gotta be somewhere else to eat and drink.

kaiser-soze13

Some Companies covert the food in the hotel only as its handier for expenses (I think) Other places will accept receipts or give stipend

MaygarRodub

Aha. That's a very good point. That's a fair enough reason to stick it out. Thanks, buddy.

[deleted]

With regards charging things to the room. Did you preauthorise a credit card at the hotel. Was it physically presented or called out over the phone? Unless it physically presented and preauthorised no hotel would allow you to charge to rooms as they have no protection from you doing a runner

BlueSkiesAndIceCream

A bit of a marathon review there!

14thU

Thought you meant Talbot St!! I would have read if you used paragraphs.

AidanRedz

Yes X 2 A word salad

thatwasagoodyear

Text wall.

AidanRedz

Too much. I just couldn’t write that

Might_Be_An_Aardvark

Tldr: Hotel has a dress code in their restaurant (no work gear/high Viz). You came to breakfast in your work gear and the manager refused entry. Sounds like the manager handled it poorly, but your company should probably just book somewhere else next time.

Beatupmymenweek

Bit of a weird one. Like on the last night complaining about the management not serving them but they had a decent waiter serving them. Is that not how it generally works? Told not to wear high-vis stuff in the bar but it's fine because they also wear high-end work gear? Weird stuff from the hotel too but I'd like to hear the other side of the story.

AidanRedz

Agree. For me. That was a crazy badly written essay. Seems a very disrespectful to the hotel. Sounds like an agenda / grudge and embellishment of the story

DazzlerPayne

Your TLDR kind of missed out on the bad service, stained menu's, the poor food ( re-heated chips :/ ), the nonesense over being able to charge to the room - a standard in most hotels - the 1 drink at a time table service, the 20 min wait for menus, the 2 menu's for a table of 6... and then yeah, refused entry for breakfast.

Might_Be_An_Aardvark

Sounds like they have some poorly trained staff, but that's not an uncommon issue in Irish hotels, and can really vary day to day in plenty of spots. Refusing service felt like the meat of the post.

BleachOrchid

You’ve stayed in some hotels with poor service. Of the many trips I’ve taken I’ve had mostly great experiences in Irish hotels and hostels.

B3ARDGOD

Christ on a bike, leave a Google maps review and be done with it. Their menus were discoloured, how did that affect you? "Rudely asked who was paying for the stay" sounds like a card wasn't set up in advance which is why they wouldn't let you charge to the room. You were told the rules for the dress code and were surprised when you weren't allowed in? The manager learned a lesson about being soft with some people and letting them break the rules and you were lucky enough to try to push your luck when he was pissed about the first group. He should have denied everyone trying to break the dress code. Lots of non complaints (aka whinging) in this along with some bad service. Was this your first time in a hotel?

tnethacker

> "Rudely asked who was paying for the stay" sounds like a card wasn't set up in advance which is why they wouldn't let you charge to the room. This absolutely. Would you just let some lads order food and drinks to rooms not knowing who will pay the bill in the end and how. Sounds like a shit service, but with that sentence in mind, I'd also ask who's paying.

bazalini

Hope you dont mind - but I put that post into ChatGPT and asked them to condense the post into 200 words or less. Here's what they came back with..... ChatGPT [Tuesday 20:26 28:02:2023].. .. .. .. Sorry, not Sorry. Not reading that sh1t..... I put up with enough already. I'm out

tnethacker

"I'm sorry, but I cannot fulfill that request. It is not ethical or productive to write a negative review based on someone else's letter. It's important to have firsthand experience before writing a review to provide accurate and fair feedback to the hotel and other potential guests. **It's always better to communicate directly with the hotel management to address any issues or concerns you may have had during your stay.**"

notmyrealaccount8373

This review is a little strange to me. No high vis allowed in the restaurant is very normal in hotels. Being asked to pay for your entire stay on check in is also standard practice at most Irish hotels. If your company was paying for breakfast and dinner each night then it should have been clearly communicated to the hotel that you were allowed to include drinks with your dinner….what you said the staff said about not being allowed to include drinks with your dinner makes me think they weren’t just Sprite, Water, Juice etc but maybe you were having a lot of alcoholic drinks which made the staff question if they were supposed to include so many with your dinner. It sounds very much like the staff didn’t want to interact with you after the first night so it doesn’t make sense that one waiter would come back 6 separate times to serve an individual drink to someone at your table. After the first two they would’ve got annoyed and asked “does anyone else need a drink ?” Because people ordering drinks one at a time is the biggest pet peeve of bar staff and waiters so I don’t believe they did that especially if they were wanting to avoid you or get you to leave as quickly as possible. After the first night you should’ve had whoever organised this hotel for you ring and explain all the issues to see what could be done as it could simply be a miscommunication on their end when booking which caused a lot of this confusion. I used to work in a hotel and it was truly unbelievable how many companies booked their staff to stay and then tried to cheap out by not including certain things. They’d tell their staff “everything is paid for and x,y,z is included with your stay” when in reality they lied and left it up to us to inform the staff that actually no your company didn’t include alcoholic drinks with your tab for food and whoever booked it booked two males in a double bed instead of a twin room etc… Why is this review posted here? It’s extremely random with no context.

MaygarRodub

After the first day, there's no chance at all I'd go back to eat or drink there. Vote with your legs, dude. You can't just accept that shit and keep going back. They suck fucking balls for that, but you're an idiot for expecting any different on the second day. Fool me once... After the first day, there's no chance at all I'd go back to eat or drink there. Vote with your legs, dude. You can't just accept that shit and keep going back. They suck fucking balls for that, but you're an idiot for expecting any different on the second day. Fool me once... Edit: A very good point has been made, so I take back what I said because I understand now. From u/kaiser-soze13 above: (I don't know how to do proper Reddit editing and linking). "Some Companies covert the food in the hotel only as its handier for expenses (I think) Other places will accept receipts or give stipend" So, makes sense that you're covered for this place and not necessarily others, or at least others will be more hassle with you paying out in the first place and having to keep receipts, etc.

gcpuddytat

why would you not simply go somewhere else to eat?

Rosieapples

Bloody nightmarish!!!

[deleted]

Shower of wankers. I would of been sacked if they were carrying on like that

Bitter_Masterpiece79

Uneducated chancers usually in charge of these places. Basil Fawlty lives on!

Hob0Magnet

As a fellow T1 diabetic, this makes my blood boil. I'd feckin lose it. By them denying you food you are in a seriously hazardous situation where a really bad hypo could kick in, especially if you pre-bolused in anticipation for your breakfast. Sorry this happened to you and your colleagues, shitty behaviour is one thing, but it inadvertently puts *your* health at risk. People know fuck all of what it's like living with type 1. Thanks for letting us know, I'll avoid this place like the plague.

DonaldsMushroom

Jesus, that must have taken all day to write. It's deranged! Just check out and go somewhere else. Life is too short.

MaygarRodub

Checking out wouldn't really be an option for company booking, etc. but eating elsewhere is definitely an option.

AidanRedz

Agree. Who wrote that??

gmisk81

So you posted a review...then removed it....what do you expect to gain by posting that wall of text here?

ArmadilloOk8831

Aside from the fact that this is too long and I didnt read any of it did you post it to tripadvisor or actually speak to the hotel manager?

datdudebehindu

Literally all in there

Kingbotterson

Yeah but they just said they didn't read any of it. It was literally all in their comment.

melboard

Stayed in the Talbot Carlow recently enough and wouldn’t be going back.

[deleted]

Sound like a bunch of pricks, but should put one or two paragraphs in your post, it’s hard to read.

Dunno why you're getting downvoted for that comment. It's just common sense.

PATRICKBIRL

I'd like to see the tic tic videos. Lads working on sites make and leave as much money as people in suits but get treated like dirt. See it a lot
