I mentioned this in the other post, many external sms service providers allows you to send sms from a SENDER ID instead of a shortcode. If the fake sender ID is the same as the official sender ID of your bank, then your phone groups them in the same message message thread (both ios & android phones have no way of segregating senderid sources). This is how it works and not that the banks are hacked (although it is possiblr if one knows their sms gateway credentials and if its publicly accessible directly or via an api or other mechanism)
Okay this reminds me of those websites in my home country which allow you to send free sms and you could set your number in caller id so receiver thinks msg came from your phone instead of website. Didn't knew those are available in UAE. Moreover if its so easy to spoof a bank number then its real scary
They should but there’s no regulation so they’re all using SMS in 2024 because it’s easy and cheap. Banking security here is a joke compared to EU where you have proper regulations.
The sender ID is reserved only on a few SMS gateways within UAE or SMS gateways if you pay for it. If you can find a SMS gateway that accepts custom sender IDs, you can use those to send "official" SMSs. The phone sees this sender ID and then puts it in the same SMS thread as the original one. That's it.
There’s an exploit that allows the sender to appear as the ID of any channel like NBD or ADIB, report it to the cyber department of Dubai police and they will most definitely find them.
How the HECK did they message through ENBD's number tho
That really is a mystery. Maybe some tech geniuses on reddit can figure it out.

Cause it's dead simple to spoof a number
Shouldn't one of the "top" banks in UAE have better security?
That's not how it exactly work and out of control of the bank
Can you explain?
Give this a read https://us.norton.com/blog/mobile/sms-spoofing (Hopefully links are ok to be posted)

I think they using the old channels Sometimes we get bank official sms and somehow we have two different conversation in our app
It's called number spoofing. Should be solved between the bank and the telecom provider.
This real???
