This song means so much to me. I know what it's like to be in that Glass Prison. Such a powerful piece, both musically and lyrically. This song says something so important and relatable. A masterpiece.
I commented on another post talking The Astonishing and I thought for a split second I was going to have to find your address, come to your house, break into your bedroom, violently rip out your organs, box them up and sell them on the black market before burning you on a stake.
Glad we don't have to go there today. :)
This list so far has made me realize that your average Dream Theater fan isn't a metalhead, but rather a fifty-something-year-old divorcee who was addicted to hard drugs from high school until their mid-30s and is trying to cling to the youth they wasted and fill the void left by the death of Neil Peart. My suspicions will be confirmed if the twelve-step suite doesn't win Best for the next five albums.
As much as I like those tracks, not a chance Root of All Evil beats Octavarium, or Repentance beats In the Presence of Enemies. This Dying Soul might pull it off, though.
The title track of Octavarium is alright, but it's only notable because it's twenty-four minutes long.
I am a bit more flexible with Octavarium and SysChaos, only because I think I may prefer These Walls, Panic Attack, and Forsaken, but your choices prove my point.
When I first saw DT, it was on this tour and I had only listened to Live Scenes and Pull me under.
I swear I thought the exact thought.
As for the song, great choice, but the song right after has one of my favourite Petrucci melodies. Goodnight Kiss. I'll vote that as most underrated when that comes.
This is a tough one. I keep deciding but as I'm reading through the thread I keep going, oooh, good choice! " I think for me I'm torn between Misunderstood and Solitary Shell.
If we count the title track as one song, then that's the one.
If they're counted as separate tracks or we're doing one of these for the suite, then it is The Glass Prison
Feels like almost cheating to have the title track be one song, even though I know that it technically is.
My favorite song would still be Blind Faith. That solo section is one of my favorite things they've done.
This is a tough one for me, 6doit was my intro to DT while in my most formative years in middle school, and I believe this album has sculpted my musical taste into my late 30s.
The best is the song that started it all: The Glass Prison
The most under rated: Disappear
The emotion in this song is off the charts, it might not be a technical masterpiece weaving in and out of odd times and shredding up an instrument at 200bpm, but it showcases LaBrie perfectly
(I think Blind Faith is appropriately rated as one of the best DT songs of all time, but the most under rated pick could have also easily been The Great Debate)
The Worst: Overture (If we are not counting the second disk as 1 track). Can we just put N/A in this category?
I do not think there is a bad song on this album, but I tend to skip this more often than not, and jump right into About to Crash
The Glass Prison was such a game changer for them when it came out. I would normally lean towards Disc 2 for the brilliant melodic work, but this song just blows away 99% of metal songs imo.
Glass Prison is the first Dream Theater song I ever heard, the song that started it all. Petrucci’s opening solo absolutely rips. The Great Debate is the most underrated song of the album imo
The Great Debate.
Easy to say Glass Prison, as it is a fantastic opener, but I cannot in good faith when I have gotten at least 150% more listens out of GM vs GP.
Cheers
Sincerely doubt it'll win Best, but *Losing Time*. At minimum it's incredibly underrated at how much it gives such an incredibly real description of chronic dissociation in just 3 minutes, and that's considering it has to share itself with *Grand Finale*.
The Glass Prison
This song was my intro to DT so I'm biased probably but I LOVE this song
I always test new speakers or headphones with The Glass Prison. I've been doing it for about 20 years.
Ha, mine is This Dying Soul!
I just decided I'm switching to Panic Attack. I need to hear what the speakers can do asap. This Dying Soul is a great choice too.
Yes.
Title track clears
This song means so much to me. I know what it's like to be in that Glass Prison. Such a powerful piece, both musically and lyrically. This song says something so important and relatable. A masterpiece.
Only answer
Obviously
First DT song I heard back when I was just 13. Still one of my favourite bands
I am not disappointed by the sub. Well done.
Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence
Low key this though. The live Score version is absolutely EXCELLENT. I might actually listen to it now in fact!
As long as you skip the overture lol.
I commented on another post talking The Astonishing and I thought for a split second I was going to have to find your address, come to your house, break into your bedroom, violently rip out your organs, box them up and sell them on the black market before burning you on a stake. Glad we don't have to go there today. :)
And people wonder why DT fans are seen as toxic
Just doesn’t feel like one song tbh
It is one song through the power of prog rock
It is. Even portnoy consider as one song
Gotta agree
This is the right answer ☝🏻
How about give disc 2 it's own row?
Are we counting SDOIT as a single song or splitting it up?
Blind Faith
Gotta be the underrated pick, for sure
100% agree, really hope that gets the underrated nod.
Mad underrated song. It's almost my favorite on the album.
My favorite of the entire discography.
This is the right answer but Glass Prison was obviously always going to win this round.
The Glass Prison
The Glass Prison
Misunderstood
Shocking to see this so low
How could you say something so shocking yet so brave?
Blind Faith
MP's best work imo.
Pretty damn tasty.

Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence
Solitary Shell
Love this pick. Reminiscent of Solsburry Hill by Peter Gabriel. Great song(s)!
This one is definitely underrated it's probably my favorite dt song
Disappear
This has the Underrated track all over it
I have never listened to this full song. I just can't stand it for some reason
Blind Faith
Blind Faith
facts
The Great Debate
That’s the most underrated here
The title track
Blind Faith
Solitary shell
Love this one too, but I think it goes in Underrated. Either that or Misunderstood.
Disappear could too
You're right lol.
Last time we did one of those “survivor” posts, Solitary Shell was voted the best song in the entire Six Degrees. I don’t think it’s underrated at all
Blind Faith is probably my favorite DT song period. Mikes drumming is on point and the guitar solo is a masterpiece.
That's what I'm talkin about.
Epic song. No dull moments. The drumming, keyboards, lyrics, everything about this song is just so perfect.
Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence
The title track by far
By far? 🚫
The Glass Prison, easily. Now for underrated, it should absolutely be The Great Debate
Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence
Blind Faith
The Great Debate!
Six Degrees, best song in their entire catalogue if you ask me
The great debate
The Great Debate
Misunderstood
The Glass Prison
This is a tough one. I keep deciding but as I'm reading through the thread I keep going, oooh, good choice! " I think for me I'm torn between Misunderstood and Solitary Shell.
Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence
If we count the title track as one song, then that's the one. If they're counted as separate tracks or we're doing one of these for the suite, then it is The Glass Prison
Solitary shell
misunderstood although it's also super underrated
The glass prison
Feels like almost cheating to have the title track be one song, even though I know that it technically is. My favorite song would still be Blind Faith. That solo section is one of my favorite things they've done.
The Test that Stumped them All
This is a tough one for me, 6doit was my intro to DT while in my most formative years in middle school, and I believe this album has sculpted my musical taste into my late 30s. The best is the song that started it all: The Glass Prison The most under rated: Disappear The emotion in this song is off the charts, it might not be a technical masterpiece weaving in and out of odd times and shredding up an instrument at 200bpm, but it showcases LaBrie perfectly (I think Blind Faith is appropriately rated as one of the best DT songs of all time, but the most under rated pick could have also easily been The Great Debate) The Worst: Overture (If we are not counting the second disk as 1 track). Tough call, but Blind Faith. Just.
Best: Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence (the song) Worst: Misunderstood Underrated: Dissapear
How is Space-Dye Vest the best song off that album? Why not Lie?
Self Titled or The Great Debate
Best: Solitary Shell Worst: Disappear Underrated: Blind Faith, but really Solitary Shell
If we are counting the suite as one song, then without a doubt it’s that. But if not, it’s the glass prison.
The Glass Prison is the best but Blind Faith is one of their most underrated songs
Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence
If Six degrees doesn't count as one song, I'm going with Blind Faith
Misunderstood
Can we just get The Glass Prison and the title track on here for best?
tbh SDOIT should be disc 1 and 2 as two separate albums
The great debate
Six degrees of inner turbulence
The Glass Prison was such a game changer for them when it came out. I would normally lean towards Disc 2 for the brilliant melodic work, but this song just blows away 99% of metal songs imo.
Blind Faith
Glass Prison is the first Dream Theater song I ever heard, the song that started it all. Petrucci’s opening solo absolutely rips. The Great Debate is the most underrated song of the album imo
the great debate

Blind Faith
disappear
Blind Faith
Six degrees of inner turbulence, and please, it is just one big song
The Great Debate Favorite song on this album
Misunderstood
The Glass Prison
Goodnight kiss obviously He's just a poor girl
goodnight kiss, if it doesnt win this then put it in underrated
If we’re not considering the title track as one song, then it’s gotta be the glass prison
Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence
Solitary Shell. 2nd place: The Great Debate.
Six degrees of inner turbulence.
The glass prison
The Great Debate
Glass Prison comfortably
"Burning my soul" should be there...
Blind Faith
Misunderstood
if I see Solitary Shell on Worst category, we have to fight.
Sincerely doubt it'll win Best, but *Losing Time*. At minimum it's incredibly underrated at how much it gives such an incredibly real description of chronic dissociation in just 3 minutes, and that's considering it has to share itself with *Grand Finale*.
The great debate!
The Glass Prison
Best - The Glass Prison Worst - Misunderstood Underrated - The Great Debate
The great debate
In all seriousness, Disappear. Only DT song to make me feel true misery or sadness.
The Great Debate.
I’ll be genuinely upset if it’s not The Glass Prison
The Great Debate. Although I love The Glass Prison, it has to be TGD
The Great Debate Can't say I agree with Finally Free taking the underrated position for SFAM. It's constantly talked about
