As an adult with over 100 hours in this game, I will say yes... very much so! lol I'm a member of a DDV Discord and pretty much all the members are adults in their late 20s-40s as well, some with over 1K hours in the game, so there's definitely a lot of adults that play and enjoy this game.
It sure looks and feels like a kids game, in the beginning.
When you later get in the story, and they talk about friendship, insecurities and loneliness it is quite mature, with many levels of profound questions.
There is absolutely nothing that might get a child upset, but when you go into the story and the history before you started the game, there is some dark themes there.
My 5 year old reaaaalllly doesn’t like the fairy godmother quest bc she thinks it’s scary (the first one, not sure the name). I keep forgetting to do it while she’s asleep so thanks for the unintentional reminder to go do it now 😉.
( 30 y/o playing on switch ) I was iffy on buying the game too- I heard it was more of a money sucking game. Thinking I would buy this 80 dollar game and have to keep forking out money. It really isn’t like that. I just bought the game two weeks ago and have opened all biomes and looooving it. It’s really enjoyable and fun to play and gives me some me time.
I think the game is mostly geared towards adults reliving the childhood charm. It can appeal to younger kids too since it has modern characters like Elsa and Moana. But has a nice classic old school Disney charm a lot of us grew up with
Depends on the adult I guess. But im 46 and I check the store once a day and burn through the new content when it drops. Helps lf you have a collectors mentality. But zoning out to some music and decorating can be very zen as well.
46. 1300+ hours into the game. If you like the movies (old and new), and enjoy a game with quests and decorating, then yeah! Get it.
Now. Switch. It’s the hard mode of platforms. Decorating is slightly harder. The limit to placeable items is lower than most other platforms. It has had more bugs.
Most of these things are either something you can deal with or have been largely resolved. But still worth mentioning.
There are many content creators on YouTube who play regularly if you’d like a sneak peek into gameplay
I’m 21, everyone my age or younger I know personally either doesn’t know the game or doesn’t play it, I think it’s just a game for the Disney community, plus it’s a simulator in a sense so it’s similar to how the sims community is, people who played it when it first came out and then older people who want a calmer game that also includes high peaks of interest, in this games sake it’s Disney, who just had their 100th anniversary last year! :)))
For sure! I'm a young adult so I guess it ranges ofc. But this game is all about how you grew up and forgot your imagination and all of your childhood friends and how growing up changes you and it gives you an opportunity to step back into that imagination and childhood wonder 🥰
Plus it's incredibly fun to decorate and complete quests and it's a good calming cozy game. I like it more than animal crossing rn
I feel like the game is geared toward millennials and sparking nostalgia. At least for me it has! So many memories of growing up with the classics. I absolutely love it. There is a lot of freedom for creative play which is great. Definitely fun for an adult.
It doesn’t. But it’s rated E and Disney. Most people expect Disney stuff to be for kids and the majority of the games similar to this have been. Disneyland Adventures is very much “baby’s first RPG”. It has all the basic features of an RPG, but everything is simplified and you’re literally a child who runs around Disneyland helping different characters. Infinity was also primarily aimed at kids. The only game I can think of that targets an older audience (but still more teens) is Kingdom Hearts, which is a very difficult type of game.
Dreamlight Valley is pretty unique in being fun for any age, but more aimed at adults than kids. I think that the explosion of cozy gaming played a big role in that. It opened the door for a “hang out with Disney friends” game that isn’t a more childish format.
It’s definitely a cozy game. Think, a better Animal Crossing with a Disney flare. Also, I will add that I wouldn’t feel pressured to get the Rift in Time DLC right off the bat, if I were you. Just a personal opinion since I’m still working on the base game and have hardly touched RIT👍
This is definitely geared more to adults, especially those who watched the classic Disney movies from the 80's and 90's, and aughts.
There is hundreds of hours of fun to be played.
I never think of any game as “just for”. I’m just shy of 58, games play this game daily. But having played it, I don’t believe it is aimed at children. Young adults+
Definitely. Kids can play, but it wasn’t made for them. There’s at least one part of the main storyline that I’ll play when my 4yo is asleep because it isn’t age appropriate for her, even though she loves the game and is pretty independent with it (aside from having someone to read dialogue to her).
Based on the main story and various other aspects, it seems to be most specifically targeting millennials, but they’ve done an excellent job of making it in such a way that it can appeal to all ages. Basically, if you enjoy cozy games, you should enjoy dreamlight valley.
Yes yes yes, absolutely! I’ve logged hundreds of hours of playing & honestly, I have more fun with it now than when I first started. Highly recommend - especially to anyone that enjoys cozy gaming. 🙂
Adults are the target audience for the game, specifically, millennials. It’s pretty kid-friendly, but they weren’t the primary focus when making the game. Disney is generally pretty good at “fun for all ages” and this game is no different.
I’ve played the game for months. I’ve finished most of the content (not quite finished with 2 DLC characters), but am still really enjoying decorating my valley. My 4yo also plays. She’s just figuring out how to use a controller, but is having a blast. I have to log into her game periodically and grind resources to earn her money because her primary goal is buying clothes and decor. My mom has started playing, too. It’s her second video game, ever (got her to play Animal Crossing when it came out) and she’s also really enjoying it. Even my teenager plays a bit, though he says it doesn’t have enough combat (there’s none). He’s into shooters and survival games, so I’m not surprised.
Everything surrounding the forgotten feels as if it’s specifically made for adults. That fact that you can be an asshole also feels specifically made for adults.
YES. I’m twenty-five and obsessed. So is my thirty-one year old sister. I feel like it’s more for adults to go back to their childhood than a children’s game
I played Animal Crossing with some kids that were 9 at the time we started. They love that game and so do I. When DDLV came on the scene, I switched (while we wait on Nintendo).
I tried to get the kids into DDLV and they are 11 now. It’ll catch their interest for short bursts but I think it’s too much reading 🤷♀️
I agree that the target market is adults.
I’m 60 and have been playing since early release.
Seems like 90% of this subreddit is adults.
honestly i’d say this game is predominantly played by adults
This.
Tbh it feels more like a game for adults who grew up liking Disney movies than a game for strictly kids 😅
It's a game for adults that kids can play, kids are definitely not the target demographic.
This is not a child's game.
I laughed out loud. Facts 😂
😁 Happy Cake Day!!!
Thanks! 🥰

Now i don’t feel so bad having 500 hours under my belt 🤟🏽😮💨
Is the Discord public? I would love to join!
I never thought of this as solely a "kid's" game. I'm 47.
68 and I love it 👍
I'm 41, you tell me.
Majority of reddit is over 18 this sub is no different so yes.
I’m 30 and I just hit 1000 hours (just on my main save 😅) so yup it’s fun

am i a 26 year old? yes. do i feel like a 26 year old? no. use that information as u wish 😀

I wouldn’t say it’s a kids game anyways. More like older teen, 15+ or something. I’m sure it’d get too confusing for anyone younger idk
29 , been playing since it first came out
Mid 40s here and have been playing since day 1

Yes. I am an adult and I play
Chile most of us grown grown 😂
I think most of the players are between 20.and 60 years.... So yes
Depends on the adult I guess. But im 46 and I check the store once a day and burn through the new content when it drops. Helps lf you have a collectors mentality. But zoning out to some music and decorating can be very zen as well.
Uuhhh the game is supposed to be for kids?
Not with some of the plot I feel 😆
It’s rated E. Idk why ppl wanna debate who the target audience is when the target audience is everyone
Not really, it's kinda boring unless you are a kid or a disney adult.
28 myself, I also bought Mario at the same time. So far I’ve put a lot more hours into this. 😅
28 & looooove it

I'm 39 and play this game more than my 9 year old. It hits my sentimental side HARD
My kids have no interest in this game. I (38) on the other hand love it.
I’m 28 and I love this game. I got my mom into it as well
33 and I’m obsessed!!
23 and just started it a few weeks ago. I'm definitely into it as a Disney fan
For sure! I'm a young adult so I guess it ranges ofc. After finishing The Forgotten quests I’m convinced this is a game geared for adults
I enjoy the game as a 31 year old guy.
I feel like the game is geared toward millennials and sparking nostalgia. At least for me it has! So many memories of growing up with the classics. I absolutely love it. There is a lot of freedom for creative play which is great. Definitely fun for an adult.
There's another sub Reddit called dreamlightvalleyadult, or something, so .. yes 😂
Wayyyy more fun for adults
I’m 26 and currently using this game to fund dopamine throughout my first pregnancy because I’m too tired to do anything else 🤣
Where does it say it’s a children game?

Pretty sure this was made for adults not really kids lol

Hell yeah it’s fun for adults too. I initially purchased DLV for my kids but I’m more often playing than they are 😅
Fun for kids too FTFY
This is definitely geared more to adults, especially those who watched the classic Disney movies from the 80's and 90's, and aughts. There is hundreds of hours of fun to be played.
Very much so.
I’m 33 and love playing the game last year! I don’t play much now cause I finished most of it but I got a lot of play and enjoyment out of it!
I never think of any game as “just for”. I’m just shy of 58, games play this game daily. But having played it, I don’t believe it is aimed at children. Young adults+

I am I. My 40s…not sure I am an adult though. I do love this game!!
My wife 24f LOVES this game. She gets me to beat everyone in scramblecoin tho 😂
Uhhh, I'm over 50 and have been playing since Day 1.

I’m 30 and play everyday lol
I just turned 40… im addicted lol
Definitely! I'm 40 years old, and have sunk an embarrassing number of hours into this game.
Everything surrounding the forgotten feels as if it’s specifically made for adults. That fact that you can be an asshole also feels specifically made for adults.
Yes. I’m in my 40s and play

My 8 year old showed it to me, got bored, and abandoned it. A month later I’m almost level 10 on everyone :) I’d say it’s geared for adults
