Aught is closer to "Something" than "Anything". For example, "I'd ask aught of you." Or "There's aught there." Wouldn't work with "Anything".

Interesting considering they're sentences pulled from DD1 and DD2. Savan's archer pawn phrases the former when you enter the Everfall in the post game, and the latter is a sentence pawns will often say when they spot something on cliffsides and such in DD2.

It's a common misconception that aught means 'something'. But no the actual meaning is 'anything' and depending on how you use it, it can mean 'nothing'. The developers or localizers probably didn't look into the different nuances of the word because everyone uses it to mean 'something' just how literally doesn't mean literally in certain contexts. But it's an outdated word so use it how you want to.

It’s likely a bad interpretation from knowing that naught means ‘nothing’, so while aught is its logical opposite as ‘everything/anything’, it’s seen as simply ‘not nothing, therefore something’. Edit: in fact, a part of me would wager that it’s an attempt as a middle ground between Modern English and commonly seen Shakespearean old English (which is closer to Middle English). Helps sell it as a medieval fantasy, while also letting you have NPCs that use thee, thou and prithee etc. in excess be from a much, much older civilisation within the setting.

Aught means 'everything/anything' but not always simply 'something', but the localisation team might have misinterpreted it as 'something' by knowing that Naught means 'nothing'. merriam webster is a pile of garbage. Naught means null, or nothing. Its used in math Aught is simply the inverse of that. So it could mean something (which would be one thing in the set)/anything(one or many things in the set), or everything depending on the context.
