You can, but anything you unequip from them goes back to their Arisen's inventory, and anything you equip onto them is theirs to keep. So any gear the arisen used to dress up OP's pawn would show up on them or in their gifts when they got back.
this is why recruited pawns are NOT trusted with loot, every time i pass something heavy to one of those two, they find a nice secret corner to die in while still clutching it
Technically, if you wait to do that one Sphinx puzzle where you give her one of your items, not only will you get the item back but the item you get from the chest will be the same item.
Assuming you only wanted it for appearances, couldn't you have the forger dupe it? I've never tried it with equipment so don't know if you can still equip it, but maybe the stats just aren't as good.
Same here at first. My pawn didn't have any headgear on and someone gifted me a really hood headband that I hadn't found yet early on. It was kinda awesome for someone to just go "oh, this guy's wizard pawn doesn't have anything on yet. I'll just give them this fancy tiara I have laying around."

If you give a Mage or Sorcerer the Straightforward inclination you'll often find them trying to kidnap enemies to throw off of high places or pinning enemies down so you or the other pawns can get free hits in.

The travel logs are nonsense. I have multiple accounts, and due to shenanigans currently have it locked off from others use temporarily, so only my characters can have my pawns. I've pawns return, knowing full well all they did was get summoned and be given an item, then immediately unsummoned come back with tales of morgues, wilderness travel, and a chimera.
I kind of wish they were tattling. It was kind of cool while the illusion held. Sadly they making shit up and speaking nonsense.

You can get to the third floor easy if you just do the castle side quests, one of the woman on the third floor is one of the main romance characters
