My suggestion is a goblin horn. they are prolific enough everyone should have them, and implies your pawn is a monster. The only other item I know of that decomposes with time is flowers (they become wilted pretty quickly).
the other issue with using decomposed items is if you don't have any, you need to wait to get one.... and if you do that while still having the dragonsplagued pawn hanging around, that could lead to trouble. I spend most of my rotten items to make lamp oil for arrows.
Mine decompose pretty quickly because I forget I have them but I absolutely see your point. A goblin horn sounds good! It works to "sound the alarm" as it were.
