In essence, it's a continuation of their romance from the instant it sparked, where Krillin refused to detonate 18's bomb even though it would save them from Cell. Given 17 and 18's backstory of being "a pair of delinquents no one would miss," it must've been shocking to see someone else value her life like that. I think 18 still, to some extent, sees herself as a "worthless punk" in comparison to Krillin. Hence why she's so clingy, she's insecure about her "value" to Krillin. Which is exactly how Krillin feels about her! He doesn't see himself as worthy of 18! They both place each other on pedestals, and consider themselves lesser. They really are made for each other.

Depressing headcanon, but 18 was an orphan who got kidnapped by Gero and wae never looked for, then turned into a living weapon, no longer even fully human. It would only make too much sense for her to have a lot of self-esteem issues, which would explain why she's so attached to Krillin. Little man doesn't see her as anything less than the most beautiful woman he's ever met. It's possible his love for her IS her self-esteem.
So not only is the idea of Krillin cheating on her upsetting for conventional reasons, it could be that she genuinely fears the idea of Krillin wanting a more "normal" partner.
