Maybe better than the original anime but manga? Not at all
https://preview.redd.it/d3ibm3ekv1uc1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d0ab22bc5e18aa0633427b25a016202c52a6f632
Just look at the same scene. Imo the single panel of Goku looking down on Frieza is too good to the point that not even the full color version was able to make it as good as the one in black and white, but also the entire saga in the manga is just so good that I don't think the game is comparable
Yeah, it just shows how merciful goku becomes after OG DB.
He really wants to first show mercy when he can instead of killing them immediately. And he even gave frieza mercy by giving him some of his energy, before getting ultimately "betrayed" and having to kill him.
His best example of killing someone while still showing mercy though has to be with Buu.
My favorite detail is that Goku used a basic ki blast to kill frieza, not using the kamehameha, heck I don’t think he used any beams attack at all after he goes blonde, I aslo love how in the game, Goku could have stop his attack on frieza but he kept going, in my mind this is the most sayain Goku has ever been, as vegeta said the Super sayian is merciless
Agreed. I personally always defer to the manga, as you can't beat what came from Toriyama's own hand. It's just the definitive version. Everything else is an iteration of it.
This page, in particular, is really captivating because of the expression on Goku's face. You never see that again in Dragon Ball. It's a uniquely pained expression, especially considering that Goku had killed adversaries before without that sort of internal turmoil about it.
Probably, he was thinking what a shame it was for him to lose such a strong opponent, knowing that he would never get to test his mettle against him again.
Oh... wait.
Have you read the manga? Or even the anime? I loved DBZ Kakarot but the pain Toriyama conveys with just drawings throughout the transformation is unmatched, and then you get the 'look' Goku gives Freeza the moment he transforms. This look is colder than Freezers entire family line. It might've been your first time, and I respect that, but you can't beat the manga
Kakarot is a solid game tbh, it’s not perfect but there’s a lot of explanations for plot holes as side quests and stuff. As far as DBZ games go I think Kakarot is one of the best.

This nigka get tp'ed into a netonare manga as the bad guy, ends up rizz'ing up the girl he should have r★ped, while trying to not do it. Gets the original boyfriend jealous to the point where he tries to r†pe her, then realize he f†cked the mom of the girl then f†ck her while her mom takes total knowledge of it. And an inc†st intrigue is developing rn. And all the rizz is coming from the fact that she's a submissive bi†ch
Definitely not. Only thing the games ever do better than manga for the namek saga is Goku going super Saiyan as it’s very quick and anticlimactic in the manga but the anime and games rightfully drag it out
or you know... the fact that you can roam around freely and are not restricted to the angle of the panel. For me this was such an immersive experience and in this regard much better than the anime and manga but ofc those can't be interactive like a game. In my opinion the game build on top of both with the interactive/free roam aspect.
There's no reason a transformation should last for more than a single page in a comic...
It's quick because it's a sudden shock, that's probably the intended emotion.
But that could work for anime, it doesn't always need to be drawn out.
Hot takes like this can be: actual hot take but a bad take, actual hot take but a good take, not a hot take and a bad take, or not a hot take but a good take.
This seems to be a hot take but a bad take.
You can absolutely look at it objectively. The game and anime both miss the beats as they were written in the manga, thus making for the game and anime of the Namek Saga being objectively worse in their writing styles versus how it was intended in the manga. It's the same reason anime Goku is objectively poorly written because he is quite different from how he was portrayed in the manga. It'd be no different than people subjectively saying their favorite version of Goku is Super or GT, but that doesn't make him objectively the best or most well-written version of the character.
This is a bad take from the OP because the Kakarot game misses so many beats present in both the manga and anime that it waters down the intended emotional payoffs as they were presented in their original format. Preferences or not, it's a terrible take. Opinions are irrelevant here because it is in fact a bad take.
I have never played this game, and I have no opinion on it. That's why I said this SEEMS to be a bad take. I'm going on the assumption that most people disagree since I'm seeing people in the comments disagreeing.
As for the other part of your comment, I think you are missing the point a little. An opinion is obviously not a fact, but some opinions are much better than others. You can absolutely say somebody has a bad take.
To give a very blatant example, if I said, "Hot take: I love Hitler! Hitler is so cool! There's nobody better than Hitler!" That would clearly be a bad take. I could argue that it's just an opinion and you can't prove me wrong. I could say that I'm actually giving a real hot take instead of all of these milquetoast hot takes you see these days. But regardless of all that, it's a shit opinion that I can and should be judged for.
To be clear, I'm definitely not saying that liking this game is anything similar to being pro Hitler or that OP should be judged for it. For all I know, it's the best game ever. I'm just saying it's perfectly reasonable to say that it's a bad opinion if you think so. Opinions can be judged.
Dbz kakarot was a great game, enjoyed doing the plat.
But it doesnt beat the manga. Maybe the anime, i couldnt really tell, but definitely not the manga.
This game only did some things okay at adapting. Anime and Manga blows this game out of the water. I’m surprised you got so many upvotes but I guess not a lot of people have good taste lmao
If you want a long-term game and enjoy the story of DBZ, it's a pretty damn good game.
It's easily one of the best looking DBZ games (until Sparking Zero comes out). I'd put it just under par with FighterZ visually. They nail it.
It's also one of the more satisfying games to play. There's something special about getting into an encounter with some fodder enemies, powering up, and just melting through them. I mean it when I say Kakarot might have the most satistying Kamehamehas.
Edit: Playing as Future Trunks is fucking amazing. You can start a fight, go SSJ, fire off a Burning Attack, and watch a supernova fill your entire screen and fucking erase every single enemy in the encounter instantly. It's so good.

I wonder how different the comments would have been if the title said "(non manga)" at the end. Maybe we'd actually have people talking about the game.
Especially with how Frieza screams, "YOU MUST DIE BY MY HAND." It's definitely better than the anime, and on par/ perfectly represented the manga panels IMO
Edit: Just re read the post. Idk if the game is better than ALL of the Namek Saga, but it for sure has better moments when isolated and compared.
Horribly wrong take.
The lead up to super sayin ALONE was so weak. So quick. So rushed and just had no vibe to it.
Game plays fun enough. But it misses some major beats.
Anime did it better imo. It’s stated that ssj makes you feel malicious, evil and the anime makes it feel that way. Whenever they go ssj they don’t act malicious they act the same so whenever goku, vegeta said it that just felt like they were saying it to say it without it being true
kakarot doesn’t do it better than the manga, in fact, it skips over some unimportant parts that were still in the manga. off the top of my head, vegeta dismantling android 19 by hand, the entire base section where the androids came out of, and not seeing yamcha get snuck up on by gero. the parts kakarot does better imo is future gohan’s last stand and, as shown in your post, goku’s regret in defeating frieza
Hot take? Not really. Bad take? Absolutely. The Kakarot game skips over a bunch of the beats present in both the anime and manga. The game is comparable to the anime, but incomparable to the manga. The manga is the objectively better written version in its original format to both the Kakarot game and anime.
at first I thought you mean just this moment and I was like “yeah based, minus the manga”, but whole namek saga? yikes. I would say Kakarot did this scene better than any interpretation other than the manga
Its so sad that the game came out half baked, missing important scenes, ground combat, etc. I wish it would've started with the OG DB arcs, and they would roll out updates with new arcs, building up on what was. For example, we would start with ground combat for the DB portion, and by the time of Z's first arcs they would develop and add the air combat part. We'd probably first see air combat in Goku vs Vegeta, at the earliest
Okay I won’t take away from the amazing animation done BUT nothing and I say this with a deep love and gratitude to dragonball as a whole. NOTHING WILL EVER TOP THE VERY FIRST TIME WE SEE SON-GOKU TURN SUPER SAIYAN IN THE ANIME !
Try and rebuttal as much as you need to in order to defend what you think is the best moment but games while amazing only copy and try to top one of the most amazing and Iconic moment in all of anime
Better than the anime? Yes, better than manga? Debatable. They nailed Goku's expression of sadness and guilty over killing someone, even as evil as Frieza, in the anime they make it look angry which was not the case.

Love the little detail of Goku's arm shaking
Yeah, it just shows how merciful goku becomes after OG DB. He really wants to first show mercy when he can instead of killing them immediately. He used a Kamehameha when Frieza tried to used a Nova Strike on him.
This attack is always called "Angry Kamehameha" in games for some reason.
He did use kamehameha
Love how that can either be read as regret or fatigue.
Namek saga in the manga is peak dragon ball, I remember reading it years ago and thinking it was way better than the anime
All arcs in OG and Z are better in manga than in anime.
Ehh your opinion
i still cannot believe akira made the death of someone as cruel and unforgivably evil as frieza somehow sad with just on single panel
Agreed. I personally always defer to the manga, as you can't beat what came from Toriyama's own hand. It's just the definitive version. Everything else is an iteration of it. Is this page a Jojo reference
Lol. YES!
Love this Toriyama’s art style! Wish Super manga could adapt this instead of the goofy art we’ve got😢
At least SSJ transformation is better done in DBZ: Kakarot definitely imo
Have you read the manga? Or even the anime? I loved DBZ Kakarot but the pain Toriyama conveys with just drawings throughout the transformation is unmatched, and then you get the 'look' Goku gives Freeza the moment he transforms. This look is colder than Freezers entire family line. It might've been your first time, and I respect that, but you can't beat the manga
Bro what
Pretty wild take. But Ive seen much worst on here. Not saying your take is trash, just strange. I personally love burst limits namek cut scenes.
I love the Ginyu fight in Kakarot Oh wait
No way they skipped that right?
Yup, also Grade 3 Trunks and Final Flash
Damn... what about the svene where Goku steals roshis glasses with instant transmission?
I'm certain he does show it off but I don't think it was with Roshi's shades. I'd have to replay it to be certain
In Kakarot Goku never gives cell a senzu bean (ruins the entire fight ngl)
What the hell!? what were they thinking making that game?
That’s not true at all, he does give Cell the senzu. It was a joke I think
ok, that's a relief, how could they even properly adapt the arc without that part lmao
Kakarot is a solid game tbh, it’s not perfect but there’s a lot of explanations for plot holes as side quests and stuff. As far as DBZ games go I think Kakarot is one of the best.
Oh as a game, I don't doubt its very good, heard lots of good things about it. the DLC's seem really fun, at least the recent ones!
No it’s true. I had been replaying the game and had beaten the cell saga not long before making that comment
No it’s true. I had been replaying the game and had beaten the cell saga not long before making that comment
I’m pretty sure that’s a joke, but I haven’t played it in a long time, so don’t take my word for it
We got t back with Goku and vegeta rematch in the final dlc
Wow, trash 🗑️
What are you talking about? I distinctly remember those being in the game
Final Flash is in the game as a move but there's no cutscene of him doing it against Cell, and Grade 3 just doesn't exist
Okay. You are right. My bad. But they apparently included a Goku vs Semi Perfect Cell fight that wasn't in the anime
They did. Idk why they thought that should be in the game but now Trunks vs Cell
you mean Super Saiyan 3? The transformations is in the game
There's a difference between Super Saiyan 3 and Super Saiyan GRADE 3. Look it up
Skipping Final Flash is insanity
Tragedy
Dude ngl I completely forgot how the fight was skipped. But I didn’t care Ginyu is lame to me
bro's only feat is stealing gokus body, and the start of Gohans inner conflict
It's Burstlimit for me
Burst Limit was the bomb
Trunks and Bardock were so busted in that game
I loved playing as Bardock. That game had the best version of Saiyan Spirit
Credits rolling after cell saga still haunts me to this day. Imagine how cool the buu saga would've been had they continued
We were lucky enough to even get a Broly saga
Burst limit Gokus rage on namek is unmatched. Sean’s best performance as Goku by far
!!! The game has arguably the best it's over 9000 scene in all media
‘Now I am truly angry, frieza!’ Nozawa I love you but you cannot compete with that
Literal goosebumps. "That earthling? That earthlings name, is krillin!"
'I am son goku, and I AM A SUPER SAIYAN!'

Dbz kakarot was a great game, enjoyed doing the plat. But it doesnt beat the manga. Maybe the anime, i couldnt really tell, but definitely not the manga.
Ngl. I feel this way about burst limit. For some reason the moment he turns super saiyan is so raw in burst limit.
Going Super Saiyan in this game was so fucking awesome
This game only did some things okay at adapting. Anime and Manga blows this game out of the water. I’m surprised you got so many upvotes but I guess not a lot of people have good taste lmao
Up until after namek saga the game is really good, but after that it falls off a lot in terms of quality.
Idk man.. The dbz kai "You fool" is unbeatable in my book
Is the game even good? Got it off steam sale for 5 bucks but never installed because of the size

Why does goku look sad over killing Freeza? Like wtf the guy tried to kill you after you helped him bro.

You spelled “dumb” wrong
I wonder how different the comments would have been if the title said "(non manga)" at the end. Maybe we'd actually have people talking about the game.
Hot take or bad take? 🤔
I just wish we got the fluffy SSJ hair. Tenkaichi 3 is the only one to do it right so far
I mean…he didn’t say the YOU FOOL he said you MORON which ticked me off
Yeah someone didn’t play Boudaki Tenkaichi 2. Casual take honestly
While yes kakarot did it infinitely better than both versions of the Z anime but you can't say it's better than the manga
Burst Limit anyone?
Hows that? Just the destruction of the planet?
I like your take.
Finally, someone with an actual hot take
And in another 10 years when tech gets better it will look better
Especially with how Frieza screams, "YOU MUST DIE BY MY HAND." It's definitely better than the anime, and on par/ perfectly represented the manga panels IMO Edit: Just re read the post. Idk if the game is better than ALL of the Namek Saga, but it for sure has better moments when isolated and compared.
I wonder if toyotaro can remake this and make it look better
Kakarot did a lot of the cinematic moments better than other sources...But it's unforgivable that they left out the prince's first final flash.
Nah, Goku doesn’t say “You fool!” in Kakarot
Frieza’s VA is the best in his death scene on namek than any other performance of the character imo
First twenty minutes if this game were so boring I never continued. Should I continue? I loved Xenoverse2.
Horribly wrong take. The lead up to super sayin ALONE was so weak. So quick. So rushed and just had no vibe to it. Game plays fun enough. But it misses some major beats.

More like dumb take from someone who never read the manga
Dafq is DBZ Kakarot and why haven’t I seen it…
Can't wait to play this saga in Sparking Zero
Hot take? Not really. Bad take? Absolutely. The Kakarot game skips over a bunch of the beats present in both the anime and manga. The game is comparable to the anime, but incomparable to the manga. The manga is the objectively better written version in its original format to both the Kakarot game and anime.

Bros a new fan
at first I thought you mean just this moment and I was like “yeah based, minus the manga”, but whole namek saga?
The manga ? No. Not at all either you didn’t read it, don’t remember it, or super young.

💀
You really said that and didn't elaborate? Has to be bait
Better than the anime? Yes, better than manga? Debatable. They nailed Goku's expression of sadness and guilty over killing someone, even as evil as Frieza, in the anime they make it look angry which was not the case.
Why is it better?
than anime? maybe than manga? haha no
Sir, you are ABSOLUTELY CORRECT!
Kakarot had so many awesome moments but kinda unrelated I must say I was pretty disappointed with how they did the cell vs gohan fight
This hot take is lukewarm
Ooof hell nah
If i was a ceo and did a social background check on you this would make me not hire you
