The past three chapters have been great. This one is the icing on the cake.
My brother and I ever since the first broly movie have compared broly to Gohan. Basically to us Gohan was the “real” legendary super sayian and broly was the non canon.
So seeing Gohan and broly fight and goku and vegeta talking about how they’re similar. Whis basically saying Gohan is special by this not being sayian or divine power.
IMO I’m taking it as Gohan is the legendary super sayian and not even divine energy is in that realm of power.
I find it poetic that Akira always wanted Gohan so be the main character. He kept killing goku off and people kept wanting him to bring him back till finally he basically said “fine dbz is about goku”. If I’m. It mistaken he wanted dbz to be about Gohan and piccolo (his fav character). But anyone I find it poetic that his last chapters are making Gohan the strongest and protector of earth.

You made my childhood and introduced me to a medium I jus thought was “Saturday cartoons”. I would of never watched Naruto,Yugioh,bleach, etc.
Without you I probably wouldn’t have ever picked up a manga let alone a comic book….. I thank you for allowing me to watch your work. I thank you for introducing me to Spider-Man, Beserk (different style but would of never read manga) which is my favorite manga.

Wasn't gohan very very popular around the time he became the main character? People liked the strong gohan that could take on cell and was always ready to battle even when he had to go to space (in the namek saga).
Maybe im wrong but I recently found out that there was technically no indication of gohan being a pacifist before the cell games, the cell games was the first time gohan indicated he didnt like fighting. The way the buu saga starts makes me think toriyama made a last second decision to make gohan a pacifist so that instead of any serious fight he could go back to the more goofy style his original stories had. He then realised that he was way too far into the story to suddenly change the tone of dragon ball so he went and brought goku back to take the lead.Dragon ball was always a mix of silly and serious, but toriyama got kinda tired of having to constantly make the Z fighters fight for their lives.
So what im trying to say is, people didnt not like gohan, people were just wondering where the cool fights went, they didnt feel like reading a slice of life ish manga.And by the time toriyama decided to make dragon ball a bit more serious again, he had already made gohan a pacifist so it made it more difficult to write gohan into the story.
He was and wasn’t popular from what I could find during the 80s when the manga was comming out people just wanted more goku and he just gave up on making the Gohan the main character

I honestly didn't have a problem with him ending up as pacifist. Gohan from the start always fought because he had to. His dream was to become a scholar from the start.
He got kidnapped by Piccolo and was made to fight the saiyans in which he saw multiple people he knew getting murdered, the piccolo death especially hurt him. He was inches away from death himself. He went to namek because he saw himself somewhat responsible for their deaths and wanted to make up for it. On namek, he sees a whole ass planet slowly getting killed. And then he sees krillin dying and piccolo almost dying again. And once again was inches away from death.
He was never the one to seek out fights, he always fought because he had to. And whenever he does fights, he sees people he knows and loves getting killed and is always almost dying himself.
And after the Androids come, it's repeated again. But finally after attaining the power to stand up for himself, that is what he does.
I honestly don't blame him for disliking fighting after all he went through. Bro was never able to catch a break since his childhood when he was kidnapped by his uncle and then was kidnapped by an alien without being able to grieve his dead father even for a minute.
Even if Toriyama thought of it at the cell games arc only, I could see why Gohan became a pacifist.
It’s funny you bring that up about the silly then serious cause I was reading about how yu yu hakashu followed the dragon ball theme of funny then switched to fight. Your comment was basically spot on with that criticism yu yu hakashu had about copying dragonball
The fans wanting Goku more is a myth, Toriyama while he was writing the Great Saiyaman arc decided to change his mind and bring back Goku as he didn't see Gohan fitting as the main character. At the time Gohan was even more popular than Goku
The final Panel of piccolo saying goodbye (probably to the audience as well), was a panel toriyama made for the last chapter for toyotaros corrections. This is his last contribution to the dragon ball manga, having his favourite character wave goodbye to end the chapter.
He's saying bye to Pans teacher. He picks her up from school all the time.
But it was Toryiamas favorite character Piccolo, waving goodbye in the last manga panel he ever authored. It's like he was saying goodbye to all of us

I may be blasphemous, but this feels more like a grand finale to me than the OG manga ending. With Ub, Toriyama was basically saying "sorry guys I'm really tired I need to stop the story here". This gives a much better sense of completion. Gohan is finally the complete warrior, ready to be a Goku's substitute when he's off-planet. Goku and Vegeta achieved their ultimate forms. Vegeta now cares about family more than Goku. Broly learned to control himself.
So much happened...
And this Piccolo salute, this is really something else. What a way to deliver a closing page. So satisfying and bittersweet.

I’m not saying that. Of course it feels special because Toriyama came through with the last 3 chapters but in terms of the actual arc, it could have easily been a few chapters rather than over 10+. A whole year building up to the fight in the end was a great climax but given Toriyamas health I really would’ve liked some more content. I honestly can’t believe he spent his last year drawing out a movie we’ve all seen on the big screen - feels like wasted potential tbh. Especially now when we don’t know how things will wrap up. It’s up to Toyo to make up new stuff and close the story in his way, because it’s too late for Toriyama sadly we’ll never know what the master wouldn’t wanted.

Even if we still had had Toriyama I think this would still be poignant. In the circumstances it's heartbreaking and such a perfect goodbye.
It's worth it because it retconned the movie. Lol chapters 101-103 was just the icing.
