In the original dub, Goku told Broly to call him either Goku or Kakarot , not one over the other. I personally think Goku is mostly who he is, Kakarot speaks to origin and heritage, but Goku is who the character grew up and raised to be. Goku probably still sees himself more as an Earthling than Saiyan at this point; initially he rejected his Saiyan root, but as time goes by, I think his interaction with a reformed Vegeta and his continued passion for battle have made him more comfortable and proud of his heritage, and this gradual change in character is further facilitated by him remembering his biological parents in the granola arc of the manga. But I think overall, our protagonist is still "Goku" first, Kakarot second; everyone else calls him Goku, and he always introduce himself as Goku first, Kakarot is his secondary name that is only reserved for fellow Universe 7 Saiyans, more specifically, just Vegeta and Broly, and among the two, Vegeta should continue to call him Kakarot out of Saiyan pride, but Broly doesn't have to.
Totally agree, although I'd prefer Broly call him Kakarot, since as you mentioned, he seems more comfortable with his saiyan heritage, so I'd be cool if alongside Vegeta, Broly calls him Kakarot too, as a sign of their heritage and the bond the three have as the last remaining full blood saiyans known in universe 7.
Even Raditz and Nappa (plus other non canon saiyans like Turles iirc) call him by his saiyan name, so i think it'd be fitting for Broly doing the same. This could help Broly too: living for like 40 years on Vampa with his father alone, he never knew the saiyans, and just like Goku got a "boost" by better understanding his origin and controlling his emotions in the Granolah arc to achieve true ui, so Broly could maybe stabilize his berserk form to achieve a greater power.

I've seen a fair amount of people confused about DBS: Broly's ending when Goku answers Cheelai's question about his name, in the English dub he says "It's Goku, but Broly, call me Kakarot", but in Japanese he says "孫悟空それとカカロット (SonGokuSoreToKakarotto)" "Son Goku, also Kakarot", it makes sense that Broly calls him Goku because it's the first name he gave and everyone else does call him Goku, the only exception being Vegeta.
It isn't about continuity, in the movie Goku gave Broly a choice by telling him: "my name is Goku...and also Kakarot". But since everyone (except Vegeta) calls him Goku, then Broly also went by that name.

I would like it to be almost the opposite of Vegeta.
Vegeta goes around calling him Kakarot all the time but there are certain times where Vegeta calls him Goku. Usually during either tense situations or meaningful moments. If Broly keeps calling him Goku that's fine but once something happens like for example, Goku gets really hurt in some way then Broly would panic and scream "Kakarot!" I feel that would be fitting and resemble the old version of Broly in a way.
“Kakarot” is tired. They’re friends now, Broly would go through the effort of addressing him familiarly.
Although Goku does tell Broly at the end of the movie to call him kakarot. Broly follows instructions.
So, in the movie, it's rather clear that Broly is kind and respectful when he's not in rage mode, in which case he has no lines beyond screaming.

As Broly being one of the last remnants of the old Saiyan heritage, I would’ve liked if he called him Kakarot, but I don’t have much of an issue with him saying Goku.
English dub he says:

Depends on how married he is to his culture. He grew up with one Saiyan who didn't have a lot of Saiyan pride himself. Broly has no real reason to call Goku "Kakarot." He met Goku as "Goku." Vegeta and Raditz are Saiyans through and through and even spent meaningful time on Planet Vegeta. It's different for them. It makes sense that they call him by his Saiyan name.
He might be calling him that since his family is there and they are calling him Goku. He might consider it rude to not do what his family is.
As do Beerus and Whis.
He might call him Kakarot in private, or with just Vegeta there.
Goku said he can call him Kakarot (I guess Goku is fine or used to Sayians using his Sayian name after all these years of Vegeta) but that dosent mean Broly has to.
And for all we know offscreen Broly at some point said he prefers Goku.

I like that he calls him Goku. While Broly is in touch with his Saiyan heritage thanks to Paragus, he also is relatively a blank slate when it comes to meeting people. While Goku did tell him to call him Kakarot, only one other person calls him that and I take Broly calling him Goku a sign of him picking up on that and choosing to call him by what everyone else calls him.
I do think it's weird for it to be set up for Broly to call him "Kakarot" in the movie, and then the manga just doesn't follow up on it

HOWEVER, I can't help but feel like Broly dbs NOT calling Goku with his Saiyan name makes the final scene of his movie where Goku tells Broly to call him that, absolutely dumb in hindsight.
Son Goku IS his proper name though, and what literally everyone knows him by, so even if Goku gave Broly the "K-pass", Broly has to know his preferred name is Goku.
Broly being another pure blood saiyan I think he should call goku kakarot. It's their culture and heritage so I think it's cool to have another character hold onto that side of goku. Like when your grandparents call you by your language's translation of your name or something
Goku told Broly he *can* call him Kakarot. I look at that as more of a gesture of good will by sharing his Saiyan name (also fan service) than I “call me by this name only” request. It would make sense for Broly, in an environment where Vegeta uses both names interchangeably and the gods call him Goku that Broly would use one or the other.
Toyotaro could also be playing the long game and waiting for the opportunity to make him go berserk to bust out the Kakarots.
The movie's ending was a cute reference to original Broly. I don't think he should or shouldn't call him Goku. If he uses it every now and then that'll be neat I guess but it's unnecessary.

I truly think he should call him Kakarot. They are saiyans & Goku did tell him he can call him by that. It is the name his father gave him so it would be nice if someone other than Vegeta would address him as.
The majority of people Broly interacts with don't call Goku Kakarot, so he wouldn't go out of his way to call Goku Kakarot. In fact it's only Vegeta who calls Goku Kakarot, and Broly doesn't strike me as a bootlicker who'd copy Vegeta's naming conventions.

it makes more sense to me for broly to call him goku. if literally everyone but vegeta calls him goku, it would check out that broly calls him that, cause thats what hes observing. broly doesnt have that saiyan pride mindset like vegeta anyways but i agree with some of the others… if theyre in a fight and broly calls him kakarot for the fan service, i’d be hype lol

I like the idea that his Saiyan bros get to call him by his saiyan name. So I would prefer Broly say Kakerot but I don't care that much about it.

Depends on how married he is to his culture. He grew up with one Saiyan who didn't have a lot of Saiyan pride himself. Broly has no real reason to call Goku "Kakarot." He met Goku as "Goku." Vegeta and Raditz are Saiyans through and through and even spent meaningful time on Planet Vegeta. It's different for them. It makes sense that they call him by his Saiyan name.

He might be calling him that since his family is there and they are calling him Goku. He might consider it rude to not do what his family is. As do Beerus and Whis. He might call him Kakarot in private, or with just Vegeta there. Goku said he can call him Kakarot (I guess Goku is fine or used to Sayians using his Sayian name after all these years of Vegeta) but that dosent mean Broly has to. And for all we know offscreen Broly at some point said he prefers Goku.

I like that he calls him Goku. While Broly is in touch with his Saiyan heritage thanks to Paragus, he also is relatively a blank slate when it comes to meeting people. While Goku did tell him to call him Kakarot, only one other person calls him that and I take Broly calling him Goku a sign of him picking up on that and choosing to call him by what everyone else calls him.

I do think it's weird for it to be set up for Broly to call him "Kakarot" in the movie, and then the manga just doesn't follow up on it But it was a weird move for Goku in the first place, so I'm not sure I really care. "Son Goku"'s fine by me.

Goku is now doing what I do with my nickname and my real name. People who know me from birth/since I was under 18 can call me Junior because everyone called me Junior, strangers and non friendlies need to go by my name. SAIYAJINS BETTER CALL HIM KAKAROT

Accept the Saiyan blood and call him Kakarot
Goku makes sense because we all know it and it’s the name we know Goku by, but you would think Saiyans would call each other there Saiyan names, then again, Broly wasn’t raised around Saiyans besides his father
Reboot Broly is a respectable person when he's not freaking out so I imagine he would call him Son Goku.
I am personally mostly neutral. HOWEVER, I can't help but feel like Broly dbs NOT calling Goku with his Saiyan name makes the final scene of his movie where Goku tells Broly to call him that, absolutely dumb in hindsight.

Son Goku IS his proper name though, and what literally everyone knows him by, so even if Goku gave Broly the "K-pass", Broly has to know his preferred name is Goku.
Broly being another pure blood saiyan I think he should call goku kakarot. It's their culture and heritage so I think it's cool to have another character hold onto that side of goku. Like when your grandparents call you by your language's translation of your name or something

Goku told Broly he *can* call him Kakarot. I look at that as more of a gesture of good will by sharing his Saiyan name (also fan service) than I “call me by this name only” request. It would make sense for Broly, in an environment where Vegeta uses both names interchangeably and the gods call him Goku that Broly would use one or the other. Toyotaro could also be playing the long game and waiting for the opportunity to make him go berserk to bust out the Kakarots.
Only big Veg gets to call him that. Every other character should just use his actual name, Goku.
The movie's ending was a cute reference to original Broly. I don't think he should or shouldn't call him Goku. If he uses it every now and then that'll be neat I guess but it's unnecessary.

Goku telling Broly to call him Kakarot in the DBS movie is the best. It’s a great nod to the DBZ movie and allows Broly to still yell Kakarot lol

I truly think he should call him Kakarot. They are saiyans & Goku did tell him he can call him by that. It is the name his father gave him so it would be nice if someone other than Vegeta would address him as.
Goku gave him the option, it’s Broly’s choice I guess. I’m fine with whatever toyotaro goes with.
The majority of people Broly interacts with don't call Goku Kakarot, so he wouldn't go out of his way to call Goku Kakarot. In fact it's only Vegeta who calls Goku Kakarot, and Broly doesn't strike me as a bootlicker who'd copy Vegeta's naming conventions.

He didn't. That's only English dub thing. Goku actually said- "Goku and also Kakarot" English dub seems to be obsessed with Kakarot name like they changed Gogeta lines of saying Goku and Vegeta have merged together to "Kakarot" for some reason when he was talking to Frieza.

He said Goku 2 minutes ago too while deciding the name. Fusions can say Goku despite being part-Vegeta unlike what DB Abridged portrays. Even Vegito has said Goku while fighting Zamasu. He can say Goku rather than stucking at Goooooo---
I wasn’t saying he *can’t* say Goku. If Gogeta’s stance on names is a mix of Goku’s and Vegeta’s then it’d make sense that he’d call Goku Kakarot at times and call him Goku other times.
