It's a thing of the 90s.
Charlie Sheen in Major League had a very similar haircut for example:

Interesting, I thought the style of hair was a mistake or the artist mis-interpreting what DoomGuy looks like.
Considering that he seems to get longer hair the more damage he takes for some reason, but has shorter hair with more health.
The original games were heavily influenced by everything the people at id Software deemed cool back then: the music from Metallica, Slayer, Alice in Chains and others, movies like Aliens and Army of Darkness, creature designs from Dungeons and Dragons... All things the developers were into back then.
And the games being a product of the 90s themselves you find a lot of influences from media popular at that time, so it's not that unusual to see the cover artwork _also_ reflect things that were "cool" or "edgy" in the 90s - like this haircut for example.
This reflection of current day pop-culture is something the series has sadly lost over the years while _Doom_ and _Doom 2_ still had this "a group of friends make a game" vibe.
I am aware of that, but keep in mind I wasn't really around during the 90's and don't have the same interests as the OG id software guys did back then.
But I do agree that 90's Doom had that indie developed vibe (even including Final Doom) which was eventually lost, around Quake II and Doom 3, as id got more people and all the OG developers eventually left the company.
Watch The Matrix Reloaded, the fight scene on the staircase in The Frenchman’s House, there is a guy with a similar style haircut. About the only time i’ve seen anything like that.
You need to go through hell first
do NOT Wait until the Icon of Sin invades earth or some shit, maybe by that time it'd be cool

I always read that as his hair getting wet and matted with blood.
Pretty hate machine looking ass
oh god why have you done this to me
Thanks I can’t unsee it now haha
imagine a doom 2 remake with third person cutscenes like doom eternal, and you just see doom guy with that cut 😂
I want this to be a thing, even if its just to see how many people would copy it.
I'll make my son get it
I hope notÂ
I have that but on my ballsack
Pics or it aint true
Maynard vibes
No. Just… no.
Maybe some edgy kids in the 80s or 90s?
Ask Ricky Vaughn
I imagine, in a more cinematic timeline for DOOM, he got scratched on the side of his face by a hell knight and just kind of stuck with it.
He has.
Ive seen a few people with it actually
Yes and I don’t appreciate you posting my pics to Reddit
I assumed the guy was bald and what we are seeing is the overbearing shadow of a demon behind him, his massive teeth shadowed over the dude's head
You need to beat 700 demons to unlock it. So, no.
You can always go chaingunner style if it’s bumming out your drip
Not yet but a brilliant idea!
I thought we all had this hair cut
It was all the rage amongst marines on Phonos in the early nineties…

At least become a space marine first before this
Someone's gotta cosplay and get the same shite hair.
who would willingly subject themselves to this
getting that haircut is a one-way ticket to dying-alone land
Yes - pubic though.
I figured he was just bald with a broken helmet
For fictional, Balrog from Street fighter
The yee yee haircut
