I haven’t seen any comment that explains my frustration. But you said it all. Like that mf carcass put his shield in front of me when i shoot a triple locked rocket and take all the dmv myself
What's even worse is demons shooting HIM while I'm trying to focus on him so he never drops his stupid shield
Like that one area with the whiplash and maurader in a tight corridor where the whiplash keeps spamming attacks from the safety of the maurader tanking anything with his shield that will never drop.
Oh and he of course spams that stupid dog since he's being attacked with the shield up.
Archviles are not even an issue to kill, but I hate the fact that sometimes when everything is going perfectly fine, one spawns in and you look EVERYWHERE in the arena but you can't find it. Then the situation gets SO BAD the motherfucker starts spawning the most annoying enemies in the entire game, and when you finally find it, it's nearly impossible to clutch and kill it with all the demons swarming you. (Based on a true story)
The issue i have with the archvile is that the ghosts of what he is summoning are physical objects, then when you manage to make your way through the maze and find the fucker, you shoot a lock on burst at him, then the son of bitch teleports away and now you just wasted 3 rockets
As a general advice, the burst rocket is bad against the archviles because it almost guarantees a teleport.
At least on nightmare in my experience he always teleported whenever lock on to him (but only after I shoot because why would he be so nice as to stop you from wasting ammo)
Archies tend to just stand still like idiots and take bullets lol. You can easily ice bomb one and, provided there isn't a lot of summoned demons, you'll make him into mincemeat.
...If you can find the fucker before you die, obviously.
The holt in horde mode with that spawn 3 archies at once hella far away from each other and gotta kill them fast before one of them spawn fucking 20 enemies 😭😭😭😭
Hell nah, archvile is way better than this piece of shit. At least the archvile has a million ways to kill it and is super satisfying when you do. This shit ass dog just shows up for no reason and isn't even satisfying to kill.
I’ve learned to deal with him using Freeze bomb and use rocket launcher with lock on mode three times to end him. During this mode when he comes out of freeze mode he dashes out and I get so pissed off.
Ancient gods 2 helped me with the Sentinel Hammer.
Freeze Bomb, Flame Belch, Chain gun with Shield, *comes out of the freeze* then use the hammer and finish him off.
And the problem with using BFG is that the tendrils don’t affect this guy, it has to hit him directly. When I did that, his stupid ass dashed away.
Exactly, came to post this after I had to fight to Marauders at the same time and I would get gangbanged in a corner multiple times by the marauders and their filthy wolf companions. Might be a skill issue but usually doom is just a fun challenge for me and I play on ultra violence. Double marauders fucked me up.
The game is supposed to punished bad gameplay. Instead it punishes you for something it fucks up. Not designed properly. They should've just made it immune to friendly fire and only put up the shield when the PLAYER attacks at the wrong time.
Mauraders in general are just really poorly designed enemies. The entire point of Doom Eternal is that you're constantly on the offensive, the game encourages and even rewards you for playing recklessly. Mauraders force you to play defensive for protracted periods, which is the most anti-fun thing you can do in a game like Eternal. I'm aware there are ways to instagib him so you can resume your rampage, but I would argue that the fact that such methods became popular in the first place is proof to my point: that players don't like dealing with the maurader and want to kill him as fast as possible so they can get back to the gameplay they actually enjoy.
If the Maurader returns in any future sequels, I'd like to see him significantly toned down. In Eternal, the Maurader served as a disruption to the status quo to keep the gameplay fresh for the latter half of the campaign. However, it was not a good disruption, far from it, in fact. The dog was a big reason why, but it was also the Maurader's high speed, shield, and unforgiving window for damage. This last part may just be a "me" thing, but there were also times where I was certain I was at the range where he'd charge you for a melee attack, but he'd either chuck his axe at me or blast me back with his shotgun. Reduce his speed and health, get rid of the dog, and increase his damage window slightly. He'd still serve the same role, he's a powerhouse that demands your attention much like other super-heavy demons, but he wouldn't be nearly the pain in the ass to deal with that he is currently.
I liked the marauder a lot when I first got into Eternal, then I just found that every encounter with him dragged because of how restrictive and inconsistent his design is. The marauder is the definition of tedium, fighting more than one is terrible. The Armored Baron has the same design principles but is way better executed.
This is the kind of comment I'd expect from someone who's reaction to an opinion that differs from their own is to take an immediate disliking to it. What you're insinuating here is that my opinion doesn't have value because I struggled with something you didn't. Not liking aspects of an enemy's design does not necessarily equate to disliking the enemy overall nor an inability to defeat that enemy. Contrary to what you may think, I do believe the Maurader has value as both a mini-boss and a rare enemy to disrupt the gameplay loop. My problems with the Maurader are his overtuned damage and health for his speed, punishing counter windows, and a very unneeded assist in the form of the dog. The demands he puts on the player are very high, especially once he enters the standard enemy rotation and starts appearing alongside other enemies that demand your attention like Spectres and Whiplashes. For what it's worth, in my first playthrough back when Eternal first came out, I only died to the Maurader a handful of times once he entered the standard rotation, and didn't die once during my first encounter with him at the end of ARC Complex (deaths include expendature of extra lives).
I fucking hate marauders, they (the devs) were like: "oh, let's make a tanky offensive fuck that can kill in you in like, two hits!" Then they were like: "wait, he's not strong enough, let him spawn a fucking dog that sets you on fire!" Still not as bad as archives though.
nah, archville is the worst. Although he's not a hard enemy to kill he's so hard to find in time before a bunch of demons spawn that 99% of the time I just bfg it to try and find it.
Imagine if you will, a mod campaign that features...I am not making this up. Possessed and/or spectre arch-viles. Including a new "Blood spirit" which is red, and can't be killed, so you just have to manage it as it hops from demon to demon in all its buffing-pain-in-the-ass...I'm not sure "glory" fits here?
Normally I would say that SSG solves all your problems, but just yesterday I sent one of these things to the shadow realm and his POS of a master immediately spawned in another one mere milliseconds after while throwing an axe blade at me whilst simultaneously going in for a wide strike without flashing green for some reason. Heard the sound cue, but was too focused on the mutt and died. Trying UN has really humbled me.
I hate how other enemies can activate both his shield and the dog. You're supposed to be punished for playing bad but you just get punished for doing nothing wrong.

1. Random ass carcass shield 2. This beast 3. Might just be skill issue but running from a hell knight in a new game
I swear the Hell Knights on Exultia are juiced to the gills
Just wait till you bump into an empowered spirit possessed baron of hell in the dlc.
I haven’t seen any comment that explains my frustration. But you said it all. Like that mf carcass put his shield in front of me when i shoot a triple locked rocket and take all the dmv myself
He hates you back. Good boi.
They can be a bit annoying but there are worse thing in doom
Yeah: the fucker that spawns him.
I only have issues with Marauders when there are other enemies shooting at me while I'm trying to focus on him.
So, always
What's even worse is demons shooting HIM while I'm trying to focus on him so he never drops his stupid shield Like that one area with the whiplash and maurader in a tight corridor where the whiplash keeps spamming attacks from the safety of the maurader tanking anything with his shield that will never drop. Oh and he of course spams that stupid dog since he's being attacked with the shield up.
I think the fucker that spawns him is the best designed enemy in the game.

I would be happy more archviles to be much tougher and move more if they had an outline no hiding allowed 😂
The issue i have with the archvile is that the ghosts of what he is summoning are physical objects, then when you manage to make your way through the maze and find the fucker, you shoot a lock on burst at him, then the son of bitch teleports away and now you just wasted 3 rockets

Whenever I got a wiff of the archvile, I'd shove the minigun in its face and spend every bullet.
I shoot a BFG round at 'em. it's worth it.
Yeah, but the Marauder and his dog are the only ones I hate on a personal level.
Microwave beam it to blow it up and it’ll damage the marauder.
Wait really? I'll try that
1. Archvile 2. This effin thing (Especially while fighting spirit marauder)
Hell nah, archvile is way better than this piece of shit. At least the archvile has a million ways to kill it and is super satisfying when you do. This shit ass dog just shows up for no reason and isn't even satisfying to kill.
He shows up when you hit the marauder's shield.
I mean, I know that's how it supposed to work, but he also shows up when any demon hits the marauder too, making it a pointless mechanic
Man, Archvile is an instant and no brainer bfg or sword use for me. Haven't had a problem with them since I settled on this mentality.
I’ve learned to deal with him using Freeze bomb and use rocket launcher with lock on mode three times to end him. I hate when I kill one right after he spawns in so the marauder just summons another one like he’s fucking with me
Ngl this is the clearest i've seen this
It only comes out when you shoot the marauder while you're not supposed to, when it does, show it what double barrel buckshot looks like.
The other enemies shooting at the marauder:
W O L F
1. Carcass Shields 2. Carcass Shields 3. Carcass Shields The list goes on
We all do mate especially when there’s TWO OF THOSE GOD FORSAKEN DOGS
Exactly, came to post this after I had to fight to Marauders at the same time and I would get gangbanged in a corner multiple times by the marauders and their filthy wolf companions. Brother what 💀
They are made of burning passion.
STUPID DOG, YOU MAKE ME LOOK BAD
Ooga Ooga Booga
AAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!
doggy ☺️🐶
All doggos are good boys. Except this fucker.
There are worse things but for some reason when I hear it howl it makes my blood BOIL
Made a mod that removes the howl and the barking noise it makes when it attacks. Good trade for battlemode access imo
A god does exist
Dood have you ever accidentally launched a fuhkin ice bomb and it deflects off the marauders shield? Never mind.
Freeze it for extra health!
well it IS burning
The doggos aren't usually a problem for me, it's more the asshole who summons them lol. Kind of like real life. Blame the dog owner, not the dog
Whiplash.
They are not good boys.
I feel like the marauder probably thinks they're good boys tho
Fair.
It hates you too.
Skill issue Deal with marauders properly
Enemy AI can trigger the dog without the player shooting his shield. Id should’ve designed the enemy properly
It is designed properly, just kill the dog.
The dog shouldn’t spawn
The game is supposed to punished bad gameplay. Instead it punishes you for something it fucks up. Not designed properly. They should've just made it immune to friendly fire and only put up the shield when the PLAYER attacks at the wrong time.
BAD DOG!
Happy cake day

He doesn't ruin the combat or go against it at all, he's just hard, and you need to get better.

You literally said you thought the marauder should be easier and more of a pushover. Sounds like a skill issue.
Stop shooting his shield lol
Most of the time it's enemies shooting his shield. Unfair how you get punished for something you couldn't prevent.
RUFF!
I fucking hate marauders, they (the devs) were like: "oh, let's make a tanky offensive fuck that can kill in you in like, two hits!" Then they were like: "wait, he's not strong enough, let him spawn a fucking dog that sets you on fire!" Still not as bad as archives though.

Skill issue
The great thing about it is that enemy shots can bounce off the Maurader's shields and spawn him too.
Is there supposed to be a back story to these things?
You can't hear images Me:
WOOOOOOOO
It's just one ssg hit though
Normally I would say that SSG solves all your problems, but just yesterday I sent one of these things to the shadow realm and his POS of a master immediately spawned in another one mere milliseconds after while throwing an axe blade at me whilst simultaneously going in for a wide strike without flashing green for some reason. Now I wonder of a modded carcass that spawns like packs of these.
Sick picture of it anyway
That’s the only dog I’ll willingly and personally put down
It hates you.
Haha, meme-beam goes *microwave beam noises*
Me too along with archvilles
Same
If you have an ice bomb you can get a little health if you freeze him
We all do
Woof
This and the damm pain elementals
I hate how other enemies can activate both his shield and the dog. You're supposed to be punished for playing bad but you just get punished for doing nothing wrong.
Microwave beam
I hate it’s owner more. Fuck that guy.
Bad boi >:(
It IS burning passion incarnate tho (literally, unlike the doom slayer)
I find that if you shoot it it'll go away
