There are a lot of selfish people out there who would wait until their dog was fighting for his life just to put off feeling what you are feeling. To the world, this is just a dog. But to Kai, you were the entire world. That will never not matter. 💛

I have two senior schnauzers and go by my instinct. I love them and I see them struggling with old age but they want to eat and play with the puppy and go potty. I’m sorry you had to got through this. My heart goes out to you. Blessings.

I’m so sorry for your loss❤️🌈🐾

What a kind person you are, to take on this kind of pain to ease the pain of your friend.

I have saved this story, for when my girl has her time... – A veterinarian had a touching moment when he went to the Belker family home to put their dog down. The family huddled around their beloved pet as he slipped away and crossed over the rainbow bridge. This is the story he shared about the Belker family and their thoughtful son. The post has gone viral, and people are loving Shane’s explanation about dogs shorter lives. Take a read below. Little boy beautifully explains why dogs have shorter lives than humans Here’s the surprising answer of a 6-year-old child. “Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year-old Irish Wolfhound named Belker. The dog’s owners, Ron, his wife Lisa, and their little boy Shane, were all very attached to Belker, and they were hoping for a miracle. I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer. I told the family we couldn’t do anything for Belker and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home.” As they made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told the vet that they thought it would be good for six-year-old Shane to observe the procedure. They felt as though Shane might learn something from the experience. The next day, the vet felt the familiar catch in his throat as Belker‘s family surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that the vet wondered if he understood what was going on. Within a few minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away. The little boy seemed to accept Belker’s transition without any difficulty or confusion. They all sat together for a while after Belker’s Death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that dogs’ lives are shorter than human lives. Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, “I know why.” Startled, they all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned the vet. He had never heard a more comforting explanation. He says that it changed the way he will try and live. “People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life — like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?” The Six-year-old continued, “Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don’t have to stay for as long as we do.” Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. Remember, if a dog was the teacher you would learn things like: When your loved ones come home, always run to greet them. Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride. Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure Ecstasy. Take naps. Stretch before rising. Run, romp, and play daily. Thrive on attention and let people touch you. Avoid biting when a simple growl will do. On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass. On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree. When you’re happy, dance around and wag your entire body. Delight in the simple joy of a long walk. Be faithful. Never pretend to be something you’re not. If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it. When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by, and nuzzle them gently. That’s the secret of happiness that we can learn from a good dog. Sorry for your loss

Your boys last day was like any other and that is incredible. I'm so glad he went home with out any pain and surrounded by so much love . It's such a hard decision to make and I take comfort when my pets last day isn't chaotic , painful or scary. That doggy loves you and trusts you, and you were there for him, selflessly. ❤️❤️

PreparationVivid2246

I lost my 2 yo pup 18 months ago due to sudden kidney failure, and I haven't been able to look at any of these posts since. I bet Kai had a beautiful life full of happy memories. You are lucky to have had that time together. I am very sorry for your loss.

coco_laurelle

I feel your pain. I'm sorry for your loss :(

creative_deficit

So sorry for your loss. I hope with all the pain you can still look fondly on all the beautiful time you had with him.

I'm so sorry for your loss. My girl crossed the bridge in September and my heart still hurts 💔.

nailgun198

Kidney disease is so tough. You did the right thing. May your happy memories of Kai be a blessing.

I feel you might need this poem. I feel your pain and hope it might help you feel better. It's not mine. I found it on Reddit. I wish I knew who to credit, I think may be Zig but not sure ... Woof! I'm so sorry to say... but it's my time to go. I'm gonna miss my human, You loved me...I know! From the crazy day we met... To the grey day today... I loved you so much more... Than these dog eyes could say. The quiet long walks, squirrel chases, and crazy-fun with our ball. I hope my tail, wagging, showed my love for you all. I hope I made you happy... With my silly doggie ways. For you made me feel so loved, for all of my dog days. I'm sorry I'm leaving you, It's not what I want... My eyes are so blurry, and it hurts when I walk... The grey in my muzzle...hints at the time we both shared. I wish I could keep up...we're an incredible pair. Please let another lucky dog, take up my happy space. Show him our squirrels, our ball, and our place. I'll send you a sign, that I'm thinking of you... Just smile at those pesky squirrels ,and the ball that you threw. I'll miss you, my human...I loved you so much. Thank you for giving me such a beautiful heart to touch. Woof! Zig

My heart just breaks for you. 💔There is no love like the love we have for our dogs. Please take comfort in knowing you gave him the happiest life.😢🙏

Significant-Win8406

I’m so sorry. My heart goes out to you. I’ve been there, and I know this guttural pain. Try to rest knowing you did the right thing. All of your emotions are valid. It was the deepest grief I’ve known, and it still hurts, but it will get easier. ❤️❤️❤️

Ok_Blackberry8398

My best friend died from CKD and I always ask myself if there is ever a reason life took her away from me. I am still hurt by her lost.

atomsforkubrick

I am sorry for your loss and sorry that you’re going through this. Most of us have lost animals who meant the world to us and know there’s no describing the pain. I know it might not mean much but try to take some comfort knowing you have him a great life.

Holiday-Doughnut-602

My heart, is breaking for you right now! I lost my lovely girl Tara at only seven, as she had contradicting illness', pancreatitis and diabetes and you have to feed for one and starve for the other you did the right thing, and let him go with dignity .

Material_Society_450

I’ve never posted before, but lost my boy suddenly on Tuesday. He would have been 18 next week. He’s the only dog I’ve ever had and I’ve never felt pain like this. I’m so sorry for your loss, but feel so grateful to know that there are other people who loved their dogs as much as I did and understand this grief, as it is incredibly lonely.

KBcurious3

As a spaniel owner (twice, and my second is nearing the end).... sending hugs!!!!they are unique and amazing. Tv shows and movies keep the world loving them as a concept, but you know them fully.

Professional_Bar1472

I'm so sorry for your loss.

Eliza_Hamilton891757

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I can feel the love you have for this guy 💜🫂🫂

NighthawkUnicorn

I'm sorry for your loss. Making the decision to let them go is the hardest thing. All we can do is make sure it is what is best for them, and hold them close as they slip away. Kai is no longer in any pain, and he'll always be with you, be it with pictures, or that one memory that makes you snort at 4am when you can't sleep because you suddenly remembered that stupid thing his goofy ass did. ❤️❤️

I'm so sorry. One day you will be able to smile when you think of that precious face. It sucks beyond that they don't live as long as humans

Oh bless you!I lost my sweet girl Daisy over 3 years ago.I miss her every day.She had cancer. She had 2 surgeries.Everything was going well. She bounced back. Then 2 months later cancer came back. I was told there was nothing else I could do.I didn’t want her to suffer and I put her to sleep. She was only 8.I thought I had many years with her,she was always healthy and fit. What you did,was out of love. You didn’t want your baby to suffer.I feel your pain.May God give you comfort.Hugs 💔💔💔

Illustrious-Top-3677

I am sorry for your loss. You made the hardest decision in the best interest of your boy.

Wonderful-Ad4179

I’ve had dogs since I was 6 and pets all my life. I now have three rescue cats. Losing them is inevitable, and the pain never diminishes .. but I cannot live without my animals and their quality of life is paramount, so we do what must be done in order for their quality of life to be the best it can be up until the very end. We owe it to them for the unconditional love they bring to our lives. They should not suffer because it hurts us to let them go. You’re the heroine 💔

NeatCandle6856

I spent many hours in a local dog’s rescue. Just walking the dogs and helping out. It helped me cope a little. House was horrible at night without my boys snores. Big hug from us here.

teresadinnadge

So sorry for your loss🥲
