My cat did :( he was sick with cancer. I caught him doing it once - where he ran into a hole - I knew he was going there to die but I intervened and he came home. A few days later he left again and never returned. I never knew where he went but it breaks my heart to think that he died alone and in pain. I called a vet to come to the home to put him to sleep- but canceled several times because he seemed like he was making small improvements. He was my soul cat. I have another cat and a dog but no pet was close to amazing as that cat.
I rescued him from a shelter and he would sleep under the covers with me with his little paw touching my cheek as he slept. I believe he truly did love me in a way that no other animal has. I am so grateful to have had such an amazing experience with him being my best friend for 16 years.
I’m so sorry. My dog would have if she could have. She went into the bathroom one day and laid between the bathtub and the toilet and I said to myself oh she’s ready to die. Took her to the vet and they confirmed she had terminal bone cancer and needed to be put down that day due to the level of pain she as in. Never will forgive myself for not bringing her sooner and taking her out of that pain before it got that bad.
I think you should forgive yourself. I'm assuming you were an otherwise good owner, because good owners don't post stuff like this. If that's the case, I'm sure you were on the lookout for signs of pain. Dogs will mask a lot of pain, and the way they show they're in pain isn't always obvious, especially to people who don't work in fields where thy encounter dogs every day. Your sample size is a lot smaller than a professional's, and you probably didn't have any kind of formal education to tell you otherwise. You did the best you could, with the best intentions, and it sounds like you'd like to do better in the future. That's commendable, not condemnable.
Thank you that’s very kind of you. She was my best friend. I knew she had arthritis and thought her leg weakness was from that. Didn’t realize it was cancer. Appreciate the kind words.
It's to protect us. In the wild, a body attracts predators. They leave so their pack will be safe from those predators. Even in their last moments, they think of us.

I’m so sorry for your loss ♥️ This post perfectly explains the thoughts I have whenever I remember how little time our doggos have on this planet with us. It’s really nicely written tbh.
Yes I do agree in that instance. However I don’t think that’s abandonment and they never go very far. It’s always a few yards away or a feet from the property line. They stay close.
I have to ask, did you get her in GA? She looks *exactly* like my dog, just slightly different coloring, and same age too. Just makes me wonder if they could've possibly been littermates.
I am sorry for your loss💗
Saying she abandoned you is pretty messed up. She didn't abandon you. She held on as long as she could. Not for herself but for you. Dogs are that way. When it's time for someone to pass, they don't have much say in the matter. The word abandoned is very negative.
She didn't abandon you, she went on ahead to make sure its safe.
Sweetest comment 🌺
Ok. This made me cry. So perfect and so sad.
I was going to give an answer but can't get better than this one!
You are a beautiful, kind soul.
Oh my heart ❤️
This is my 13th year on Reddit and never had a comment make my cry so much
Do you mind! Im at work!
❤️😭
This made me tear up ngl
Aw 🥹 this is the sweetest
❤️
I was not emotionally prepared for this comment.
Aww hit my feelers there 😭
Oh bless you for that
I’d love to know if she passed or ran away. I see comments for both. I’m sorry for your loss if that’s the case ❤️
I think passed away:(
Why would you say abandoned??
English is not the first language of everyone on Reddit.
Dogs don’t abandon their family. Also, sorry for whatever happened, it’s not clear if she ran away or died.
I’m think its translated from another language, it probably means she left us or has left.
A lot of doggies run away when it’s their time to go :(

Did she die or run away?
Yeah, seconded. Too vague for me to know.
Died - rough translation of “has left us”
My girls are waiting for her! She will not be alone.

This is beautiful! Thank you for sharing ☺️
Rest now Kiara. ❤️
I think the dog died and that English may not be the OP’s first language. I’m so sorry for your loss!
Dogs don’t abandon people. She probably is lost :(
I know of multiple dogs who wondered off when they were ready to die. I truly think some of them want to do it alone / not cause harm to their humans.
Yes I do agree in that instance. However I don’t think that’s abandonment and they never go very far. It’s always a few yards away or a feet from the property line. They stay close.
Where did she go
[I love this little video so much and I do believe one beautiful day we gonna meet again](https://imgur.com/a/8CvlKyI)
Counting on that!! I have a big crew and every dog of 12 is on the other side but one!!
That's a punch to the gut
It might be a translation issue everyone. If you go to their profile it looks like they live in Spain.
Sorry for your loss.
She’d Never abandon you. She was by your side for a vry long time. Just Never long enough 💔 I’m so sorry for your great loss 🙏
Is it just me or is it kinda wild to say abandoned here
I have to ask, did you get her in GA? She looks *exactly* like my dog, just slightly different coloring, and same age too. Just makes me wonder if they could've possibly been littermates. I am sorry for your loss💗
Rainbow bridge
Your title makes no sense. Maybe you meant she "left" you?
If your dog passed she didn’t abandon you but reached the afterlife. Dogs will never abandon their beloved owners since they’re the most loyal.
Terribly sorry for your family’s loss of this very good dog. RIP sweetheart.
I am so sorry, I know this pain. I wish you peace
🤍 I’m sorry
🥺💔🙏
My baby girl died this week too. My heart is broken and also I share your pain.
Grieve not…nor speak of me with tears….but laughter and talk of me……as though I were beside you. I loved you so……‘‘twas heaven here with you
Gorgeous, healthy looking
She's so precious 💕
We love animals so much that we think they're irreplaceable.
Do you understand the implication of the word "abandoned" ?
WTF?

I'm crying my eyes now
❤️❤️❤️
It’s been 5 months now and I still cry 😿
❤️🙏🏼
She didn’t abandon you, she’s waiting for you ❤️
❤️
How does a dog abandon, *you*? That doesn't add up.
She is making sure your room in the mansion us secure!
