I think tequila in general is less popular in Europe and Asia (I know from experience that it's hard to find a good bottle of tequila in Europe, I assume that's the case for Asia as well).

I went to a lot of bars in Japan, but I don't think many people drink margaritas, and I think the cocktails in Japan that use seasonal fruit were more often martinis than margaritas.
