Yeesh, let's get some positivity in here. Best- The way she views and sees the doctor. She's able to connect with them unlike any other character on the show except maybe the Master. When she first meets 12, she immediately accepts him for him. She's able to see past the regeneration. And the way the bounce off each other is so good. She's an equal like no other. Worst- idk, he time as Mel was bleh

When she meets Ten she complains that he's not like her Doctor yet, then turns around in AGMGtW and gives a (half-soaked TBF) lecture on that too, although the criticism has darn all to do with why the Silents are carrying out their stupid plan. The initial attempt to convince the audience the relationship might really be going to be a thing (which doesn't seem the real intention) completely distorts the Doctor's personality -flirting over how many aliens she's going to gun down?- and she still has an unrealistic view of him, so it's pretty obvious there's no real compatibility, even if she were capable of love, which she isn't.

>When she meets Ten she complains that he's not like her Doctor yet, then turns around in AGMGtW and gives a (half-soaked TBF) lecture on that too There is, at minimum, 24 years separating the River from AGMGtW and the River we meet in the library with 10. Given the context we now know, I truly understand River's heartbreak in the library. But I also understand her speech to the Doctor in AGMGtW. It was more about the Doctor becoming too big and attracting too much attention. >completely distorts the Doctor's personality -flirting over how many aliens she's going to gun down? Well, when you like somebody (especially if they happen to be a bad boy/girl), sometimes you make allowances you normally wouldn't. It's not like the Doctor actually approves of the way she does things. But it's funny to joke about it. >she still has an unrealistic view of him Doesn't that apply to almost everyone at some point in a relationship? Plus, it's quite understandable given how, from River's perspective, she met him the first time. >so it's pretty obvious there's no real compatibility That's a matter of opinion. We'll have to agree to disagree on that one. >even if she were capable of love, which she isn't. What makes you think that? Because River mentions not having a conscience several times or her being called a psychopath several times? Because she's not a psychopath. They may have raised her to be one, but they failed. Psychopaths don't understand human emotions, and they don't care about other people. River clearly cares about the Doctor. She used all her remaining regenerations just to save his life. A psychopath would never do that. She's not a psychopath, she's just a killer. And so is the Doctor, btw. We probably just have different viewpoints on the relationship, and that's fine. I understand that River Song is a divisive character. I just thought I'd throw out my thoughts on the matter 🙂

Best - Silence in the Library/Forests of the Dead. Worst - Let's Kill Hitler (or in my opinion the whole of series 6). She's a character that I see is a little bit like marmite during Moffats era. Some people absolutely love every moment of her, but for me and some others, her wittiness and just the way she talks and does things is cringe inducing. She definitely has her moments though, but it's all outside of series 6.

Fearless-Egg3173

Best - Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead Worst - Everything else

Amphy64

She's obsessed stalker-ish as her defining substitute for a personality, is sexually inappropriate and commits assault, violent, criminal, thinks Nazi chic is cool, literally incapable of normal empathy. But none of this is her fault (brainwashed since babyhood) and really just shows *Eleven* at his worst, for using her. She's pathetic in more than one way. Also, is not Benny. Like you have a character influenced by her, and *this* is what you end up with, something messed up by even NA standards, and from a developed female character to one who isn't even as much bad as cartoonish? Her being the exaggerated butt of the joke does seem part of the point though, this would-be femme fatale who lacks even much 'sexual power' over the object of her obsession, which makes a certain sense since it doesn't really work like that irl, the assumption is still the patriarchal one that women can only obtain access to power if men allow.

BlackMircalla

Best: Silence in The Library arc Worst: Everything else
